FLYing through April: Fledglings Spring into Action

GoingGoingGoth · 31/03/2013 17:38

Welcome to the April Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC, Blue & Silvery for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Getting ready for my exciting escape to the London Book Fair. 3 days away! Grin

Meanwhile, have got the spare room habitable and although the bathroom still isn't quite finished it looks pretty good.

[Big waves to everyone and dances out scattering Brew, Wine and Biscuit around the place.]

Had a great flying day yesterday - tidied and cleaned whole house - took the whole morning, but felt so good once it was done (have DH's gran visiting for a week)...but sunday evening and already a bit messy but determined to keep it at least half ok, so going to crack on sorting quick before bed...

still to do
hang washing (just one load Grin )
load in for tomorrow ( just one load Grin )
ironing (only 5 work shirts for DH - unlike the rest of you ladies this is the only ironing I do Blush )
clean kitchen after dinner
room rescue - lounge
menu plan & shopping list

I am so full of cold - may be turning into flu - and have DH's gran (while dh is at work all week) - do not feel like it at all - just want to climb into a hole with chocolate...

GoingGoingGoth · 14/04/2013 22:11

Baker has beaten Mt Washmore and is was planning scaling the ironing moutain of doom. Grin think of the Sound of Music (Climb every mountain)

EllieTTF is already counting down to half term- it's good to have a target.

Nick has roused the troops and in the middle of Operation Bedrooms.
And has potty trained at the same time. Well done Thanks

Engels has her new gate and a tidy garden Grin

Silvery is also doing well with nappies. Thanks for the reminder re brows (not that I should need reminding, developing mono-brow here)
She has completed another Monster List

Mumof3men is having a slow day, that's what Sundays should be about.

Bitchy is having a busy time, but started with a cooked breakfast (yummy)

elliepac completed Week 1 of C25k today.

SC is back! Grin I wouldn't say the round ups are fab, but I am trying. Grin
Also saw Trazzle's thread, it does put everything into perspective.

Blue is off to the London Book Fair. Lucky you! Envy

Louise had a great flying day yesterday, tidied and cleaned whole house
despite being full of cold and looking after DH's gran. Rum & hot milk will do the trick, and if it doesn't, you won't care anyway Grin

Bust day here, went to do the shopping, avoiding all the football fans going to the semi-final at Hampden. Then a trip to the park, while the game was on, and back home at final whistle (the joys of being 10 mim walk from a football ground) and finally a quick baking session whilst preparing Sunday dinner. Plus part of the weekly bleugh! Phew

Nooooo it's back to work today! DD has one more day off so is she stayed with my mum last night.

Ta da:
Wake up

To do:
Go to work and not fall asleep

That's more than enough I think Grin I finally took the plunge and went for a proper run and did w1r1 of the c25k last night, very achy now! Shows how miserably unfit I am! Be back later (hopefully with more impressive lists!) xXx

Engelsemama · 15/04/2013 09:05

Have been following trazzles thread too. Thinking of her and her family.

Good luck on c25k ellie and ellie (and good luck going back to work today!).

Have woken up streaming with cold (actually, I woke up in the middle of the night coughing with a streaming nose) so not feeling up to much (was planning on a day in the garden).

Can anyone explain one of the mysteries of life to me? Why, when he has loads of lovely toys, is it that the only things DS is interested in playing in are the telephone, TV remote, waste paper bin, and a box of tissues? The boy is driving me crazy!

MIL might be coming home today so will be offering to help her a bit round the house with hovering etc.

Ta da
Yesterday?s washing airing
Windows open
Today?s washing on
DS and I up, dressed and fed
Written shopping list
DS bed changed
Pastry out of freezer for pie tonight

ToffeeWhirl · 15/04/2013 10:05

Am having the carpets cleaned today, so it propelled me into action this morning. So far, I have:

Cleared floor in sitting room (amazing amount of food, odd socks, various home ed files and books and bits of Lego under the sofa. Also DS2's lost slippers Blush)
Wiped down dusty surfaces and cobwebs exposed by moving sofa
Done all the washing up and put away
Emptied all the bins
Put the rubbish out
Wiped down kitchen surfaces and cooker top
Swished and swiped in bathroom
Cleared landing upstairs (delegated to DH)
Asked DS1 to clear his bedroom floor
Cleared floor properly afterwards
Made quick b/fasts
Made coffee for carpet man
Nipped over the road to get cash to pay him

Am shocked at how much stuff we still have hidden away in corners and underneath furniture. And I thought we'd done so well at decluttering.

Am now sorting out home ed stuff for tomorrow, typing up new daily routines and waiting for my Ocado order to arrive.

Blue - I used to go to the London Bookfair regularly in my bookselling days. Hope you have a good time.

Like everyone here, I am thinking of Trazzle today. It isn't fair.

CHBitchy · 15/04/2013 18:10

I am about to pour ds into bed. He is suffering from his weekend and the return to school. Early start here tomo so key plan is to make sure everything is ready to go at quick up and out first thing. Planning day tomo, much needed.

bakerofcakes · 15/04/2013 18:41

Hi everyone, it's a lovely sunny day here, just spent an hour decluttering the garden after work. Just cooking tea then off for a long soak in the bath. Will do today's mission while I am upstairs. Today's babystep is already part of my morning routine and I did most of the home bleugh over the weekend. Still got the ironing pile of doom though, will save that for a rainy day Grin.

Castlelough · 15/04/2013 18:53

Happy Monday fledglings!
I had a lovely weekend, celebrated my birthday with a visit from my two sisters, so quite a lot of crisis cleaning flying ensued prior to their arrival.
Pleased with the results and hoping to keep things this way!
Efforts will be slightly thwarted this evening due to a power cut Sad Sad.
Hoping it will come back on soon or we will have to drive into town for dinner.

To Do:
Dishwashing and sink shining
Laundry reboot if electricity returns
School work - marking.
Sweep/vacuum/mop floors
Early night

Castlelough · 15/04/2013 18:54

Ps I am thinking about poor Trazzles - would someone point me in the direction of her thread, as I don't know where it is Blush

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/04/2013 19:07

It's here Castle Trazzles

GoingGoingGoth · 15/04/2013 19:46

Early update tonight, because I'm knackered. A good roll all today.

Back to work day for a lot of us including EllieTTF

Engels has a bad cough and cold, and wonders why small children always prefers boxes etc. to their actual toys.

Jdub is having a fresh start on a Monday.

Toffee is having her carpets cleaned today which inspired her to clean the whole house by the sound of it.

Ellesabe is back on the wagon

Bitchy has a worn out DS.so is going to 'be prepared' for tomorrow

baker is enjoying the weather, and is using it as an excuse to avoid the ironing (you know you're going to regret that, don't you?)

Castle has a great birthday weekend after last minute crisis cleaning. Long may the tidiness last.

WhoKnows is also about

I've just put a worn out (and grumpy) DD to bed. Hope tomorrow goes easier because my parents are coming to stay!!!!! Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/04/2013 19:49
  • sorry to have been AWOL, school holidays plus three lots of overnight guests in a fortnight has meant chaos on the Flying front (although not CHAOS as we have had to keep it superficially under control for the visitors).

Anyway, DCs are back at school, jury service is finished and all the guests are home, so some semblance of normality is resuming - got to get the DCs to bed now but will pop back for a catch up later.

NickNacks · 15/04/2013 19:49

New baby in the family! So happy- he's in special as expected but doing much better and weighing loads more than predicted. :)

NickNacks · 15/04/2013 19:50

*special care

GoingGoingGoth · 15/04/2013 19:53

LINKS FOR TUESDAY 16TH APRIL

Babystep 16 is about the Flylady emails. Don't sign up, you'll be inundated! For someone who doesn't like clutter, she does her best to fill your inbox Grin

Daily focus for Tuesday is planning.

Today's Mission is to shine bathroom countertops & sinks, PLUS 5 minute throwing away in office (or another room)

Flight plan for our routines, should update automatically

Phew, hopefully an early night for me now.

OP posts:
GoingGoingGoth · 15/04/2013 19:56

NickNacks great news re baby.

WhoKnows will let you off disappearing (this time Grin) Doesn't MNing classify as a reason to get out of jury duty? It should!

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 15/04/2013 20:21

Goth - oh, I wish I had cleaned our whole house! The rooms where the carpets were cleaned look very tidy, but our bedroom is, as usual, the place where I've had to dump everything Sad. I could spend all day tomorrow sorting it out, but have home ed to start on, so no chance. Will have to tiptoe round the mess for a few more days.

Have managed to keep up with my new routines today anyway. Made sure my new routine has times on it, to keep me on track.

Nicknacks - good news on the baby Smile

Ellie - well done on coping with first day back at work.

WhoKnows - sounds like an exhausting holiday!

Bitchy - hope your planning day works out. I had one of those today and it has made me feel much more in control and less stressy.

Waves to everyone else. Must finish getting DS2 into bed and do evening routine. Am planning on bed at a decent time tonight.

NickNacks · 15/04/2013 20:25

toffee I think you are amazing home eding! I truly don't know how you do it! :)

I'm still working :( A mum has got caught up at work and her poor little boy is still here. Have had to send mine to bed and he's just cuddled up on the sofa with me- bored out of his mind I should think but I've been working for 12 hours now and I just can't entertain any more :(
