Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Blue exciting to go on conference! DH will manage fine, the worst that can happen is that he appreciates you all the more!
PA that happened to me with laundry basket, which enemy cat had sprayed, kept wondering why kitchen smell kept coming and going....and why ds1's room smelt of cat as well as boyBlush
Magicmutt are you toffee flavoured? Btw I think there is a collie rescue - also Many Tears have collie puppies from Ireland and Wales. I think collies are dogs that sometimes end up being rehomed at 1 too because they are very very clever and needs lots of stimulation/"work", and behave badly because of lack thereof.

BlueEyeshadow · 12/06/2012 09:07

Linzer yes it's an event at the Society of Authors' Translators' Association. Exam went ok I think, though I dreamt I failed it last night! Won't get results for weeks if not months...

Waves to all from the train!

Brices · 12/06/2012 10:02

Blue Good luck with your conference, sounds like fun

Hope all sickness is abiding, big fan of diarolyte here, I reckon it works wonders!

To Do List:-

Feed DS in 5 mins
Yoga Class
Plan food menu for the week
s&s
15 mins in bathroom

Had great success yesterday with vinegar solution on shower screen. Though I only had white wine vinegar, still it worked. Bit daunting that zone 3 has bathroom and both children's rooms and yet next week zone 4 has just one bedroom Hmm

CarpeJugulum · 12/06/2012 10:29

Brices Do what I do and what the Fat Fairy tells you not to do which is shift your zones!

I found that the Fat Fairy set up seemed to be for a typical American house, which has dining rooms at the front of the house/on a walkthrough (from watching too many sit-coms!) but mine just isn't - so her zones made no sense for me. For example, the bathroom is only used for DS in our house (& guests), so really only needs a quick S&S, whereas our ensuite needs thorough cleaning - but doesn't make sense doing it as a sole room, it's better if I do it when the bedroom is being cleaned.

I use the Home Routines app - so have programmed it accordingly. The only issue is doing the "missions", but these tend to be the same every month/couple of months, so I note them down and just do the missions when it applies to my week! Not that I've decluttered enough to run the missions, but still

Seen the Olympic Torch now. Half an hour of standing about. Three buses. The torch. Lets all go home. Still, the police outriders were brilliant and waved to all the kids Grin that alone made DS's day!

Hope we all have a good rest of day!

feetheart · 12/06/2012 10:37

Brices - I always struggle with that one too though our bathroom is tiny so can be done quite easily when I actually do it. I also can't cope with the living room usually only getting a few days a month, it is always my worst room Hmm

:) at dog related confusion/hints

Need to dump a short list and get on as have less than an hour at home:

  • Sort through camping stuff. Was really good about washing though am still ploughing through it but have boxes of camping 'stuff' all over kitchen/living room which is driving me mad now.
  • Sweep kitchen floor
  • Put cat bedding in wash

Then have:

  • Father's Day crafts at school
  • Reading at school
  • Home with 2 extra children
  • Feed all children
  • Take DS to Beavers
  • Hand over rest of children to their mother who will walk them to Brownies
  • Sort out rest of Father's Day craft payments etc for rest of the sessions - every lunchtime this week
  • Ironing

Need to get on............

ToffeeWhirl · 12/06/2012 11:42

Linzer - there were some obvious clues, weren't there? Wink

Swan - Grin at 'toffee-flavoured'.

Carpe - laughing at your description of watching the Olympic Torch. We have to go through the same in a few weeks' time as DS2 has his heart set on seeing it, thanks to school.

Brice - Envy at your Home Routines app. Actually, I think I need a Life App -something that tells me what to do in every area of my life.

Feet - looks like you're having a real 'wash day'. Hope the weather is better where you are .

castle - you can watch how we get on with our dog and then learn from our mistakes! Still in the research stage at the moment, though.

DS1 started his LEA online lessons this morning. I must say, I felt a weight lift from my shoulders once he was in his lessons and I could get on with other stuff. Normally, I spend all the school hours working with him and only get on with housework stuff after school's finished or during breaks. This morning, I was able to do a room rescue on DS2's bedroom and then finish reading my book (the latest Anne Tyler), whist DS was downstairs studying Citizenship Confused and Art.

BBL.

MaggieMcVitie · 12/06/2012 12:11

Aha!! Toffee, I suspected as much Wink

Well, had a text from school last night to ask me to do a day of supply on Friday - a bit Grin and a bit Shock but I'm pleased to be back...
DS1 overheared and said in a comedy announcer's voice 'Look out kids...Mum goes back to school!' Hmm

Thanks for the messages about DH, he's doing well now and hoping to go back to work very soon. He tried to go back after Xmas but it was to early - after about 5 weeks everyone could see it was really too much and work asked him to get himself signed off again. I just worry that the longer he's off, the harder it is to go back - his confidence has really been knocked and he works in quite a physical 'blokey' environment IYSWIM. Sorry to 'blurt'!

No flying yet, as at work but office empty at the mo so having a sneaky catch up!

likelucklove · 12/06/2012 16:14

Sorry, I read last night but fell asleep since we was out late getting new tyres. I cba to read through it all and DD will be up soon do this'll be short and sweet!

maggie hope your husband is better soon Thanks

To everyone who agreed to start a body clutter challenge, when shall we start? I need to go into town to weigh myself and be very Blush But I'm starting c>5k next week when my joggers from ebay come through!

I'm on my phone so can't remember your name but the lady who lives by Talybont I got mixed up! Is it ok there now? Sunny and 22c here do hopefully heading to you!

I did it all yesterday, you have to believe me Wink

To Do
Morning routine
Do laundry
Take DD to clinic
Do 27 fling boogie in DD's room
Intensively clean bathroom including baseboards
Hoover and mop downstairs and bathroom - I bloody hate stone floors!
Before bed routine

Hope you've all had a good few days and are enjoying the sun!

BitchyInTheCorner · 12/06/2012 16:55

We don't call it a blurt around here. it's a mind splat and i bloody specialise in them.

I have spend today prcrastinating. My ta da list is short and doesn't include anything it really should. ConfusedHmm

Ta da
up and out
ds to school on time
30min walk
meeting
food shopping
draw up a schedule for ds
look for some new music
Finalise plans for tonight
put a load of bedding wash on
sort out diary for activities this week - must not forget swimming lessons for ds tomo
Sort out contact visits for ds for nxt two months.
Shower and hair wash
sort out stuff for training later
Collect ds from school.
Pick up extra packet of hair dye (with best will in the world one is not going to be enough for my mop waist length and thick )
Sort out for dsis to visit
make tea

Just off to training. And then will be spending the evening with a friend. I expect there will be much dye and chatting but little productivity.

CarpeJugulum · 12/06/2012 18:46

Love the mind splat image Bitchy - exactly what mine does most days! Grin

So my ta-da list:
three lots of washing (last in the machine now)
Saw olympic flame
Tidied toys (became more an energetic crisis clean as I was in the zone!)
Baby gymnastics
Playdate for DS
Shopping in town
WAH job.

Doesn't seem a lot, but I haven't stopped today. Oh, and my shopping is due anytime between the next 15-75 mins. I'm hoping for it being here in 15 mins, but sods law dictates this will not happen!

Nursing a bad headache through not drinking enough Sad so off to stock up on fluids and take some tablets. DH has stepped into the breach and is doing DS's bedtime routine, so I can chill.

laurenamium · 12/06/2012 19:02

Hi all, going to dump my ta da list now whilst it's fresh and then come back later to catch up properly!

Ta da:
Cleaned bathroom
Picked up dog poo
Mowed lawn out the back- was a nightmare!
Hoovered throughout
All normal routines
Tidied away toys
Walked dog
Swept kitchen
Washed up and shined sink
Sorted through a pile of kids clothes given to DD, all immaculate and next Grin

Still need to tidy playroom and put away outdoor toys after DD goes to sleep and order printer ink. Be back soon!

ToffeeWhirl · 12/06/2012 19:33

Brought a friend of DS2s back home with us this afternoon, which means my room rescue is all undone now .

Aiming for an early night tonight. Feeling achey and tired.

SC - how are you doing? Hope the bug is passing quickly.

sanguinechompa · 12/06/2012 20:37

Thank you Toffee and everyone else

I'm still feeling a bit ropey (fine when I am sitting down, but a bit swimmy and wierd when active) but am much, much better than yesterday morning thanks. Don't think it is stomach bug per se, think dd and I have different version of same thing: headache, hot and cold, feeling feak and weeble. She has painful swollen throat (which I don't) and temp, I have had stomach probs (she has not thankfully). So not too bad all in all!!

Thank you so much Whoknows¨for stepping in to the breach yesterday! Much, much appreciated!!

Will be back in a mo with steps/catch-up!

OK - tomorrow's steps first - so that Whoknows can go off duty Smile and have a well deserved Wine (Posting this earlyish in the hope that you are not in the middle of composing a long round up Whoknows!!)

Think I will adopt your row of smilies rather than asterisks! Much more motivating!!

Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

Tomorrow's baby-step, number thirteen for Wed 13th June is here consolidating routines and getting to grips with missions for the first time.

We are still in Zone 3, the bathroom + one extra room - details of zone and detailed cleaning here Try and spend 15 mins decluttering in current zone.

If your zone 3 is already decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

You can find tomorrow's mission (and indeed all the missions for the week ahead) here

We are still trying to drink more water in June here

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day when we are supposed to tackle all the things we have "resisting"

If I've missed anything it will be here on the flight plan and here is the kids challenge both of which should update.

With regard to BODY CLUTTER - if everyone is happy - how about we settle on a Sunday weigh-in for those who wish to do so? Don't have to state weight if you don't want to - just amount lost (thinking positively here!!)

In addition, those of us who want to (and I see some of you already have) can support each other on MyFitnessPal - communicating nickname through this thread? This has the double advantage of having all the appropriate weight loss tools to hand and not swamping this thread with our individual battles!

Sound OK to eveyrone? Please speak up if you have better suggestions!! Smile

Thank you SC - I'm the other way round, can't sit down for too long Sad at least not on this hard chair at the computer. I'm going out to buy a laptop at the weekend. Thank you for the flowers!

Right, as I am off duty, and tired out (Tuesdays are particularly hectic) I'm going to bed with my crochet and Kindle. Night all!

likelucklove · 12/06/2012 21:37

Get better soon sc and whoknows Thanks

Ok gonna shift this weight! Did have a healthy meal tonight but will see how the weekend goes!

To Do

Morning routine
Do laundry
Take DD to clinic
Do 27 fling boogie in DD's room
Intensively clean bathroom including baseboards
Hoover and mop downstairs and bathroom
Before bed routine

I'm on myfitnesspal also, I've missed people posting their names sorry. Are they the same as your MN nicknames? Mine is if you can add me/I'll add you. It does like to point out to me though I haven't logged into it yet Blush

Hope you all have a good evening

sanguinechompa · 12/06/2012 21:52

false alarm with dd ... so ...

Toffee/Carpe Hope you can catch up on sleep tonight and feel better tomorrow

Toffee think you are v. brave contemplating taking on a collie!! Absolutely beautiful beautiful dogs but don't they require hours and hours of training and exercise? And aren't they a bit nervy? (Sorry if this all sounds terribly negative - don't mean to be - and of course all depends on individual dog) Perhaps you could look at a collie crossed with something a bit more docile?

Arf at your "life" app - boy do I need one of those Grin!!

Carpe v. v. exciting about police outriders Olympic Torch!! Would love to get to Blighty to see it!!

Bitchy how organised of you to procrastinate in time for tomorrow!! Wink NOw that's forward planning!!

Maggie so sorry to hear what you have been going through with your dh's illness. That must be so tough on all of you. Hope he can take it steady returning to work and that his confidence returns soon. And I hope the other blokes at his work are sympathetic when he does go back. He will hopefully be feeling a lot stronger by then x

Brilliantly done at your interview - it's great the outcome was so positive - you obviously impressed them v. much for them to want to use you so soon!!!

And am hugely impressed that you managed to save your 4 yr old sow. They are so difficult to restore to get back on track once they go downhill!! Wheeeeeeeekkk! Wheeeeekkk! (My sows both died within a few wks of one another at the age of 4, and someone mentioned on a thread on here that 4 is a very susceptible age for gps, but once they get past that tricky patch they are set for a very long life apparently!!)

nicknacks (sympathies from a low-flying sufferer!) I hope you are all feeling much better. Sorry if I have this wrong - memory not functioning well tonight - but did you go to Margate on hols? If so, think I saw something in news aobut water sources being contaminated with sewage because of heavy rain leading to widespread d&v. Hope you are all over the worst anyway x

Brices I swear by vinegar for cleaning everything and anything! Agree about wierd zoning - just adapt to suit yourself.

Blue good luck with exam results. What languages do you speak?

Linzer ooh I have 'laminator' envy now Grin

PA arf at cat pee

Foad I love that dress! You will look v. stylish!

Castlelough arf at your description of MFP!! You will have friends there v. soon!! [whispers hopefully - "is there really a naughty corner there too?"]

Blue hope the conference went well today!

Huge waves to Lauren Likelucklove Feetheart Swan Ellie and eveyrone else I've missed!!

sanguinechompa · 12/06/2012 21:57

Toffee sorry!!! I've just read my post back about potential collie and it sounds horribly condescending and negative!! Not what I intended! Just think they can be quite stressful animals to be aorund when kept as domestic pets and I didn't want you to have more stress heaped on yoru plate than you already have. No doubt you are doing all the right things/research/talking to people though. Apologies again.

Likelucklove will post a list of MyFitnessPal "candidates" and their MFP names tomorrow as a reference if you like! That should make it easier for us to track one another down.

Given your condition (sounds really painful) I am even more grateful for you taking over today and yesterday Whoknows More Thanks

sanguinechompa · 12/06/2012 22:07

Forgot to say ...

Morecats great news about your dd and her increasing confidence!! Smile

Ellie good luck with last mad week of exams!!

Whoknows arf at your dd peeing-in- night story!! Poor love, she must have dreamt she was on the potty!!

PA sorry about your dd3's non-existent adult care ... that must be worrying for you

Off to bed now!

Bonne nuit!
Goeie nacht!

Hi! I did say I would be back for a mega catch up but I'm really tired and start work at 6am so shower then bed for me! the only fly lady rule I can stick to is bed time!

Thank you for taking over whoknows

I'll add you on mfp now likeluck

Thanks for the links sc, I agree with the hyper collie thing- but I'm not one to talk with a wild springer roaming around my house Grin good luck toffee Wink it will keep your DS on his toes anyway Grin

I'm happy for Sunday weigh ins...I'll only be saying how much I've lost though- I'm too fat to shame myself with my actual weight Blush

Will post my list for tomorrow during nap time in the morning! Night all!

Hello ladies! Just popping by to say that I mentioned these threads on my blog tonight. I promise this isn't some shameless plug, I just thought it would be polite to tell you that I had given you all a mention. I was kind, I promise! The blog post is about what I like and dislike about Fly Lady. Hope you don't mind!
