Who wants to join me for a school holiday fly thread?

carrotsandcelery · 08/07/2012 08:52

I am hoping to develop a new routine for the school holidays which gets me through the basics, encourages the dcs to do a bit, and leaves me plenty time to mumsnet play with the dcs.

Anyone who would like to join me please sign in below.

Ideas how to achieve this are also gratefully appreciated.

I CBA either. We are having pizza for tea (dh's contribution to the meal plan Hmm) so all I have to do is open it and stick in on a pizza tray. I still CBA.

carrotsandcelery · 09/07/2012 20:56

Ok, pulled myself together.

Ta Das:
Cooked the pizza
loaded the dw and put it on
Ds and I decluttered the kitchen table
Got ds to pick up his lego etc from the floor
kibbled the dogs
gave the gerbils the pizza box which they have more or less demolished
tidied up beading stuff which was beginning to spread (felt if ds has to tidy his toys then I have to tidy mine)
snuggled with ds before his bedtime Grin

I didn't do a lot today, fed dogs, WM on and emptied, DDs emptied DW under duress, went out shopping and had lunch with OH who had a few hours to kill unexpectedly. Then we actually did the shopping and a couple of other errands, back home, DDs played with puppies, I did dinner, OH fed all dogs and corralled puppies for the night, I put DW on and made tea.

We're having a day at home tomorrow and I'll try to arrange activities with freind's for later in the week.

Feeling really tired and not inclined do do anything, but there's laundry to be done and DDs to be entertained and fed, so I'll soldier one.

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 10:07

A slow start here. I think i am beginning to relax more as although i woke early i dozed on until dh left for work. Yay!
Ds is not cooperating on the flying front today so i unloaded the dw alone. It is the only job he can skip though. I am not sure he can help much there anyway as he cant reach to put most things away.
I am lounging in a bubble bath but just remembered a friend is borrowing pup today for a huge walk so i should get dressed.

i have decided todays the day to reclaim this hovel

i am planning to start with the front room as sitting in such a tip is depressing

if i get a kick from seeing that tidy i shall scrub the kitchen

i may request a few pointy, super sharpened sticks so start whittling them ladies!Grin

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 11:29

My pointy stick is gleaming in the light and the tip looks very, very pointy zoo

OP posts:
liveinazoo · 10/07/2012 12:34

fingers crossed your outing runs smoothly carrotsSmile

i have filled 3 carrier bags with paper recycling

1 with plastics

1 carrier bag rubbish

i have most of a floor!Grin

there are are still hotspots but its better than it was and has taken 2hours!Shock

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 18:54

Thanks zoo.

We drove to the toy shop and there was nothing that really got ds's attention (unless he had £50 plus to spend) so we went to the pet shop instead. Once there I remembered my cousin is on holiday. D'oh! We had a nose round the pets and then headed home, after a Subway for lunch.

Ds is now at my dparents until 5pm tomorrow and dh is working late so I am all on my lonesome. Sad

Ta Das:
Dw emptied and gradually being reloaded
worktops clean
dogs fed morning and night
rabbits cleaned out (yeuch!) and fed
gerbils played with

Not a lot really but ds and I had a nice potter around. Grin

OP posts:
liveinazoo · 10/07/2012 19:34

i have dealt 3 hotspots in front room

i have also made a batch banana breakfast bars-i did with lashings seeds and nuts and just hint dry fruit as ds picky bout chewy stuff and whilst they are for them all its aimed at him as a treat as he feels a bit miserable he has go school and stay all day and no one else is at the moment

i wiped the floor too

tomorrow id like finish front room and then attack the kitchen.i find wiping surfaces/splash backs is quite quick and effect is very obvious.shiny sinks and gleaming surfaces give a kitchen an inviting feelSmile

i shall trundle off for the night now.enjoy the peace carrotsSmile

AdoraBell · 11/07/2012 02:21

Amazingly, considering I woke up with the same CBA attitude I went to bed with, I got 5 loads of laundry done today, DW has done it's magic and I made a crumble. Everyone's been fed 3 times, curled up with DDs to watch a DVD. Somehow the fridge got de-manky'd and the dustbin found it's way to the right place for emptying. DDs have gone to bed fully hydrated, fed and happy. Dogs are still marauding in the garden.

carrotsandcelery · 11/07/2012 09:14

Well done zoo and Adora.

Dh was moaning about the clothes airers last night. I do see his point but he didn't come up with a solution either. It is pouring so I can't put them outside. The only other place they could go is in the "good" lounge (where nobody but the dog goes). I might do that and see if that annoys him more, or less. Hmm

I have a child free day today. It is very weird. So far I have had a Brew and run a bubble bath Grin

I will do some flying though... honest Wink

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 11/07/2012 10:51

Ta Das:
washed and dressed
dw loaded
worktops cleaned
wm loaded
non iron items removed from pulley (it was so full things weren't drying)
ironing started - I have done a lot and there is a lot to do

I decided it was time for some breakfast.

OP posts:
liveinazoo · 11/07/2012 11:37

i AM aiming to do my kitchen today

CatsInChaos · 11/07/2012 12:41

Can anyone suggest jobs for me to do with one arm?
See steppers chat thread for details!

I am right handed but it's my right wrist that is "on strike" Grin

I am struggling to control the mouse with my left hand and my computer chair has no wheels. --rocks back and forth--

CatsInChaos · 11/07/2012 13:14

decides to supervise DD as she plays on computer.

I may return later --or not--

carrotsandcelery · 12/07/2012 20:48

Where is everyone today?

Ta Das (eventually):

dw loaded and put on
worktops tidied (not yet cleaned though)
ironing put away - took forever
ironing board decluttered
iron and board etc put away
kitchen table decluttered
foot stool decluttered
sofa in kitchen decluttered
hanging rail put away
empty airer put away
dogs fed
floor partially swept
£3 worth of tiny seed beads picked up off floor after "mishap"

Place needs a good hoover but ds is in bed so I will leave it til morning Grin

It feels a lot better to sit in here now.

AdoraBell · 12/07/2012 22:47

Tried to post earlier but the power went as I was pressing post message.

So, not much done at all today. Was going to flop in front of a DVD with DDs, instead we played Mononoply for a couple of gruelling hours. They are currently playing with a friend, I made them tidy their space first and they will be responsible for after play clean-up.

Laundry has been sorted, DW re-started now that power is back on, puppies fed-big dogs gave me a meaningful look but will have to wait. All I need to do now is dinner. Copius amounts of coffee have been consumed to no avail. Tomorrow is a new day, see if I can achieve anything thenGrin

liveinazoo · 13/07/2012 06:19

yesterdays ta dahs

hotspot front rooom
rigged up dodgy washing line zigzag the gardenShock
washed 4 loads
escaped from a very grumpy dd2 for 15minute intervals and mucked out the shed
arranged nice man to come and collect all the junk

dd2 is not an easy patient and is driving me to the edgeSad

dp is meant to be here today and i am hoping that will ease her demandingness for me a bit
also he has a love of ironing so i have a cunningplan as it is meant ot be appalingly wet here and he hates being stuck in bored that he can tackle the 4 loads washing

will pop back later if a get a chance

lucytails · 13/07/2012 08:43

Hi all, i really should get back into the routine of this housework list thread. It definitely helps being able to tick things off during the day and seeing other people doing more than me so it helps motivate me ha.

to das so far:

  • everyone up washed and breakast'd

to do:

  • do school run
  • tidy kitchen and do dishes
  • mop utility room floor. someone went outside last night and walked around with their muddy boots!
  • do some washing
  • go on ebay to try and win something i've been watching
  • the main bathroom and the downstairs loo need their weekly deep cleans
  • cook tea for tonight
  • wipe down kitchen after tea

Ok i WILL be back to tick these off as i go along, ciao.

carrotsandcelery · 13/07/2012 10:54

Ta Das:
washed and dressed
dw unloaded and reloaded
wm on
worktops cleaned
hoovered most of downstairs
guilt tripping continuing - how do I get rid of it?

OP posts:
lucytails · 13/07/2012 14:01

ta das continued

  • done the school run
  • tidied kitchen and done dishes
  • emptied kitchen bin
  • sorted some recyling out
  • mopped utility room floor
  • wiped over and put domestos round downstairs loo, wiped over basin, cleaned window and mirror
  • cleaned bath and shower screen in main bathroom, cleaned window and mirror, wiped over basin, wiped over loo, put domestos under round loo
  • put some washing out. Got a bit of sun here lol

am just having a cuppa and a look trying to win this ebay item before i quickly go and mop the bathroom floors and flush through both the loo's so those rooms are finished, then do afternoon school run, tea, take in washing and iron, do bed routine, tidy and wipe down kitchen....phew roll on wine time later this evening ha :)

lucytails · 13/07/2012 19:28

Nearly there now.

ta das continued

  • mopped bathroom and downstairs loo floor
  • flushed through the bleached toilets
  • done afternoon school
  • brought in washing (first time in what seem like ages that the washing dried outside)
  • done tea
  • done dishes and wiped down and tidied kitchen

Just got to do the bed time routine then wine time :)

AdoraBell · 13/07/2012 19:56

Hi everyone

Woke up mega late today, luckily before DDsGrin who are currently out playing with a friend.

Had Breakfast
Emptied DW, 80% still dirty so I checked the filter-YUK, cleaned that and set DW on a hot wash. Will re-load with aforementioned dirty stuff when it's finished.

WM on 2nd load
Puppies fed, pen cleaned out, and are now tearing roaming around the garden.
Vacuumed downstairs
Halfway through making cakes, Madeira for me, banana for OH. We will of course share our cakes, the labelling is only to denote favourites. Might also do a chocolate/marble one as DDs like that.

Still to do

Take carpet samples back and order carpets
Empty vacuum cleaners
Vacuum upstairs once DDs have cleared up their detritus
Eat something other than chocolate
Feed big dogs, they ate very late last might so are not exactly starving
Call vet re puppies jabs
Wash all four dogs they stink
Organise dinner
Up-date diary
Relax

carrotsandcelery · 13/07/2012 20:59

Whoa! Adora and Lucy you two are on fire today!

OP posts:
RGPargy · 13/07/2012 22:50

Hi everyone, can i join in please?

I am a terrible housework slut and really need to pull my socks up. Blush Here is my confession:

My house is a little scummy.

I only clean the bathroom when the water residue starts going brown around the taps on the basin (but i do keep the loo clean)
I hoover only when absolutely necessary
I mop the kitchen floor when there are serious splodges on it
The last time i wiped over the conservatory plastic was probably last year sometime
My dining table and kitchen side are permanently covered in clutter

H E L P !!!!!
