Welcome to the September 2011 Fledgling Flying thread! Hang up your microfibre cloths and park your buckets here!!

[Sorry - I've namechanged again - but remain SC]

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here )

Humungous thanks to our previous thread leader Blue for navigating us all through the August school holidays...and for doing it so consistently and well!!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. Some of us (SC stares at feet) -are even embarrassingly stuck at decluttering stage after two years Blush

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

All newcomers welcome!

I'll just try that zone link again here Hope it works this time ...

madwomanintheattic · 06/09/2011 23:06

didn't have time to post this morning and was oot too late last night to catch up Blush so apols all.

but ta daaa!

finished cv
applied for three jobs and a voluntary position
ds1 paed appt
laundry
ironing (partial ta daaa, ain't no way it's over...)

still to do (not quite nesbit as it's only 4pm here!):

dd2 dance class
pharmacy to collect ds1's stuff
update committee info sheet
e-mail ref website

and for tomorrow's list:

laundry
fundraising stuff
whatever the babystep is (haven't looked yet)

it has been hot here today. and i got sunburnt yesterday!

CheerfulYank · 06/09/2011 23:11

I didn't do much today, tbh. First day back at work/school so getting myself and DS fed, teeth brushed, and out of the house by 7:30 is enough of an accomplishment for today.

Also, it looks like FIL is going to be watching DS for 1.5 hours every Monday at our house. This is a bad news/good news situation.

Bad news: I only ever really clean when someone is coming over. So I will be running around every Sunday tidying up.

Good news: I only ever really clean when someone is coming over. So I will be running around every Sunday tidying up.

:o

substantiallycompromised · 06/09/2011 23:25

I see it has been a day for counting hot-spots [SC looks shifty and falls strangely silent] and rating Dysons (I don't have one but I've used my ma's and found it very heavy)

Lots of shredding and lashing and mizzling have been going on too
Can I add binding and flogging to latter definition please?

Hope everyone's dc made it home on new/unfamiliar bus routes safely

OK, here goes ...

Haunted has conquered her laundry so thoroughly that she can't list it 'to do' on her 'to do' list!! (Hope you catch up on sleep tonight)
Blue has been e-baying and continuing with the party prep
Whoknows has been eating Ryvita (and pancakes) and pondering the nature of hot-spots (mine are definitely the clear and immediately fill up again variety)

MC is feeling below par and has found out she is yeast intolerant Sad. [Had a quick google and came up with this I know it won't be easy but the good news is that you can eat rice and potatoes ... Hope you start to feel better soon x]

Yay! PA has popped in to mark her spot for the morrow!

Coostoonettle has coped admirably despite a bit of a mix up over school starting dates (and no, I haven't got a handle on detailed cleaning either Blush)
Ouch is in hiding after a stressful day but is all set for tomorrow
Fuzzled has been hiding in the loo Smile
RowingBoat has been washing floors, tending plants and braving blustery weather (good to know I am not the only one experiencing homework confusion)
Swan has been pondering building and glazing regulations (an emphatic 'yes' to needing half architect/half engineer- if only that rare breed existed) and stalking her ds to ensure he didn't fall in a puddle
Feetheart has been intriguing us with mentions of white lemonade and has been doing a post-holiday house reclamation
Prudense has been giving up stimulants, er, and depressants
Messy has resurrected and conquered her Nesbit list from yesterday! Well done!
Linzer had a 5am start and has generally been mahoosively busy and snowed under with work
CheerfulYank has returned to work after 3 months off (hope first day back going well!)
Silvery has been snuggling in bed with her ds
And MissJ has popped back to say hello and is trying to bridge gaps in her kitchen

Oh dear, sorry, middle-aged brain tonight. Took me so long to type that it will probably be out of date by the time I post but here goes anyway ...!!

SC commiserate over homework (I am blessed at least that our's is not in Flemish)
Ds1 has a fiendish new homework diary which has to be signed by both parents (how dare they said DH we could be divorced - yes...Hmm with a section for parental communication. Am I allowed to write things in that box like please don't let my poor little son carry heavy textbooks...no I suppose not...Today he was meant to cover an exercise book with sticky back plastic for his homework but as we didn't have any I didn't sign. Nooo you have to sign that I've done it. But, er.. you haven't???Confused Muum, don't you understand the exercise book isn't due back till Monday, but you have to sign the diary.

Today he was caught in serious lashing rain, cue complete breakdown when he returned home as his cast got wet (Wicked Witch of West Syndrome], he was tired from carrying books around and kept droppign them, locker padlock too small, and he was late for registration due to chatting in corridors, and he had again decided to get off at the wrong stop due to chatting with friends, thus missing his kind mum who was waiting at right stop with an umbrella. It was lovely to give him a big hug and help him calm down a bit, and see him start to smile again and admit he had basically had a good day..Tomorrow he promises he will get off at the right stop!!!!Third time lucky.

How was your son's day Toffee? My ds is finding organisation hard, but he likes the buzz (I think).

coostoonettle · 06/09/2011 23:35

Goodnight sc thanks for round up

The wind is howling and being the only so called adult in the house to deal with howling wind monsters is a bit dauntingHmm

Been in bed for hours now and keep dropping off then having oh what's that moments!

Night all Grin

swanriver · 06/09/2011 23:39

Feetheart R White's R Whites Lemonnnade - I'm a Secret Lemonade Drinker. Is that what you refer to, or was it somethign more specific? In my youth there was a craze for pourign white lemonade on shop bought vanilla icecream, can't remember whether that was in Ireland or England though as I was in both places at once.
MC from what I understand grapes and wine/beer have natural yeasts

CheerfulYank · 06/09/2011 23:56

SC no, he's not really a "noticer". But my mother was so houseproud that I just physically cannot not tidy before someone's coming over. It's completely ingrained in me!

That will be nice though; I do like the way my house looks when it's tidy and I have lots more energy, so I am choosing to look at it in a positive light. :)

feetheart · 07/09/2011 02:51

Awake due to Autumn Fayre 'things' going round in my head so have got up, written a list, eaten a large cookie, ordered some things from Baker Ross and researched 8 pint teapots!!
Now catching up and going back to bed as need to accomplish lots on above list tomorrow and work and see another builder re extension.

Re white lemonade (not R Whites Swan though I remember that ad!) - think it might just be a Norn Irn thing. We have red lemonade, brown lemonade and white lemonade. Don't think there is much difference apart from vast quantities of artificial colouring (not an expert here as don't really like fizzy drinks) however I caused MUCH confusion to myself and various English bar staff by the following discussion:
Me: Cointreau and white
Barstaff: White what?
Me (puzzled): Lemonade
Barstaff: What other colour is there?
Me (still puzzled): Red. Brown.
Barstaff: ????

Repeat in many situations until I found out that lemonade only comes in one colour here Confused

Best get back to bed.............................night all.

OuchPassVodka · 07/09/2011 03:24

No idea why can't sleep was stupid tired earlier. still up and considering just getting up and doing stuff. Might crash after ds goes to school.

CheerfulYank · 07/09/2011 04:00

OuchPassVodka · 07/09/2011 05:07

Now you say it Cheerful - you can get pink lemonade in sainsbury's and tesco's iirc it has grapefruit in it.

Morning all!

First day back went without event. Dd didn't cry at nursery and said she had the best time ever Grin. I will be amazed howevernif we get through the week without tears seeing as it took her 2 months to settle at pre school without them.

No flying to report as was whacked last night. Must....try...... Harder.

PositiveAttitude · 07/09/2011 06:50

Good morning ladies Grin

Hope you are feeling better soon Making changes. Dneice has a yeast allergy and she used to eat soooooo much bread, but feels tonnes better since leaving it out! Good luck with changing your bread habits, it will be worth it!

Is it your DS's birthday today BES? Happy birthday to mini BES, if it is! (Mine's tomorrow, so good time for birthdays!!)

I hope all the school runs are going ok and you are all getting back into the routine of it again. Toffee - how is DS doing?

Hello to some new names!

DS was woken up by a chicken on his windowsill this morning. Stupid creature is protesting loudly, seems stuck but wont let us "help" her. Its going to wake up the dead whole house any minute!

rowingboat · 07/09/2011 10:05

Hi everyone,
I can't believe how early you guys get up. Did you very early people go back to bed or are you that tough. Grin

So good afternoon! Grin

Swan our homework pales in comparison to yours. It sounds like rather a muddled day, how old is your DS1?

Positive that chicken sounds delightful, is it gone now? Don't give up on your washing line, it's amazing how dry things can get even in December. I had washing out in the snow. Harhar (crazed laugh)

SC thanks for the catch-up, that is so handy.

Cheerful back to work after 3 months, I hope they haven't moved everything to confuse you.
Our PILs now have to put up with the dust and rubbish because they drop in unannounced and I just gave up.

I am in Scotland so my DS has been back for 3 weeks now, but it was very emotional when he first went back (him, not me) talk about everything being a fight. He went into Primary 2, which is what you do when you are 6 up here, so now he has to do writing - 'aargh I hate writing mummy!' (not the word mummy, just general writing).

How are you all finding your LOs are coping with the return to school?

So it's my birthday and the Fly Lady can just fly off on her little broomstick, or vacuum cleaner until tomorrow.
Done
Did put the washing out.
Thought about 1 hotspot, but obviously I'm not tidying it today. Smile

OuchPassVodka · 07/09/2011 10:08

Erm i got up at 8am, i did not go to bed until 7am. I am NOT a morning person. i detest mornings. Nights on the othe hand... Grin

OuchPassVodka · 07/09/2011 10:10

Ds seems rather fond of his new teacher, refuses to be late and does homework without being asked. I am slightly scared. I want my ds back please. Hmm

messymammy · 07/09/2011 10:39

Hi all
Is there any room in the naught corner? "Forgive me SC for I have sinned, it is 2 days since my last FLYing..." I have been really bold again yesterday and done nothing.... Hmm

I was out last night for drinks with a friend and do you think dp did any cleaning? Just general tidying, not even cleaning? In fact just picking stuff up after it's been thrown on the floor? NO he did not. When I got up this morning (a teeney bit delicate, but mostly ok) there was a nappy on the floor by the couch, yesterdays clothes on the sitting room floor with all toys still out, brown bread with paté under the high chair in the kitchen, dishwasher clean but left there with dirty dishes left all around..... I am fuming, so have far more than usual to do, on top of being bold yesterday Angry Angry Angry

Soooooo, my list looks like this:
get dressed...
dishwasher (empty, reload and put back on and empty again)
empty wm and put on more washing
do 3 loads of laundry
tidy dd1s room (yes again!!!) never did this the other day
tidy kitchen table and hotspots (mantlepiece, shelves, above washing machine and microwave)
Defrost quiche to give friend for lunch on Thursday
Tesco for blackcurrant juice, salady bits for lunch
Colect prescription.

Oh yes forgot to mention how the doctor was yesterday....FAB! She didn't say "oh no, your skin isn't that bad" or "If you think this is bad acne have a look at this picture" or "But sure you are confident enough for it not to bother you", which are all things other HCPs have said about it. So the doctor gave me a prescription, and a regime to followc(cleanse and tone with La Roche-Posay products, dont use face wipes, stop using clearasil, only wear make up every second day etc), doesn't want to change the pill....Delighted. To go back and see her in 8 weeks if no improvement

So am off to shower, will be back when I've some progress made on the list :)

PS Happy Birthday rowingboat

rowingboat · 07/09/2011 10:44

Hi all,
Messy thank you! How lovely to find an old nappy lying around, I hope you didn't stand on it! Shock
Ouch you are hard core - 1 hour's sleep! I think your ds's new teacher has brainwashed the class, he'll be putting on the washing next.

Still no flying, but about to go to lunch with some lovely friends...
