February Fledglings FLYing High

Welcome to the February Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC for leading us through January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted Grin.

So come along in and park your dusters ready for Feb!

Oi cubby you need to not put the asterix in around here. Swearing happens and we don't take offence. and if you take offence at swearing you are going to hate my posts!
Also the ultimate list makers are the slatterns. They specialise in lists!

Otoh here we like the little and often approach and seem to delight in doing the same thing every day or not which is why i live in the naughty corner

Morning ladies. Not sure how I will renew my spirit today - perhaps some washing up, some washing, change DS bed (again - he's a snotface atm), some decluttering.

Or perhaps I should take the other route - a walk in the park, another long pampering shower to "declutter" all the toiletries an cosmetics I ahve and an evening in front of trash tv with a mirror, curlers, youtube tutorials on how to make my hair look fabulous.

Option a, or option b? Or perhaps both?

Stuffed myself silly with sushi last night. Didn't get home till 1am, DH was snoring away. Made a change from my usual Saturday nights (in bed by 10 Blush ).

Blue glad to hear your party went well and that everybody had fun, even though it wasn't as planned.
Chubbie Welcome and as Bitchy says you can say piss on here. you can even say other words too such as fuck and the C word. also like Bitchy says if you dont like swearing then mumsnet may be a bit of an eye opener for you

I can say the c-word? Well, thank Fuck for that!
Party went well, the place was trashed! All cleaned up now though, apart from a couple of toys that got broken and that the curtain rail in the boys room was pulled down, bringing the plank of wood that it's nailed into with it.
Oh well, no one was hurt so could have been worse.
Ds1 is driving me fucking bat-shit crazy. I am in danger of really losing the plot with him. All I;'ve done all weekend is shout at him Sad
I need to find a better parenting approach.I don't normally shout, dp is the shouter, whinger and whiner here. It really pisses me off when he tries to tell the boys off, he talks to them sometimes with such little respect it makes me want to punch him. He wonders where they get their nasty whiny attitude from. I have started screaming "YOU! you cunt"

Ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The washing machine broke this morning. Have ordered a new one from littlewoods, but can't have it delivered til Saturday, so having to go a whole week without washing any clothes.

Up and strip beds done
Get breakfast and clear away done
Shower and dress done
Swish and swipe done
Rubbish out done x2
Fresh sheets on beds done
Hotspot/stray item dash done
Party food prepared done
Party bags prepped done
Clear up after party done
usual routines stuff done
polish school shoes done
ironing planning to do
make packed lunch for tomorrow done
make sandwiches for the week done
Bed

I've actually mid-post just had the above rant to dp. I told him that I am cracking and that I think it;s because I feel too pressured to be nice and calm with the ds's all the time because they need to know that one of us at all times will listen to them and help them and that I feel that they just piss him off, that he talks to them with so much disregard that it makes me want to harm him and he needs to stop his whiny tone of voice.
He told me they come crying to me all the time because I undermine him. I told himn that, yes I do, because he is unreasonable.
I think I need some more booze!

SC large Wine- you've done amazing well today. Can't offer any advice re shouting, as am trying to deal with that personally. We have similar discussions arguments in this house too, re tone used. We seem to alternate between being the shorty one. I hate it.

A week without the washer! I'd be stressed too. Is there anyone near you who would let you wash at theirs? Even a couple of loads would ease the pressure a bit.

Thanks Goth
We should be ok, think we've got enough stuff to not need to do the washing for a week, as long as I am careful at work and get 2 days out of some trousers.
Although, I may have to pop to tesco for some socks!
The good thing about no washing for a week, is no ironing for a week! This is looking good Grin Wink

Silvery sounds like you've had an eventful day and no washing machine for a week Shock Our laundry gets overloaded after 2 days, dont know how Id cope for a week. Good luck with it.

So Ive just been looking at the flylady website and seen tomorrow's mission. Since ours is currently empty (DH has just taken the rubbish out) Ive decided to make a start. I have poured in some bleach and currently am waiting for the kettle to boil for the third time to pour that in to leave it overnight. So I am actually going to do a mission Shock I never do missions. Now can I do the whole week? Not sure, but we shall see.

Im bound to have crossed some posts here. Will post again in a bit.

Good for you and the mission Lilleth
Handy we're in the kitchen this week, will need to unplug and move the washing machine to clean behind there before I let them take it out.
It will be hard, and the back up of laundry will be immense (I normally do 2/3 loads a day), but think we have enough clothes to get through. Well, I haven't so trousers 2 days in a row, but I can handle a quick dash to the high street mid-week if I run out Wink

Hello lovelies

I had a back to front Flying w/e. Having renewed my spirit with ballet & rugby yesterday, today we had family fun: singing games, cooking together, 3 x Frustration, sewing, and "Devine, qui vient manger chez nous aujourd?hui?" which was the same garden bird observation exercise some of you were doing last weekend (had great success too: blue tits, merle et merlette (Eng ?), wood pigeons, robin, and a jay)

Flying ta da:
30 mins laundry room reorganisation/decluttering
ballet laundry
school uniform laundry
shoe polishing
ironing
cool whites wash
bed-making
sink shining and pretty serious kitchen polish
(have already done kitchen bin part of tomorrow's mission but need to do three recycling bins too)
pancake and steak pie-making
second kitchen polish
(and miracle of miracles dd did 20 mins tidying up in play room without being asked Shock)

Dh returned from airport early on following horrendous weekend of travel with job (eventually) done, in a foul mood (looking grey with fatigue) and on principle refused to give in to sleep (he always does this so his body clock adjusts quickly) which meant he had to drink coffee and walk the streets, grey with fatigue, 20 mins every hour for four hours this afternoon. Heigh ho...

DD has a rather startling case of slapped cheek (something I had never heard of before I joined Mumsnet) and with her plaits looks like a Russian doll with two large round bright red circles on either side of her nose.

A very welcome to Chubby you have come to the right place - we are all wierdly obsessed by microfibre cloths enthusiastic Flyers but give the more barftastic bits of Flylady website a wide berth.

Glad the parties went well Blue and Silvery!!

Fossil dig sounds amazing Blue

Silvery sorry you have had such a stressful day - can't advise about shouting though because I'm the shouty one in our family and dh is calm and patient to an annoying degree. Sorry about wm too.

Weekend sounds fab Nick!

Good luck tomorrow Lilleth!

Hope car repairs not too expensive Bitchy Hope you both have a lovely day.

Engels I certainly hope you opted for option B!!

Crikey hope visiting your mum's grave and visiting her house for the last time today was conforting and not too Sad for you x Lovely thing to inherit bulbs though!! Smile Hope you had a lovely evening with your ds too.

Evening all.

Boys were at a birthday party this lunchtime, to which DH took them, so I renewed my spirit by doing some exercise, cooking and blogging. :)

Also done:
2 loads of washing
Been to B&Q to look at bathroom tiles etc
Found homes for some of DS1?s new presents
Roast dinner
Washing up
Caught up with Borgen - :( that it?s the end of the series already!

What?s everyone else been up to?

Bitchy - hope the car is sorted out.

Hi chubby!

Silvery - glad you survived the party and sorry about the washing machine problems. No advice re shouting really. DH and I are both terrible shouters, I?m reading every anger management/parenting book under the sun at the moment and get the theory. Totally suck at putting it into practice though.

Engelse - hope your spirit was satisfactorily renewed, whichever method you chose?

Lilith - Grin at getting ahead with the mission.

NickNacks - glad you had a good weekend.

SC - sounds like you?ve had a good weekend too. Yeah, fossil dig was pretty good, though there was sand everywhere and several of the children (mostly girls) decided just to play in the sand for the rest of the party!

Waves to snowgirl, Toffee - sorry to start a message yesterday and get distracted before finishing it! - Going and any lurkers/people I?ve missed.

As Lilith says, we?re moving into the kitchen zone tomorrow.

Babystep 4 ? a lot of us are rather Hmm about sticking post-it notes everywhere, but writing things down somewhere does seem to help.

Monday is officially Weekly Home Blessing Hour day but a lot of us find the term ?house bleugh? less emetic.

And the mission is to clean out the kitchen bins.
***
Have a good week, everyone! Night.
