Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Thank you for your well wishes sc - I now ask people to refer to me as zombie Grin Hope your DD's revision went well and good on you for setting an example. I'm afraid I;m showing my DD it is ok to stay in pyjamas all day sometimes Blush

Hope you can decide what to do Toffee, must be so hard with the school situation especially when you already know who to avoid and sometimes you can't help it which is frustrating! It bodes well that the doggy situations this morning haven't put you off having one - I'd say your ready! Just come home with a dog, it'll give your DH no option, that's what my DM did anyway ;)

Glad to hear it's not redundancies at least Engels, best of luck to him when it comes about.

Bitchy I will have to remember your homework day for a few years time and the lie-in trick ;)

Blue glad you had a fairly un-traumatic dentist visit! Hope you feel better soon and your work went well.

Well done Carpe, lauren, Nick, sc, WhoKnows, swanthing, foad on your weight losses!

Hope you had a nice day swanthing and are feeling better

I hate sunburn as well WhoKnows - who would have thought in this weather. I always use this method to get rid of it and has worked for me so hopefully it'll give you some respite!

My DP is also watching the football Carpe it's taken over the television Hmm

Sorry to anyone I've missed out, I've been up and down the page about ten times now!

Things are starting to quieten down now, so I'm baaaacccckkk! Hopefully they stay this way for a while! DD's tooth is still cutting and is up every hour now Angry

I lost 3 lbs on my weighing, I took the lowest score after four attempts and am very happy! Have gone way over today I think but will start again tomorrow with lots more exercise.

Posting my to-do list for tomorrow next as it is massive and hoping it gives me a kick up the bum!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend

Honu · 24/06/2012 21:55

Zilch! Nada! My scales only weigh to the nearest pound and, to the nearest pound I have lost 0lb! This despite drinking lots of water, being mindful of what I eat, and not raiding DH's mars bar stash once!

likelucklove · 24/06/2012 21:57

To Do
Morning routine
Weekly home blessing
Do daily mission
Put bag in attic and look for curtains up there
Do a hand wash
Take DD swimming
Register with doctors surgery
Baby step 22 - Build on control journal
Baby step 24 - Same
Baby step 25 - read Flylady's story
Do zumba DVD
Before bed routine

There's probably more too but can't think. Night all!

Honu · 24/06/2012 22:02

Whoknows get hold of an aloe plant, break off a leaf, and smear the jelly inside all over the sunburnt bits; works like a charm - in fact the boy next door thinks I am a witch because I gave him a leaf and showed him how to use it and all the red went.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/06/2012 22:03

Thanks Like - I might go and try that. It's not badly burnt, just pink really and I have slapped on a load of aloe vera gel. Just cross with myself for not being more careful.

swanthingafteranother · 24/06/2012 22:07

honu water retention can play tricks on the scales, that's what I always tell myself...anyway you do have to weigh yourself first thing in the morning, with nothing on or it's no use Grin

dd has gone to bed; I'm fed up with these football evenings. Dd is very left out and so I am, tommorrow I think we need to do something together (patchwork? scrabble? eat? read?) to fill the vacancy, anything but telly telly telly...

Anyway crossed fingers tomorrow I feel a bit more positive and less irritated!

swanthingafteranother · 24/06/2012 22:13

Bitchy I really feel for you, and admire your strength in following through. So far we are just delighted that ds even wants to play in his bedroom, I don't think we are ever going to be able to threaten removal of his possessions. No screen time is the only thing that he cares about losing.
Luckily ds is good at going to sleep, as long as we stick very firmly to the Percy Jackson routine. Otherwise he is unpredicable! We are finding him quite exhausting atm, but trying to come up with long term strategy, [as always] for preventing triggers, and dealing with tantrums. Hope you get to bed with blessings on your lips not curses, it is very hard work.

ToffeeWhirl · 25/06/2012 00:30

Bitchy - sorry you had a hard time with DS tonight. I hope he fell asleep sooner, rather than later.

Swan - 'preventing triggers and dealing with tantrums' is exactly what we are forever attempting with DS1. We were successful tonight. After a busy weekend, he was at the end of his tether which made him aggressive, stubborn and determined to be as bloody minded as possible. He refused to go to bed, so in the end I left him where he was (hiding behind the sofa) and simply carried on with the bedtime routine for DS2. Eventually, DS1 got bored and came upstairs to aplologise Shock. I honestly thought he'd be downstairs all night.

We have waved goodbye to the visiting boy and his dog Sad. The dog was lovely and kept me company when I was cooking (I rewarded her with chunks of roast chicken from our dinner). LikeLove - yes, I think I must be ready! It felt really natural to have a dog here. I feel as if there's a space in the house for one.

Meeting up with a friend and her puppy tomorrow morning. Having a very doggy time at the moment Smile

Too sleepy for any more PMs. Night all.

sanguinechompa · 25/06/2012 05:18

Hello all. Hope everyone is OK.

Sorry I didn't get back on here last night/do personals/or summarise Body Clutter totals. Will do so today.

Got embroiled in football last night. DD's godfather came around to watch it and we had to smuggle him in without her knowing/waking up.

Going to post links now and then off to finish ironing some second-hand school uniform that is going in the school sale today. Will be back this afternoon if not before!

Have a good start to the week eveyrone.

sanguinechompa · 25/06/2012 05:31

OK everyone. It's the last week of the Flying month. (For some of us - the last week of school before the holidays - yikes!) Let's make it count!!

*

Today's baby-step no. 25 , for Monday 25th June is here one you can take or leave about reading Fat Fairy's personal testimonial.

This week, we are in Zone 5, the living room Declutter 15 minutes every day in current zone.

Once your sitting room is decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

You can find today's mission (and all the missions for the week ahead) here getting rid of stuff that doesn't belong in sitting room

The habit for June is a good one - drinking water - more info here

The daily focus for Monday is the weekly home "bleugh" the weekly home blessing

If I've forgotten anything it should be in today's flight plan and here is the kid's challenge.

As it's the beginning of the week, here are some Flying reminders

Have a good week Fledglings!!

**

Have a productive week eveyrone!!

Morning all!

Just a list dump but I will be back later to catch up on the weekend!

Home Bleugh
Post office
Walk dog
Shred
Today's mission- there isn't much
Clean windows and doors
Put clothes in vacuum bags into the loft
Shop for essentials
School run later
Playgroup this morning

BBL!

sanguinechompa · 25/06/2012 08:20

Catch up:

Toffee Glad your Saturday event went well for all and hope you had zombie-free dreams last night! I absolutely adore Jack Russell's so I really envy you having one come to visit (aside from vomit). How did ds1 get on with it? Could he be persuaded? (Having said that, I don't think any of the terrier types are the easiest to train.) Enjoy the puppy today!

Bitchy/Swan sympathies with the testing bed-times. It's just at that vulnerable moment after a long day when they can really test one's patience. DD driving us mad at the moment not wanting to go to bed, not going to sleep once she is there. And the more tired she gets, the worse it is.

Bitchy hope you both got some sleep in the end!

Swan angel of the hearth Grin hope you are feeling much better today and well done on your productive Sunday. Good going with the weight loss too

Likelucklove v. impressed by your assiduous study of baby-steps!! And congrats on the lost pounds!!

Bet you have lost weight Honu despite what scales say! (You can't have failed to walking around that exhibition!!) A lot of the health & fitness books I am reading atm instruct readers not to weigh themselves but to rely on tightness of clothes etc as a more accurate measure. Arf at white-witchery.

I think I may have put back on the entire kilo I lost during the week yesterday. I was largely confined to house because of the weather and revision, so pedometer steps were pitiful, and I succumbed to huge bowls of pasta and wine in the evening to get through the football.

Carpe Top Flying marks for getting to the bottom of the ironing pile

Whoknows hope sunburn not too painful this morning - it's so easy to be caught out isn't it - hardly many chances to get habituated this summer either! And well done on your lost 1lb!

[At the risk of tmi...
.... short interlude while SC visits the smallest room in the house and manages to flush her pedometer down the lavatory Shock!! Not a good start to the week]

Foad well done on your weight loss andam v. impressed by your willpower too!! School would have found a few bread rolls missing if I had been driving!! Good luck with getting everything straight by Thurs - loads of time - you can do it!!

Blue well done on shedding the pounds (sounds as if we had a similar day in terms of grumpiness levels yesterday btw)

Nicknacks hope you survived your chore-filled Sunday (not much opportunity to renew your spirit with dh away I am sure) and well done on the lost 1lb!

Engelsmeijse well done re: Sunday shred!

Lauren 4lbs weight loss in one week is brilliant going!! Well done!!

Huge wing flaps to Ellie PA Flying Kiwi Linzer Feetheart Scruffy Castlelough Maggie Curlyfrizzball and anyone else I may have forgotten!

Flyingwithoutwings · 25/06/2012 08:37

Morning all... I am red faced and shamed to say that I have fallen into my old pattern of only doing what I have to Blush
So today:
Bleughhh: sheets, dust, vacuum, bathroom
Clear my side of the bedroom Blush
Sort DS clothes
Food shopping
Plant some containers..

sanguinechompa · 25/06/2012 09:02

Weekly Body Clutter round up for week ending Sunday 24 June:

Well done everyone for watching the weight/pounding the streets (or carpet)/ shedding the pounds and kilos/drinking more water this week!!

Swan has lost another kilo (yay!) done loads of sport and is declaring 78k
Whoknows has lost 1lb!! (well done!!) in addition keeping off the 9lb already lost last year (which is really good going seeing as she can't exercise until after op)
Lauren is sporting a shiny medal having lost 4lbs!! Brilliant stuff!!
Carpe has lost at least 1.2lbs despite having participated in a girls' night out!! V. good going!!
Engelsmeijse has been Shredding!! Well done!
Likelucklove has lost 3lbs!! Excellent going!!
Honu has been drinking lots of water, resisting tempting snacks and walking loads!! Well done!!
Nicknacks has lost a 1lb which takes her up to the one stone lost mark!! Good on you!!
Blue has lost 2lbs!! Really excellent!
Foad has lost 3lbs!! Brilliantly done!!
Sanguinechompa has lost 1.4 kilos and is weighing in at 78.8k [truly can't believe it emoticon as have been over MFP limit every day this wk save for one]

Still to report in (only if you want to!!):
Feetheart
Maggie
Kiwi

*Please, please let me know if I have included you in the list when you didn't want to be included, or vice versa and I've inadvertently left you out. (Have tried to winkle out above info in thread but am all scrolled out, sorry!)

General Body Clutter/MFP
Kiwi and Maggie I'm sorry - I know I promised down thread to extend you both an invitation to join MFP. Haven't got to it yet. Well get there asap!! Haven't forgotten.

Whoknows I'm afraid I still haven't worked out where to "chat" generally with everyone, even though you kindly sent me invitation to joing (which I've accepted) Can you give me some pointers please?

Oh and can I just say how much I really appreciate the weight-loss support/motivation received on here. As some of you know, dh (bless him) although wonderfully supportive in many, many ways, is obsessed with food and is constantly bringing home and cooking all sorts of tempting treats. So the fact that you lot are battling along with me is making a huge difference as I sort of felt 'alone' with it before ifyswim.

Hello Flying no shame in that at all!! You can only do, what you can do!! It's the fact that you are doing that is the main thing!!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/06/2012 09:07

Morning all,

Feeling more cheerful now, redness has reduced to pinkness and there is no soreness. My consolation is that it will turn brown! Honu - thanks, I keep meaning to try and get hold of an aloe vera plant for this exact reason but never get round to it. I do keep a tube from the health food shop in my first aid kit, next best thing.

Right, lots to do today, mainly washing and tidying, pilates class and hair appointment too. Why is it that my hair has so many bad days but on the day it's due for a chop I wake up and it looks fabulous? Why can't that happen on the other days?

I also need to catch up with MFP. I totally failed to input anything yesterday, but did do quite a bit of walking.

Back later.

CarpeJugulum · 25/06/2012 10:31

Work sucks.

Just spent 2.5 hours trying to sort out various cock-ups. I know it's overtime and I'll get paid, but still Sad

Morning routines are all done, washing is on and I'm starting the daily Brew drinking.

Will probably be back once DS naps, but need to run now and get some stuff done.

swanthingafteranother · 25/06/2012 10:38

SC owhy do my posts keep disappearing when I press return?
I can declare
78.3 kg first thing am. Despite Sunday Supplement -al food- syndrome, blueberry muffins yesterday afternoon were my nemesis.

I hasten to add that hardly any of weekend's exercise was me, it was all children, apart from a bit of walking.

Toffee ds1 is going through a bad patch as well ! He refused to lay the table and was in sulk whenever I asked him to do anything; I think I need to change my tone - he is very sensitive to Tone Hmm and hates the idea he is being criticised or ticked off.

Today started with me in floods of tears talking to DSis out some pyschobabble, but I feel better now, after a walk to church to count money, where it turned out they had doublebooked me. So back again, with spare time to sort out the house...

Cleaning lady is downstairs, dealing with kitchen
I must try and get upstairs a bit more optimistic Smile

todo
clothes on floor in all rooms
rubbish on floor in all rooms
sundries on floor in all rooms
books/papers in ds1 room

then go to Staples and buy a proper filing cabinet

mealplan - risotto tonight with sausages (use up chicken stock)
meatballs tomorrow
cheesy potato bake with ham Wed
noodles with beef Thurs
fish steaks and tomato salad Fri
Sat pasta and tomato, supper salad nicoise
Sunday roast dinner, chicken

to buy, ham, eggs, sausages, beef, fish steaks, green veg

Whoknows I don't think I've ever tanned without getting slightly red first, but it always turns.

BitchyInTheCorner · 25/06/2012 11:44

Sleep last night was insufficient to feel better (we both needed an early night, and neither of us got it) So today I am emptying ds' room. And finding places for everything to go. I have also turfed out the storage cupboard. Rescued some mugs and a couple of pots. And been a bit ruthless. Which is a good thing but the dust allergy is bad. And although I am trying to tidy up the house looks sooooo much worse that if I stop and think about it I might cry. However, if I keep going it will be fine and possibly end up tidier then when i started. That is the theory. and the hope

Have read but brain is transforming into a ball of goo and information retention is failing.

MaggieMcVitie · 25/06/2012 12:56

Helloooo!! Have been away for a week and am currently stuck in traffic on the M6 on the way home. DH has been holding the fort whilst (while?) I've been away, he assures me it's 'not too bad' Hmm

Haven't caught up on personals yet but will do tonight - I have missed you all! MFP has also fallen by the wayside but am back on it tomorrow. Also have 2 days of supply booked for this week already Grin

Hope you're all ok!

swanthingafteranother · 25/06/2012 13:13

done
tidied dd's room and another declutter, yet again Hmm
hung up clothes ironed by cleaning lady
taken three things out of loft - shelves, picture, chair and put three things in it, snow leopard, panda and pony stable! Finally after 8 years the shelves have come in useful, one of those ornamental whatnot shelves for knicknacks, which will suit dd very well, also the chair-that-cannot-be-sat-on which matches her chest of drawers, will do very nicely for school uniform laying out!

lunch eaten [fond farewell, still not quite full] rice, leftover chicken sauce, and a banana
