February Fledglings FLYing High

Welcome to the February Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC for leading us through January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted Grin.

So come along in and park your dusters ready for Feb!

OMG. I've just been on a cobweb clearing mission round the living room. There were lots. I am thoroughly ashamed. How do they manage to escape notice? Once you start looking for them they're everywhere!

Lovely post Ellie congratulations to your sister, it must be so lovely to see.

Oh Ellie Smile Smile Smile that is such amazing and brilliant news!! Many congratulations to your sister, her oh, and all the family and to you on your new Aunt-hooded-fabulousness!! Thanks Thanks Thanks Great to know there are such selfless people in the world!! [Oh and bottle a whiff of new-born for me please Smile]

Blue good luck with the party - hope your ds and all the family have a lovely day!!

A very happy birthday to your ds Bitchy!! I'm sure the cake will work out brilliantly in the end.

Silvery hope you all have a fab family reunion and good luck with keeping it a surprise until then!!

Cuddledup arf at your thread!! Re: dh's travel misfortunes: I must admit the word 'schadenfreude' did cross my mind Wink [horrible cackling wife emoticon]

Well done on the driving front MrsPennyapple!

Hope you and dd enjoy the science centre Goth!

Enjoy your sushi night Engels

Waves to Trazzles Lileth Whoknows Toffee Poiea Nicknacks Honu Just madwoman Pushme Feetheart Castle Snowgirl and everyone else....!

And thanks for kind words about finger everyone. Think there must be something in the water here, because between last night's post and this one, I have also managed to cut my upper lip and impale my toe on a huge splinter (no carpets just very old wooden floors here). So as well as typing oddly, I am now speaking and walking oddly too Grin!!! Oh and thanks for 'liquid' anaesthetic Toffee but I am having a dry February sadly!!

But enough of niggling ailments -[drum roll] the sun is shining today!!! Yippeee!! The rabbits are gambolling on the lawn and I can see a few snowdrops starting to emerge. So far I have done laundry, hobbled chased after dd with a large net and managed to corall her in to the bath: then subjected her to full grooming session; mane plaited, hooves trimmed etc. Followed by fabulous walk in the sunshine - then home made veg soup - and I have just been very self-indulgent and renewed my spirit by watching a wonderful Roland Petit ballet , L'Arlesienne (never, ever watch day-time tv normally - honest!!) here while dd played with her Playmobil house. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but the bit at the end where the shirtless Jeremie Belingard shows off his six pack cracks up - pirouettes amazingly/madly around the stage and jumps out of the window is definitely worth a look Grin

Have a great Saturday everyone!!

[Leaves out restorative post-party crate of alcohol in naughty corner for Blue]

DS1 has decided that he prefers cold chicken nuggets, but the other things that need cooking will definitely be better hot. So doing both. Ho hum.

Mostly ready to go now, just praying we survive the excitement!

Dear lord, day 2 and it's four pages already!

So thanks to Blue for this month, Thanks and to SC Thanks for last month.

I did loads yesterday, full of enthusiasm, but am annoyingly flat on my back today as a result. So today's all been things I can do from here and apologies to all but need to keep at it. So just a quick one to Toffee; exam arrangement info's on your thread.

Evening all.

Glad the party went well Blue.

Today's been busy (as usual).
Took dh to the train station this morning for 8.30 to get the train to Fort William for his winter mountaineering course (he gets to have a full week away, during term time, climbing up mountains - he does deserve it though).
Ds and I had breakfast in town before ds went to his drama club and I l

Came home and parcelled up some teapots ive sold on eBay.
Put washing in dryer and another load in washer.
Picked ds up and took him for a much needed haircut.
Came home and potted up the spring bulbs into the stone trough I've inherited (I inherited the bulbs too and they have been growing in a bucket for the last 4 weeks waiting for me to "get round to it".
Mucked out hens and GP's.
Ds helped me make dinner - I made chips, he cooked fillet steak! Yummy :)
Washed up. More washing.
Swept floor in kitchen.
I've also decided that the nasty grouting in the kitchen is my new "work in progress" and every time I'm in there, I shall scrub 1 tile. It will be done in no time :)

Tomorrow's jobs:

Out to dinner with ds tomorrow night.

Evening all!

Silvery - hope your surprise family visit went well.

Ellie - still grinning at your lovely news, and glad routines are working well for you at the moment.

Bitchy - ah, well, Happy Birthday to him for Monday then! Hope the preparations go well.

Lilleth - good going with the lists.

Toffee

Going - Science Museum party sounds fab. Higher level version of what we were aiming for?

MrsP - cobwebs are the worst. Don?t be ashamed though, just consider it organic pest control? Wink

SC - yikes at all your injuries! Hope the day improved. Ballet sounds good. [swigs gratefully from restorative crate] ? thanks for the Wine

Castle - Envy of springlike weather. Snowed again today here. Fortunately didn?t come to anything though.

Just sorry to hear you?ve been laid up again. Hope things are better now.

crikey - work in progress approach sounds good.

No mission tomorrow ? Sunday is ?renew your spirit day?.

Babystep 3 is entirely skippable ? all about exploring the Fat Fairy?s website. But mainly keep on with what you?re doing!

Off to resume battle with the camera, trying to get photos onto computer, which suddenly won?t recognise it. Grr?

I had the joys of getting into car (already running late) to discover that I had a flat tyre. And on the way home it would seem that the car has developed rather an alarming shake. So hoping that the lovely mechanic who is a saint and works sunday mornings as standard can work a miracle on it. :(

Hope it's nothing too serious or too expensive with the car bitchy.

I got a text from my dad saying well done for keeping the visit a secret. We're going to drive over after school Monday for an hour to see them. Can't wait to see my nephew.

Right, must go back to sleep. Night.

Blue I have an feeling Dd is going to ask for her party to be there this year, I was hoping to rip off do something similar to you. Your ideas sounded great. Although they've just been doing the Solar System this term, so that make be a nice theme, got to October to think of something.

Report
BitchyDragons · 03/02/2013 00:18

you could do a hunt the alien theme goth. cornflour slime, coke and menthos rockets etc etc. especially if you have access to an old speaker/way of viewing youtube short clips. So much potential...

Me to silvery, me to. I am hoping it is just a bolt that needs tightening. However, it does have potential to be a lot more.
