Anybody want to join me in a mega, whole house declutter?

I am desperate to have a clean and tidy home. It's always ruined my life and I always feel very lonely, partly because I can never have anybody over without a week or so notice to clean up! I am fed up of being like this and want to make a change for good. I know that the biggest step is to declutter, as it will make it so much easier to keep tidy.

I have delcuttered lots of times before, and I then end up filling it up again! I don't want to do this again! I want this to be the last time!!

Anybody up for joining me?

I have already done my girls room (They share a small double and it was always so full that they couldn't ever have space to play in it!). It is so much easier now, I finished it about a week ago but have actually kept it tidy!

I am now moving onto my Son's room. It's a TEENY box room with just a cotbed and one chest of drawers in, no spare space and I have an extra baby to fit in their soon as we are expecting again. Baby will sleep in our room for as long as possible but no idea where the baby's clothes etc will go! So iv culled his clothes and now have 2 spare drawers, and got an under bed drawer now which I can use although not really space to pull it out!

Anyway, would anybody like to join me in my mission? We could support each other and keep each other going? I have also strarted looking into flylady and hope to use some bits from there, but not follow it fully as I like to do my own thing a bit.

I really need to get rid of the black bags infront of my wardrobe, just no motivation at the moment, I've finally joined pinterest too to keep me interested, I will do it, it's just having two kids that seem to have so much crap even when I've decluttered their room at 8 months pregnant, I'm getting the rage thinking about it, I really need my 18 year old to move out so Ds2 gets his room and we can decorate, then I'll have the perfect excuse Grin

ChaffinchOfDoom · 31/07/2014 09:36

look at kids rooms and kids storage and lego storage on pinterest, very inspiring x

shitatusernames · 31/07/2014 09:56

Yes I've been on there hours ha ha, not sure if you'll know but can I put the metal things that the saucepans rest on when cooking in the dishwasher? Will be fab if they can.

JKSLtd · 31/07/2014 11:38

I have done lots of times.

Baking with 2youngest this morning, why do it do it to myself?!Grin

Have bought more clothes for dd which really means I should get rid of some too small stuff. Again.

No decluttering really going to happen today as off down to the beach later.

shitatusernames · 31/07/2014 12:46

Ha ha I know, seems a good idea at the time.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 31/07/2014 17:40

hmm, dunno if id put my metal oven grid things in the dishwshr, they seem to be coated?

shitatusernames · 31/07/2014 18:38

I'm going to try the baking soda, white vinegar and some washing up liquid theory, just need to remember to buy the white vinegar, really have not got much done today at all Sad

Hello all, new to the thread, have just read through the whooooole thing (hm, that's supposed to indicate the word whole said in an exaggerated fashion, but it just looks weird), and wondering where Lillly has gone (OP). Hope all has gone well with her baby, I think I remember reading she was due in July.

We are officially Getting There on our house. Have spent the first week of the hols moving DS1 from the boxroom to a larger room downstairs (part of a slightly bizarre but v useful 70s downstairs extension.). Now, this is all well and good, but as we emptied our asbestos garage a couple of years ago with a view to having it demolished and nice new shed put in its place (not happened yet) and have such a tiny loft access that all we've got in there is insulation, that room was our junk room storage area. Plus guest bedroom. So this move has necessitated a great deal of "do we really need this??".

The good thing is that DS1 sees this new room as a fresh start, so has had a mega sort of his stuff himself, inspired by me saying we'd book a stall at the local flea market and he would get to keep all his profit. I came across all sorts of bits and bobs that I had only been hanging onto because I could, so also had a load to sell. DS2 didn't want to miss out entirely on some potential holiday spends, so picked through some of his (horrifically dusty) older trash. Still loads left in his room, but I'm playing the long game there.

Flea market was this Weds just gone, boys both made a bit of loot, I got rid of a load of junk mostly for 20p a pop and came out with a whopping £20.49 profit! Glad I wasn't doing it for proper money, really it was for the boys, and I wanted to cover the cost of the pitch. Highly recommend market/carboot - as long as you prepare yourself for those people who pick through your treasures with a sneer on their face, and want everything for silly money, you and the kids will have a blast! Even OH, who usually hates anything remotely involving other people, said "when can we do the flea market again?!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 01/08/2014 20:22

hi mixedpeel ooh you can't beat a good sale :-) now my mental image of your house is ''that 70s show'' with the large downstairs room the kids hangout in hehe.

I have an 8 & 6 yr olds, and have just had dc3 now 4mths old. Due to all of his baby tripe overrunning the house we have had to streamline everything else to fit him in; hence lots of junk given to aunties/charity/sold on FB groups. to be safe a lot of my collections are organised when dh is around.
sadly Ive bought as much as Ive sold, but only spending sales money, and I couldn't pass up an immaculate baby walker for £4.50 now, could I Grin

JKSLtd · 03/08/2014 21:07

Yey just won a wardrobe in eBay the same as ds1's so just need to organise collecting it then can start sorting the boys clothes properly.
Then have to decide what to do with ds2's current storage thingie.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 04/08/2014 16:47

oh good show JKS Grin
cancelled my paypal yrs ago, but am considering reinstating it

JKSLtd · 04/08/2014 18:42

I am getting it tomorrow evening so will try and sort things on thurs (working wed). I think I'll use his drawers & hanging combo thing for dd and freecycle dd's current wardrobe which I got off freecycle a few years ago. It's an old wardrobe with just one rail but the door is narrower than the rail which is really annoying iykwim?

meisiemee · 06/08/2014 00:01

Sorry feel like a complete arse saying this but got to...
I have only bloody gone and done it! Cleared and gone through every single box, cupboard and drawer. Have tonnes to children's hospice and now can find anything!!!! Made me think twice already about purchasing anything this last week!
I am absolutely shattered!!!!!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 06/08/2014 08:32

Wine wahoo!! meisme bravo xx

JKSLtd · 06/08/2014 19:50

Wow well done Meisie!!
Does your house feel wonderfully uncluttered now?

New wardrobe is in. I need to get more trouser hangers and decide if the current setup is ok. And ideally get done shelves in the bottom of the hanging bit.

Ds2's old shelf/wardrobe thingie is currently on the landing. It's not really ideal for dd as the hanging bit is too short. Decisions decisions.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 07/08/2014 16:37

god I am haunting ebay need another set drawers for baby... bunk beds... and a smallish table & 2 chairs to form a double desk

dropped x1 bag stuff at the charity shop and came out with 5 new books for the dc and a highchair toy currently soaking in Milton Smile
I don't worry about buying books as books are wonderful

JKSLtd · 08/08/2014 07:16

Agree about books but I am trying to pass on the babyish ones to free up space !

Are you near an ikea? Great for small tables and chairs. The Lack tables are brilliant.
We got our bunks from M&S. Not really cheap but v well made and put together by the delivery guys.

JKSLtd · 10/08/2014 08:57

Managed to buy another wardrobe off eBay for a tenner. Hopefully pick it up today Smile

Also made some (rickety) shelves for the bottom of ds2's new wardrobe for more space. The mdf cost me £13+£12.50 for the wardrobe. Bargain.

Will have to freecycle the spare cupboards after the holiday I think.

Off on Saturday not at all organised yet!

JKSLtd · 10/08/2014 11:52

Bit annoyed with eBay seller as item is not where it was described so a long drive for me later. Grr.

Have finally put away kids 'work' in their memory boxes but really we need more boxes as ds1's is overfull now.

Mumof3xox · 10/08/2014 11:59

Meisie that sounds amazing

ChaffinchOfDoom · 10/08/2014 12:00

I noticed that on ebay with a table and chairs, was listed 5 miles from me..then right at bottom it said 'this is part of my mother's estate and must be collected from Leeds on sunday ............'

Leeds is over 250 miles away! glad I saw that

ChaffinchOfDoom · 10/08/2014 12:02

in the DM yesterday was an article in Femail I think, about how IKEA is now very expensive; and bargains can be found cheaper from John lewis! argos/Tesco/asda/ etc

great storage under bed plastic boxes from home bargains I bought 2 for built lego last week £2.99 each, I know Im going to end up buying more

TheLateMrsLizCromwell · 10/08/2014 14:52

meisiemee
very inspiring!
today spent the morning on it, and starting to see some light.
good as well if the effect it to make you think twice about buying stuff - I feel sick at the amount I have spent on, just stuff... Sad

JKSLtd · 10/08/2014 16:51

Home bargains for under bed boxes - mental note. Smile

Well in the good side the wardrobe IS where it was listed as being.
The bad news is that he seller got me mixed up with another buyer and was directing Me to his house to pickup something else entirely. Which means the wardrobe is still on his storage unit. Luckily he can store it until after the holidays.

Did some holiday shopping instead so not all bad.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 10/08/2014 18:22

yes thelatemrslizcromwell

it does add up rather... I like selling it back to at least get a few quids, it pays for parking on holiday daytrips
