Toddler is really suffering and I'm exhausted from dealing with him.

carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2012 12:21

What is wrong with him Scout? Is it tiredness or sore teeth or something else?

Unhappy toddlers are very hard work indeed. (sympathy) and Chocolate.

bessie26 · 20/03/2012 12:29

does TS like ice-cream?

carrots I can see where things need to slide up & down, and that they have limescaley gunk on, so I've just been getting my (old) toothbrush around them. It's better than it was already, so I am happy. I'm glad I'm doing it (DH was going to do it at the weekend) as it's is definately a job for someone with smallish hands as it is a very enclosed space (it's a built in one) and needs to be done fairly carefully (not brute force!)

Have you looked at the Missions for this week? There are some "Bonus Declutter Missions" on there too (are these new? I don't remember seeing them before)

It looks like the last piece of ice has fallen out of the freezer, so I'd better go wipe that out & get it back on.

bessie26 · 20/03/2012 12:32

oh, I got confused - I thought TS had the sore throat, but it's carrots & cats who are sick. I'll get back to my cleaning!

Scout19075 · 20/03/2012 12:33

I'm working on the assumption of molars, given the signals he's giving me. He can't quite tell me yet, though, which makes it even harder. Sad I'm so tired now, though, from dealing with him. It's not his fault, I understand that, but the low-level whinge, the full on tantrums, the contradictions (no, yes, no, yes, yes, no), the bites (he only bit me when I tried to get my finger in for a feel/rub and to get some tooth gel stuff on his gums).

I'm dreading tonight when I have to force him to Seniors.

CamperWidow · 20/03/2012 13:00

Hey guys!
Boo to all lurgy and grumpy/poorly kids :(
I am shattered!!! I'm on day 7 of Shred as we went away for the w/end and I couldn't do it and it's killed me! I didn't feel this bad the first time! CBA to moveto make a brew, can barely move my fingers to type!!!
Gonna have a go at the sweetcorn fritters for lunch, might have to sit down to make them though Grin

CatsSleepAnywhere · 20/03/2012 13:02

Hi all, just signing in before I start on this afternoons jobs.
I had soup for lunch.

carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2012 13:31

Oh Scout that sounds really draining. Is it pleasant enough to get him outside for a good run around? It might distract him and give you a break. Will he be able to nap?

Camper you are encouraging me never to try the Shred and to stick to dog walking and horse riding for my exercise.

Ds appears to be perking up so I have given him some maths to do. He loves maths Hmm so that is not as evil as it sounds.

bessie what temperature do you cook the feta muffins at? I did them at 180C as that is my usual muffin temp but they took a lot longer than 15 mins. That said, my oven is a bit unpredictable. They smell lovely. I can't wait for tea time Grin

Cats you are doing well at getting yourself going. Well done!

I had never noticed the bonus mission bessie. I suspect it is new. The bedroom mission seems to have reappeared very quickly - how often do people declutter their socks? Maybe I should have taken the mission into another bedroom this time around.

carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2012 13:32

Thinking about your soup Cats I have just realised that I haven't had any lunch. I gave ds his lunch and a friend popped round so we chatted while he ate and I haven't had any myself.

I think I should go and scour the cupboards Grin

bessie26 · 20/03/2012 13:40

I am having lunch part two (soup)

carrots I always guess the temp for those muffins too! (the original recipe doesn't state it)

Are the other bedrooms in a different zone? I can't remember, but I agree the master bedroom seems to have come round quick again.

Hope you get out in the sun scout - I'm sure it will do you both some good. Right, off to show off write my Ta Das & then do some more...

carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2012 14:03

Yum bessie - I have had 3 Blush for lunch and they are delicious. Thank you!

Ds has done 5 pages of his maths book so I said he could take a break. He doesn't want to. He wants to carry on [strange child]

Scout19075 · 20/03/2012 14:07

Oh yes, we went out for walk this morning with his "Coot-ter" (scooter) -- he can't really ride it properly but he wanted to go for a walk with it. But that's when a lot of it started. "Out, out!" he said but the moment I opened the door "no, no, no!" Then convinced him going out to the car to close the boot was a good idea (since the scooter was in the boot I had opened it) then it was "ohhhh, coot-ter!" Then he didn't like the directions I was going to walk. Then he wanted to go home (after an hour of wandering around) but when I said about going home/going in this direction (to get home) it was "WAAHHHHHHHAAAAA" It went downhill from there.

Before we had gone out he kept putting his cheek in my hand or on my chest and when we got home he kept trying to push my hand away.

He's still napping (the calpol kicked in before I put him down) not quite two hours into the nap. I'm going to let him sleep as long as he wants it will be the best thing for all of us!

Seniors tonight so I might give him another dose before we leave for the school. I hope the girls and crafts (gluing & sticking and markering for him) will be enough of a distraction.

carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2012 14:19

Oh dear! That sounds like an exercise in patience Scout. I am glad he is having a nap and you are getting a break from it. I feel bad for both of you.

Ds is boiling. He keeps coming for cuddles and he is roasting. He also keeps burping (sorry if tmi) and I am worried it becomes a bit more Shock The burps could be the resolution of the tummy ache though. He seems quite chirpy through it all though.

I have no idea whether to take him to his drum lesson or not. What does the Mumsnet jury think?

bessie26 · 20/03/2012 14:33

carrots - I think if he seems ok in himself (& the burps don't turn into anything else) he should go. Wouldn't he be upset if he didn't get to go? Unless of cours you have a "too ill for school, to ill to play" rule in place?

bessie26 · 20/03/2012 14:33

scout You should be napping too!

carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2012 14:56

I think he should go too bessie. If he is feeling better then it seems an encouragement to be better iykwim? An incentive to let on that he feels better. He has been back out on the trampoline so can't feel too bad can he?

liveinazoo · 20/03/2012 17:16

carrots i have a confession
i have been tinkering with the hallowed banana and oat muffin recipe

i have just switched the bananas for 3 small sweet apples, finely grated and added cinnamon and vanilla.brown sugar for white......end result apple and cinnamon quite acceptable muffins

i have 2 other variations im tinkering with and will share the results if work

hope you arent offended as banana and oat is now a family favourite

liveinazoo · 20/03/2012 17:22

p.s does ds write in what time he wakes

i need something to help me

ive just accepted the zoolets ar early risers but as they ae all a bit older now id like to think that it would be possible to teach them to self entertain and be quiet til 6 every day

carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2012 17:35

zoo nothing to be offended about. I tinker with every recipe constantly.

Ds does write down when he woke up and when he got up. If he stays quiet in bed until 6am he gets rewarded. It took about a week for him to get the message but it has kept him quiet since.

I felt like it was a ridiculous idea when the psychologist presented it to me but it is gradually making a difference.

Like I say, I don't think he is sleeping more but he is letting the rest of us sleep.

Ask as many questions as you like as it is hard to convey it on t'internet!

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 20/03/2012 18:11

ds1 (3.3yo) isn't allowed to get up (other than going to the toilet) until 7am and he has a gro-clock so he knows the right time as he's too young to tell the time yet. I'm a bit late to the party so sorry if this is something you've already tried Blush

carrotsandcelery · 20/03/2012 18:25

Our situation is very complicated. Ds knows the time as he has an LED clock beside his bed which he can read. He knows the expectation is that he stays in his bed until 6am. The difficulty is that while he lies in his bed he has scary thoughts and on a bad morning will "hear" voices. Getting up and doing noisy things distracts him from the thoughts and drowns out the voices.

What we are trying to achieve is him distracting himself with the cd player and drawing as they don't disturb everyone else.

The hope is that he will eventually learn to drop back off to sleep (he did actually do this one day) and that with enough sleep he will be less prone to the thoughts and voices.

Does that make sense? It is a bit of a vicious circle.

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 20/03/2012 19:23

Yes it makes sense. Oh your poor ds :(

I know only too well as an adult how anxiety attacks can make you feel in the small hours so I really sympathise. Glad your chart seems to be working - even if he isn't going back to sleep (yet) at least he is content enough not to wake you which is great as it's obviously helping him cope with it.

liveinazoo · 20/03/2012 19:42

i am stunned that as i "slept in" i feel socialable tonight...talk to me!!!!!Smile

carrots mine are still not sure about time-dd2(8) has itdown for half and hours,ds(6) not a clue..if little zoo wakes before 6 and i tell her to go back to bed she will often ask me to lay with her or sleep with me...she rarely nods off again but likes the snugggles

liveinazoo · 20/03/2012 19:50

carrots if you fancy a different banana muffin recipe i have a lovely banana and choc chip one...no other sugar than the bananas and chocolate.i make them now and again as a treat.if you want the recipe just hollerSmile

oh and before i forget get your house in order.thursday @ 8pm on channel 4

hope thatl remind you bessie to set to record and any other flyers that were interested
