FLYing through April: Fledglings Spring into Action

GoingGoingGoth · 31/03/2013 17:38

Welcome to the April Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC, Blue & Silvery for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Ik'm going to spend some more time setting up the zones in the home routines app in a minute. Monday is my quietest day, so that is going to be kitchen and bathroom, Tuesday is very busy so that will be lounge I think.

Anyway, ta-da!

Morning routine
School run
Home and washing on line
Walk to pilates class and back (50 min round walk)
More washing on
Email, admin, MN etc
Lunch
One lot washing in, another onto the line
Big pile of tidying
Into town, haircut and errands
School run x 2 (DS at a club) plus drop a binbag of handmedowns to a friend
Sweep and mop kitchen and bathroom floors
Normal weekly clean of bathroom
Detailed clean of bathroom - shelves, vanity doors, mirrors, windowsill etc
Detailed clean of kitchen - wipe marks off DW and round its door seals, clean outside of bin
Dinner
DD washed up
DCs decided to bake, so baking.
DCs to bed

DD was sent to bed in disgrace, she is Miss Militant at the moment and won't do anything she is asked, just pushes back with what she is going to do (the opposite of what I want). She will be getting up early to do reading and homework. Having a few problems with her and her best friend too, they are gradually spending more and more time together and it is getting too much IMO, DS is feeling sidelined and I think the friendship is too exclusive. Tricky to back out a bit without causing offence though.

DS has just gone to bed. He's an Aston Villa supporter and it has been a long hard season but he is very happy tonight as they won 6-1.

Quick waves to all. Work sent off ahead of the deadline, and got another big project in for Thurs!

Up far too late because I wanted to finish a blog post before I drowned in work again. No flying today, but still productive and DS1 had a friend round which was nice.

Must go to bed.

Was just being grumpy and refusing to admit that it might actually be May already Shock whoknows

Early night stuffed up due to weird broken central heating that decided randomly to cook everyone. Early start to tomo so it is a bit of a pita.

Ooh it is very late.....am I always the last to post? Blush Will have to improve on that for May Blush....

A great day today - had tons of energy after my early morning exercise which involved more walking than running, in the end.

Ta Da:
*Work
*Coached the school camogie team after school.
*Grocery emergency dash
*Unplanned nap (for almost three hrs Shock)
*Supper, dishwashing, kitchen rescued, laundry re-booted and away [happy], clothes laid out for tomorrow [happy], an hour of gardening [happy], popped in to see dMil and dSil....and finally bed!

Have taken a day off work tomorrow; am going to go to my Aunt's Month's Mind mass, which is at the very odd time of 11:00 on a Tuesday morning. Hoping to squeeze in my morning exercise first and then make the 2.5 hr drive there. Will be nice to catch up with my cousins and some family members [happy].
And then I will be back to take up the reins from Goth Grin.
Thanks Thanks for this month Goth.

Quick list as it's a manic day today.

Can I count up and dressed as a success? It may be my only success today!

So,

  • WAH stuff out of the way.
  • Finish tidying house for guests coming later. Actually, it needs a full scale tidy, but I'l going to have to resort to the time honoured method of shoving it all in my bedroom.
  • Mop kitchen floor - DH dropped coffee over it.
  • Out to drop DS at a friends while I pop to have a scan.
  • Toddler gymnastics for DS (and me)
  • Friend round after gymnastics

Then die in the corner.

Blue do you have a blog? I'm always looking for new blogs to follow...

Up and out
1 load washing
move mountain of towels upstairs
take bed apart and put stuff way in storage inside it
change bedding
internet stuff
put ds' spare duvet away
sort through old training stuff.
find important contact info
double check all timings for this week
physio exercises

Lacking motivation today. Planning day so I could say I am doing that and not bother but really I need to pretend it is anti procrastination day as there is a whole heap of important stuff that needs doing.

More coffee is the answer, right?

Hi all.

Silvery - I think they go through those phases every now and then. I know mine, who are 3 and 6, are at that stage at the moment and it is driving me around the bend at times!

Washing machine still out of action - and have 2 lots of bedding plus 1 duvet to wash Sad, so DH has volunteered to do a Laundromat run tonight. Hopefully he's home in time to do it.

Will have to hand wash a few things to keep on top of it though - which is going to be a real PITA.

Spent a few hours blitzing the kitchen this morning which is looking a LOT better. Have decluttered the plastics box as I could never find sandwich containers and drink bottles etc when I needed them. I find I have to do this every few months as it really gets out of control.

A busy week at work for the rest of the week, not quite sure how I'm going to cope with that!

Roll on May......
