I also managed the cutlery drawer today, along with 2 more drawers and half the medicine and junk cupboard.

I got rid of about 50 smallish things.

I was going brilliantly until I got the call from school to collect a sick DC so progress was halted and doesn't look too brilliant for tomorrow.

MegaClutterSlut · 04/06/2013 15:18

Managed to get rid of another bin bag full of toys today, will try and sort another out for tomorrow. Still loads more that needs doing but really can't be bothered and could do with a kick up the arse some help

ILikeToClean · 04/06/2013 15:45

Been v busy, did DDs rooms yesterday, took an hour each one, so not really doing the 10 minute thing, but cleared a dustbin bag each, a recycling sack each and a bag each for charity! Did kitchen and utility room today, definitely managed more than 10 items, some for charity and some rubbish! Really motivated to carry on now!

No energy for decluttering today.. might tackle one bookcase shelf when it cools down later. Make that will !!!

badchat · 04/06/2013 21:52

Day 4 miscellaneous kitchen cupboards done - I now have a whole empty cupboard in the kitchen! Woop!

I'm finding the whole 30min thing really helpful - in the past have set myself too big or undefined tasks and given up quickly but this is feeling very manageable.

Hope your DC is feeling better NAPL!

OpheliaBumps · 04/06/2013 22:22

No decluttering done here today, Tuesdays are always tough as I work and attend slimming world so it's a busy day.

I did lose 1lb at SW though, so am v chuffed with myself Grin

IWillDoItInAMinute · 04/06/2013 22:35

Cutlery and utensil drawers done

Sympathies NAPL had a sick DC at home yesterday so -couldn't be bothered- had to look and clean up after her.

Don't need to do plate cupboard as
emptying d/w + my weak wrists + hard tiled kitchen floor = not enough plates for a family of 5 Blush

Did manage to clear top of dresser in hall, major dumping area. There was wood under all that rubbish and now it is shiny !!!

NotAnotherPackedLunch · 05/06/2013 18:12

Fingers crossed that DCs will all be back at school tomorrow and I can clamber back on the wagon.

All being well, tomorrow will be the last 2 drawers and the cupboards above the kettle.

We've got loads of room in our bin this fortnight as we were away for half term and I want to get as much stuff as possible into it before the bin men come. Smile

morethanpotatoprints · 05/06/2013 18:53

Just wanted to thank you all for helping me to get back on the declutter project again.
I am easily finding 10 things a day and have done dds wardrobe and drawers. I have also sorted all our paperwork out, which is no easy thing as we have a small business and dd is H.ed so everything has been filed and sorted.
I filled 6 large paper sacks and our blue bin is full, a week early. Grin
I have about 8 carrier bags for charity shop too.

IWillDoItInAMinute · 05/06/2013 20:00

morethan how old is DD? I'm intrigued by home ed. how are you finding it?

2 bin bags of various broken bits gone, wish I had started this weeks - months maybe years- ago Grin

morethanpotatoprints · 05/06/2013 21:01

Our dd is 9 and have been H.ed this academic year. Its everything I thought and more. i don't want to sabotage this wonderful thread but feel free to pm me. Also there is a H.ed section here, just follow more after education, on same list as extra curricular and G&T. Smile

Dysgu · 05/06/2013 21:34

In decluttering the kitchen cupboards I am now wondering where all of our bowls have got to Hmm we seem to have only 2 for a family of 5. The DDs do tend to like using the plastic bowls but still... we must have smashed more than I thought. I have also not thrown away the two pasta bowls we have, even though they are cracked as we only have the two and we use them a lot. SO I need to buy bowls (but that will require a trip to the mainland to go to IKEA so everything matches.

Tomorrow I am going to blitz the living room, if only to get rid of lots of the toys that seem to have made their way into here in the past few weeks.

IWillDoItInAMinute · 05/06/2013 22:20

morethan thanks for the info Smile ,slightly back to thread my DD has just turned 10 and she's hoarding 5 years of -plastic crap- presents in her room.

Any tips on how to -force- encourage her to part with anything???

morethanpotatoprints · 05/06/2013 22:48

IWill

This is a hard one.

What I did was get rid of the bits that were broken, games and puzzles with bits missing and stuff she was too big for.
The good things that are just outgrown you could sell on ebay and let her choose something more grown up. I know its not done in a day then, but long term she may get into the habit of sorting for ebay and more money for herself.
My sister did this with those plastic dogs, Pet something? she got about £200 and they had all been well played with.
Also not in keeping with throwing out but teddies can be stored away in those vac bags.
We have same problem with loads of Sylvanian stuff including gypsy caravan and 2 houses. It cost a flamin fortune and will be sold. Grin

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 05/06/2013 23:03

That link is great. Will make a start tomorrow Smile.
I like the way it focuses purely on the decluttering, unlike Flylady. I find her system very confusing with its 'do a bit of this and a bit of that but at the same time clean your house from top to bottom.'

Desperately need to do Something as I'm starting to feel embarrassed at the state of my house.

amazingmumof6 · 05/06/2013 23:37

shotgun

I felt the same. and all those thank you emails - so weird!
clearly it works for a lot of people and I might go back one day for more hints and tips, but for now this 30/day seems so much more achievable.

(and I don't see how dragging my shoes through house helps with cleaning. just annoying)

badchat · 06/06/2013 10:06

oh yes - I got stuck at the shoes with flylady too! I don't want to wear shoes in the house - they're hot and uncomfortable and likely to traipse dirt around. I did however get slightly obsessive about better at cleaning my sink after reading her stuff.

Have stayed on track with day 5 done yesterday although hard to get rid of much from 'kitchen linens' as I only have a very small box of tea towels and cloths etc.

Will be quite exciting to move out of the kitchen soon!

badchat · 06/06/2013 10:13

oh, just remembered also, quite excited to have found a monthly community table top sale in my area so planning to get a table for that in several weeks and try and get rid of some stuff there. It is expensive - £25! - but I'm hoping that means that people only sell stuff that is going to make a fair amount, so people come willing to spend a bit too. I have some clothes that I don't want to just charity shop but can't be bothered to ebay that might work here e.g. a vintage 1920s jacket I bought on a weirdly out-of-character impulse purchase for £200 that I have NEVER worn... Worst purchase pretty much ever... If I could get £30 or something for it I would be very happy not to have it making me feel guilty every time I open my wardrobe.

Need to find a charity shop that will take the odd bits of kitchenware though - we only have clothes ones round here.

amazingmumof6 · 06/06/2013 10:29

I sell on Ebay, but I only list on "zero insertion fee" weekends.
that means that no matter what the starting price is you only pay when your item is sold!
so you can start yours at £50 or whatever and if it doesn't sell you have no costs!

I think there is one every fortnight, and in theory this weekend should be one!

I list my things for £2.00 min, but made £10 on one dress for example.
done it 4 times now and made almost £90 having sold only 23 items!

or another idea is that if your still like it and can sew you could makeca hand bag or shoulder bag out of it.

HTHSmile

pigsinmud · 06/06/2013 11:22

Can I join in late please? My house is seriously cluttered. Stuff cluttering up the stairs, piles of clothes on the landing. I wasn't keen on flylady...didn't get past cleaning my sink.

I will be dumping, not selling!

badchat · 06/06/2013 12:13

Thanks amazingmumof6 - that definitely sounds like the smart way to do it; but I just think I'm too disorganised to ebay - I really struggle to send family and friends presents on time, and am hopeless at even the smallest of admin tasks (emailing, phoning people etc....), so I imagine I would end up in a right pickle not sending packages out on time, or bothering to check if anyone has bought or whatever.

For me, one day's worth of selling is much more appealing - just trying to find a couple of friends to come in with me to split the cost/time now.

hello to newcomers! I'll post the original link again so we don't have to keep scrolling up for it: www.keeperofthehome.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/8-weeks-to-declutter.pdf

amazingmumof6 · 06/06/2013 14:07

I know what you mean, but my trick is to only list on every other Saturday only!

then whatever's bought and paid for I pack and post on Tuesday or Wednesday in one go. easy
trust me with 6 kids in tow the last thing I want is to visit PO daily

the carboot/stall sale is great fun, but I still think you'll get more for your more valuable items on Ebay.
I hope you get minted either way!Grin
