Flying into September - a new term for the Fledglings

Welcome to the September Fledgling Flylady Thread.

This thread is for people with CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). We follow Flylady, the website with a mission!

All are welcome on this thread, experienced flyers and newcomers alike.

We try to follow the commandments of Flylady as we run our homes, loosely anyway. In between there's lots of chat and support as we go through our daily lives. We have coffee, cake, and a naughty corner for those who want to chat but CBA with their house some days. However you follow it, this thread is designed to make your life a little easier and more fun.

For those who are new to the system (and those needing a refresher), there are several aspects to the system:

1. Babysteps. These build a routine. Some are really useful, some are downright odd and some are, quite frankly, there to be ignored. They build a good foundation though.

1. Decluttering. Flylade is evangelical about clutter. In order to feel good about our homes we need to ditch the clutter. Flylady divides the home into zones, week by week and repeating monthly. As well as babysteps, we have to declutter in the relevant zone. Once that is achieved we move on to...

1. Missions. Also in the current zone, these are targetted tasks to tackle one particular aspect. One a day, they vary month to month.

1. Deep Cleaning. Once we have completely decluttered (some of us seem to be stuck permanently on that stage) there are deep cleaning lists for each zone. Achieve that and your house will be spotless!

One last thing - the Flylady website encourages us to subscribe to her emails - one word - DON"T! You will be overwhelmed by them. Instead come to this thread every morning and the relevant links for the day will be there waiting for you except when the thread leader has been on the

Although I have been keeping up with the basic routines, and I did change the beds this morning. Today has mostly been about having a facial and my nails done, shopping for clothes and eating cake. But Saturday is Family Fun Day...

I seem to manage to get lots of housework done at the start of the week, then just do the minimum to keep on top of it for the rest of the week. I suppose if the system works I shouldn't complain.

An un-MN hug for JustGettingOnWithItit sounds as though you are going through the mill at the moment

Evening all, another family fun day here, was meant to be a short bike ride today (ha ha) another 3 hours out, at least an hour was in a play park.

On the down side DD came off her bike in a spectacular fashion after hitting a pothole at speed. Luckily only grazed palms which was cured with kisses, cuddles and blackberries. Despite stating she would never get on that bike again, she was back on it in 5 mins.

Done FA Flying, except keeping on top of the laundry.

Morning all,

Family Day yesterday, was mostly fun, with a bit of work thrown in. DS went to a Cubs activity in the morning, I went shopping and picked up new glasses. I am very short-sighted indeed and normally wear contacts, but need glasses too, my last pair were falling to bits, these ones are much better (lens technology seems to have moved on since I last got some, which is very helpful when you are as blind as me). For the first time in my adult life I seem to be able to see better with glasses than contacts, but I would be VERY reluctant to wear glasses full time .

My parents came over in the afternoon, we went to a funfair together, then dinner and Strictly, I love our Saturday evenings snuggled on the sofa watching it together, it leaves a big void when it ends, there are very few programmes we all like to watch together (and films don't work, I can't abide children's films).

Just - hope you are making some progress with your planning and listing.

Swan - well done to DS1 for the rugby, gives me hope for my DS!

No mission on a Sunday, tomorrow we have one day in Zone 5, when we will be decluttering our living rooms, then on Tuesday it's back to Zone 1 (the hall, dining room etc).

Does anyone else find it strange that the living room is always cut short? I know it's because it's the last zone but I never (rarely ) gets a decent sort out. I wonder why the bathroom zone isn't the last one. Well I think I might extend it for myself this week and skip the entrance hall and dining room. I have barely a hall and the dining room is our playroom which will never look completely decluttered dispose my best efforts.

I am fine I promise, thank you for all the concern :)

Yes, I wonder the same Nick - however I have only one bathroom and loo, maybe if you have several it needs more zone time.

I never wondered about this. tbh i am not sure i have ever followed the zones properly

Glad you are feeling a bit better Nicknacks but do remember that you will succumb more easily for the next couple of months so don't push too hard.

Long day doing fun stuff with ds. Exhausted this morning and have succumbed to a virus so feeling pretty rubbish. Ds has homework and then we are going to do fun stuff this afternoon. I have to find some sense of life to ensure that there are cloths and school uniform for tomo. No real plan but i think it might have to feature cake or something.

Hollow victory re yesterday's babystep, last night, finishing off dinner with someone choosing to sit in angry silence on the phone not talking to me, and I let them get on with it, as worn thin with their dramas, even if they can't help it, and ate my dinner through it trying to actively enjoy it instead of trying to help them out of their behaviour. Don't know if tonight will bring more anger or an acceptance of my limitations though.

No chance of today's babystep either, will slap some face cream on as a token gesture.

been away to the midlands for a wedding, had a fabulous time but have done no housework or pampering since. got to come back with a vengeance now, holiday in 4 weeks

Evening all. I have had the most lovely weekend with the dc's at the caravan. Day out yesterday followed by a 'games morning' this morning ending in charades. Very funny. Back home now and although not an ounce of cleaning had been done the place was relatively tidy.

Was my last day at work, which was a bit sad, as I met some nice people whilst working there, but might be back there next summer.
DH & DD came in to see me and brought a picnic which was lovely, they then had a game of Pitch n Putt and the we all played bowls, I did say it was the best job in the world

So, just need to 'revise' for my interview tomorrow....

Babystep 31 - as there isn't a 31st this month, here it is anyway - don't get bogged down trying to learn everything about FLylady at once. Also very wise.

Mission - declutter your living room of excess books, DVDs, magazines etc.

Oh god, just looking around living room, maybe more than 15 minutes required tomorrow

How is it nearly October?

It isn't nearly October, it really isn't, it is a figment of someone's twisted imagination, it is still only August... at least. Summer will not be over (stamps foot) :)

Busy w/e here with me working for some of it, DH exhausted and nursing dodgy back, various children at gymnastics/parties/sleepovers. However DH has made shelves for my our HUGE new cupboard in new bit of hall, I stripped more woodwork and we painted a wall.
Builder back today to start all the 'finishing off' jobs (of which there are many)

I am expecting this week to be busy and stressful, mainly due to situation with tenant. Should know by later today where things are going so need to get as much work done as possible today to allow me to respond to any madness that ensues
We also have two high school open evenings to get to this week!
Even I may have to resort to

• Sort out things for lovely tenants in house I manage for nightmare friend

• Try to sort out Chaperone licence for DD's dance show - I've always helped, now I need to jump through a huge number of hoops to do so and have probably left it too late
• Try not to stress about what will/won't happen with tenant in flat

I have had three cups of coffee already this morning. Clearly it is not working.

I hate this time of year, but this year it is particularly bad!!

And yes I clearly need to be brewing up a batch of special brew! ffs I am not with it today. Can I blame the trauma on it?

Oh no, Bitchy, I hate this time of year for the same reason. We have had several of the beasts already. How can I stop them coming in? I hope that thread has some ideas. Am thinking of crawling round on hands and knees stopping up every crack.

DS1 has now gone back to sleep, but has an appointment with his CBT therapist at 11, so I have to wake him up. I worry about how he is going to get through the school day when his sleep is so erratic.
