I have no idea Badchat...and why do you need to stir honey anyway? I saw a honey stirrer on a shampoo advert last night. I don't know why I needed to share that.

I know what you mean about getting rid of clothing, I'm the same. My desire to be thrifty prevents me from de-cluttering because I hate the thought of having to replace something I might suddenly need. I might get the urge to stir some honey, and then what will I do?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/06/2013 10:38

I decluttered a honey stirrer on my first session!
Know what you mean about the clothes - I try to think, if I saw it in a charity shop, would I buy it? If the answer's no then out it goes. And if you need a light cardi - buy one - the supermarkets have lots of decent-looking ones atm if cost is an issue < veers into Style and Beauty territory >.

Re. 'occasion' wear: I think it's okay to have a small collection of evening wear if you think you're likely to wear it again to the next ball or whatever.

I must admit, I keep a small collection but somehow the things I own are never quite right on the rare 'occasion' we do go to!
I try not to spend much, for this reason - daft to spend £200 on a dress you'll wear once or twice.

I've surprised myself by sorting through all DVDs on a whim!

I threw away some broken boxes, 4 paper sleeves (special edition crap) and gave 3 dvds away to our plumber-ok films, but won't watch them again.

I'm so proud! [proud]
Especially that I ate something dodgy last night and now feeling sick......my stomach is making weird noises..Blush

resting now, just about to watch Invictus.

amazingmumof6 · 20/06/2013 12:11

Day 1-done!

amazingmumof6 · 20/06/2013 12:13

shall we right a poem -nursery rhyme style?
I'll start

Day1 -DVDs are done
Day 2-scrubbing the loo
Day 3 - ?....

amazingmumof6 · 20/06/2013 12:14

write a poem! grrrr

badchat · 20/06/2013 14:33

Ack - if I had to assess my wardrobe on whether I'd buy it in a charity shop I'd hardly have anything left! (I am a terrible shopper...)

A friend has introduced me to a possible solution to the occasion wear thing though - because although I say I'm saving my dresses for an occasion, in reality I know I'll decide they're all awful and dash out to buy something last minute... Wish Want Wear do designer dress hire, which looks like a good - clutter free! - solution, although a bit of a fiddle...

I am going to do my wardrobe shelves today. Lots of odd socks, old jewellery and too small knickers...

gaggiagirl · 20/06/2013 14:43

May I join you? I adore chucking stuff out I just did my kitchen yesterday and chucked about 30 items of varying size I'm off up to do my bedroom now.

DearPrudence · 20/06/2013 16:33

I've been doing this but not posting so far. It's a brilliant system, so thanks for sharing. Going for 10 items a day seems entirely manageable, even when you're really busy.

I've sent about five binbags to recycling/rubbish, and I have a spare bed groaning with stuff for car boot sale or ebay. I reckon I can keep going at least another three weeks.

I heard DH asking DS what I was doing the other day. He called back "she's doing her ten items". Grin

HairLikeAMadWomansKnitting · 22/06/2013 06:34

The more the merrier gaggiagirl!

Well done DearPrudence, sounds like you're doing a grand job. I didn't do any yesterday but promise to catch up after work this afternoon.

amazingmumof6 · 23/06/2013 09:00

I'm just about to print out the list.

I'm starting tomorrow.
wish me good luck!Wink

pumpkinsweetie · 23/06/2013 09:26

Ooh can i join? So truly need to declutter, got sooooo much stuff things litrally fall out my cupboardsConfused

Tried Flylady but their constant 20 emails per day drove me to despair and i gave up at the 1st hurdleConfused

amazingmumof6 · 23/06/2013 09:44

pumpkin me too

I started decluttering by getting rid of those emails! Grin

pumpkinsweetie · 23/06/2013 13:37

Grin amazing, funny thing is they sell themselves as declutterers only to clutter up peeps mailboxes. Sent a stop email & it took ages for them to actually stopConfused

Anyway so far today i have started by emptying my medicine cupboard and threw away numerous out of date meds, and other snizzle. Also threw away my manky bath mat and later i'm tackling my paperwork!-at long last. Next stop Tue, toy clear out & give away mission, and wednesday i plan on cleaning up & selling 2 of my pramsSmile so i'm making a start.

With no car and limited bin space it may take me a while, but hope to get there in the end!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 23/06/2013 16:42

'Ve got a bit behind with the list but glad to see the motivational thread's still going!
I did my medicine cupboard last week as well - took a good couple of hours Blush. I had a whole carrier bag full of ood meds to take to the chemist's, plus I must have binned the same amount of odds and sods.
I can now actually see what's in there, and hopefully won't go buting a whole raft of painkillers/cough meds every time someone needs them.

On a side note, the lady behind the counter at the pharmacy had a face like thunder when I proudly handed her my groaning bag of meda for safe disposal; this has happened to me before but I thought the assistant was prob just miserable. Now I'm wondering whether they dread loons people like us coming in as it gives them a whole load of extra work to do. Hey ho! Grin

Attacking an enormous Ikea wicker basket today. Has been left festering for years as I couldn't face sorting the DCs' work from their old school. I've just binned the lot and have scanned a couple of paintings into my phone. Easy.

DearPrudence · 23/06/2013 17:55

Ooh, medicine cupboard. Not done that yet.

Had a go at bathroom cupboard today - mainly small items, but I still got rid of 20.

Good luck amazingmumof6 Smile

amazingmumof6 · 23/06/2013 20:12

thanks Pru!

MeNeedShoes · 23/06/2013 23:43

Back from holiday and still haven't started. But I will. Tomorrow ten things will be out the door!

amazingmumof6 · 24/06/2013 00:22

shoes you and I baby, you and I! Wink

DearPrudence · 24/06/2013 21:46

Well?

amazingmumof6 · 24/06/2013 22:39

yes boss!

Day 1:
I spent over an hour tidying the cupboard under the sink.
we had a new shelf put in (old one was half rotten from water damage) and tap pipes fixed last week, but had to wait with putting stuff back to make sure there's no more dripping.
seems okay!

I reorganized it as well.
I chucked some things away, but mainly rubbish - does that count?Wink

amazingmumof6 · 30/06/2013 23:57

did you all declutter yourselves?Shock

hope not!

today was Day 2 for me - I cleaned the fridge.

anyone around?

pumpkinsweetie · 01/07/2013 06:27

Well i became rather lazy & need to get motivated again!!
After the meds cupboard, i gave away 5 bags of toys, but since then nothingConfused, need to tackle my bathroom undersink cupboard and then the awesomely clutter understair cupboard which i am putting off until dh helps me, i hate spiders!

badchat · 01/07/2013 20:30

Well we were away for the weekend, but I am just looking at my list and have done 30 out of the 40 days! Haven't done 10 items a day, but got into a lot of areas I probably otherwise wouldn't have and done at least some organising. Just sent off a big packet of kids' clothes to a friend and her new baby today and have lots of sorted piles in the spare room to go to charity shop, fabric recycling etc.

So, getting there!...
