HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 01/10/2012 09:38

I thought it was time for a new Autumnal thread for all slatterns.

This thread is welcome to all who like to write lists or have loads of jobs to get done or if you need a kick up the bum for motivation. Also good for support with relationships, random advice on moths and birthday cakes!

We welcome new slatterns, post your lists here.

Back in a sec with my list.

Ironing pile of doom dented a little bit by DH. I had some unexpected outside commitments so didn't get to tackle much indoors.

I will check in tomorrow with a proper list.

Leafmould · 06/01/2013 22:39

Hello everyone! May I join in your thread?
I am a chaos merchant.

I am hopeless at finishing things off that I start, and I find fly lady requires more self discipline than I have.

I am hoping that in 2013 I will do some mega decluttering, and set myself up in a sufficiently organised way to help me to feel better about my house, and encourage me to follow a routine / be a bit more disciplined.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Minimammoth · 07/01/2013 08:37

Hiya Leafmould. I think we are all fly lady scaredy cats on here.
Top tip -only make a little list then you feel as if you've accomplished something.decs down but bare tree still standing in sitting roomBlush

FreakoidOrganisoid · 07/01/2013 09:31

My decs came down early Sad
a) as I did it while the dc weren't here
b) because I needed to rearrange stuff and couldn't do it with the tree still up.

Inservice day for me and dcs
Load of washing
Make sure pe kit is ironed and put into bags
Wait for parcel
Take ds to get hair cut
Take dc to buy daps (why did I only remember today that ds needs them this term??)
Make sure school bags are together
Get my work bag together
Make sure school shoes are polished
Get uniform out and make sure it is still vaguely ironed looking after 2 weeks in the drawer
Look online for new loo seat
Be mean to fatcat when she is begging for more food

FreakoidOrganisoid · 07/01/2013 09:38

Hi leafmould
My tips are also:
Keep the jobs small eg don't put clean kitchen but put clean worksurfaces, clean sink, wipe out microwave etc as you then feel like you have achieved more when you tick each thing off

Don't get distracted by other jobs when you're in the middle of doing something. Finish that job first then do the other.(unless its something that has to be done eg mop up a spill in cupboard so you can finish putting groceries away)

cikecaka · 07/01/2013 09:57

Morning ladies, school going dc are all back today, have to reapply for DD1s homeschooling this term!

Welcome Leafmould. I love the penultimate paragraph of your post, that is how I want to feel - better/more organised.

Freakoid - dare I ask what 'daps' are? (have I missed out on some unknown school requirement)

Hi Leafmould :)

I think daps are another word for either trainers or plimsolls?

CC - is there a chance they won't renew it? or is it just an automatic thing?

Had a great time at the soft play, DS2 did really well. Lost DD temporarily though which freaked me out. She was fine after come choc buttons though :)

JKSLtd · 07/01/2013 18:05

Well hopefully CC it will be approved as it sounds like it's working really well.

Freak - doesn't sound like you bought anything ridiculous though. I spent silly amount on a huge bag of choc buttons at the soft play as I stupidly thought they would sell small size snacks for the kids Hmm
Will have to remember to take my own in the future. Was 2.99 for the enormous bag I didn't even want Angry The only small thing I saw was Oreo biscuits which the DC haven't had before so I wasn't sure they'd even eat.

Leafmould · 07/01/2013 21:18

I feel a bit of a fraud with this list, as I have already done most of the things on it..... Is that cheating?

Put away dp tools from replacing the exhaust.
Rubbish/ recycling out
Change dd2 bedding
Tidy the shoe cupboard
Put away yesterday's washing
Wash dp filthy coat from exhaust job.
get ready for dd gym tomorrow
Help dd's do homework
Hoover dd bedroom.
Put away fruit & veg shopping
Dd dinner
Wash up dd dinner
Take Xmas cards down Blush (everything else's all done)

Thanks everyone for the welcome, and for the tips, freakoid, and yea, I am defnately a fly lady scaredycat, mini mammoth!

cikecaka · 08/01/2013 11:57

Morning ladies, on phone again, so handy but can't see as much!
Was downtown this morning so am a little behind

Make Lunch
Empty Dishwasher
Tidy Kitchen
Washing

JKSLtd · 08/01/2013 12:44

Leaf - no such thing as cheating here! My silly habit is to add something I've just done to my list then cross it off straight away, to justify the time spent not doing the things already on the list Grin

I've written down a list of things to do as they've occurred to me this morning and it's pretty daunting...

Diary actions (from diary session with DH)
put world map back up (fallen down)
put DS1's poster back up (also fallen down)
online food shop
cash in Tesco vouchers (what for?)
list of Days Out for family this year (Resolution)
bag up any toys that can go for Portage workers
email friend for her not-so-new add (& long over due new baby card!)
tackle paperwork pile; Started
reply to Tumble Tots email (maybe go next week for trial)
mater reading & email
figleaves return
local Thomas tickets for June
text friends re meet up
Xmas thank yous
print off Asda voucher
DC Xmas diaries x 3
respond to a few Xmas cards (x 4)
sort change over from old handbag to new

all usual day to day stuff
Asthma nurse for DS2 (4.10)

  • Spring Sort Out list

  • old Ongoing list

Hmm
SlatternismyMiddlename · 08/01/2013 13:03

JKS - your list tired me out and I was only reading it! I am very impressed that you can get that lot done in one day. Caffeine? Redbull? No children under your feet?

Leafmould - I to have been known to add things to the list that have already been done. A senior army officer told me once that the last thing he does before he leaves work is a list for the next day with at least two items that he had already done, therefore when he came in the next day he could mark them off and feel that he had achieved something which made him feel positive for the rest of the day.

I also attended a seminar once that advised that you should never put more than 5 things on a list as apparently our subconsciuos cannot cope with more. The theory is (I think) if there are 5 things on the list our subconscious is processing items while you are doing other things, but if you have more than 5 your subconscious cannot process that many and so doesn't do any at all. Therefor a list of no more than 5 things is supposed to be more productive.

I have never managed this Smile

JKSLtd · 08/01/2013 13:12

Slattern - LOL, I'm not aiming to get it all done today, but it all needs doing at some point.

Have done 2!:

FreakoidOrganisoid · 08/01/2013 13:12
