Today's babystep no 17 is for Arti Grin

carrotsandcelery · 17/05/2012 11:27

Yesterday's babystep was just reading an email btw. Meh! As bessie would say.

carrotsandcelery · 17/05/2012 13:08

Ta Das:

Ironing done - there was very little
chocolate on the 2 tray bakes I made earlier in the week
healthy flap jacks in the oven - I doubled the recipe so hope it works
managed to chat to friend who came round (in a very squeaky voice)

bessie26 · 17/05/2012 13:19

Wow carrots I thought it was bad enough returning 10 tops! (I kept 2)

I am just having a Brew and a rest. I have filled the brown wheelie bin & the wheelbarrow with weeds. I have moved one of my raised (veg) beds. Next I have to re-lay the carpet around the raised beds & put down the permeable membrane I bought.

Luckily it is perfect gardening weather here, bright, but just slightly overcast so I'm not getting too hot & bothered.

carrotsandcelery · 17/05/2012 13:43

That sounds really satisfying bessie.

What veg do you grow?

We have rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries, quince (ooh get me!), apples, blackcurrants and gooseberries. We also have seeds to grow round carrots in a trough that we have which will start indoors and move outdoors if the weather ever improves. The dcs are also helping my ddad grow tomatoes at his house.

We don't have many veg, more fruit, but I would like to get into more veg.

I struggle to keep on top of the garden as it is though.

I tried on all the tops in store, in a cubicle that had a curtain that was smaller than the door - always a joy with all my wobbly bits on show to the world as I wriggle into tops that do nothing for me Blush

carrotsandcelery · 17/05/2012 13:46

I forgot:

Ta Da:

Made a sausage and lentil stew with loads of ginger in it and have now chucked it in the slow cooker and some large tatties in the oven for baked tatties with it later on tonight. Yum!

We have very little useful food in the house. I am stuck here waiting for the tv repair men for the 4th time this year. I am sure it would be cheaper for them just to give us a new tv Hmm

educatingarti · 17/05/2012 14:25

Grin at babystep 17

I think I haven't actually decided what my bedtime is! It is difficult because I do things differently on different days and work until different times!

I'm going to have to think about this one.

carrotsandcelery · 17/05/2012 14:34

I am trying to make it 10.30 but doing it gradually as the sudden shift didn't work for me.

No matter what time I go to bed my body naturally wants me to put the light out at 11.55pm every day. Even if I don't watch the time the point when I get sleepy is always the same Hmm

bessie26 · 17/05/2012 17:11

carrots, at the moment i have asparagus potatoes, onions, garlic, rhubarb, blueberries, raspberries, broad beans & peas. My ILs gave me a few spare kale plants which I put in today. My parents said they would grow a few extra tomato & bean plants for me too. I also need to get some purple sprouting broccoli in, I didn't do any last year & really missed it!

carrotsandcelery · 17/05/2012 17:19

I would be interested to hear how you get on with the kale as our rabbits and guinea pigs love it and it costs a packet.

I was thinking about growing peas or broadbeans where we usually plant sweet peas. Do they need deep soil as we only have a very shallow trough there?

bessie26 · 17/05/2012 17:28

I've grown kale before & it was easy. These plants looked a bit sad, so am not sure they are going to make it!
I don't think they need anything too deep. I usually stick the broad bean seed in about 3", I would guess the peas were about the same (can't really remember as I did mine back in oct/nov)

carrotsandcelery · 17/05/2012 17:34

Am I too late now I wonder? I will have to google it.
