Flying into September - a new term for the Fledglings

Welcome to the September Fledgling Flylady Thread.

This thread is for people with CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). We follow Flylady, the website with a mission!

All are welcome on this thread, experienced flyers and newcomers alike.

We try to follow the commandments of Flylady as we run our homes, loosely anyway. In between there's lots of chat and support as we go through our daily lives. We have coffee, cake, and a naughty corner for those who want to chat but CBA with their house some days. However you follow it, this thread is designed to make your life a little easier and more fun.

For those who are new to the system (and those needing a refresher), there are several aspects to the system:

  1. Babysteps. These build a routine. Some are really useful, some are downright odd and some are, quite frankly, there to be ignored. They build a good foundation though.
  1. Decluttering. Flylade is evangelical about clutter. In order to feel good about our homes we need to ditch the clutter. Flylady divides the home into zones, week by week and repeating monthly. As well as babysteps, we have to declutter in the relevant zone. Once that is achieved we move on to...
  1. Missions. Also in the current zone, these are targetted tasks to tackle one particular aspect. One a day, they vary month to month.
  1. Deep Cleaning. Once we have completely decluttered (some of us seem to be stuck permanently on that stage) there are deep cleaning lists for each zone. Achieve that and your house will be spotless!

One last thing - the Flylady website encourages us to subscribe to her emails - one word - DON"T! You will be overwhelmed by them. Instead come to this thread every morning and the relevant links for the day will be there waiting for you except when the thread leader has been on the Wine

A big thank you to Bitchy for last month, and also for doing this Sunday's links as I am off camping.

Happy Birthday PA Wine Cake Flowers

Thanks everyone for the congrats to DS1. PA is right though - he is now going to cost us a bloody fortune! He wants to go out again soon .

DS1 was invited to a friend's all-day birthday party today, but it involved a long car journey and people he didn't know very well. I made the decision that he couldn't go, in the end, as he couldn't decide. Bearing in mind that CBT is all about taking small steps to build up confidence, I decided there was too much of a risk that he would find it too much and feel a failure and I don't want him to lose his newfound confidence. We have invited his friend round for a pizza takeaway on Tuesday night instead and DS1 seems happy with this (and was secretly relieved that I made the decision for him, I suspect).

Just taking the boys out to the playground again, then a friend is coming round for coffee. Very little Flying taking place here, but am having such a fab time Grin.

DC's slept at DSIL's for the first time last night. I was expecting them back by now and her to be pulling her hair out but not yet.

Ta da:-
Washing on line
Dryer on
Washing away
Hoovered upstairs
Put curtains up in DS room
S/s bathroom
Made beds

To do:-
Very little else
Sunday dinner
Pack bags etc.

pa Happy Birthday.ThanksWine. Hope you have a lovely day.Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/09/2013 11:36

Yay! Finished and submitted my OU assignment. Better go and get dressed I suppose. Sitting at the kitchen table with the back door open listening to the pouring rain but frozen solid.

Going to take DD out for lunch to get away from the Formula 1 and make our first, tiny Christmas preparation (ok, shoot me for that) - buying hyacinth bulbs for forcing. We do it as soon as the DCs go back to school every year, they each have one of those glass vases that you grow them in.

Oh poo, that wasn't decaff coffee I managed to make in my not quite awake state.
Guess it will be a long list kinda day.

ta da
Sort plans for tomo
put first load of washing on
chuck laundry and washing up that has collected out of my room
collect together recycling
find bin liners
empty bin
start a bag of stuff for the charity shop
start a pile of stuff to be moved to the office for going away
eat ice cream - a very important thing imo
sort out a few things training kit wise
Sort out in my head the order of half finished projects for getting completed
Get really pissed off with the layout of the room and state of disrepair some of the furniture is in
Try to figure out the best way to utilise the storage (ie move stuff in immediate access into longer term storage as it is just not getting used atm and no point it cluttering up the space)
Have a good gossip with a friend via internet stuff
Check internet stuff
Wonder where the fuck i have managed to burry my phone - i got a txt earlier.
Ditto with tv remote. Under the stuff in progress of being sorted on bed

right time to grab a shower and feel slightly less icky.

Jesstryinghard · 08/09/2013 11:47

Aldi rules

That is all

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/09/2013 12:09

We're an Aldi free zone here, none within about 45 mins drive, so I have never been in one Sad.

OP posts:
Jesstryinghard · 08/09/2013 12:34

whoknows it's not that near to me but when I go over there I'm so impressed, especially the fruit and veg :) my son demolishes that many punnets of blueberries and stuff that getting such things less than half tesco price is kinda a big deal :))

elliepac · 08/09/2013 12:51

jess. I am a recent Aldi convert after being a Tesco girl through and through for all my adult life. Still pop to Tesco for a few bits and bobs but am saving 40/50 a week on food shop and that is not to be sniffed at!

wendyhappysmile · 08/09/2013 13:31

Happy birthday positive

I'm a Lidl girl myself Smile

Done a fair bit today
Decluttered front garden and a bit of back, and sent DH to tip with a full boot full. yay!
Tidied up quite a bit in kitchen
Laid in after a disturbed night's sleep (DS2)
Planned my lessons for tomorrow!
Made 'special' breakfast

To do
Lidl
take DD to party
routines (eek)
more planning
More decluttering

Happy Sundays

Jesstryinghard · 08/09/2013 13:51

40-50 a week ellie that's awesome - how do you find the meat - I'm never happy with the hockey from there - everything else has been good

JemimaMuddledUp · 08/09/2013 14:32

If you are Aldi Mum then Ed Milliband wants your votes Wink

GoingGoingGoth · 08/09/2013 14:58

Lidl girl here too (no Aldi near)

Mixed day here, at work with only 3 weeks until I finish eek! They've been really nice, but can't take me on perminantly Sad but I think I can be confident that thay'll take me back on in April if I don't find anything else.

I left my phone at home, so was resigned to a day without web access, but DH & DD arrived an hour later with it. They've had lunch with me here, and are now exploring the park.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PA Hope you have a lovely day Cake Wine Flowers

BlueEyeshadow · 08/09/2013 16:13

Happy Birthday, PA!

Jess - I love Aldi too, though I split my shop between there and Sainsburys as there are some things I can't or won't get in Aldi - I don't generally buy their meat or milk, for instance.

Downstairs is now completely wrecked as the boys try out all DS2's new birthday toys at once. We're going to have to have a bit of a toy amnesty I think.

Some friends just popped round with a little present for him. They're expecting their first around Christmas time and always come away from ours a bit Shock and Confused!

JemimaMuddledUp · 08/09/2013 19:15

Ta Da
Washed and tumble dried 3 loads of washing
Washed dishes several times
Wiped around kitchen
Wiped round bathroom and toilets
Hoovered upstairs and downstairs
Cooked a roast
Meal planned for next week and finalised Tesco order
Ironing
Tidied up
Wrote cheques and filled in permission forms for school tomorrow
Got uniforms and schoolbags ready for tomorrow
Got DD's Brownie uniform ready for tomorrow night
Filled the bird feeders in the garden
Cleaned school shoes

Also managed to rope myself into the Sunday School rota at church, not sure how they talked me into that one Hmm

Blueandwhitelover · 08/09/2013 19:23

Ta da
There is not a single piece of ironing to do in this house :-)

Not done
hoovering
dusting
bathroom cleaning

PositiveAttitude · 08/09/2013 19:47

Thank you for all the birthday wishes. Plenty of Wine and Cake (made by DS Wink ) available for everyone to share!

A very mixed day. Not spoken with DH Sad because DD4 had secretly opened her own skype account and logged out of DH's meaning he could not log into his because he is rubbish at passwords etc..... I imagine the air was pretty icy between them in Cambodia - he was fuming!!!!
Took DD2 to the boat and waved bye bye and sat and blubbed like a baby!!

BUT DD3, son in law and DS took me out for a lovely lunch.

Ironing is looking at me trying to make me feel guilty......it wont work today - I will get to it tomorrow, I promise!!

Right glass is full, just waiting for x-factor and that is me done for the day...... I will try to get on track tomorrow again for the millionth time

elliepac · 08/09/2013 19:57

Evening all.Smile

Ended up quite a productive day despite the hangover.

Ta da:-
Washed and dried and out away 3 loads (washing basket empty apart from odd socks and some curtainsShock)
Put curtains up in DS and our room
Sunday roast for the first time in ages (chicken if you are interestedWinkGrin)
Hoovered throughout
Pack-ups made
Uniform out
Dc's bathed
Washing up
Maintenance tidy

jess every week, doesn't matter what I put in the trolley, I spend somewhere between £70/80. If I go to a main supermarket I spend around £120. I think I pick up things because i fancy them more in supermarkets whereas I don't tend to do that in Aldi. Only things I don't buy there are coffee, washing powder and toiletries (although the lacura range is fab). I find the meat OK. It does have short dates on it often though and DH isn't keen on the steak.

Better go and get a bath myself. Am absolutely pooped.

ToffeeWhirl · 08/09/2013 20:49

I'm another recent Aldi convert. Have found the quality just as good as elsewhere, but ££££ cheaper Smile. We have just started to do our main shop there, popping in to Waitrose afterwards for the stuff we can't get.

ellie - hope you are feeling better now. Glad you had a good night out Smile. Thanks for your congrats for DS1. I just hope it lasts. Am trying not to hope too much, as he has made progress before, then fallen behind again.

WhoKnows - well done on completing your OU assignment. I'm so impressed that you manage to fit it in.

Bitchy - hope you got through your long-list-kinda day.

Gotta go. BBL.

BitchytheGreat · 08/09/2013 21:00

Nope I decided to do the sensible thing an go out so didn't get very much more done tbh. Just discovering my bed chucking things back on the floor and will then be getting an early night.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/09/2013 21:43

Ellie - I was thinking this today as I did my main weekly shopping (in Waitrose as it happens. Most of the basics are no dearer than Sainsburys (our only other supermarket) but treats are far more tempting in Waitrose. On the other hand I'm more likely to pick up clothes, household bits and bobs that I don't really need in Sainsburys. There's a Lidl near where I work, but with my hours / school run times I don't get time to do more than pop in occasionally.

Anyway. Ta-da!

Two lots of washing
Tidying
Took DD to lunch and the garden centre for the hyacinth bulbs
More baking - it has been a weekend full of baking (yesterday was bread, cakes and scotch pancakes, today has been pizza base and scones).
Took DS to his cricket club awards ceremony, which was nice, plus a mile walk each way to burn off a bit of the baking.
Got DCs to do dishwasher and washing up
That's about it really

Relieved to have finished the OU module, got a month free now till I start another one, going to go and watch a bit of telly now (haven't really watched any for weeks). Back in a minute with links.

Lost today to horrible and difficult events. One of the two neighbours lost their struggle with terminal illness, and while I totally understand that there is protocol to be followed when a vulnerable person is bereaved, I?m absolutely gutted to see the actual treatment meted out to the most vulnerable person at the most vulnerable time, and that?s with someone cushioning the worst of it.
They?re finally back safe and sound and looked after now, but why on earth..? Sad
