Flinging our way through the chaos: February’s Fledgling Flyers

LinzerTorte · 31/01/2012 08:38

Welcome to the February edition of the Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If you're living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome), this is the thread for you! We follow the tips on the FlyLady website in an attempt to restore order to our homes, but advise against signing up for the e-mails; all the information you need is on this thread.

Each day, I'll be posting the links that will enable you to do any of the following:

  • start or repeat babysteps
  • repeat babysteps and do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More information about the babysteps is here.

So please join us - there's always plenty of chat, Brew, cake, encouragement and the occasional Wine to help us on our way!

Good morning.

So much good advice on the thread.

Very nice to wake up and find i did today's mission yesterday. I am absolutely shattered today. But still have stuff that HAS to be done before tomo. Really cba though. I also must be ready to leave to collect ds in a couple of hours too.

pick up forms
drop off forms
find and read paperwork about tomo.
make pancakes
make sure don't break the food rules for tomo (nil by mouth from 8pm I believe but need to check)
make sure ds' school stuff is already to go - uniform/bag.
find meds and sort out.

there is other stuff but that is the must do stuff.

BitchyNoMore · 21/02/2012 10:08

Envy the luxary of this being possible Toffee. bastard allergies
Pancakes that are make with not cows milk milk don't taste like proper pancakes. Though ds doesn't know that. Still cba to make two batches though.

BitchyNoMore · 21/02/2012 10:09

*made not make Blush

ChitChatFlyingby · 21/02/2012 10:20

Mummy - you poor thing, sounds horrible. Glad it?s not an ulcer though.

Swan - could you divide up your space? Then if your space is decluttered and looking nice and his isn?t, maybe it would give him some incentive to declutter. You?d need to be ruthless about not letting him encroach on yours or ?family? space though.

Feetheart and Toffee -Yes, I know I overdid it. Paying for it this morning too! Just sitting here having a bit of a rest and will take it easy this morning, promise!

Toffee - if you?re not sure what you should be covering with DS1 school work wise, maybe have a look at the teaching guides on the Department of Education website. www.education.gov.uk/schools/teachingandlearning/curriculum/secondary

Dedalus - enjoy your week with your DH!

Well I completely exhausted myself yesterday. I have a few child free hours this morning and I?m sitting here with a cup of tea, on my laptop, resting. I have to go out this afternoon so I don?t know whether I?m going to manage to get anything done, but, who cares?!

(limited) to do list (See, I am doing as I?m told!)

DSs to school and nursery done
Sit on laptop with a cup of tea and rest doing rather nicely right now! Grin
15 minutes in kitchen
Remake DS1?s bed and wash bedding (Why after being dry for so long do we get 2 wet nights in a row??!!)
Get myself ready to go out for the afternoon
Collect DS2 from nursery and drop off to ChildMinder

laurenamium · 21/02/2012 10:26

Morning! I'll be back later to catch up just a list!

To do:
Laundry *1
Hoover later
Food shop
Get baby toys out of loft and clean them all
Today's and yesterday's missions
Room rescue my room

BBL!

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2012 10:28

Bitchy - am out of date with this thread. What are you having done tomorrow? So many poorly people on this thread at the moment Sad.

ChitChat - glad you are resting today. It's what your body needs. Thanks for the link - I'll check that out later.

scattyspice · 21/02/2012 11:33

Hope you make it out with DS1 today toffee .

Glad you're pacing yourself chitchat

I have been busy:
laundry done
beds done
hooverdone
mopdone
dustdone
sainsburys
Tel Mumdone
consider pancakes

I have been chatting to Mum. The school coach crash in France at the weekend, killing a teacher was from the Middle school that i went to 30yrs ago in the Village where Mum still lives Sad. The poor teacher had been at the school 30yrs I remember him as a 20something new teacher. He was due to retire in April SadSadSad.

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2012 12:26

That's awful, scatty. Just awful Sad.

Lauren - sorry, I x-posted with you earlier. Hope you are feeling ok (as well as can be expected, anyway). Good that you are keeping busy!

I have a 'ta da' list:

Read 'Holes' by Louis Sachar to DS1 this morning. He said he had a sore throat and couldn't read out loud to me Hmm, but I enjoyed reading it to him anyway. One of the perks of having children is having an excuse to read good children's fiction Smile.

Finally put Xmas decorations away Blush. To be fair, it is a huge effort, which involves dragging DS1's bed away from the cupboard door, then wrestling with various boxes inside the cupboard to make room.

Tidied up behind and under DS1's bed whilst I was there.

Hoovered behind and under DS1's bed and the rest of his room.

Various e-mail exchanges with DS1's school. Meeting booked in for next week. Am hoping they are going to sort out the schoolwork for him, so that I can get some paid work done for a change.

DS1 is now doing some work on BBC Bitesize (at least I hope he is), whilst I cook him scrambled eggs for lunch. I haven't broken it to him yet that he is going for a little walk after lunch, ChitChat. He's not going to like it.

Have just had my Dymo Personal Label Maker delivered Grin. Read about it on the personal organisation thread, resisted buying one for about a week, then gave in. Am going to label EVERYTHING!

NickNacks · 21/02/2012 12:54

Morning people! Sorry RL has got in the way again.

Ta da list

Dropped and school and collected mindees
Charity shop drop 3 boxes
Town to pay some holiday off
Nursery run
Lunch

To do list

Parent/ teacher consultation
Dinner
Pancakes
Empty dw
Xmas decs away ^inspired by someone up there and in same position as they have to go away in a built in cupboard covered by bedroom furniture
Finish paperwork envelopes for parents
Call mum
Mission

NickNacks · 21/02/2012 12:58

It was Toffee who inspired me!! Sorry couldnt see whilst I was typing!

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2012 13:04

Well done with the Xmas decorations, NickNacks Grin.

Doing boring phone calls next, but will feel better for doing them...

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2012 14:38

Phone calls done.

Achieved short walk with DS1 (the promise of ice cream at the end of the walk seemed to help him overcome his anxieties).

Just off to tackle our bedroom.

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2012 14:39

Oh, also laundry in tumbledrier, dishwasher loaded and clean laundry taken upstairs.

scattyspice · 21/02/2012 14:45

Well done toffee I guess its about taking babysteps with DS1 too.

GO Toffee and Nicknacks for putting your Xmas decs away!!!

I have made pancake batter, in the fridge ready to go when DS back from choir.

swanthingafteranother · 21/02/2012 16:04

done
afternoon at school library reading aloud, I feel knackered now
long wait at dr am
ds2 inhaler from pharmacy - he is short of breath since virus, so dr recommended inhaler
ordered EHIC card ds1 for school trip abroad, feeling worried about this now since the crash. Scatty that's awful. Imagine remembering hm as a young teacher too Sad One of children at Ds school in year above was killed in a car crash on holiday abroad at half term, ds finds it an overwhelming thought that this person he knew (not particularily well) in school setting has just GONE.

todo
pile of wet washing on floor
and veg to unpack
dd to take to piano lesson, and practise before we go Blush

we've been invited to pancake party round corner, soo don't want to go, but will see if I revive by 6pm. I'm good at pancakes in the privacy of my own home, in all shapes and sizes, but thought of having to make merry outside the home is not an appealing one..

Was about to say what's for dinner no idea, but of course it can be pancakes Confused

Now, I have to wait for ds to come back in floods of tears about his detention or otherwise, just hope he did the wretched essay in school and I don't have to have anything more to do with it.. Ironically a poem about being punished by a teacher... from pupil's point of view.

Toffee I'm not surprised it is all a bit much at moment, there's something very lowering about having to fight to get the smallest babystep (child wise I mean) off the ground, but still YOU DID IT, and he went out. And that's a start. He must be feeling absolutely shattered and exhausted by fighting on so many fronts with his emotions, so I suppose it's nice to get him back into normal (well in our family they will go far for an icecream!) patterns. Tbh no-one wants to leave the house here either: I think we are all holding our breath suspended for spring. Dh says it will be 15 on Friday (muttering angrily of course the while, as if this was NOT RIGHT and the seasons were out of kilter, wretched UK etc)
Now if I can just bribe dd to go to her piano lesson, she is now glued to the sofa.

BitchyNoMore · 21/02/2012 17:51

hmm list update:

pick up forms
drop off forms - forgot to take with me, lovely mum says she will do tomo for me.
find and read paperwork about tomo.
make pancakes lovely mum made them.
make sure don't break the food rules for tomo (nil by mouth from 8pm I believe but need to check)
make sure ds' school stuff is already to go - uniform/bag.
find meds and sort out.

Talk to lovely mum about what needs doing for the next couple of days whilst i am on a different planet.

toffee - they are taking the bastard wisdom tooth out thank fuck but it has to be under a GA. tbt more than a bit nervous about it. But it will be fine.

I feel like crap today. Have ds back and he doesn't look too great either. He came in and curled up on sofa and hasn't moved since. Which I wouldn't think anything of other then the fact normally he is a terrible fidget and he is just lying there under a blanket being calm and still Hmm I think early nights all around. going to be a early start and a long day. Suppose on a plus note i shall be sleeping most of it Hmm

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 21/02/2012 18:09

TA DA
Up, showered hairwashed and dried and dressed to shoes/slippers
bathrooms swished and swiped, DW emptied and restacked.
2 loads of laundry done
Called dog food people as they delivered me the wrong food. Hmm Organised uplift and new delivery for tomorrow... no idea if I will be in or not though as have to drop off DD at her school residential place.

Organised DD clothes to take away with her

cleaned DR floor and kitchen floor. (one of the dogs is still poorly) - if I could just add I have washed the floor at least 3 times today. Sad

Had a little trip around the M25 to take my Mum to her sisters, will collect on Friday and bring her back here.

Made dinner.

Now quite tired.

bitchy Ive had all my wisdom teeth out under GA as they were impacted and it was worth it. Stock up on some nice soups and easy to eat food that doesnt require chewing or you to open your mouth too much.

Will try to catch up on everyones news once DC are in bed. Once life is back to normal next week I will be more able to keep up with personals. ((wee hug for all)

ToffeeWhirl · 21/02/2012 19:25

Bitchy - I had my wisdom teeth out under local and was surprised by how little bruising and discomfort I suffered afterwards. Cross fingers it's the same for you. At least you won't be suffering the tooth ache anymore. Good luck with it all.

Swan - yes, the 'babysteps' principles apply to DS1 too. I am crossing my fingers that the meds are beginning to work, because his initial "I can't" was so swiftly followed by "Can I have ice cream if I come?" - I don't think ice cream would have been enough to get him out a week ago.

Have you booked your place on the workshop, btw? I have a meeting with the school next week. Not sure whether to tell them I'm applying for a statement or not.

jax - well done on two loads of laundry. I struggle to manage one Blush.

My afternoon ta da is:

Helped DS1 build his new 'Friends' Lego set. He is blissfully oblivious to the fact that it is marketed at girls Grin. We have built the cafe together and he had a lovely time playing with 'Andrea' and 'Marie'.

Tidied our bedroom!!!! Now looks presentable enough for stove men to trapse in there tomorrow should they need to.

Cooked dinner for various children

Now about to heat readymade pancakes and get DS2 to bed. Am on the Wine.

Lifebeginsatforty · 21/02/2012 21:10

Toffee I am fascinated as to why you may have the stove men in your bedroom tomorrow Wink. Well done on going for a walk with DS1. Hope the babysteps continue tomorrow.

Hope you have a smooth and quick recovery after tomorrow Bitchy.

Well, I managed to get the house in some semblance of order today, with the help of the timer and my DD, inbetween entertaining said DD. Still lots to do before cleaner comes in the morning.

Be back tomorrow at some point. Waves to everyone I've missed.

BlueEyeshadow · 21/02/2012 21:28

It's been a bit of an odd day here with DS1 very tired and grumpy. I've done no flying beyond the most basic of routines but tomorrow they're at the CM so should hopefully catch up a bit on the house bleugh. We've had lots of pancakes, savoury and sweet, though. :)

Good luck for tomorrow Bitchy.

Toffee - glad you managed to get out and well done on tidying the bedroom!

Swan - hope the pancakes go well wherever you have them.

Honu · 21/02/2012 21:45

Rant alert!!

DH kept faffing about with the computer and dinner was getting on for an hour late because he just wasn't ready. Then he clumsily knocked it all over the floor. Couple this with 'accidents' and complete bed stripping and floor scrubbing the last two nights and I shouted at him. He is now all upset and 'I'm only a nuisance to you' ish and I have just got fed up and come downstairs. I'm not a natural carer - children are fine but this just isn't what you look for in a life partner. So I'm ready for something very strong in the naughty corner bar please!

OK - rant end.

ChitChatFlyingby · 21/02/2012 21:50

Just a quick update:

After the school and nursery run I came home and went back to sleep for a few hours!!! Blush But I really needed it.

Went to my afternoon appointment, picked up boys fom CM then home to cook dinner for DH and myself, after taking him to the out of hours GP (Yes, now he's fallen sick, but with a big ear infection).

Should do some tidying, but just going to get an early night and hit the cleaning tomorrow instead.

ChitChatFlyingby · 21/02/2012 21:50

Bitchy - meant to say I hope tomorrow goes well!

LinzerTorte · 21/02/2012 22:23

Apologies for lack of personals tonight but I've only just finished work and am utterly exhausted.

Tomorrow's links:

The babystep is to continue working on your control journal.

The mission is to tidy up the floor of your wardrobe and declutter your shoes.

Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day.
