FLYing through April: Fledglings Spring into Action

Welcome to the April Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC, Blue & Silvery for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Evening all,

Congratulations on the new King Engels, I was thinking of you wehn I heard about it on the news.

Silvery - I long ago gave up reading Bitchy's lists. I just acknowledge their presence!

Lplate - glad your WM is restored to working order.

Ta-da!

Morning routine
School run
Check school garden - will need watering tomorrow
Gossip with friend
Home
Breakfast
Washing on line
Work
Shopping at lunchtime
Home
School run
Phonics work with DD (her reading as a whole is great but her phonics is poor and teacher wants us to work on it)
Supervise DD washing up
DD changed for ballet, she went with a friend which gave me a free hour to get on with stuff at home, normally Tuesdays are a real rush
Made dinner
Cleared up
Lounge detailed cleaning - cobwebs, high shelves dusted, fingerprints wiped from doorframe and lightswitch
Watered all my pots in the garden
Sent DS off to Cubs
Sorted out huge pile of clean washing
Baked cakes with DD
Popped round to a friends with a bottle of wine as thanks for something
Fetched 4 Cubs home (they all live nearby but it takes 20 mins to deposit them all at their own homes and stop them rioting in the street
Reading with the DCs
Washing in WM ready to go on line in the morming
Just got a couple of Brownie / Cub badges to sew on and that's me for the day.

I have been sticking somewhat half-heartedly to MFP for weight loss and hit a plateau (which has lasted about 2 months Blush). So I have decided to 5:2 it, today was the first of the 2 fasting days, set myself a limit of 600 calories and so nearly made it, DD baking cakes was very hard though, I did eat a bit of buttercream. Going to see if I can do it again on Thursday (my other work day, no chance on home days). Roll on breakfast tomorrow!

FINAL ROUNDUP Grin

WhoKnows has an app! Envy I know what you mean re MFP, I'm a bit stuck too (cake doesn't help) Please let us know how you get on with the 5:2.

Blue finished her project ahead of the deadline, and managed to update her blog. Need more details on blog

Bitchy has temperamental central heating and is back on form with lists! I'm concerned that you say you lack motivation - just what could you manage!
AND eat the chocolate

Doris somedays getting dressed can be an enormous success, you count it if you want to, we don't judge. Toddler gymnastics sounds fun.

Engels is flag-waving. The Dutch system does seem sensible, I think hanging around your whole life waiting for a parent to die is a bit meh

LPlate has a working washing machine (eventually), good luck with Mt Washmore.

Silvery had a massive list, the cd task sounded Herculean

Louise popped in, slow Flying is good, hope you have a good weekend away.

Castle attended a family mass which excuses her from Flying.
Thanks for the Wine am heading for the naughty corner before Silvery & Bitchy drink it all!
