FLYing through March: Fledglings Assemble

SilveryMoon · 28/02/2013 20:10

Welcome to the March Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC and Blue for leading us through January and February and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted .

Let's get the old dust balls rolling for March!

Blardy hell. Go away for 2 days and somebody let did take controlGrin. Come back silveryGrin. And i also miss the return of nettie. Marvellous to see you my lovely. Now are you really back or is this one of those times where you pop in and then give up againWinkGrin.

No flying this weekend. Just returned from caravan and DH is cooking dinner. pmpy yes the caravan is at FileySmile. At one of the larger parks there. We spend half our weekends thereSmile.

Am going to try and get cracking again this week so will be back tomorrow.

ToffeeWhirl · 10/03/2013 17:43

Blue - sorry your Mothering Sunday isn't very happy. Glad you had a roast dinner cooked for you though Smile.

I insisted we all go out for lunch together today: DH has a cold and felt ill; DS1 felt anxious and sick and asked to go home every five minutes; and DS2 sulked because he didn't want to come. Neither of the boys ate. DH didn't enjoy his meal. I drank Prosecco and had a lovely roast chicken with Yorkshires and roast potatoes. Was determined to have a good time! I knew it wasn't going to be easy, but I really wanted to have just one time eating out with my family. And it was good practice for DS1 to sit in a restaurant (one of his sources of anxiety).

Have mostly had a lazy day, but am now cooking dinner and doing the ironing, so back to normal again.

SilveryMoon · 10/03/2013 19:58

Good Evening. Happy Mother?s Day
Apologies for my lack of thread running this weekend.
DEM Thank you for taking over yesterday and posting links and round-up. Much appreciated. Have a Wine
MrsB Hope you?ve had a better day today and can get some decent sleep tonight
ellesabe Decided no FLYing allowed in her house today what with it being Mother?s Day and all Smile
pmpy had no choice but to FLY and list-dump after her ds?s party. Hope he had a good time.
WhoKnows Had a nice start to the day with a hand made card delivered to her bed by ds, but had to get up and make her pwn tea.
sc flew by to wish everyone a happy mother?s day.
Blue Sorry to hear you?re not having a good day.
ellie is back from her caravan break and will be on tomorrow.
Sounds like we?ve all had a break and plan to get back to it tomorrow
Toffee Went out for lunch with her family. Wasn?t easy due to illness and anxiety but the Whirl?s had lunch (some of them) - Good for you toffee.

So, I?m well. Had a nice weekend. Had my first ever drive on a motorway yesterday which went fine, but took a few wrong turnings on my journey from Middlesex to London, but got there and back safely.
Had a busy afternoon but did all my FLYing jobs I normally do on a weekend. Have even done some ironing!
Back in a mo with links for tomorrow

elliepac · 10/03/2013 21:07

GrinGrinGrin. Never fails to amuse me Grin.

DidEinsteinsMum · 10/03/2013 21:08

Can you believe that it is over 2 years ago now?!? Shock

elliepac · 10/03/2013 21:15

I know! Just had a quick scroll through. pmpy's birthday boy not even arrived yet! Some things are exactly the same thoughGrin.

pushmepullyou · 10/03/2013 21:16

God, is it really Shock. I used to get very confused by the namechanging, now if there is someone I don't recognise and everything seems a bit strange I just assume it's you Grin

I expect we have a fleet of newer fledglings who are now going through that process for the first time Grin

pushmepullyou · 10/03/2013 21:19

See I always assumed that you DancingIceDragons, what with the dragons and the ice and all, but based on that thread obviously not Confused

pushmepullyou · 10/03/2013 21:20

In my defence i was quite pregnant and easily confused at the time!

Cuddledup · 10/03/2013 21:34

Belated Happy Mothers Day to one and all.
DH cooked lovely big lunch and left me with lovely big pile of washing up! (Thank heavens for dishwasher).
Today I have scaled the heights of Mt Washmore and have finally got to the bottom of my ironing pile - HORRAH!! (Mind you I haven't put it away yet!)I've I've decluttered a massive pile of old clothes etc.

BUT my other big achievement is after months of procrastination I've finally started my control journal. Aside from including all the blah about zones and routines I've added in a section called ME time.

It's all very well having morning and evening routines and zones but what about ME? So now I've decided to do a different "ME time" activity each week. Eg: week 1 - 15 mins of sewing / crafting each day, week 2 - 15 mins of researching family history. Etc.... Anyway this is the theory it'll be interesting to see if it works.

pushmepullyou · 10/03/2013 21:34

I actually came on to report on my quite inefficient day of flying and have got all distracted!

Short version is I have done most things but not very well, and still haven't changed the beds.

Sorry to hear you've had a bit of a rubbish day blue. My trick this year has been to set my expectations firmly low, so the highlight of the day was taking DD to Sainsbury's to choose me some flowers. They are birght orange gerbenas with pink roses. I am considering indoor sunglasses Grin.

Then we went to both sets of parents, DD ate too much chocolate, got hiccups and was sick on MILs white carpet. I cleaned it up

Everyone is nicely in bed now though and I have wine, so all's well that ends well.

thanks for the links Silvery. I have adapted this week too as I don't have a laundry room. I tend to add in the ensuite and a bit of extra living room time. Does anyone else find it really annoying that the living room (the messiest most heavily used room in our house) onlu gets a couple of days at the month end? I rely on the weekends to do most of my decluttering and detail cleaning and the living room often doesn't have its own weekend.

Glad you managed a meal out Toffee, though it sounds like it wasn't an entirely relaxing experience. Well done to DS1 though for managing it. I am joining you on the Prosecco this evening Grin

I love Filey ellie. Do you get fish and chips from Inghams? They are fab

pushmepullyou · 10/03/2013 21:36

Just read the old thread a bit more thoroughly. I need either more or less Wine

SilveryMoon · 10/03/2013 21:41

As thread leader this month can I say no name changing? I am easily confused Wink
Just got into bed and remembered I have not shined my sink. Ggrrrr.
It will be the first thing I do in the morning.
So, list dump
Up and make beds
Shine sink
Get breakfast
Swish and swipe
Shower and dress
Feed cats
Clear breakfast
Rubbish out
School run
Go to training course
15 min detail
Cook dinner
Clan kitchen
Homework
Boys Bath
Laundry
Lay out clothes
Shine sink
Ironing
Stray items away
Bed early.

That'll do

SilveryMoon · 10/03/2013 21:47

cuddle your me time schedule sounds perfect. Might have to take that on board myself although not sure there is a spare 15 mins a day Sad
pmpy agree re living room time. There is loads I need to do in there. For a while the living room was exclusively my room rescue place but I knocked that on the head because struggled with that 5 mins but might get back to it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/03/2013 21:48

Quite a productive day here, I took DD to ballet this morning and both DCs to their swimming lessons this afternoon. Did another pile of filing later, one more pile to go. Also refilled the airing cupboard so it is much tidier than before, did battle with homework and spellings and supervised DC's chores.

DH changed all the beds and washed all the sheets, did a bit of food shopping and cooked dinner, so we're all even.

PMPY - I also find it annoying that the lounge is a bit of an afterthought, it deserves a zone of it's own.

Blue - sorry to hear about irritable start to the day, dinner sounded good.

Toffee - well done on lunch, our lunches out tend to be a bit tense but we feel it is important to keep trying.

MrsBugsy - were you really posting at 4am, hoping you are either in a different time zone or that you got some rest today.

Snowgirl1 · 10/03/2013 21:56

Evening all, hope everyone had a nice mother's day (sorry to hear yours was a bit rubbish blue). I'm hoping to have a better week of FLYing next week - fingers crossed.

elliepac · 10/03/2013 21:58

pmpy dancing ice dragons was demGrin. I reckon all this skating lark is bollocks and instead she practices some kind of dark art style mind fuckwittery on the rest of usWinkGrin.

I love Filey too. Like the quainter, quieter version of Scarborough. We used to stay there as a child as grandma owned a holiday flat on seafront and all the family including both sets of grandparents would descend. Happy timesSmile. Hopefully now, by virtue of my mum investing in a, rather posh, caravan we are now also creating the same happy memories for our dc's.

I too struggle with the living room. I actually hesitate to call it a living room. It is a play room/art studio/cinema/games arcade. It is only my sanctuary at the end of the day when dc's are in bed.

DidEinsteinsMum · 10/03/2013 22:07

Shhhh ellie Wink

pushmepullyou · 10/03/2013 22:13

and the thing is you can see me go through exactly the same process the first time on the earlier thread

mrsbugsywugsy · 10/03/2013 22:22

whoknows I have a two month old and am often on mn in the middle of the night when I'm bfing.

today was our housework catch up day so did all the usual jobs. I also finally defeated the pile of filing, there was stuff from last summer at the bottom.Blush

Also i put a few things on eBay, my plan is to declutter and supplement my maternity pay at the same time.
