FLYing through March: Fledglings Assemble

SilveryMoon · 28/02/2013 20:10

Welcome to the March Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC and Blue for leading us through January and February and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted .

Let's get the old dust balls rolling for March!

MrsB - my car insurance from last year was in my filing pile. The renewal came yesterday. Blush from me too. When my DCs were babies we had one desktop computer and probably no broadband, all I had to keep me company was Teletext. Youngest is 7, things have come such a long way technology wise.

DidEinsteinsMum · 11/03/2013 00:43

Urgh. life is mad. Tired, grumpy, too much to do. Can't see the wood for the trees. need to sort out a plan but not sure where to start as there is so much to do that it is impossible to find the start of the great big knotty ball of string.

"Sports addicts make bad patients" they also make bad flyers

To do:
school run
finish sorting post ready for posting
laundry
sort out training stuff
sort out stuff for scanning

err to much to even list the whole lot. need to take this into serious flylady breaking down. The fat fairy has branched out into every single aspect of life - money, health etc etc etc. think i might think about this fly style and take some time to plan. Tuesday might be fly lady planning day but i think that there is going to be a switch about and a sort out for the long term planning.

DidEinsteinsMum · 11/03/2013 01:06

been working my way through that old thread and so far i have encountered myself in at least 5 different names!!! bloody hell i have been behaving recently Shock

DidEinsteinsMum · 11/03/2013 01:53

Also it has been around 4 years since i have a proper sleep pattern. And that only lasted 6mths and prior to that there was a whole heap of really bad night's sleep. No wonder i am doing so badly!!!!

SC and pmpy various pms are floating about.

SilveryMoon · 11/03/2013 06:16

Morning. I'm awake half an hour earlier than I need to be Sad
At least there's no school for be today

Oh god no there was at least 2 different nc/day on that there. i had five different names which is kinda different. hence why that particular thread is err, fine example of how not to lead a thread? HmmGrin

no sleep at all. pass the coffee?

pushmepullyou · 11/03/2013 07:19

Morning silvery, ellie, issima and DEM (if that is indeed your name Wink )

Back on the fly wagon for me too today ellie. I do find it very hard during the week.

To do
Dye hair
Change beds
Fold and put away clothes
Room rescue living room
Online shopping

I expect I will need to add some more things to the list later, but that'll do for now!

Jamillalliamilli · 11/03/2013 09:19

Looks suspiciously at name changers, but reckons all will become clear in the end.

Just turned up to waylay SCfor the hell of it, and say Blue sorry Sunday wasn?t much fun.

Much madness here but still hacking away at it, I have just over two weeks to create miracles and am trying to believe I can do it regardless of how impossible it seems right now.

I know there?s other stuff that I can?t think of right now but:
Still to do
Put parking permit on vehicle
Shopping
Prep psychology
Photographing /filling Insurance unit
p/up ds
Oversee psychology
Oversee maths
Catch up home ed file
washing
Ironing
dinner
Listen to friend
sleep

LillethTheCat · 11/03/2013 09:38

Just checking in as I dont want to fall off completely. Ive not done much, but yesterday I did clean the bathroom floor. The problem is once you start doing something you notice other dirty bits and it carries on and you can never get it perfect so I said to myself "perfection is the enemy of acheivement" Left the room came back in and saw how much better it looked. So Im pleased with myself. Grin

Im still washing up after every meal and shining my sink and Im still loading the washing machine on a night and doing a load every day. The beds are still being made on a morning, but that's it. I started off with good intentions too. It should be easy to set aside 15 mins a day to do some proper cleaning or to do each mission (Im not a big fan of most of the baby steps), but I just never do and I can't tell you why.

Hope you are all well.

Engelsemama · 11/03/2013 10:06

Checking in to give myself a kick up the arse.

Am ill again with a stinking cold, so have spent yet more of my time on the sofa surrounded by tissues while the house disentegrates around me. Starting to feel a bit more normal today, just in time to go back to work tomorrow Angry

2nd load of washing lined up and ready to go
Changed batteries in DS's toy god help me

what's for dinner - chicken and pastry out of freezer for another hairy bikers special

To do
Get out of the bloody house - walking up to playground
dump unwated boots in clothing bank on way
polish shoes/boots
give ds a bath
hoover up and down
change beds
sort out old paper for pick up tomorrow
pop to supermarket for bits that I forgot on Friday

also confused by all new people/'old' people/nc's Blush

Let me introduce myself - I'm engels, stranded over in the Netherlands with DS (17mo) and Dutch DH who is lovely but depressive and therefore not always the most helpful when it comes to Flying. I work 3 days (teacher) so also trying to juggle school work with flying and I must say am not doing very well right now! I've been flying since May 2012...coming up to a year Shock How did that happen and why doesn't my house look any different

Enelya · 11/03/2013 14:12

Hi ladies, can I hijack your thread to ask a few qs about the FLY system and your DHs?

When you post your lists, are they your lists or are they family lists? If the lists are for you, what does your DH do? I'm keen to find a system to help me keep on top of things when I go back to work in the summer, but DH can be a bit of a sod at delegating responsibility to me and I fear that he may use it as an excuse to do less " in case he interferes with my system".

Any words of wisdom?

superfluouscurves · 11/03/2013 17:05

Hellooooo!!

Thanks for way-laying me Just! Grin

Happy to take a break from things right now. Really tried to make in-roads in to the horrendous state of this house today and although I have got back on top of the laundry - there is loads more tidying/decluttering to do before I can admit visitors- and everything seems to be taking ages and ages!! And it's freezing again with snow on the ground ...

DD has also just come back from school really upset with a note from the teacher who has asked her to explain to us why she lied about her French hwk to him and another teacher. Really silly reason for getting in trouble - she forgot to write down her hwk in her hwk agenda when it was given out - intending to write it down in the next lesson. But she forgot. Then, because she knew I had to sign her hwk agenda at the w/e, she did three French exercises that weren't the set ones so that I would think that she had done the correct hwk - except she failed to explain this to the teacher or me! I'm cross that she lied to me too - but I'm more bewildered by nine-year-old logic - all leading to a load of upset and unecessary wailing! Bad enough trying to get her to ballet on a Monday night ...arggghhhh

Sorry for "me" "me" post. Again, not much time for many personals as have to get the supper on.

Also confess that I am very confused by namechangers/newcomers etc etc!! Not sure who I am addressing!!

Hope you feel better soon Engels

Enelya could you make your lists/routines obvious to your dh by leaving them out in conspicuous place? Then perhaps one day "casually" ask him to finish one or two items on it? My dh responds quite well to lists ..; and no excuse for shirking if written down in black and white! Good luck!

Sorry - haven't caught up with everyone else yet - must get back on here tomorrow and read through the whole thread from when I left.

Huge waves to everyone though!

superfluouscurves · 11/03/2013 17:07

Lawd, just had a quick peep at that old thread and realised that I was struggling in exactly the same way with the state of this house two years ago

Blush Blush Blush

MercuryRising · 11/03/2013 18:50

Hello fellow fledglings!

Sorry for going awol. I worked Thurs and Fri night so slept a lot of Fri and Sat and then had a very relaxed/lazy Mothers Day. Today I took my DDad to London to visit family so I have only been doing very minimal flying but I am going to catch up with the thread this evening and then get back on track.

Hope you all had lovely Mothers Days Smile

ellesabe · 11/03/2013 19:17

Hi all! Quite a productive day here!

Tada

Dh was supposed to be going out tonight but we're snowed in so I don't know if I'll manage everything on my list with him hanging around.
My incentive for finishing my list was last nights Call the Midwife which I certainly won't be watching now Angry

SilveryMoon · 11/03/2013 19:20

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 11/03/2013 19:55

Right. Going to start where the last round-up left off Smile
WhoKnows had a productive day yesterday (well done)
snow Is joining those of us who want to make a better effort at FLYing this week
ellie also struggles with the living room not having it?s own zone, and has been telling us about her childhood caravan holidays in Filey.
at DEM poking her tongue out
mrsb Managed to finish the filing. Great!
DEM May be in danger of over thinking her FLYing habits Wink me too Dem, me too.
issimma has a poorly toddler and baby, hop they?re ok and today hasn?t been completely awful Wine Ah, just seen you were handing out the Wine at half 11 this morning Shock piss head??.wish I?d been here needed one by then
pmpy what colour did you dye your hair? Is it a regular thing? Looking good? (Need to do mine, I don?t want to look silvery and now I?m on the wwrong side of 30, there are a good few coming through Sad)
Just has 2 weeks to perform miracles in her place. We all have faith, you can do it one step at a time Wink
Lilleth is still here (Good good) and finding out all about perfection being the work of the devil! I completely agree that it is really hard to get 15 mins a day to do missions/detail. Don?t knock yourself, you have your basic routines that you are sticking too, massive achievement. If I may say, I do think you a crazy lady Wink for washing up after every meal. Sod that. I wash up once in the evening. Al bits that get used during the day, get dumped in a plastic storage box in the cupboard under the sink so no one sees it and I do it all in the evening whilst cooking dinner. It is a bit embarrassing to have to explain this system to friends when the ds?s go to theirs for dinner and put their plates in the cleaning cupboard after dinner Blush Grin
Engels is here, has a cold and has been feeling rough, but sod?s law, is feeling a bit better just in time for work tomorrow. I know that one, if it wasn?t for bad luck, I?d certainly have no luck at all Wink
Hope you?re ok.
Louise Hope your dc?s are ok and feeling better.
Enelya Came in to ask some questions about the system, our lists, and the dreaded dh/p issue. Right, for me, my lists are things that need to be done. Years ago, when I first joined (4 years ago now) it was just my list because my dp was a useless fuckwit, but as I have continued to have this system, he has become more responsive to it. He has now started ticking off on my paper lists what he has done so I no longer have to walk around the flat to check.
My dp always used to say he didn?t do anything because he didn?t know what to do. I forget how many times I have literally screamed ?There are lists!!!!? I think you need to take the approach that this system is for you and not expect anyne else to join you (just yet). As time goes on, you will be able to gently encourage your dh to do a little more. That?s my opinion anyway, I?m sure there are loads of different ways etc. I wouldn?t put too much presssure on, but my dp does need clear, precise instruction.
sc well done on getting to the bottom of mount wash more! Reading your bit about dd, I was thinking, oh she?s secondary age, but 9?! Wowzers, at least she did something, her teacher sounds a bit tough. Hope she?s ok.
Hi mercury Glad to hear you?ve been having a noce few days in RL.

to anyone I?ve missed. Grin

Unexpected day at home due to DD having D&V. Poor thing was sick in her bed last night and didn't even cry, just went back to sleep Sad. Got lots of extra loads of washing done, through necessity - lots of sicky sheets and pjs. Couldn't even get some FLYing done as DD was very clingy and just wanted lots of cuddles. Not sure I can face going to wipe the base of the toilets.
