It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/07/2011 14:32

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

Good grief Nettie - that's some ta-da list! Shock

And my guests are ladies (& boys from my ante/post-natal class) and everytime we go to one of their houses, it always looks immaculate to me so very much under pressure to match up! Confused

Living room is now done - kitchen still a tip as is the study as some sod of a telemarketer phoned and woke DS up - despite us being registered with TPS Angry he got short shrift from me. Grin

Ah well, that's what doors close for Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/08/2011 17:27

Just flying by to say hello from holiday in Scotland, not much Flying but we are managing to keep things tidied than we usually do, my parents are here too, so lots of stuff everywhere, I am definitely getting less tolerant of untidiness. have also brought Flylady book with me and I am finding it quite inspiring, even the testimonials. everyone has gone out at the moment, I am enjoying half an hour of peace and quiet (DPs and DH and Dcs like the Telly or radio on all day which drives me nuts). I am enjoying listening to the birds chirp and looking at a beautiful view over Loch Lomond with a nice cuppa and a good book, thanks to the MN book swap club. Speak soon.

Ihatecobwebs · 22/08/2011 22:11

Will post now, catch up later (or tomorrow)

Done
Morning routine
Breakfast - bread has gone off, so made pancakes
Plan week and write out week's daily lists
Washing on line
Make beds
Rest of morning at friend's while all DC were playing - good for DS but played havoc with my "routine"
Picked blackberries on way home
My lunch (DS was given lunch there)
Washing up
All bins and boxes in
WHBH
Washing in machine
Clean washing away
S/s
Cook tea - bolognaise in simmering oven
Allotment - picked blackberries on the way - harvested lavender, lifted small onions, dug carrots, picked green beans and raspberries, dug more of bed for autumn onions - came back a bit sudden like after DS was spat on by a red ant and really screamed!
More blackberrying on way home - not very successful, really just checking out where will be best this year
Picked runner beans and courgettes
Washing on airer
Tea
Dealing with the fruit and veg: raspberries into freezer, courgettes into fridge, blackberries into compote, blanch and froze carrots, green beans, runner beans, started prepping onions for pickled onions
Evening routine
Bag and food ready for work tomorrow

Will now head towards bed, and NOT write out the list of things which will have to be added to tomorrow's list!

BlueEyeshadow · 22/08/2011 22:19

Evening all. Hope everyone?s had a lovely Monday!

Toffee?s been packing, unpacking and repacking and gone on an epic train journey.

Silvery was aiming to get back on track

CHBDragons has successfully renewed her spirit but needed more caffeine. Here ? Brew! Well done on completing your list. Grin

wonderif joined us and had an engineer coming ? welcome!

Fuzzled was crisis cleaning for guests. You?ve earned it!

NickNacks snuck in from work to let us know about bargainous microfibre cloths.

Linzer is back at home and drowning in unpacking

ellie was preparing to enjoy sunshine and BBQ ? hope it all went well.

MC had a busy day. Hope your DH?s finger isn?t too bad.

feet was busy with work and the park was calling. Alcohol also does wonders for dull fruit!

Nettie got play dough out of the carpet and went to the beach ? sounds good! Yes, train trip was good. We saw the Thomas train on the Bure Valley railway from our ordinary train. We?ve done the BVR in the past but DSs don?t remember it so will have to go again some day.

SC popped in before finally getting off on holiday ? have a lovely time!

WhoKnows popped in from holiday and was enjoying the peace and quiet. Telly on all the time would do my head in too!

Cobwebs had a very impressive ta-da list!

We?ve had a lovely day in Cromer today but now DH is in a grump, we can?t get through to the restaurant we want to book for our anniversary on Thurs and I seem to have run up an enormous mobile bill by not getting my head round the price plan properly. :(

Not much flying planned for tomorrow either as I?ll probably be out with my parents and the boys most of the day. Need to do some shopping at some point. Not sure when?

Anyway, links:
Babystep: set your afternoon routine.
Mission (when it updates): skirting boards in master bedroom.

Night all.

Eyeballs are almost hanging outa my head now. Hope everyone had a good wkend.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 23/08/2011 03:14

Blue call me CHB or Dragons. No need to write it out in whole. tis pointless Wink

must sleep but seem to wake up every time i lie down. i suspect it is due to inactivity. but there is not alot i can do about it. hey ho. must try and get some stuff done tomo.

posting list now overly optomistic

laundry
car insurance
finish sorting ds' room
sand paintwork
prime paintwork
return major furniture.
gloss door frame.
early night.
avoid turning computer on until the evening.
tackle decluttering/cleaning my room. if enough energy

Fuzzled · 23/08/2011 07:22

First CHB have you tried audiobooks? - then you rest, but brain is occupied until you fall asleep Grin

So, guests are cancelled today Hmm
DS woke at 12am by banging his head off his cot and after the usual sprint to calm him before he screamed blue murder, I noticed I had a sore tummy.
2 hours later and it was off to the 24 hour supermarket for Milk of Magnesia Sad so have had no sleep.
Think it was really bad trapped wind, but was a bit ill so cancelled for safety.

This is why I never have guests - too much stress Sad

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2011 07:34

Morning all
Sorry I didn't come back yesterday. I read the round-up, but you are all far too chatty for me to read the whole day's posts in the evening!
I'm hoping to pop into London today to see the parents, but only if it's not raining when I want to leave the house at about 9:30/10.
I've written my list down on paper, will post it here later if I get time.
Not much going on, the usual, the mission and the ironing i didn't manage yesterday.
Happy FLYing

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2011 07:36

Fuzzled Hope you feel better soon and manage to get some rest today

NettieSpaghetti · 23/08/2011 07:53

Good morning.

fuzzled bummer about sore tummy and cancelling visitors. Hope you ok this morning. Least you have lovely clean house.

Dd in a strop as after choosing them has decided rice krispies are the work of the devil and she is not having them. Hmm

My list for today.

Get dressed
Sort out swim bags for lessons
Put chicken curry in slow cooker.
Take grumpy dd to hairdressers and ds to barbers
Buy new cover for phone other one had sand in it

Debate merits of going home Inbetween lessons, invariably end up staying and hanging around playpark for hour and half
Home sort laundry
Check dc rooms still tidy

Oh dear ds freaking out better go

Have good days everyone. See you later. Grin

Fuzzled · 23/08/2011 08:20

Have managed breakfast and now just feeling tired. Confused

DS also looking tired so going for a joint nap Grin

House is clean (except bathrooms Sad) so going to take a day off. Spag Bol from freezer for tea so don't need to do anything and DS will be on a jar Blush

N'night all Grin

PositiveAttitude · 23/08/2011 10:34

Hello ladies. Smile

RL has been a little hectic here for the last week. Just had a quick look up the thread, but sooooo much to catch up with. Lots of packing and unpacking going on, I see. Happy birthday to those I have missed too.

My excuse for going awol is that at the weekend we had an event at the church and I was in charge of the catering for 200 people. It all went well, but lots of work and I was knackered.
DH's birthday on Saturday, then he did a bike race on Sunday, which went really well.

Makingchanges · 23/08/2011 11:19

Morning all

PA - lol at your phone story. I wish I had people contacting me to say morning and invite me shopping and for coffee - Sounds lovely.
Fuzzled - Hope you managed to get some more sleep
Nettie Hope DDs mood improves and she stops stropping. DD is like that today as well
Silverymoon Enjoy London with your parents. I hope you get there and it doesn't rain
MissJulie Wow at all your unpacking. I hope you have an easier day today.

Well I didn't make it back on here yesterday as it was madness. Gym was good (Although paying for it today - Even lifting my arms a little hurts). Ended up spending 2 hours at fracture clinic but good news is no tendon damage so just a break. Got my bike (Yay) and had a quick ride up and down the road but this was all spoilt when dd feel off her scooter and grazed her knee. You would have through she had chopped it off or something.

Anyway today dd is wanting to be waited on hand and foot as she can't move her knee (very dramatic with any injuries my daughter) she wants carrying up and down stairs and won't get dressed. I'm not pandering to her and have left her to it but I think my patience will be wearing thin soon Hmm

Jobs to do today

  • Watch BFG before we have to take DVD back to video shop
  • Take DVDs back
  • Post office to post another book
  • Photo ebay items to sell
  • Get down the carpet cleaner and see if I can get it to work to clean the living room carpet.
  • List more things for sale
  • Clear out e-mail inbox that is now overflowing and hard to keep track of
  • 2 x washing
  • Update ipod with music from CD collection
  • work out finances for rest of month
  • take library books back to library
  • May start attacking dds toys - we need a big sort out as they are taking over

Right best get on. Back later

Fuzzled · 23/08/2011 11:25

Morning again Smile

Feeling much better now, but think Flying will take a back seat for today.

Oh and PA there was a bike ride round here at the weekend... Are you stalking me? if you mention a harbour festival too then I'm really going to worry Grin

CHBitchyIceDragons · 23/08/2011 11:30

Fuzzled - am not audio books would help. It's my brain being busy that is the problem. It is not prone to turning off. Training helps as it is so relaxing and that if you don't stop thinking you get hurt meaning that i finally get a break from the chaos that is my brain.

PA that definetly sounds like an interesting swap. Grin how long did it take for you to figure out what was going on?

Was watching a marvelous documentary on bb4 last night which basically stated that our existance was due to the chaos theory. And that basic mathematical formulas with feedback could be used to describe evolution. Thus life is regulation is fundamentally due to regimented patterns and complete chaos. I think this accurately describes this house hold. Ds is rediculously ordered and structured due to being aspie and liking it this way. Me, I am the apitomy of chaos. Its an interesting combination. Grin

Been resonably productive this morning considering the late start.

Done
bedding on to wash
matress flip and rotated
plants being watered (sat in bath tub of water soaking)
cook boiled eggs for breakfast.
start making tea but realised not got all the ingrediants needed.
Discover that somehow despite eating a load of rubbish that this pair of trousers are getting rather lose
stick another inch or two on scarf.
15mins in bedroom

Am currently in the process of setting up my ipod. tis only a nano but can't wait to have music i like when i am training for a change. Best of all i can shove it in my bra which means it wont get damaged during training. a definet bonus Grin all being well 10days Grin

LinzerTorte · 23/08/2011 12:01

CHB / Fuzzled I find that listening to Radio 4 podcasts is about the only thing that helps me get to sleep. I also have the problem of an over-active brain at night, but listening to a voice stops me thinking and sends me to sleep (music doesn't work) - with the added bonus that I get to hear at least part of some interesting programmes and don't feel frustrated that I'm lying awake.

CHB Have fun setting up your iPod - I can't imagine running without music.

MC Good news on the bike - I was lost when mine broke recently - but sorry to hear about your DD; hope your patience is still holding out!

PA Sounds like an interesting day on Friday. Grin I'm glad someone's enjoying the summer holidays - must admit I'm counting the days here!

Nettie The breakfast strop sounds all too familiar. Hope your DD has cheered up now.

Silvery Hope you managed to get to London.

Once again, very little FLYing going on here. I've been looking after the neighbour's three DC all morning; she's back from work now, but two of her DDs (plus two of mine) are still here. It's far too hot to do anything, although I did manage a 6 am run before DH left for work and while the heat was still bearable.

Have fed the DC, but there wasn't enough pizza for me as well so must go and see about my own lunch now.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 23/08/2011 13:03

Stupid time sucking technology i lied about it being a nano btw tis a shuffle Confused whatever it is, its tiny but seems to have sucked the will to live out of me and taken far far too long to set up. Stupid thing is that i am sure if i asked the 10yr old down the road to have sorted it out for me it would have been done in a fraction of the time with none of the swearing.

However, I have also managed to backup and clearout the laptop memory so tis all good in that respect. It has almost finish running the clean up/defrag routine and then i can shove it on to virus check before running the malware check.

I feel the need to go to the laundry just so that I actually achieve something today Hmm

Makingchanges · 23/08/2011 15:46

Updated list to keep me on track CHB I'm also with you on the ipod problems this afternoon. I'm ready to throw it through the window

Jobs to do today

  • Watch BFG before we have to take DVD back to video shop Done - DD loved it. Was afraid it would be too 'old' for her. She wants me to read her this and James and the Giant Peach now
  • Take DVDs back Done
  • Post office to post another book Done
  • Photo ebay items to sell
  • Get down the carpet cleaner and see if I can get it to work to clean the living room carpet.
  • List more things for sale
  • Clear out e-mail inbox that is now overflowing and hard to keep track of Done I now have only 10 'current' e-mails in my inbox - Its usually way up in the 100s
  • 2 x washing
  • Update ipod with music from CD collection - Grrrrrrrrrr I've loaded the albums onto itunes on my laptop but my iphone won't sync!!
  • work out finances for rest of month
  • take library books back to library Done
  • May start attacking dds toys - we need a big sort out as they are taking over

Just been to local shopping centre. It was full of grumpy, shouting, stressed people. I think mainly they were uniform shopping as two places for uniforms were extremely busy and full of shouty mums. It was horrible. I'm thinking dd can go in last years uniform, half-mast trousers are nothing compared to the stress of shopping for new Shock

Right DD is still sulking although leg is now a little better she informs me Hmm it looked fine when she was dancing around the shops so whilst she's already in a bad mood, I'm going to have an hour at attacking the toys.
Back later

CHBitchyIceDragons · 23/08/2011 17:10

Update list. Done
bedding washed and in process of drying
load of towels on to wash
matress flip and rotated
plants being watered (sat in bath tub of water soaking)
cook boiled eggs for breakfast.
start making tea but realised not got all the ingrediants needed.
Discover that somehow despite eating a load of rubbish that this pair of trousers are getting rather lose
stick another inch or two on scarf.
about 2 hours in bedroom
Move bedroom furniture about in a vain attempt to find a configuration that will work.
Paint nails
book tickets to craft fair and print.
sort car insurance
configure and transfer music to ipod.

Now all i have to do is figure out how to extract the music from my cd's and transfer between computers. Confused but that is soooo not a job for today.

About to go finish mak a lovely but high effort tea which will hopefully last 2 days. Hopefully will still have energy to do stuff later. Can't believe it is only Tuesday. feels like it should be much later in the week.

To Do tonight:
return room to functional state
make bed
early night.

So much else could be tackled if i could be bothered but it is not looking likely tonight. Might put a few more inches on the scarf as it is easy and lazy.

CHBitchyIceDragons · 23/08/2011 17:12

*making

noeyedear · 23/08/2011 17:27

I really have not got back in to the swing of this! I need to keep checking my babysteps etc! Still trying to do the morning and evening routine, managed to do the mission today without even looking- must be telepathy! Don't know how I'm going to manage doing my home blessing on Thursday as I have some stuff to do for work suddenly! Eek!

SilveryMoon · 23/08/2011 20:26

PA Grin sorry, but that trick your ds played on you and dd sounds very funny!
MC Hope your dd is ok
I did get into London today. We left here at 8:30 this morning. Not long been back. Was lovely day, the boys loved to see their grandparents.
We got very wet, but was good.
No FLYing here today and I'm certainly not going to do anything now, so will try to get back to it tomorrow.
