52 Weeks To an Organised Home Challenge 2015 - Who fancies it then?

www.home-storage-solutions-101.com/support-files/52-week-organized-home-list-2015.pdf

I'm pretty excited! Realised that the reason I can't keep on top of the housework is because I'm so disorganised and so cluttered. This shoud deal with both, and with a week per challenge, allows enough time for it to be habit forming (I hope!).

Theres also a Declutter your home in 15 minutes a day challenge running alongside it, which looks fab!

Starts on Monday - so, who's in?

I am soooo in!!! Thank you for starting this thread :)

AnnField · 01/01/2015 15:29

Signing up for this one.

Donation box set up in spare room (next to the bag of clothes for eBay and books for work colleagues which I've been meaning to sort out for months Blush)

Castlelough · 01/01/2015 20:57

Going to attempt this in conjunction with Flylady. The principles are more or less the same...have just moved house and due my first baby any day, so while I need to declutter and am in nesting mode... I'll see how I go!

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 02/01/2015 07:42

Morning! Welcome to all newbies.

Day 2: Create a binder for household notebook.

www.household-management-101.com/homemaking-notebook.html

This is something I've tried before, but neveer managed to keep up. Hoping it sticks this time.

ANewMe2015 · 02/01/2015 07:44

Oh yes. I already signed up after seeing it on someones facebook.

I havent got a binder to hand though so will need to get one!

cookiefiend · 02/01/2015 10:02

Hmm... donation box from yesterday is already full and ready to go! I need to creaste another one. I shall have a look now at the notebook.

AnnField · 02/01/2015 10:56

I already keep a paper planner so will just use that I think.

Thanks for this thread Afternoons Flowers

cookiefiend · 02/01/2015 11:33

I was looking for an app, though they all seem a bit pricey. However for those of you looking to do paper lists- this website has loads of pre-made lists you can print out and edit- you can browse and download the PDF lists for free.

List Plan It

I think I might try the months free subscription to havnig it on my phone.

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 02/01/2015 14:23

Nooooo, cookie!!! Don't create a new one - empty the one you've got! Otherwise you're just creating exra clutter! Sad

I haven't got round to sorting my binder, been out all day. Will sort it after I've had my coffee, bound to have at least one lying around somewhere.

I'm in :)

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 02/01/2015 17:51

I'm in as well Smile Doing this along side Kondoing as while that gives overarching clear out, this has a lot more family living practical ideas. I'm hoping this to be the year to make my house organized and less source of stress.

MehsMum · 02/01/2015 18:02

Cannot promise to keep with everything that this thread will advise me to do, but I will try... I need to sort out the binder, update the phone numbers, and generally tidy up the paperwork - it's a mess and I couldn't find DD's GCSE certs a month ago because I'd put them away in the wrong place.

I like the idea of a donations box. Currently we just have a corner of the airing cupboard where any clothes for the charity shop get dumped and then get in everyone's way for months...

babycakes76 · 02/01/2015 20:03

Donation box done. Still sorting through things for selling box.

I have a box and a folder already for paperwork etc so I have gone through them both today and have thrown away all old/out of date papers.

I need to print a couple of the lists to add to my folder.

I love this!! Thanks OP

CQ · 02/01/2015 20:14

Marking place.

First priority is to catch up on some sleep and declutter my liver Grin

Will prob start Monday.

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 02/01/2015 21:43

OK, so my ringbinder is a manilla folder thingy for the time being, as I'm really trying not to buy more stuff. I always start things like this by buying loads of folders/boxes/stuff thinking it will help and it never does. My approach this time is just to trust in the system. I read a blog recently (while researching this, so may have been on the household management site) that talked about using things you've already got instead of buying new. They may not be perfect, but they'll do. Wobbing a bit at lack of brand new ring binder (dispite my complete disorganisation, I'm a perfectionist at heart!).

I must say, though, this thread is really helping already. Its great reading what you're all doing, plus, I really wouldn't have bothered doing this task this evening, except for the fact I need to post that I've done it! :-D

SunshineAndShadows · 02/01/2015 21:56

Just seen this - going to play catch up tomorrow and doing the apartment therapy January challenge - yay!

HazyShadeOfWinter · 02/01/2015 22:02

Hmm, household binder...sure I have an old folder somewhere, plus lots of notebooks I could start with. But all in room where baby currently asleep so will have to consider that tomorrow.

But, two bags of baby clothes and other stuff to a charity shop today - not on the plan but makes me feel better about slipping behind in the task. Like you afternoons I made a special effort to get them out of house so I could post about it :)

dairyfarmerswife · 02/01/2015 22:07

I'm in! I've been lurking on the Kondo thread, but this sounds like a good motivator too... Too late to start tonight so I'll catch up tomorrow...

HazyShadeOfWinter · 02/01/2015 22:08

Argh, have already lost the email with the sign up confirmation that had the calender of tasks for the year - can anyone post or pm me the link? Yet more evidence that I need to be more organised...

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 02/01/2015 23:03

LOL Hazy - I linked it in the OP....

So today is create a template for a daily to do list. Anyone seen/got any good ones?

HamperNoShow · 03/01/2015 12:47

My fault chores list is laminated on the fridge, so I have skipped the folder for now ??.

My list take about firty five minutes to an hour a day, not including drying and folding the washing.
Lunches are done before school run, everything else as soon as I get in. Dinner needs to be prepped do it can go on while I get ready for work (night shifts). Dh will do the dinner fishes or leave for me to do the next morning.

It is:

Packed lunches
Load if washing in
Make beds
Dishes
wipe surfaces
Empty rubbish bins if needed
Put recycling out if needed
Toilets swish and swipe
Bathroom wipe over
Organise dinner
Iron uniforms for tomorrow
Vacuum
Sweep and mop if needed
Fold and put away washing

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 03/01/2015 14:17

Here's a template from Unfuckyourhabitat that I think I'm going to tweak for mine.

cookiefiend · 03/01/2015 19:51

LOL afternoons, I will take the full box to the charity shop and replace it with another! I made a basic spreadsheet with weekly and daily chores list yesterday. Last week I gave about 40 binders to the charity shop and DH will flip if I buy a new one so going to keep them loose for now whilst I tweek them. When we move house I want an organisation station- a space for lists like that as well as incoming paperwork.
