Welcome to the thread where we try to do what we can.

Some of you might like to try:
babysteps

Others may just want to do what you feel you can.
Life has a habit of throwing hurdles in the way!
Lets try to do what we can one step at a time.

All newcomers welcome. Smile

hoovered living room and dining room floors
put 1 x washing on
and put away 1 load of dry washing.

Hi lucy - sounds like you & cats have both made a good start today.

I'm trying to keep ontop of everything & give the kitchen a good clean this week. I just cleaned the hob, splashback & filters while the DDs were eating their lunch.

Can anyone suggest a good way to clean the glass on the inside of the oven doors? I'm sure someone had a cunning way of doing it, but I'm buggered if I can remember what it was!

carrotsandcelery · 09/06/2012 15:30

Hi bessie that was me. I dampened a dishwasher tablet and rubbed it all over the glass and it cleaned it really easily. I would wear a rubber glove to do this though as if it can do that to an oven door I dread to think what it would do to your hand.

bessie26 · 09/06/2012 19:12

a-ha! that was it carrots (how on earth did you think of doing that?!) I got quite alot off using a totally dry pan scrubber (and lots of elbow grease) - then I ran out of time, so I'll try the dishwasher tab thing tomorrow (defo wearing gloves)

CatsSleepAnywhere · 09/06/2012 21:13

Hi all, have had a "good" day today although that did include a sleep this afternoon. Blush I must have needed it!
Have done some filing and some paperwork shredding, also updated my diary.
This morning I got DD to "help" put away the Lego back into the tub. See earlier list for other jobs. Wink

Hi Lucy, and welcome.

Carrots I remember you mentioning the DW tablet on the oven door, been meaning to get around to trying it myselfBlush.

Well, nothing really to report, as predicted.

Got up late, OH was already cleaning up after puppies(had to have a word in the week), so I got on with making coffee and then helped him. He made a kind of pen in the kitchen as they've chewed cabinets. Then went out for 4 hours to find upon our return that they had escaped, so he's currently redesigning it.

Other than that, I've emptied and reloaded the DW and done a wash. DDs are sleeping over at a friend's but their rooms are un-vacuum-able, loads of tat on the floors which I refuse to pick up.

Had lunch and dinner out, so no cooking or washing up today. Puppies are currently sleeping curled up together, OH is building a puppy coral and DDs are partying.

Tomorrow I may get down shopping, special offers at supermarket.

lucytails · 10/06/2012 08:56

Morning all. I obviously didn't manage to get back on yesterday. We all went to a wedding reception in the afternoon then got back fairly late. Was a nice day so will probably do the stereotypical lazy day around the house today. Anyway i did manage to do the following yesterday:

  • washing put on the line and brought back in
  • cleaned bathroom (cleaned the bath, wiped the sink, wiped and bleached the loo)
  • wiped downstairs bathroom sink, wiped the loo - ran out of domestos so didn't clean the bowl....
  • made tea when we got back in the evening.

So far today i have made breakfast for all and put last nights dishes and this morning's breakfast dishes in the dishwasher.

To do:

wipe down the kitchen
change the beds
put bedding in the washing machine
do some ironing
clean downstairs loo (including nipping to tesco to get domestos)
mop bathroom and downstairs loo floors
make lunch and tea
wipe kitchen over in the evening
bath kids before bedtime

Ok that should keep me busy today!

lucytails · 10/06/2012 12:05

ta dahs

tidied and wiped down kitchen
unloaded dishwasher
changed the beds
bedding sheets have been in wash and have just put them in the tumble dryer
changed the kitchen bin

CatsSleepAnywhere · 10/06/2012 12:33

Hi lucytails, not sure where everyone is today. I haven't been able to get near the computer so far today. (everyone else been playing on it).
I haven't done a lot of cleaning today though, just a bit in the kitchen and I have put 1 x washing in the machine. The weather looks better here today. Smile

carrotsandcelery · 10/06/2012 12:35

bessie I have no idea why I did it. Our dw is opposite our oven so if I had the oven door open from trying to scrub it and I was then loading the dw it might have tempted me to give it a go. It worked really well and really easily too.

OptimisticPessimist · 10/06/2012 14:43

Afternoon. have totally failed at housework the last couple of days due to trying to write an essay and general laziness Blush but really need to get back on track this week, not only for the move but also because the landlord is coming at some point next week

Ta dahs today

Washing in machine
Emptied dishwasher, refilled, running again
Cleared and washed kitchen counters
Ditto kitchen table (big hot spot)
Washed kitchen sink
Harpic down toilets
Washed sink in downstairs toilet

Still to do

Big basket of washing to put away
Clean toilets
Clean upstairs bathrooms
Tidy up in living room
Stick towels in wash after DC's bath

I do my zones daily rather than weekly iyswim, so tomorrow is the living room. I want to have it relatively tidy so I can get stuck in, if it's a mess I'm liable to procrastinate and end up not doing it at all Blush

lucytails · 10/06/2012 16:18

ta dahs continued.....

This afternoon i have
made lunch
cleared kitchen and washed dishes
put another load of washing in the machine
mopped bathroom and downstairs loo floors

Tonight i'm just going to make tea, clear up kitchen (again), bath the kids and do some ironing.

Totally jealous of your nice clean toilets optimisticpessimist. My rubbish OH did shopping at tesco this afternoon and forget to get any bleach even though i reminded once again as he was walking out the door! I really have a pet hate about dirty germy toilets and its totally yucking me out now that the downstairs loo in particular hasn't been bleached for 4 or 5 days now Angry.

OptimisticPessimist · 10/06/2012 17:15

Ta Dahs (cont.)

Toilets cleaned
Bathrooms cleaned
Bathroom/toilet floors cleaned
Washing now in drier, another load in, 1 basket of washing put away (another one still to go)
Dishwasher emptied

Lucy, I wouldn't be too jealous, my toilets are lucky if they get done once a week it's on my list of things to improve upon when I move and have only one toilet to clean instead of three Grin

bessie26 · 10/06/2012 21:41

carrots the dishwasher tablet didn't work for me Sad. I found a dry pan scrubber (and lots of elbow grease) worked better - perhaps we have different dishwasher tablets (ecover) or grime? Grin

lucy I only bleach the loos once a week if they're lucky, but they do get a quick clean every day when I do FlyLady's Swish & Swipe

AdoraBell · 10/06/2012 21:42

Not worth reporting today, OH cleaned kitchen floor, then I cleaned kitchen floor but not because I deem his efforts unworthy, just because puppies will be puppies. Breakfast, WM on, collected DDs, currently making lunch/dinner, DDs have worn the puppies out walking them. Still need to organise tomorrow's paced lunches and do a quick S&S around the bathrooms. Really want to wash puppies now they've had all their jabs, I'll see if I can squeeze that in too.

OptimisticPessimist · 10/06/2012 21:50

Final Ta Dahs for today

Another basket of washing away
Towels washed and now in the drier
Dishwasher loaded and running

One basket of washing still to be folded and put away, I am going to stick a DVD on and do this before bed.

Didn't get to the living room, but LL is definitely coming on Tuesday so I'll just need to kick myself tomorrow to get started. Back to the normal routine, so out all morning, but DS1 has ASC so I'll have about 45minutes extra in the afternoon.

To Dos for tomorrow

Tidy living room
Hoover sofas
Sweep floor and under sofas
Wash the kids' little table and chair set
Wash floor

Tidy hall/understairs cupboard
Sweep and wash hall floor

Sort out a box of various stuff from garage (mostly for the bin I suspect)

Write up minutes from last week's playgroup meeting, which should have been done already but I was catching up on my OU course. I am juggling too many balls atm Grin

carrotsandcelery · 10/06/2012 22:09

Ah bessie it was a Finish dw tab so obviously much nastier and more chemically. Often a bit of salt mixed in with things makes them more abrassive (sp?)

I can't do hard scrubbing - I have nerve damage in my shoulders - so I was very relieved to discover a scrub free solution. I just need one for the windows now. At the moment the only solution I can see is to just do one or two more or less every day. I suppose I should make it part of my morning routine.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 11/06/2012 06:24

Morning all,

HERE is babystep 11 for anyone who is having a go. Wink

I probably won't link them every day --as I'm not very good at doing them all myself yet-- Grin

Today is a kind of "back to normal" day, DC back to school after their week off.
I on the other hand will be trying to do a few jobs and stay motivated! Hmm

I have sports day today and then the Olympic Torch is coming close by so my flying will be intermittent in the little gaps between running around.

I am washed and dressed though Wink

lucytails · 11/06/2012 11:43

Morning all. Kids are back at school today so have been getting back into the usual routine.

ta dahs:

  • everyone up, washed and breakfast'd
  • done the school run
  • nipped into tesco
  • cleared up kitchen, loaded dishwasher, etc
  • given both toilets a squirt of domestos
  • hoovered upstairs

to do:

  • make lunch
  • finish cleaning toilets
  • hoover downstairs
  • collect kids from school
  • make tea
lucytails · 11/06/2012 11:47

@carrotsandcelery - Enjoy your sports day and the olympic flame. I'm guessing you must be in Scotland somewhere then. We had it come through a couple of weeks ago. The streets were packed for it.

carrotsandcelery · 11/06/2012 13:15

Yes Lucy we are on Royal Deeside, so it comes fairly close to our little village today. Grin We are planning to see it in a tiny village on the route in the hopes that it is only mildly packed.

AdoraBell · 11/06/2012 16:00

This mornings Ta Da's

Up and dressed
Coffee
Breakfast for family
Packed packed lunches
Dogs in, family out
WM on
Cleaned kitchen floor, mammoth task this morning
Readied 2nd wash, stain remover on collars and cuffs
Kitchen floor, again
Fed puppies
Emptied DW, dodging puppies
Half filled DW, puppies got hold of the dirty cutlery so I gave up
My breakfast
Cleared away
Emptied WM, 2nd load in
Finished filling DW, flicked the switch
frog marched walked puppies around the garden, 4 laps - they are currently sprawled out asleep which means I can have a cup of tea in peace

Will update latr, after the supermarket and school pick-up

OptimisticPessimist · 11/06/2012 17:02

Progress so far today

Tidy living room
Hoover sofas
Sweep floor and under sofas
Wash the kids' little table and chair set - will do this tonight
Wash floor
Tidy hall/understairs cupboard - may leave this til tomorrow
Sweep and wash hall floor - ditto
Sort out a box of various stuff from garage (mostly for the bin I suspect) Two boxes in fact Grin
Write up minutes from last week's playgroup meeting - doing this once kids are in bed

Also need to clean my washing machine. What's the best way to get the drawer and the bit above/around it clean? Both are quite slimy and the bit above it is covered in black mould boak

Carrots hope you enjoy seeing the torch, we're getting it Wednesday evening, DS1 really wants to see it so we'll be traipsing off after school Grin
