FLYing through April: Fledglings Spring into Action

GoingGoingGoth · 31/03/2013 17:38

Welcome to the April Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC, Blue & Silvery for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

We are throwing a lot out as well as donating and recycling. I've plenty of resources for CMing so don't need to keep their stuff as well. It's more about giving them some personal space plus they don't even have space for a desk. We also have lots of stuff so decluttering is feeling great!

We're hopefully, aside from the beds and a few toy boxes, not going to need to move much other furniture. It's all the crap that needs new homes and physically transporting it to the opposite room. In strangely excited but DH couldn't think of anything worse!

NickNacks · 13/04/2013 17:58

I will paint but maybe another time. I don't think I have enough time next weekend but ill def let them choose their own deviation. At the moment it's blue so nothing offensive or flowery for them to moan about.

CHBitchy · 13/04/2013 18:11

Sounds like you are top of things NickNacks

SilveryMoon · 13/04/2013 18:41

I have done absolutely fuck all today. Nothing. I've not put anything away, nothing.
Ds1 is staying at a friends tonight so only have ds2.
About to put him in pj's, read stories and put him to bed so I can pass out watch tv on the sofa.
It feels really odd to have not done anything and I am trying not to panic about it. I have no intention of doing anything now, but have an itch that is telling me I can't leave the place like this.

Tomorrow's list:
Up and strip beds
Get breakfast
Shower and dress
Swish and swipe
Clear breakfast
Rubbish out
Collect ds1 from friends
Clean litter trays
Laundry
Meet friend's for pub lunch (Carvery in Windsor)
Homework
Clean glass shelves/frames/mirrors etc
polish and dust
hoover
mop
re-dress beds
wipe fridge
polish shoes
make next weeks sandwiches
clear car
clear bag and purse
hoover cat beds
cook dinner
feed cats
clean kitchen
wash washing machine drawer
sort dry washing
non iron away
play/tidy
stray items away
bath boys
ironing
sort uniform and bags for monday
lay out clothes
bleach plugs
shine sink

Is that it? Bloody hope so!

NickNacks · 13/04/2013 18:47

Silvery where do you live? Pm me if you like.

SilveryMoon · 13/04/2013 18:50

Why, are you trying to recruit me to come round and move furniture? Wink Grin

Mumof3men · 13/04/2013 19:00

Think I achieved all the jobs, dinner cooked and eaten, dh dispatched to shop as he failed to bring home wine.
Going to let him catch up with fb then settle down to Vampire Diaries. I rather lust after like the gorgeous Damon plotlines ;-)

NickNacks · 13/04/2013 19:26

Ha ha! Yes now I'll know where to find an extra pair of hands. ;)

SilveryMoon · 13/04/2013 19:30

Well, I might be able to help a bit, I work during the week but am free most weekends

NickNacks · 13/04/2013 19:45

Thank you, I would take you up on it if I weren't so ashamed of my shit tip house ha ha

SilveryMoon · 13/04/2013 19:46

Let's see if this works.
How I'm thinking of decorating my living room here

SilveryMoon · 13/04/2013 19:46

No, that didn't work. Just brings you to the main screen. Nevermind. Maybe I'll put a photo on profile when I've done it.

GoingGoingGoth · 13/04/2013 22:17

mrs had an early start/late night/deficit of sleep due to DD deciding to feed every 2 hours Thanks hope you took it easy today

Engels is hopefully also taking it easy after a bad start. Her MIL is improving, but sounds like she had a close call.

Mum3m has given her bathroom a good clean, but had a mahoosive pile of ironing (ouch)
chips for dh and salad for me

Silvery had a lovely evening out but returned to whining children (I'm sure they save it up for you to get home) She claims to have done FA today, good for you, you've had some very impressive lists this week, and continues again tomorrow!

EllieTTF was underdressed when her DBIL visited (we've all done something similar, I had to quickly grab a dressing gown the 1st time the landlord's handyman popped round, I honestly thought it was DH at the door! Blush)
Also wants profiteroles

elliepac has done some Flying but decided to lounge for the rest of the day. Good idea

Bitchy found a model of DNA

NickNacks is switching bedrooms, and requires advice. My first idea was also to use bookcases as dividers.

I took Dd to see Wreck it Ralph today, not too bad, and then we went on a magical mystery tour on the local bus service. Done about an hour of cleaning, finishing this week's missions & starting the weekly bleugh, and finished off with an hour of ironing while watching David Attenborough on BBC4.

BlueEyeshadow · 13/04/2013 22:21

Evening all!

My ta da! today has mainly been keeping the boys out of the way or holding things while DH has been manfully putting up shelves, cupboards, towel rails etc in the bathroom. Looking really good now, but a lot to do to make the spare room habitable again by next week.

NickNacks I seem to recall madwoman using Ikea units as room dividers.

Morning all, nothing much to report here, I managed most of last weeks missions and am half way through my home bleugh. Got through Mount Washmore, but now have the ironing mountain of doom. Have got quite a bit of garden tidying done this week, but the weather not too good here at the moment, wet and windy. Off to church this morning, and will decide when I get back whether to continue with the home bleugh or do the ironing - such decisions Hmm

SilveryMoon · 14/04/2013 09:21

Morning.
If I stand any chance of getting that list done, I'd better get a move on.
have a good day all.
BBL

CHBitchy · 14/04/2013 11:32

When blue said it, I also could recall madwoman doing this. It was her basement and it did seem to work.

superfluouscurves · 14/04/2013 15:18

Hellooo!! Helloo!! Hope everyone OK

Crikey, thought I'd popped in regularly enough to keep up with thread but loads of chat on here during last few days.

No time to catch up with thread properly but huge wing flaps to all. Will have a look at Goth's fab round-ups tonight/tomorrow

bitchy hope you are OK

Just got back and there's lots of "get ready for school now" bickering going on plus shoe polishing, washing and general heaving of suitcases about ... . Dh in foul mood. Had joyful reunion with the furries though Smile

Spent half the day in the garden because it is actually sunny here Shock

House had undergone hasty blitz for guests before we left but has slipped a bit since as dh has been surviving on his own in between being with us and friend who looks after rabbits isn't the most proactive/tidiest. So lots to do!! Hoping I'll re-find my mo-jo tomorrow! More visitors in three weeks so hope so.

Have just popped in to Trazzles thread and it's on my mind ...makes everything else seem pretty irrelevant really
