Flying into September - a new term for the Fledglings

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/08/2013 22:14

Welcome to the September Fledgling Flylady Thread.

This thread is for people with CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). We follow Flylady, the website with a mission!

All are welcome on this thread, experienced flyers and newcomers alike.

We try to follow the commandments of Flylady as we run our homes, loosely anyway. In between there's lots of chat and support as we go through our daily lives. We have coffee, cake, and a naughty corner for those who want to chat but CBA with their house some days. However you follow it, this thread is designed to make your life a little easier and more fun.

For those who are new to the system (and those needing a refresher), there are several aspects to the system:

  1. Babysteps. These build a routine. Some are really useful, some are downright odd and some are, quite frankly, there to be ignored. They build a good foundation though.
  1. Decluttering. Flylade is evangelical about clutter. In order to feel good about our homes we need to ditch the clutter. Flylady divides the home into zones, week by week and repeating monthly. As well as babysteps, we have to declutter in the relevant zone. Once that is achieved we move on to...
  1. Missions. Also in the current zone, these are targetted tasks to tackle one particular aspect. One a day, they vary month to month.
  1. Deep Cleaning. Once we have completely decluttered (some of us seem to be stuck permanently on that stage) there are deep cleaning lists for each zone. Achieve that and your house will be spotless!

One last thing - the Flylady website encourages us to subscribe to her emails - one word - DON"T! You will be overwhelmed by them. Instead come to this thread every morning and the relevant links for the day will be there waiting for you except when the thread leader has been on the Wine

A big thank you to Bitchy for last month, and also for doing this Sunday's links as I am off camping.

BitchytheGreat · 09/09/2013 07:01

Shock toffee that list is longer then mine. And I got told off by ellie

today there will be little flying. I am out first thing, out tonight and i have some paperwork to deal with in the middle.

Ds has also caught some lovely back to school bugs and i am not sure he will make school tuesday, tbh it is a bit iffy today.

ToffeeWhirl · 09/09/2013 10:18

I have beaten Bitchy in the list stakes! Woohoo!

Sorry your DS is ill, Bitchy. Hope it passes quickly.

Ta da :

Woken at 6 first by delivery lorry, then by DS1 joining us for a cuddle (could have done with the extra hour I was expecting )
Dressed to waterproof boots because it was pouring outside
DS2's b/fast
Rushed to corner shop
Made packed lunch for DS2
Put d/w on
Dr's appt for DS1 - booked
Phoned friend to arrange to collect her prescription on the way (she has suspected pneumonia, poor thing)
School run
Helped with listening to reading in DS2's class (couldn't do this last year because DS1 didn't like being left alone, but he doesn't mind now)
Home for my b/fast and DS1's b/fast
Swished and swiped in b/room
Cancelled blood donation later because I still have a cold and chesty cough - very annoying

To do :

Collect friend's prescription
Walk to dr's
CBT practice session in Cafe Nero with DS1 (am enjoying this Smile)
Deliver meds to friend
Home ed at home
Lunch
School run
Appt with 'green doctor' (we now have a water meter and he's going to help us save money, hopefully)
More ironing and put clothes away
Evening routine

Hope everyone has a good day today.

Asheth · 09/09/2013 10:45

Asheth · 09/09/2013 11:41

So my Ta Da list so far -
Packed lunches made
school run done
shopping
mission completed
2 min kitchen hot spot blitzed
microwave cleaned
downstairs toilet cleaned
15 mins decluttering of hallway
DS1's bed changed

Amazing what I can achieve when the DC aren't here! Got a school run to do in a minute as DS3 is still on half days!

Jesstryinghard · 09/09/2013 11:55

toffee that's a ridiculous list considering its not even midday !! Go sit in the corner and think about what a lazy moo you've made me feel Angry

I have dropped my son off for his first day in key stage 2 - where did that time go ?? Sad

I went tesco to get some overpriced bits

And then I came home and I'm so cold I haven't even taken my coat off !!

Swanhilda · 09/09/2013 12:21

yesterday we sent to church, cooked a curry, and ds1 managed to bump into some friends locally Smile which is unusual

today I have done
very early start at 6.50 and in no particular order:
tidied kitchen
washed up v grimy pots/baking dishes from the weekend
cleared out old food from fridge
dropped ds2 at school by car
waved dd off to her bus at 7,10
rubbish cleared from dd's room
hung up clothes in dd's cupboard and rationalized
decluttered big batch of summer stuff from her room
washed two detachable loo seats in bath
s & s one loo
put away clean clothes
hung out wet clothes
another wash in
rubbish from utility and kitchen
food compost
paper recycling outside
big pile of stuff upstairs to my bedroom to sort out

cleaning lady has done
kitchen/utility worksurfaces
kitchen tiles/shone sink
washed downstairs floor
hoovered stairs/landing
changed ds1 bed

I am exhausted and we've only managed to do half the house between us...Confused

Okay, my room is still a dumping ground, dd's bedroom needs sheets changed, and floor hoovered, and more decluttering
the supper needs to be cooked (fish and potato pie) and then I need to pick ds2 up at 2.45.

Also need to do but suspect not today:
Big Rubbish to Dump
order a greenhouse
order some more shrubs for back border
all the paperwork that is piled up
fill in diary
buy a sack of potatoes for shed

feetheart · 09/09/2013 14:10

Had a brilliant time yesterday at the Radio2 Festival in a Day. DD's first venture into live music and she loved it. Everyone was good but we now both want to see the Manics live on their own :)

Glad you got cake and lunch out PA but sorry there were sad bits in the day too.

Toffee - HUGE well done to your DS1, you are all doing brilliantly. I think an email to the CBT therapist telling her you want to hug her would be good if you don't feel you can do it for real. She is obviously working wonders with DS1 and the knock-on effects for all of you shine through in your recent posts :)
Better start looking at MoneySavingExpert for vouchers - even better, get DS to do it :)

Just - horrible-sounding situation :(

Feeling very CBA today as danced a lot yesterday and got home rather late but have LOADS to do:

Ta da:

  • All up and out with surprising ease considering DD wasn't in bed until midnight Blush
  • Various School Assoc emails to round up the troops for event this week
  • Washing x 2, including sodden picnic blanket that doubled very effectively as a tent when it rained
  • A tiny bit of work
  • Talked to builder and door-fixer man who will be back on Thursday to replace locking mechanism on new front door
  • Pin DH down to trip to flooring place to choose laminate as this is now holding up the last bits of the extension
  • Take chicken out of freezer and hope it defrosts by dinnertime

To do:

  • Anything useful would be good Hmm
JemimaMuddledUp · 09/09/2013 15:14

Busy day today, been too busy doing the basics to look at this week's FlyLady topic. Will have to do double tomorrow.

Ta Da
Breakfasts
Washed up
Wiped around kitchen
Washed and dried 3 loads of washing
Cycled kids to school (actually remembering DD's violin - gold star for me!) and went to work
Left work at lunchtime, picked DS2 up from school and took him to his SALT appointment (then for a celebratory Costa as he did really well)
Took DS2 back to school
Swept kitchen floor
Wiped bathroom and toilets

To Do
Pick DC up from school
Clean out fridge before Tesco delivery tonight
Dinner
Take DD to Brownies
Supervise DS1 and DS2's homework
Ironing

JustGettingOnWithIt · 09/09/2013 16:16

Who knows I don't think becoming old is advisable any more.

Bitchy hope ds is ok

Toffee likewise your friend.

Trying to find my equilibrium here.

Still to do
Washing
ironing
Call re medical supplies
English prep
English
Listen to friend
Write up H ed diary
Dinner
sleep (pleeease)

BitchytheGreat · 09/09/2013 17:19

Ds is still very snotty but part of the issue was not wanting to go to school cos he was worrying. He was convinced it was a good idea to try to face his fear and he has been ok since getting home. Still rather off but not enough to consider missing school tomo.

Sorted lots of little low level stuff out today, which has made me Grin but not really counting as flying. done a load of washing though but these day actually getting the load into the machine doesn't feel like flying, it is the getting it folded and put away that is more of an issue.

Blueandwhitelover · 09/09/2013 18:51

Ta da
Kitchen wiped over-noone here to make a mess as ds3 has gone back
Washed dinner dishes from yesterday and today

Not done
Hoovered- bedroom floor is looking desperate

BitchytheGreat · 09/09/2013 19:45

Ds has signed up for an after school club that focuses on an area that he is weakest in. Amusingly he was honest and had only decided it was a good idea because it uses computers a lot. But was happy enough when i made sure that he knew he was likely to find it difficult. He agreed it would help improve him in the area he is weakest in so was a good idea.

ta da
sort out various bits and bobs
sort out school paperwork
find ds' uniform for tomo
sort out the to do list for tomo
1 load of washing in machine

There are currently 3 loads waiting to be folded and put away. I am not sure what the plans are for tonight but tbh i am quite happy for going out plans to be cancelled and to go to sleep early.

JemimaMuddledUp · 09/09/2013 19:51

To do list turned to ta da list.

Just waiting for my Tesco delivery so I can put that away, and for the DC to all get their PJs on so I can put their uniforms on to wash.

Really hoping that Tesco come at the earlier end of the 8-10pm slot as I am shattered and really want to go to bed.

ToffeeWhirl · 09/09/2013 20:12

Jess - I can only apologise . Not sure what came over me, but I'm sure normal service will be resumed shortly.

feet - thank you for your lovely post Smile. That's a very good idea about emailing the CBT therapist. I might then be able to restrain myself from hugging her next time we meet. She is the only person who has made any difference to DS1.

Have completed my 'ta da' list and also done another trip to Aldi. Am now getting DS2 to bed and then the rest of us are watching 'Blackout'.

BitchytheGreat · 09/09/2013 20:23

Grin @ toffee getting into trouble. i just get ignored. mostly. WinkGrin

GoingGoingGoth · 09/09/2013 21:15

No one ignores you Bitchy it isn't safe Grin

Done
Morning routines
Dd to school
Laundry out
Trip to city
Collect DD from school
Laundry in
Made shepherds pie
Next load laundry in
DD to karate
Washing up & SS

Need to work out how to include power tools more in housework. DD has been cooking (good thing) but it mainly involves frying Sad and my pans are in a right state. So I got some Astonish today, as it shines them up a treat with a bit of work DH finds me working away, and they did look better, but he has taken over with his dremel!!! They look amazing, so what else could he do?

BitchytheGreat · 09/09/2013 22:02
Shock
BitchytheGreat · 09/09/2013 22:03

Err Goth they weren't non stick were they befor dh used his dremmel?

Swanhilda · 09/09/2013 22:07

well today the sh**t definitely hit the fan as we now have dd screaming over her homework as well as ds2 screaming over the usual things Hmm

However, done
dd homework
picked up ds2
supervised everyone's homework (unruly printer and computer accounted for a lot of screaming)
no telly!
ds2 went to football
fish pie baked Smile
ds1 then screamed HE hated fish pie (bones) so like some miracle I was able to calm him down with leftover homemade curry
cleared supper
had a mild row with dh over the issue of whether Lily Cole was a "woman who inspires me"l (dd homework). Personally as dd didn't even know who Lily Cole was, it would have been better if she'd picked someone famous like Jane Austen or Mme Curie HmmHmm or even, my favourite Elizabeth Fry.
ds1 PE kit out
bags packed, diaries signed

Soooo, we need to further refine our evening routine and stop the children screaming..

However, good news is that dd's room is very very orderly and clean now which should make the rest of the week calmer. Ditto, ds1's room.

need to
wash up/put dw on

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/09/2013 22:43

Evening all,

Ta-da!
Basic routines, school, work, pilates class, dinner, swimming. Two lots of washing and that's about it for the house today Blush. Got a full day at work tomorrow as well, but hoping to catch up a bit on Weds when I have a day off.

Hope all the screaming has ceased Swan.

Goth - you made me laugh with the pans and the Dremmel, you should write to Flylady and recommend that one.

Jemima hope you got your early night.

Bitchy - good for DS with the club.

Waves at everyone else. I'm tired and got an early start tomorrow, DCs to breakfast club for 7.46 (which is usually when DD drags herself out of bed. That'll be fun then Confused.

Links for Tuesday

Babystep the power of 15 minutes, another good one, just put your mind to it and you can get a lot done.

Mission wipe those cabinet doors down.

Tuesday's Daily Focus is Planning, you probably don't need a link for that but there is one in the Launchpad

OP posts:
BlueEyeshadow · 09/09/2013 22:50

Did manage to do the mission this morning and a bit of general tidying up but not much else. Have been to choir for the first time since the summer and new phone has arrived so spent way too much time playing with it. :)

BitchytheGreat · 09/09/2013 22:57

That wasn't what I was Shock @

A dremel is the only thing that has rescued a pot or two in my past. And wouldn't even rescue one of them. Just doesn't do non stick pans any favours
