Just started today, but managed 3 drawers of desk - most to recycling, but

WAIT FOR IT .... IN NASTY PURSE FOUND £120!!

No idea where it came from or what it was doing there, but very very glad I checked.

badchat · 06/06/2013 22:25

Woop!!! Amazing toomany Another good reason to declutter, althouh I v much doubt I will find any secret wodges of cash...

Done some of my misc kitchen bits today, and recipe books.

mrspaddy · 06/06/2013 22:55

Ah toomany.. lovely surprise.. I often find a few pound but never that much. Tonight I opened wedding presents and will make use of them.. not keep them for good. I sorted our wedding cards and little relics from the day and have them put away. Mopped all floors and not fit to move now Grin night night zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Toomanyworriedsonhere · 06/06/2013 22:56

It's so satisfying isn't it - even without the cash.

Finding the cash gave me the creeps a bit - like it was something I meant to do and had left undone. It must have been there for a reason...

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 06/06/2013 23:44

Cash - result!
Newbie joiner here - first 30 mins done. I actually mis-read the list and assumed kitchen drawers meant all of them. I only have four, but have been through them all and either binned or bagged for charity 50-odd items!
Ii even cleaned the inside of the cutlery drawer, will clean the tray tommorrow it's disgusting.
Thanks for the prompt op.

spiderbabymum · 07/06/2013 10:57

Grin at the cash result! No such luck here but I'm all done (smug emoticon!). Basically had a mega blitz over 3 days and did every drawer, although as said before, they were pretty organised, but even so, the garage is now full of black rubbish sacks and recycling sacks so we still had a lot of unwanted stuff. Only problem is the spare room is quite simply stacked with stuff to now sort out and take to charity shop/sell etc! But I have shut the door on that room for the moment and will tackle next week! Good luck everyone, it feels really good to get sorted!

Toomanyworriedsonhere · 07/06/2013 14:34

I've been inspired by this thread, but also by 'May the best house win' where nobody seems to have any stuff.
So many of the houses have no clutter at all (but mostly no kids, either..).

Exhausted by yesterday's efforts and the boiler finally giving up the ghost this morning. Oh dear £120 won't replace it!

amazingmumof6 · 07/06/2013 20:51

toomany You found my purse, I've been looking everywhere for it! Grin

Toomanyworriedsonhere · 07/06/2013 21:43

oh, that explains it ......
I wondered where it came from

MrsFrederickWentworth · 07/06/2013 23:12

Does clearing out my handbag count?

amazingmumof6 · 08/06/2013 00:36

MrsFred - yes it counts! have you seen my shoulder bag. that's two days' worth of decluttering straightaway! Grin

and if anyone wants to know it IS ZERO INSERTION FEE weekend on Ebay, I've just checked.

see, I have 80 unsold items, listed previously. all I have to do is re-list them. pain that it must be one by one as otherwise costing money, but it takes less than 30 mins!

not started decluttering yet. not ready to commit yet, but almost there.

amazingmumof6 · 08/06/2013 00:55

I've got to tell you all something really lovely.

I've just got a message from an Ebay buyer about a sleeping bag she bought from me.

she told me that I made her little girl very happy, as this sleeping bag is now replacing the one they left at an airport last weekend.
that one was her daughter's comfort blanket for years now and she was inconsolable after they realized it was lost.

the mum didn't really think it would be possible to replace it, as it was originally sold almost 10 years ago.
yet her little girl snuggled up with it the other night and had the best sleep in a week.Smile

I replied that I was so happy for them. I actually had a hard time getting rid of it, but now that I know it is appreciated so much, I'm so glad I did!

that really made my day! (made me well up a bit too!)

result, result & result!

amazingmumof6 · 08/06/2013 01:42

and hopefully this story will inspire you to get brave and get rid of what you don't need!Smile

morethanpotatoprints · 08/06/2013 12:00

I haven't done much today and yesterday, but managed a drawer in the kitchen and a couple of small bags out of dds room. I am doing some drawers in my room later when dd goes to bed.
I think it is difficult to do 10 things sometimes, other times I can manage 30.
it sounds like everybody is doing well, although I can see me still doing this when the dc are on holiday, we have so much junk.
The ornaments, jugs, pictures and display plates I have found have turned out to be worth about 1k in total. most are dhs family heirlooms so can't sell Sad.

amazingmumof6 · 08/06/2013 12:01

I sorted most of our socks - so many feet in this house! it took me so far about 45 mins, but not done yet.

summer=bare feet= happy me Smile

badchat · 08/06/2013 22:33

Aaah amazing that is lovely. Definitely a good feeling to find a better home for something you're not quite sure about. Well done that buyer for sharing her joy with you too.

Well I did second go on recipes and misc kitchen stuff today - fairly closely sticking to plan but cant remember what day I'm on. Finally decided - 2 years after moving - that I can get rid of folder full of bills from previous house!

Toomanyworriedsonhere · 08/06/2013 22:46

I tried to spend one of the £20 today and they're the old ones and can't be used anymore!! Not sure how old that makes them... you must have left it here a long time ago amazing. Do drop by to collect it Grin

DH went to oxfam with two big bags of stuff - playmobil, bits of clothes, at least 30 items. And the DCs have sorted about 40 soft toys and I'm having a fantastic time washing them - they look fabulous and are going to the teddy tombola at school.

Sadly the place is still a tip, though and the boiler needs replacing, which will create a lot more mess. Oh well, one step forward...

MeNeedShoes · 08/06/2013 22:48

Marking place on hols at the minute.

amazingmumof6 · 09/06/2013 03:01

toomany Grin an ingenious way of decluttering - give your crap to me.
nice try missy, but I don't fall for it!

I do want the purse back though.

you put the £20 in a picture frame.
or - can you take it to the bank by the off chance they might be able to swap it or compensate for it?

badchat I know, so sweet of her to tell me, I was chuffed!

spiderbabymum · 09/06/2013 10:12
