Mad Fledglings March through the Spring cleaning

BitchytheGreat · 28/02/2014 20:40

So here we are, March already.

So for those who don't know the fledglings is a long running thread. Some of us seem clicky but that is because we have been chatting on these threads for nearly half a decade makes everyone feel old we quite like fresh blood though so feel free to jump in and join us.

Three key points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

If you are new then trying to spend 15mins decluttering and the babysteps is the most. Some of us Bitchy can have scary looking lists. One word of advice ignore them. Do what you can, anything is better then nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

Evening all!

Ta da
1 load of washing
washing upx2

trip to supermarket

(and not much else) Ah well, tomorrow is another day!

sanschocolat · 16/03/2014 19:53

Yes, bitchy whoknows toffee swan and bitchy and others - as Blue said - sympathies with battling the wretched system

Thanks Goth won't chicken out next time in that case! Think uploading on site is slow overall as all the dog people are uploading pics of their lovely pooches! Grin Congrats re: fireplace cleaning!

Enjoy the St Patrick's day celebrations Castle (we were meant to go on a parade today - yes there is one in Bxls believe it or not - but ran out of time). Well done re: the scrubbing!

Shock re mahoosive topsoil transporatation dizzy! Good luck with the potato growning and thanks for gardening advice down thread! Finally have germination here - yippee - was losing faith! Hope you and dd enjoy the concert tonight.

Sympathies over bedroom frustration even after 2 hrs spent on it Bitchy. Boudoir here is much easier to get back in to shape now it has been sorted a bit but so much fundamentally wrong with storage and logistics of house (everyone uses it as changing room as next to only bathroom) that it is never going to be great.

Big waves to everyone else!

Had a fab day in glorious weather! Muscles feeling the strain tonight after 10 mins on new exercise bike, 45 min hack on very wide horse [ouch!] and 20 min brisk walk after supper this evening trying to work off my extra helping of mash! Doesn't sound much but I am horribly unfit and very wobbly atm.

Also hobbling a bit. God knows how but managed to dismount this afternoon and land with force on upturned nail which went through boot sole and into padded bit just under thin part of toes ifyswim. Swore a bit. Didn't go in far thankfully and have Detol-ed and disinfected etc but still get sharp pain when I walk on it in a certain way. Just relieved it didn't go in horse's hoof. Mothers on school run will think I am mad, because have only just stopped hobbling from broken toe on other foot Grin Heigh ho!

Ta da:
washed uniform and hung up to dry outside

written note why maths hwk not finished!
1 hr sorting out boudoir whilst listening to ARchers omnibus
riding out in lovely countryside with dd
dealt with minor first aid emergency!
back home and straight out to garden whilst in mucky clothes to do 40 mins of gambolling with rabbits, distributing blood, fish and bone powder around hungry plants/putting special mulch around bases of 2 fruit tree, watering forthsyia, cutting vase of forthsyia for indoors, and finding and scrubbing out a few plant pots
supervised guitar practice 20 mins dd
brisk walk 20 mins there and back to deliver something locally (with dd on bike) - quick natter with neighbour
cooked supper - sausage and mash

folded laundered towels
hung up brown/green wash to dry

Waves to all!

sanschocolat · 16/03/2014 19:54

I used to play Ice Hockey - I saw up thread you are fans Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/03/2014 21:11

Well, I'm sitting here sunburnt Blush. Can't believe it, in March. Took DS to a hockey tournament this morning, was a bit worried because I'd forgotten to take my coat, ha ha! Should have taken my Factor 30 instead. Anyway, hockey went well, DS scored 5 goals (he was playing for the under-8s' despite being 10, because they were short of players in the under-8s and he's the smallest under-10).

Lazy sort of afternoon, mainly in the garden and then took DD to her swimming lesson.

DH has been on domestic duties today, we have a new bed being delivered tomorrow, our old one is 20 years old, knackered and really uncomfy, the new one is one of those lift up ones with storage underneath, so looking forward to lots of extra storage space. DH moved the old one out of the room today and did a through job of clearing all the crap off the floor and hoovering. He moved a lot of other stuff out too, so upstairs is a bit chaotic. He also managed to cook a roast dinner this afternoon, which was nice.

Yes to photo upload being slow at the moment, I've done a few over the last few weeks and they've been quite quick, but did some today that took a good 5 mins.

BitchytheGreat · 16/03/2014 21:12

Fans? no. dragged along for the ride? yes. HmmGrin

PLayoffs coming up some teams are fighting so hard to make the cut, it could be one of 3 teams to make the last place so the last few games are going to be so so fiesty/emotional.

thinking101 · 16/03/2014 21:24

im confused is it grass hockey you talk of?

BitchytheGreat · 16/03/2014 21:27

whoknows talks of both grass and Ice. I am of the ice world am afraid

thinking101 · 16/03/2014 21:30

aha! it is ice... I grew up in (hope I not out myself) in Durham, when the Wasps were mighty.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/03/2014 22:20

I went to an ice hockey match last night (our first as a family, it was organised through the DCs school), my DS plays field hockey.

thinking101 · 16/03/2014 22:40

who I found my first electrifying, but then I was an early teen an didnt have DC with me to worry about some aspects of the atmosphere. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/03/2014 23:20

I've only been once before, about 15 years ago (pre-DCs) and was amazed at how fast it was, but don't recall the same levels of violence (it was a woman's match Grin). The DCs have been exposed to "atmosphere" at football matches, so I wasn't too worried about that last night, we couldn't hear the players over the music and the stand we were in was entirely filled with families from our primary school, so fairly sedate too. DS described it as "wrestling on ice". I think we'll be going again.

CallingAllEngels · 17/03/2014 06:56

Morning all!

I would love to watch some more live sport. We have a Dutch "premier" club in my town only 5 minutes walk away, a basketball league team (one of my old American colleagues was here accompanying her basketballer husband) and we must have ice hockey as we have a rink ( though gets used a lot for speed skating which is HUGE over here).

ta da
Wash on

to do
hospital check up for ds
supermarket
Reading for school tomorrow
pop into town
more wash

sc our forsythia has suddenly sprung into bloom this weekend!

ds has slept in his own bed 3 times out of the last 5...feels like a victory even though he was a wake at 6am!

EustaciaVye · 17/03/2014 07:50

Morning all
routine done. about to head out to school and work. cleaner comes today so at least house will be nice tonight.

BitchytheGreat · 17/03/2014 08:10

whoknows - in theory woman's is no contact... doesn't mean it happens like that but it would reduce the violence. Also like I said there is a lot riding on the games at this point in the season. It is a tight fight for playoff places and the title race for the league has been tight this season. Look out for groupon offers around christmas time makes the family tickets much more affordable.

I went to bed early and tried to sleep but did that annoying not really asleep kinda still aware of surroundings sleep thing. Needless to say i would happily still be asleep now. Instead I have a mini mountain of laundry at the bottom of the stairs and a school run on the to do list. PLus ds was pissed off that he has a messy floor because i didn't do the lego aspect of what was evicted from his wardrobe. I did suggest if he didn't like it he could help. But that lead to mutterings about liking having a tidy floor and needing to be asleep now and to just let him go to bed HmmGrin

right coffee and time to function properly... well as properly as it is going to get.

Morning all. First morning since the op that I am feeling somewhat like my usual self. Still sore but haven't had to take any painkillers this morning and, though tired, am feeling ok.

I have little flying to report but dH is being a superstar. For all the times i have come on here and whinged about him i feel i must point out when he is being amazing.

The control freak in me is struggling though as he isn't doing it quite how I do it. His hanging out of the washing yesterday was plain wrong and made me feel all stabbyGrin.

Have a good day everyone.Smile

thinking101 · 17/03/2014 08:27

today is the day i tackle the bedroom.

there are jumbled piles of dirty clothes spilling out of laundry hamper Blush, pliles of clean clothes, winter clothes, outgrown clothes. the latter are all mixed up and belong to the different family members. a good sort out is needed.

thing is I always get it all leashed in piles on kitchen table, then it has nowhere to go. We have serious lack of clothes storage.

So a micro task list (dont laugh I need to break it down so much)

Strip bedding
Put all clothes on bed
Grab charity shop items
Remove any rubbish
Remove all the bits of non clothes items (inc toys, xmas decks, make up etc)
Open curtains and windows
Dust and hoover around

Other rooms
Kitchen - rescue needed
Living room - usual dust n hoover
Bathrooms - due a proper scrub

Laundry - hope I can get as much as I can outside on line and dryers.

Hotspot of household mail/junk

Cancel DS film thing and re-book for other date
Gruffaloe tickets
Plan meals for week

JustGettingOnWithIt · 17/03/2014 08:51

Have been reading but no time to catch up , hope to later today or tomorrow, but the nightmare continues here. I can’t actually manage what’s needed and am just muddling through as best as can be done and pick up the pieces afterwards (if there’s big enough bits) but somehow have to keep up with other stuff too. Another motivation to work and try not to kill anyone, on top of the rest of it, day.

Still to do
Rubbish treble bagged, and out
Recycling out, and in car
Emergency hand washing
Wash out food containers
Post card
Lose half a day to course
Pick up emergency supplies and even more bleach
Take rubbish to tip
Call hospital over missed ap,
Gas people to change ap, fill in complaint formMore industrial level cleaning – + remember to scrub sewage out of newly exposed fireplace
Paper sorting and boxing
Filing
Find proposed statement and proposed amendments in pile for exam applications.
Launderette washing and drying.
Hustle Ds about overdue lib books
Hustle Ds about English coursework urgent
Plan Dec 1 Maths catch up.
Plan other courses catch up
Dinner
Realise what vital stuff I've missed
Plan tomorrow
Listen to (champing at the bit!) friend
Sleeeeeeep.

dizzyday07 · 17/03/2014 08:53

Yesterday was a day of 2 halves. Spent the morning doing all our remaining ironing and putting all the dry washing away.

DD and I then caught the train to London and after not finding Pizza Express in Shepherds Bush had tea in a pub!

There is no allocated seating at the Empire so it comes down to first come, first served or having to stand. We were 3rd in the queue and after an hour of waiting got front row seats Grin. Just as the 2nd warm up act was on, DD complained of not feeling well, had a sore throat and was freezing despite sitting wrapped up in both our coats. Rebecca was fab (and DD perked up a bit for her performance), and luckily we found a little shop on the way back to the station to buy calpol and strepsils.

We had to change unexpectedly at Reading (supposedly to get a bus home due to rail works) but then we had to leg it across the station to get a train. AAARRGGHH!!!

She's still not right this morning, so is off school, but I will keep her dosed up and hopefully it will pass today.

dizzyday07 · 17/03/2014 08:57

Sans - Most of our internally growing seeds have germinated - with the cucumber seedlings already 2" high Shock. We seem to have a bit of movement in the outside bed too and I need to get my potatoes in their pots today
