Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

Rowing Happy Birthday - there are loads of people around Mumsnet with birthdays today and tomorrow. Grin

oh, forgot to say, I've found a great way of cleaning hot spots!

DS can now reach a fair few of them (dining room table, hall table) so he pulls everything off it and drops it on the floor.

Never been so tidy! Grin

  • Ring second supply agency for update
  • Washing - at least 3 loads needed
  • check online at job updates

Right back to it

oopslateagain · 07/09/2011 11:29

Hello everyone! Can I join in? I keep meaning to get on top of all the housework and I am the world's best List Maker And Organizer... but all I end up with at the end of the day is a messy house and a load of lists! I need the proverbial kick up the jacksy to get me going. Far too addicted to Mumsnet computer time.

I actually did Flylady not long after DD was born, it turned my house from a complete tip into somewhere I could actually invite people into, which was lovely, and I haven't quite gone back to something How Clean Is Your House would feature... but it's close! Wink

I have read back over the last couple of pages and you all sound fab!

This morning ... I have Shined my Sink. [proud emoticon]

CindersInGrottyMansion · 07/09/2011 11:34

feetheart · 07/09/2011 13:19

Tummy rumbling, must be lunchtime :)

Rowing - HAPPY BIRTHDAY - def a no Flying day.
P2 is equivalent to Yr1 here so we have DS's of similar age - I still struggle with converting my simple P1-P7 school years to the English version, and as for high school - argh. At least DD is 3 years away from that.
I am usually an earlybird but not that early! Did get back to sleep after writing a list and doing a few things on it. Will be aiming for an early night tonight though.

PA - GrinGrin at chicken, wouldn't the pigeon-poking broom work? (sorry to more recent folk, harking back to story from way back that made me cry laughing :o)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you for tomorrow. Are we allowed to know what the exciting adventure is yet or are you waiting until after the interview - I have been speculating for weeks :)

oopslateagain - welcome and well done on shiny sink - baby steps remember :)

Fuzzled - how old is DS?
Top tip would be to get him involved, give him a duster/damp cloth/hoover. My DS loved helping and got so good he would hoover the stairs whilst I cleaned elsewhere - I actually have photos of him mopping the kitchen floor and hoovering the stairs with his leg in plaster so he was about 3.6 at the time Shock He also loved emptying the washing machine and would run to it whenever it beeped as it finished a load. I encouraged him as much as possible :o
Not only did I miss his company when he went to school last year but I had to do much more housework myself!

MC - will have a think re yeast-free things. I have to go completely yeast/sugar free occasionally and seem to live on homemade soda bread. Sometimes the things we crave/like the most seem to be the ones that we end up being intolerant of :(

messy - Angry at your DP. Glad GP was supportive though, good luck with new regime, hope it works for you.

Ta Da so far:

  • All up and out
  • S&S
  • Washing x 2 done but not out. I second hanging it out in all seasons, no tumble drier here so need to use nature as much as possible. I do work at home though so can dash out to haul it in again if necessary
  • Met new head teacher who was introducing herself to all and sundry this morning. She seems friendly so came back and re-wrote part of email I had drafted.
  • WORK - caught up on lots but bank website won't let me get statement so can't do bank rec......shame :)
  • Builder been and gone. Need to scan A3 plans on A4 scanner and email them to him

To do:

  • Lunch
  • Lots of phone calls/emails re Autumn Fayre - need to work through the list I drew up in early hours.
  • Hoover a bit more - didn't get that far yesterday
  • Dinner - Macaroni cheese I think (must buy salad)
  • Ironing pile of doom

Onwards............................

messymammy · 07/09/2011 13:53

OK my tada list so far is:
get dressed done
dishwasher (empty, reload and put back on and empty again) done
empty wm and put on more washing done
do 3 loads of laundry 2 loads done so far
tidy dd1s room (yes again!!!) never did this the other day later with dd1
tidy kitchen table and hotspots (mantlepiece, shelves, above washing machine and microwave) mantlepiece and shelves done
Defrost quiche to give friend for lunch on Thursday in fridge
Tesco for blackcurrant juice, salady bits for lunch after collecting dd from school
Colect prescription when at tesco

Sorry for no personals, have to leave to collect dd1 now in few so rushing to get ready :)

BlueEyeshadow · 07/09/2011 14:13

Party survived. The birthday boy is asleep, DS1 is playing CBeebies games on the laptop. Better go and interact with him in a bit...

Happy birthday Rowing - a good day for it! :)

swanriver · 07/09/2011 14:16

messy don't mention Clearasil. I was a spotty teen. I'm sure the Clearasil made it worse.
It is frustrating when they say "Go out and Enjoy Yourself" and then you come back to all the things have have not been done, and wonder whether it is worth going out at all...Hmm

Feet my mum used to make homemade lemonade! Otherwise not a cook at all! So we always drank cloudy with pips! Delicious with guinness as shandy.

done
despatched three children to schools. Ds2 in distracted mood.
coffee here with friends to discuss secondary school angst Grin
then trudged off in search of watches, watch batteries, new ss school locker padlocks (bought three sizes just to be on safe side.) dw powder, loads of food. Slightly carried away in the hardware shop buyign different kinds glue, bolts, bicycle repair kits...well you never know...
Now officially knackered again

Need to clean kitchen, sink is apalling
put supper in slow oven
put away laundry
sweep hall
put away food shop

This getting up at 7am lark is tiring Blush
Put a apiece of paper in Ds1's knapsack with written instructions about where and when we were to meet. Under clock at bus stop [stern] no excuse for not knowing time.

substantiallycompromised · 07/09/2011 14:43

Helllooooo everyone!!

[In response to Messy's request, SC clambers in to confessional box, dons tan tights and waves a dispensational feather duster about] (Being a Holy Roller myself I'm allowed to joke about this btw! Wink)

Sorry - bit of a frantic morning to put it mildly.

This week is the start of all new parascolaire activities for dd, requiring all new bits of kit that I thought I already had but apparently don't. (Latest list is equipment for cookery classes at school - first dish = eggy bread and I am secretly yearning to buy her a wicker basket with an elasticated cover that goes over the handle like I had at school! Does anyone else remember them? Probably showing my age here.]

More significantly, baby-sitter couldn't make it again (dc don't go to school on Wednesday afternoons here) so have had to juggle work around and it's all a bit seat of the pants instead of the smooth Flying start I had hoped to have this week. Never mind eh.

RowingBoat wishing you many happy returns of the day!! Hope you have a good 'un and a lovely lunch out.

Feetheart arf at Autumn Fayre anxiety dreams (poor you) and white lemonade story. Hope you don't dream about 8 pint teapots tonight!! We had Iron Bru. Aw at your ds mopping with leg in plaster.

[SC pauses to proffer extra blankets and Brew to Cinders] Don't think about Flying until you are better.

A very warm welcome to Oopslateagain You sound exactly like me! I often have pristine lists but a far from pristine house! If you've already done it before, it probably won't take as much effort as you think to turn it around again - it's the starting that's the hard bit!

Good luck with your list MC. Have your rings turned up yet? I've lost my much-loved fountain pen. It disappeared on the day we left on holiday (didn't pack it as far as I am aware) and I'm worried I've done something stupid like thrown it away by mistake. Like you, thought it would have turned up by now.

Fuzzled your ds can come and sort out my hotspots any time! Good luck with everything - it is hard trying to Fly with a lo. And particularly testing while they are in that testing transmisison period between afternoon nap and staying up all day. Don't know if these are any help here and here???

Messy glad the doc's appt. went well and ggrrr on your behalf at your dp, pate on brown bread a lovely touch! My dh has taken to laying his dirty socks across the top of a chest of drawers I use as a dressing table resulting in rather unpleasant vapours when I blow dry my hair .... It's less than five strides to the bathroom panier for heaven's sake!

Great to have you back PA Arf at your chicken who "won't be helped". Perhaps she's in denial Grin??? Mahoosively busy over at yours as usual I see. I'd be happy if I got through your 'before work' list by the end of the day!

Waves to fellow owl Ouch. Great to hear your ds has had such a good start to the new term!

Great to hear about your dd too Ellie. Don't fret. You can only do what you can do and you are doing a lot.

CheerYank yes, visitors are great motivators ..

Coostoonettle hope your roof survived intact and that you got back to sleep!

Oh Swan that's quite a tough start to the school term your ds is having what with coping with his cast and lugging books about. I hope he has a better day today.

Blue I was wondering how it went!! Hope it all went well and a good time was had by all!!

Swan I adore home-made lemonade. Not quite the same but first stop on trip to UK = M&S prawn sandwich washed down with their cloudy lemonade. Delicious!

Hope the 'interception' goes well this afternoon ...

Today has been hectic and i have a tada list

Up dressed, dc breakfast and dressed all ready including teeth Blush by 7.50 Shock dropped dd off at nursery, thought she might be abit funny as ds was there dropping off but not staying
Put my duvet in wash.
Off to work with ds in tow. Between customers coming to door, staff coming to do, catering job in kitchen, funeral wake in club, power needing to reset following a tree falling down on nearby field, one of mil animals pooing in the office, the dog trying to make a run for it, banking and my darling ds saying mum mum mum every 20 seconds I was surpirsed to get anything done.
Cursed DH whom i had to ring re work at 10am to find him still fast asleep in hotel and decidedly hungover Angry
took ds to morrisons for kids eat free only realising after ordered that they dont until after 4 Hmm
picked dd up from nursery
put away huge ironed clothes pile
Put duvet in dryer to dry, Still there, bed at 3am i think!!
Emptied out fridge of food not wanted so almost did mission
harvested green tomatoes, ton of pears and apples from trees
wrapped surplus pears in greaseproof paper. Dont know why Grin
laid out clothes for ds and dd

still to do
Make bed once duvet dries
accept very late ocado order and put away.
Go to bed.

bye bye for now.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/09/2011 21:16

Evening all,

Not too much Flying to report, as I have organised my brand new weekly plan so I don't have to do too much on my work days of Tues/Weds/Thurs, but have done morning routine, evening routine apart from bedtime stuff and I just need to shower and relax, having just got back in from my run.

Also (drum roll) got up at 6.30 to do the Shred. I am so not an early riser, this is totally unprecedented, but it meant I was up and about and able to get straight on with my Flying, if I keep this up for a month I'll either be collapsed with exhaustion or converted to early rising.

Rowing - Happy Birthday
Nettie that sounds like a very busy day, I also harvested my green tomatoes, going to do that thing of sticking them in a paper bag with a banana, as kindly suggested by my SIL.

Whoever put on their list "book smear test" the other day, thank you, it reminded me to book mine too (this thread is useful in SO many ways).

SC - thank you for your briliant roundups, the thread is busy this month and you are doing very well.
Swan - glad DS turned up OK
Feet - went past the Maison Blanc patisserie today in town and noticed bottles of lemonade in every colour of the rainbow

Right, I can feel my leg muscles seizing up as I sit here, think I'd better make it a warm bath and not a shower. Night all.
