52 Weeks To an Organised Home Challenge 2015 - Who fancies it then?

I'm pretty excited! Realised that the reason I can't keep on top of the housework is because I'm so disorganised and so cluttered. This shoud deal with both, and with a week per challenge, allows enough time for it to be habit forming (I hope!).

Theres also a Declutter your home in 15 minutes a day challenge running alongside it, which looks fab!

Starts on Monday - so, who's in?

Great website. Thanks for linking to it Afternoons.

Good luck with decluttering everyone.

HazyShadeOfWinter · 03/01/2015 22:19

Blush THanks Afternoons!

Hamper your to do list is daunting to me; I am sticking to a morning routine for now -aim to get dishwasher unloaded, washing machine on and breakfast things away. Then also to do quick clean of toilet while DC1 in bath if DC2 isn't feeding.

And we put cards and decorations away tonight so am ahead for tomorrow's task :)

cookiefiend · 04/01/2015 01:55

Ooh on another thread someone mentioned the homeroutine app which allows you to make house to do lists and tick them off. Each time you tick one off. I have never paid for an app before and this one was £2.99 but I am hoping it is worth it.

I am so delighted with this thread afternoons- it is really helping me focus and be positive.

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 04/01/2015 08:22

Glad everyone's enjoying this. I'm already slacking - didn't get round to do my list yesterday so will do that today, plus todays task :

Day 4 - old Christmas Cards

Should say *Declutter old Christmas cards. Good start....

I'm on a mission at the moment! I've recently become a SAHM and am determined to get our house sorted, especially before our new baby comes in the spring.

I've signed up for the January cure again (made some great lists last time... ticked off some of it!). I've also been using Flylady to inspire me for a couple of months now and that's helped, although I've fitted it to how I want to do it, not necessarily following it to the letter. I've also signed up for the 52 week declutter. Phew!

Not too bad so far is it? I bought myself a shiny new binder (and I WILL get rid of the old tatty ones that are just hanging around...) and that has already helped as I've put a lot of the paper that was stuck to the fridge in there. The kitchen looks so much better already! I had a big purge on the worktops and shelves just before Christmas so hopefully I'm part of the way there with some of the challenges. Have also had great fun with the Christmas cards, my toddler is loving using them for cutting up. Whereas in the past they would have been shoved in a drawer.

A lot of the problem with me is getting in the right frame of mind - I'm very sentimental and keep things because of this or 'just in case'. But no more!

AnnField · 04/01/2015 10:49

Christmas cards done! Well I did them on NYE because I'm weird and like all of the Christmas stuff out of the way before the new year starts.

AnnField · 04/01/2015 10:51

Oh and Home Routines is excellent though takes a while to set up. I'd just gotten it all sorted a few years back, somehow managed to lose all of my data updating my phone and never got back into using it again. Think I'll investigate that again today!

HamperNoShow · 04/01/2015 18:42

hazy it honestly doesn't take long! I promise!

Cards done!

HamperNoShow · 04/01/2015 19:13

Christmas tree done now to. Had dh do some washing today whilst I was at work so need to sort and fold the dry stuff while the kids are having a bath. But dinner first! :)

Gunpowder · 04/01/2015 19:21

I've done the tree and put the decorations in the loft. Have also de cluttered the kitchen cupboard of doom!

Am not sticking religiously to the list but hopefully it will make me do something each day beyond the usual bits.

GodRestYeMerrySlatterns · 04/01/2015 20:56

I can't look properly until tomorrow, after which I hope to join you properly.

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 04/01/2015 21:25

Hello! Still not caught up, but have decluttered christmas cards today and taken down the last of the decs and boxed them up ready for DH to put in the loft. Still need to get to grips with a daily to do list and sort out my binder properly. Last day of school holiday tomorrow so should be easier once school starts on Tuesday hmm

Day 5 - Read Challenge Week #1: Kitchen Counters - hopefully thats a clicky link Grin

Obviously the Organised Home Challenge starts tomorrow (Yay!!)

Marking my place. This looks like it could work for me once I've finished Marie kondoing my house!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 05/01/2015 17:34

I have name changed from my Christmas name, hopefully not too late to join you all.

I signed up today and will try to get caught up over next few days.

I'm not too worried about a household book as I'm not sure I want to create another list book. At the moment I have a notebook with school class lists which is also used for Christmas present lists, another one for recipes I want to try and all things cooking and a third for banking details. Then there is also a very scrappy note book full of every other random list conceivable. I don't want another note book!

HamperNoShow · 05/01/2015 21:28

Just checking in. I have done my January cure challenge from last week, except instead of flowers we replaced the front porch pants I the pots. Dh bought them yesterday and the kids and I potted them up today. Kitchen counters are ok ATM I think. We have a small kitchen so most stuff is stashed away anyway! I do need to stop puttingpaperworkonthemicrowave tho...Blush

VioletandRoger · 05/01/2015 23:04

I'm ahead of myself! I've already done my kitchen but will aim to oil the wood in the kitchen and go through my recipe drawer.

Hamper · 06/01/2015 09:57

Proud of myself this morning as have got my list done already. (Have name changed!)

Off to walk he puppy with a friend at half past then the rest of the day to work uninterrupted until the school run! :)

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 06/01/2015 10:12

Intrigued by your pants in pots, Hamper! Grin

Still slacking here - need to catch up on the ones I've missed still - hopefully get that sorted today.

Day 6 - Declutter kitchen utensils and silverware drawer

Links on the challenge page - I'm struggling with links today for some reason.

This morning I have been thinking about my kitchen counters and have emptied my 2 massive crap drawers in preperation for putting some of the equipment normally left on the counters like the food processor (hardly ever used) and tassimo machine (ditto). Now just need to find a home for all that junk Hmm, before I do todays mission. Hey Ho. Got a Tesco delivery between 1 and 2 so got to be done by then.

I am marking my place. Have subscribed to the 'thing' and will be looking through. I may not be on this thread every day, but I will be looking for tips and inspiration :)

Hamper · 06/01/2015 11:57

Blush um! yes. Plants! No pants here!

Hamper · 06/01/2015 11:58

Blush Blush

I mean, obvs i am wearing pants!

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 06/01/2015 13:34

Grin Hamper

Its getting worse here! Checking in for a bit of a boost. Shopping has arrived and the cupboards are still full of christmas crap so no-where to put it! Still got sides covered in empty drawer junk from this morning, too! Arghh! Feeling a bit overwhelmed. Positives are: decluttered cutlery drawer and utensils as planned, plus the tea-towel/dish-cloth/random scraps of cloth(?) drawer and the cling film/tin foil/sandwich bag drawer, so they're all looking lovely. Quick break then back to it. Can't believe its taking so long! I was fooled by the "15 minutes a day" thing.

OP posts:
babycakes76 · 06/01/2015 16:23

So far so good!
Just off to tackle the cutlery drawers!

SweetGrapes · 06/01/2015 17:08

Evening ladies! Have been lurking around housekeeping for a while and I would really like to join in. Hope I am not too late!
