gaterade hope you are feeling better. Good luck with the black socks - I'm sure they breed and multiply.

GatoradeMeBitch · 30/12/2014 09:07

I'm fine now thank you Smile It's given me a boot up the bum to get back to healthy eating though! Funnily enough, I did throw out the clothes I associate with a bad relationship! The black socks are a terrible habit of mine. Whenever I go past Primark I buy more. I'm only surprised I keep them, considering that I act as if they are disposable. That has to stop.

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 30/12/2014 09:11

I have been lurking for a while... and slowly ditching the clutter but not in a very structured way.

so this morning I decided to tackle my daughter's chest of drawers which has kept me awake at night for months. She has one particular drawer that stores trousers and long and short sleeve t-shirts. As she's got bigger and her clothes have got bigger, we have adopted a "just shove it in" approach. Shudder.

Anyway. I have folded and stacked vertical and by GOD there is actually spare space. SPARE SPACE. I could weep. Really, weep. Its so beautiful.

I am stuck on her pants and socks though. Her tights and pyjamas are rolled (more spare space in that drawer). But the pants are going to bother me. What do you do about toddler pants???

Sigh. I wish I could do the whole house today. I will buy the book immediately (kindle).

Thank you Konmarie. Thank you mumsnet.

CoolCadbury · 30/12/2014 09:47

teenage glad you feel better about that nightmare drawer.

You could roll them like sushi - lay them flat, fold bottom part to top part to make a rectangle, roll and put away so folded edge is on top.

CoolCadbury · 30/12/2014 09:52

Christmas tree down - woohoo and I found space for the monstrously sized rolling pin. .

Pointlessfan · 30/12/2014 10:01

Teenage, pop a shoe box in the drawer, fold pants like Cadbury said and put them in the box. That's how I've done mine!

wejammin · 30/12/2014 10:04

We each have a trofast box for hats scarves gloves etc and every time we left the house I would be pulling everything out to find DS's other glove or my only hat. I decided no more! I discovered this morning that large gift bags from Christmas presents slot in nicely in a row of 3 in each box, so each of us have one for hats, one for gloves and one for scarves.

The storage solution found me Smile

Not convinced it's a long term solution but it's soooo much better than before.

iknowimcoming · 30/12/2014 10:24

Did dds dreaded tights drawer yesterday! Interesting psychological experiment! She was telling me how if they had holes in that couldn't be seen it was ok to keep them! I told her we aren't so poor you have to wear tights with holes in! Bin them! I started her off showing her how to roll them and left her to it without much hope of her bothering, but she did! She finished it and proudly showed me the result! Amazing! Grin

Oh. My. God. Just did sock drawer properly (folding socks) and it is a complete revelation, it brings a smile to my face even looking at it. They take up 1/2 the room and by unrolling them to fold I immediately got rid of several pairs as I suddenly remembered that they slipped down/weren't nice to wear. This is a drawer I thought I had already done.

Just had to share........ My pants Grin sorry but I think they look beautiful!!

Went for a check up for my depression this morning - Dr says I can start weaning myself off the pills! Yeah!!!! She thinks I am doing amazingly well. I couldn't get off the sofa in September when I was diagnosed with my second bout of depression - I have recently taken up exercise classes and do 5 hours a weeks now. And she was very impressed with my house purge! Seems mine is having a positive effect rather than an ill one - hope you are ok gatorade?

Bags for charity shop are still in my hallway ready to go from yesterday and just added another one so a total of 11 to go! Will raise some good money for the BHF so feeling pleased!

Will catch up again later once I have recovered from the shock of how much I enjoyed folding pants!! My Gran will be chuffed when I tell her (she takes it one step further and irons them Confused).

Oh and have decided to bin all my black socks, they are all similar but slightly different widths on the elastic bit at the top so take forever to match up properly!! Bright colours much more joyful will look nicer in my drawer and will save me hours pairing up!!!!

PonderousTortoise · 30/12/2014 11:45

I just folded all of Dcs clothes into drawers.

Came upstairs to find DS (2.9) has pulled it all out to create a mountain up which he can build to switch the light on. Where is the AAAAAAAGH emoticon???

In other Konmari news, I think I may have over kondo-d tops this morning. I have one long sleeved top in the drawer, one vest top I am wearing and one shirt hanging up to dry. This is less telling of my decluttering abilities than my absolute ineptitude for clothes shopping I think - I just buy ill- fitting rubbish stuff in a panic all the time.

MangoBiscuit · 30/12/2014 11:46

Lovely pant drawer inaday and congrats on cutting back on the pills.

I tried to join in briefly on thread 3, but hadn't read the book, and was very low on time pre-Christmas. Hoping I can join in now. Please? :) I'm half way through the book (using a lovely bookmark that I'd been saving, what for I have no idea!) I already keep a fairly low stock of clothes, having had a big clear out months ago. I fold and file tops, pyjamas, everyday pants and socks, so I didn't think I'd be able to do much with my underwear drawer, but I thought I'd give it a go, to practice. Bloody hell! I just filled a carrier bag. I didn't even realise I still had stuff in there that I don't use, but was keeping "just in case". My lovely new socks I got for Christmas are folded, and in place, and my pretty pants are all sushi rolled, so I can see them all at a glance. I'm itching to do the rest of my clothes, but baby is napping and sleeping poorly, so I daren't go upstairs. So instead I'm going to bag and box up the piles of stuff I was planning to ebay never one day, ready to donate.

PonderousTortoise · 30/12/2014 11:47

inaday that is really lovely news and I am v impressed w your 5hrs exercise a week

MILLYmo0se · 30/12/2014 12:01

littlemarvel not as fancy as yours, but Im making a list of things I need eg new dark-coloured tea towels (WHY do they make teatowels in white, they look dirty even coming out of the wash !), new chopping boards, think Ill try bamboo ones, our plastic ones are gross . Want new towels too, think Ill treat myself to a couple of bath sheets and get rid of the crappy bath towels we have and keep all the hand towels .

inadaydream · 30/12/2014 12:08

Just need to sort my food out now as I eat too much rubbish (which kind of cancels out my hard work at my classes?!) does MK do a book on sorting bad food habits?! Wink

Can I get a link from someone in how to do underwear folding? Pants, socks etc? Thanks

Bobloblaw · 30/12/2014 12:20

Is it ok to hop right in? I read the book earlier in the year and did bits and pieces but I would like to get started. My house feels very full after Christmas.

We have been extending/decorating and sorting the house for the last few years. Only the hall left to do now :) My daughter has hydranencephaly and needs a lot of equipment so bits of it feel full/crowded. While I can't get rid of any of it, I'm hoping that decluttering/sorting everything else will mean that the equipment has less of an impact.

I am going to dig the book out again and decide where to start.

inadaydream · 30/12/2014 12:28

Carpe I youtubed it and found all sorts of ways to fold/roll all sorts then chose the method that looked to suit me and my storage the best.

My top drawer is now beautiful, will post a pic after we have kondo'd the christmas cheese (nom nom).

lilttlemarvel · 30/12/2014 13:22

Milly - it took me years to get the teatowels I want! Good point about the colour though. Mine and white with a coloured check (the e-cloth ones) and yes, they do stain sadly. Hope you find the perfect ones soon!

I live your idea for the hats & gloves wejammin! We've got an ottoman in the porch for these things and it is a bit like a jumble sale...My do that this afternoon!

Lovely drawer inadaydream and fantastic news about the pills.

I'm not getting on well with the paperwork. I had a massive go at it a couple of years back and started scanning and storing things digitally instead. I did everything apart from DS's school books (don't feel up to throwing them away - now I have 6 years worth!) - I did all the photos, including MIL and FILS, my nans, my mums, my dads...! Then the scanner broke and I still haven't worked out how to scan multiple pages with the new one - so I put it off...and now it has built up again.

It doesn't help that DH and I both have a home office on different floors and very different attitudes to things like this - he also lifted my whole administration directory and put in on the server so we could all access it - good idea in theory but... Oh and Windows 8 - I hate you. I also have a lot of work files - in transfer files in other transfer files due to new computers. In my head it is a mess! Basically my computer and file directories need a full declutter. It is going to take a long time...I've got to do this properly and completely this time though!

StuntNun · 30/12/2014 13:31

I Kondo'd my Kindle. No e-books that I'm never going to get around to reading on there now.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 30/12/2014 13:38

Lovely folding inadaydream . I had rolled all DP's pants and then decided to fold instead. They look much better.

I tried using the sock folding technique in the video on the other thread but then read the KonMari approach to sock folding and re-did them all. They do look much more relaxed now Grin

It's definitely rubbing off on DP. He just cleared an awkward to reach windowsill that has collected goodness knows what over the years.

I've just KonMaried toiletries too. Although left DP to do his own.

RingsOnMyFingers · 30/12/2014 13:43

I've name changed from PP as I'm going to post photos....

This is the before of my "crap top" drawer. There's no after as 33 tops have gone. The remaining four are hanging iny wardrobe where on hanging I managed to grab 3 skirts, two dresses and a cardi for the bin bags.

The stuff left is not strictly konmaried but it's a start...
