Thought I better set this up when I realised I had inadvertently posted the 999th post on thread 4! Shock

The slower cooker thing is one of my goals this year. I'm kondoing the freezer to make space. every meal now involves runner beans. But think of the joys of little labeled bags all standing up full of meals. Takes tidying drawers to a new level !

Iqueen · 12/01/2015 18:36

Hermione Don't worry... we've got 6 months to do this!
I've come to a stand-still on my clothes... now I have 2 bedrooms that look like tips!

I think doing cleaning things will be a good idea. It must be hard working and then expecting to come home motivated! Tackling smaller, quick categories may rejuvenate your mojo, and still make visible differences. Smile

I think I will take me own advice, and see if a few swift victories can bring back my own enthusiasm! Wink

CoolCadbury · 12/01/2015 18:47

ooh, ooh , ooh, it was me who thought of the clear plastic fruit/veg containers to use elsewhere. Grin

slow cooker - can you get a plug in timer instead of getting a new expensive slow cooker with a built in timer?

I hate those corner kitchen units too. I have managed to kondo everything out of mine. I actually have 1 empty drawer and 2 cupboards in the kitchen sitting empty. Lovely!

Starface · 12/01/2015 18:49

hermione I do think you need a plan for moving them on. Otherwise you are essentially just moving them round. I scanned bar codes with my phone to see if amazon would take them, had a pile for those and everything else went to the chazzer. Despite two previous significant shedding sessions, this got rid of quite a bit and at the speed I needed to get rid. Moving things on fast is crucial to motivation and momentum. Flowers keep going, you'll get there.

ItIsntJustAPhase · 12/01/2015 18:54

Kids were great with their books today. I did a first cut and they 'rescued' some and then helped decide homes for the rest... Library, school, etc.

I also did herbs and spices, cleaning supplies and some of the medicines.

Woohoo!

CoolCadbury · 12/01/2015 18:54

hermione I agree with starface you do need to try to move those books on quickly, ideally before you start kondoing anything else.

HermioneGrangerHair · 12/01/2015 19:00

Thanks starface Flowers

I suppose I do have some of a plan, it's just incomplete. The library has agreed to take the books. Where it falls down is how I get them to the library... I need to get a whole load of boxes, and it'll take at least a couple of runs in the car. I know that's probably not such a big deal, but it's another excuse for not progressing. Must. Stop. Procrastinating.

Violettatrump · 12/01/2015 19:05

Great going it!

I'm putting off a major photo/letters/keepsakes kondo.

We have decided to repaint one of the kids rooms and the garage soon. Just trying to smarten the place up

homeaway · 12/01/2015 19:07

Hermoine
can you ask library to lend you some crates and pick them up and drop them back full on the same day ,?

Pointlessfan · 12/01/2015 19:27

Lockie I'm sure DD would enjoy rolling around in all my papers but I expect she'd eat them, she's already had a bite out of the tube from a loo roll today!

stiffstink · 12/01/2015 19:40

Holy crap! I think that Marie Kondo just spoke through me as her vessel for joy and made DH quit his job!

The words "why do you want to hang on to it? Does it make you happy?" were spoken.

He is handing in his notice tomorrow! He also asked "is this something to do with that tidying up book?!"

I haven't even got to DVDs yet and we are kondoing careers!

Violettatrump · 12/01/2015 19:43

Wow stuff!!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 12/01/2015 19:50

Just checking in Smile

No kondoing, so far but did manage to get the weekend's kondoed treasure to the charity shop so that made me happy.

I cleared a three shelf plate rack over the last couple of days and sold it on FB...the wall looks so odd now (and needs painting!!) but virtually everything on the shelves have been sent to the charity shop.

Re slow cookers. I love mine (both of them Blush). I don't use them all the time but wouldn't even consider getting rid of them...partly because I have the tiniest oven, ever...baking trays have to go in sideways otherwise they don't fit.

The ikea link is fab. Did someone suggest using the wooden, ikea spice rack for storing cling film/foil etc? I have two 'spare' spice racks that are now waiting to be attached to the inside of the cupboard door for this purpose. Although, now there is considerably less stuff in my kitchen, I'm thinking about replacing the units. I've wanted to do it for years but it was always too big a job because of the amount of stuff.

Will be passing the charity shop tomorrow so going to try and fill a couple of bags this evening so I have something to drop off Grin

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 12/01/2015 19:55

Stiff stink - wow! A true Konvert!!!

HermioneGrangerHair · 12/01/2015 19:57

Oh cripes! Well done Mr Stink!!! Smile

Iqueen, starface, Cadbury, homeaway, thanks all for your advice. I sacked off the idea of chasing free boxes, and have just ordered a load from a removals company. Cost as much for Saturday delivery as the boxes themselves, but you know what? My living space is worth all that and more!!!

Pointlessfan · 12/01/2015 20:02

Wish I was brave enough to Kondo my career! Well done Mr S!!

Starface · 12/01/2015 20:03

Hermione, when my grandfather died he had over 1500 books Shock, many from Cambridge University Press (he had a connection). Sorting them was something else. Every bedroom in their house was lined with books. I remember gawping at bizarre titles in my youth (economics of the potato famine, anyone). In the end we donated them to an Oxford College, and hired a van to get them there. Be glad it's not you. Or your children. It took about a year to figure out that plan...

stiff that is book jacket worthy. Kondoing husbands, kondoing jobs...

Starface · 12/01/2015 20:05

Hermione, just check the price comparison of archive boxes. You can probably cancel the removal boxes if it doesn't work out. Books are heavy so small boxes work well ime.

HermioneGrangerHair · 12/01/2015 20:11

Still cheaper than archive boxes, and I got the smaller book boxes (have shipped these books once before!)

themummyonthebus · 12/01/2015 21:00

Wow Mr Stiff that sounds wrong job kondoing! That's impressive Shock

Well done for finding a solution Hermione. I agree with everyone else that getting the discarded items or as quickly as possible is the way to go. You'll feel much more relaxed once the books have gone.

Thanks for the diet tips IQueen and Violetta Bit frightened I'm turning into a 'feeder' taking all the Christmas leftovers into work Blush

In other Kondo news, Mr "I don't need to sorry my clothes as I had a story out when we moved" has 2 drawers of socks, 3 of t shirts and 2 of jumpers Hmm I have suggested he possibly doesn't need that many socks. We're currently speccing out our new wardrobe so I don't want to buy too big a one to house his collection of socks. Grr.

I'm off on a business trip tomorrow til the end of the week so not much chance of kondoing until the weekend. Although I might try to do my handbag while I'm away. It's full to bursting and not giving me any pleasure at the moment. I think kondoing it is mostly going to consist of throwing stuff away.

themummyonthebus · 12/01/2015 21:01

Sorry and story = sort

Iqueen · 12/01/2015 21:14

CoolCadburyCongratulations on the plastic fruit/veg conta(iners - you're a Kondo Kween! Grin

Yep, you can use one of those plug in timers, and then plug the s/cooker into that. I have several that I use to use when I was teaching away in the winter, to stop the house freezing.

Corner cupboards. Can those revolving shelves be fitted?

You never know... Kondo is power! Grin

JKSLtd · 12/01/2015 21:30

I inherited a rotating pullout thing for the corner cupboard.
Not sure it helps. It really is a black hole in there. No real idea what's in there. Empty christmas sweet ribs mostly I think!

Empty would be more joyful.
