February Fledglings FLYing High

Welcome to the February Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC for leading us through January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted Grin.

So come along in and park your dusters ready for Feb!

Good luck with the party preparations, Blue. Sounds like a great theme.

MrsPennyApple - I saw on the previous thread that you had a reassuring scan and also passed your driving test. Congratulations on both!

This house has descended into chaos again Sad. I took my eye off the washing for a few days and now it's piled high on the ironing board and spilling onto chairs Blush. Hotspots are raging in several places. So, today I am going to stop faffing and tackle it, even if I have to do it in 15-minute slots.

To do :

Home education with DS1
Crisis clean

Am planning to give DS1 some chores to help me as part of his 'life skills' lessons Wink.

Morning / afternoon all depending on which part of the globe that you're reading this in.

Many Thanks to SC for getting us through January. Blue here's a little something to help you get us through the month Wine

I'm v pleased to hear that Feb is the new January as DD said yesterday that she's finally thought of her New Year's Resolution and it will be "to conquer her fears". Thats sounds a bit heavy but she wants to stop being scared of the dark. On the back of that I've finally decided my NYR is to "go out more" - the question is what to do? Choir ? Evening classes ? All suggestions welcome! (The trouble is after a day at work I really like being at home!)

Ta da
Washing on X2
DD to school
Visited a newbie Flyer and loaded up my car with her clutter and took it to dump. Newbie Flyer is inspiring she's already got her control journal sussed - something I still haven't done after a year of Flying.

To do
Monthly shift at Foodbank
Beds
Mt Washmore
General tidy up / decilitre
School run
Take DD to swimming club
Supper
Bed time routine

More later.....

Oops, just found new thread! Missed the link on the last one. This one is already getting long! I'll have a read back in a minute. (Hadn't actually realised it was February today!)

Just wanted to ask if anyone else is suddenly being bombarded with flylady emails? Nine yesterday and four or five so far this morning. This is despite my setting it to NO EMAILS, and not having received any before yesterday, apart from the welcome ones.

MrsP - yes, the Fat Fairy has changed her mailer system. There's a little unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click on that and they'll all go away again. :)

MrsPennyapple re: e-mails - that is why we warn eveyrone about entering "The Big Tent" because one gets indundated unfortunately.

I'm afraid I've just noticed a mistake in the op (totally my fault because I wrote it originally!). "To avoid being indundated with details" should read "to avoid being indundated with e-mails" (I'd obviously had too many Wine when I wrote it!)

Have you tried this re: how to unsubscribe?

Evening everyone

tada

  • Turn Washing Machine on
  • Dry Laundry
  • Shopping
  • Make beds
  • Put Laundry away
  • Wash up 2X
  • Shine Sink
  • Tidy up front room after DCs in bed
  • ring woman back re volunteering (very nervous though, but it will count towards my qualification)
  • 5 min Cupboard room rescue

to do
  • get out clothes for tomorrow

So I rang up about volunteering and I have to go for a chat on Monday. She said on the phone it was just a chat to tell me about them and for me to have a look round. Also to discuss what positions they need. Im a bit nervous. The big question is what do I wear? I was thinking something that Id wear for work, but not so formal like a suit. What do you think? Its not an interview, but I should probably treat it as such. WWYD?

Engels - good news about your sister. Hope you have a good pamper session.

tomorrow's list
  • Make beds
  • Turn Washing Machine on
  • Dry Laundry
  • Put Laundry away
  • Wash up 2X
  • Shine Sink
  • Tidy up front room after DCs in bed
  • go to Parkrun
  • Jigsaw with DD1
  • help DS with homework
  • Check homework for DD1

Hope you all have a good Friday evening.

More congrats here Mrs M!

Lilleth, I'd wear smartish casual. Something you'd wear for a shopping trip with a friend kind of thing - hope it works out for you.

So today I've
Up, showered, dressed
Ds up, washed, dressed
Chickens and guneas fed, watered and set free (chickens not guineas).
Washed up breakfast things
Off to school amd work.
Decent day at work
Finished at 4.45 and met dh in the pub for a sneaky glass of white.
Collected ds from his friend's house (where he goes after chess club on a Friday)
Made a lovely veg curry for tea.
Put away shopping delivery
Washed up and shined sink
One load of washing in
Kitchen floor swept
Having a glass of red now whilst updating this and pretending to be interested in whatever it is ds is playing with.

Happy weekend all.

I'm afraid my early start petered out horribly... started decluttering and a rather heavy object managed to dislodge itself from a shelf, fly through the air, and land on the nail bed of my middle finger ...cue much leaping about and effing and blinding ... cue three hrs whimpering and avoiding going to A&E ... cue eventually going to A&E to have pressure relieved (eerrgghh) ...cue Flying day pretty much ruined ... but still managed to flip Chandeleur crepes with one hand!!

So, instead of trying to catch up tomorrow, I am going to try and do the sensible thing and move on and start again 'where we are at' etc. Fortunately had shined sink, fed and cleaned out rabbits, prepped supper and pancake batter and tidied up a bit prior to injury. Didn't do any decluttering though and it's the first day of the month which is a bit dispiriting [SC sticks out bottom lip and stamps foot]

So glad your sister is ok Engels and out of hospital and is going to rest up a bit. It is awful when one is far away and this sort of thing happens. Good for you re: flowers and pampering!

Cuddledup ooooh - I've never met a rl Flyer before!!! Were they wearing lace-up shoes?? Wink

Your 'dodgy stuffed with everything cupboard' sounds all too familiar Jdub Smile

Wow at no hot spots in current zone Nicknacks??? And Shock at cutting own hair too!!

See you have had a very "domestic Goddessy" day *bitchy!!

Blue impressed by your organised party prep!

Hope the crisis clean and laundry taming went ok Toffee

Waves to Honu Poiea Goth Lilleth and everyone else

PS don't want to out us, but dh has also had problems today. Flew to an Asian business destination 6, 410 km away for the weekend (which was a bad enough strategy in itself) - owing to fog, plane couldn't land on arrival - circled for 3 hrs - so plane landed in different major city 1400 km away where he has been holed up in hotel for 10 hours without luggage or passport....
