I'd take that as a result, Ruby Smile.

Got rid of 15 Tupperwares of varying shapes and sizes today, leaving me with 13. I actually did a clear-out of that cupboard a few months ago, so God knows how many I had originally!

I put their plentitude down to an earlier decluttering/sorting phase I had, which involved using labelled plastic boxes to store all your dried goods. I even have had a label maker Blush.

Trouble was, emptying the bags of flour/dried fruit/sugar etc into the boxes every time I shopped proved to be too much effort, although it did free up cupboard space.
I now use add-on shelf thingies and open baskets to to store clipped packets < handy hints >.

Still haven't faced the top shelf - three boxes of biscuit cutters, icing nozzles, etc.

had finished last two chairs andctook them to school yesterday afternoon - they love them!

almost finished making 6 matching cushions for the other sofa type seats.

I actually decided to reupholster our dining room chairs in black faux leather.

I was told that I have OUD - Obsessive Upholstery Disorder. Grin

amazingmumof6 · 13/06/2013 04:22

I actually consider these new projects as decluttering as
the textiles used for chairs & cushions have been taken out from my ex- store fabric samples ( I'm such a hoarder when it comes toy hobbies! )

so win- win!Smile

Hello! A little late to the party . . . but count me in! Cannot wait to de-clutter my house and get rid of soooo much crap (that MIL gives us for birthdays/Christmas). Have even convinced my DSis to sell stuff on ebay for me with the promise of a night out with the sales we make.

Started on my filing today and cleared a load of no longer needed paper work off the kitchen side. Woo hoo! Going to work through the list tomorrow.

badchat · 16/06/2013 22:28

Ooh.. thread has gone a bit quiet. Everyone too busy working their way through piles of junk? Or are we hitting the delcuttering marathon wall? (Or you all jsut have way more exciting weekends than I do and are not thinking about decluttering on a Sunday eve Grin )

I am starting to feel like there is a long way to go. Still, am on day 16 and have done at least something from the list every day, if not 10 items/30 mins.

Weirdly, am finding that decluttering is reminding me of lots of things I need to GET, rather than get rid of! (E.g. going through 'first aid box' which is literally just a box of plasters, making me think I should get a little more prepared, going through cleaning cupboard realising I need a load of replacement mop heads etc.)

I am also finding the decluttering is exposing lots of areas that haven't been bothered by the hoover in a good long while. Quite gross. Am thinking that after this I will need to do a 30 day 30 minute cleaning blitz for all these odd little cleaning tasks I keep noticing and adding to a mental to-do list...

amazingmumof6 · 16/06/2013 22:31

hi badchat

do you want to see an awesome cake I made for my DD's 1st birthday?

completely off topic, but I've just been given the power to upload photos, so I'm trigger happy!

thanks Ruby !

and great progress!

unlike me - I keep starting new projects instead of tucking into the cutlery drawer of Day1!

my mum is leaving on Saturday, so I decided to reupholster all our dining room chairs by then. I did 2 today and hoping to finish the other 9 by Tuesday night. She is looking after two little ones, so I can get on with stuff I can't normally do with them around!

I really want to get started, but other things seem more important!

Plus tomorrow I've got courtesy car delivered then ours picked up for mending, have to go post office to send sold Ebay stuff and food shopping, DS4's friend is coming over to play.

then kids' got sport days (Tuesday one school, Wednesday another) plus I want to take DS5 for playgroup try-out days twice this week.

On Thursday plumber is coming, Friday I'm going to a Quilt show, plus the usual choir practice for DS1 and piano lessons for DS1 & DS2, homework for oldest four.....it never ends!

not complaining btw, just trying to figure out when I can join with decluttering - maybe next week?Grin

badchat · 17/06/2013 13:03

Sorry - missed you last night! Was sneaking in a quick internet before bed...

A-mazing cake! My icecream-obsessed DD would be so impressed with that.

and maybe off-topic but v relevant for me as I need to start planning 3rd party for DD for July.

I have some very rare time with no kids this week - v strange feeling! Chance to do a bit of quiet decluttering, although I am also planning a much-needed clothes shop (honestly it is not recluttering - I only own one bra, and even that doesn't fit!) and a bit of pampering. Woop woop.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 17/06/2013 13:14

Can i join? my 3 have 23 days until they break up!

I have been plodding my way through the clutter over the last few months, but have become de-motivated after i caught ds stinking cold a couple of weeks ago.
I still have 2 spare bedrooms half full of clutter and both ds's are having to share because of it. I would love to give them there own space this year!

amazingmumof6 · 17/06/2013 14:58

NK can I ask if you are a distant relative of C3PO or R2D2?

and how do you pronounce it EXACTLY?

soory, I know I'm rude, but I actually love how it's sooooo random!Grin Grin Grin

amazingmumof6 · 17/06/2013 16:07

amazingmumof6 · 17/06/2013 16:58

I'm in!

I feel like I'm literally drowning in rubbish. And my DH doesn't help because he wants to sell everything rather than donate/tip it. Our garage is stuffed full of crap (that nobody wants) waiting to go on eBay or to the booty. I just want to chuck the lot but DH thinks that would be like throwing money away. And to make it worse he buys more crap from the tip with the intention of selling it for profit. I admit that he's been quite successful with a couple of items, but I wish he wouldn't waste his time and energy doing that for a few quid when we need to get rid of the rubbish mountain we're drowning in.

Time to get strict...

HairLikeAMadWomansKnitting · 19/06/2013 13:16

Drawers done!

I didn't think I'd find much to donate/chuck away, but I was very wrong.

I've disowned;

  1. Half a packet of football party bags from when DS (17) was 9yrs old.
  2. A load of orange and black plastic knives and forks from the last Halloween party we had about 4 years ago.
  3. A miniature grater (I don't need 2!)
  4. A load of bent corn-on-the-cob prongs.
  5. A 'Birthday Girl' banner.
  6. A honey stirrer that has actually lived in my drawer for the past 10 years and has never been used.
  7. Some broken elastic bands.
  8. Some jam pot covers which have got damp and stuck together so couldn't be used anyway.
  9. A red marker pen which has run out.
  10. A fondue fork from a set I haven't owned for many years.

Couldn't quite bring myself to part with the 'World's Best Mum' oven glove, even though I never use it and it's been in the drawer for years. I'll think about that one.

This is fun!

amazingmumof6 · 19/06/2013 15:23

HairLike

"drowning in rubbish"

that sums it up perfectly.

pfft

badchat · 19/06/2013 23:03

I know exactly that kind of drawer hairlike! In fact I distinctly remember a never-used honey stirrer in one of my previous house's kitchen drawers. Who does use honey stirrers I wonder...

I had a day off yesterday, back on the case with clothes today although only 5 items got rid of. I find it hard when there's something old and worn and crappy BUT fulfils a purpose e.g. my only lightweight cardigan - I don't feel I can remove until I've found something else for that role. Also dresses that I almost never wear but if I do ever have a smart occasion to go to again would be a shame to have to buy new having chucked out something workable.
