Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Tbh i dont know how much attantion he is getting when not working. When i asked him why he wasnt doing any work he told me it was because he was talking. i suspect that he might be being a bit distracting and disrupting. So a fairly typicaly silly little boy then.

I think that they need to move him is this continues and make him sit on his own to do the work. But i suspect that there is an element of perfectionism in there and he finds the writing practise hard and boring which is why he refuses to do it, and this is what is having a knock on effect on his other work. I reckon if we can sort out the writing bit he might focus a bit more. Although i could be wrong. This is the same child who reads A' level text books for fun Hmm

Going to see if the school are prepared to send his handwriting book home for him to catch up and if not will put in some work with the handwriting at home.

Stupid thing is he does write and is often writing but it has to be stuff that interests him. This is what makes me think he is just being stubborn about it.

Toffeefudgecake · 26/11/2010 12:10

Had my allergy tests yesterday and I am allergic to everything I was tested for. The very nice nurse agreed that I shouldn't do any housework (allergic to dustmites) Grin and that I should keep trying different wines to find out which ones didn't bring on asthma and sneezing Grin Grin.

But DH just laughed when I told him about the housework thing Angry.

So, today....

School run done
B/F, tea, newspaper and pills for MIL done
Phone my mum done Smile
W/M on done
Unload d/w
Reload d/w
Tackle pile of clutter on dining room floor (from cupboard that now has tumbledrier in it)
Lunch for MIL
Hair appt at 1pm
Return DVDs to library
Tumbledrier on
Wrap Xmas presents for Stepmum (seeing Sunday)
School run
Put dry clothes/bedsheets away
Dinner
Empty lunch boxes
Washing up
Wine & bed

Was a bit annoyed yesteday because when I came back from my errands in town (which included shopping for clothes for me Smile), MIL complained that she was hungry and I felt it was a definite dig at me for making dinner later. I had told her it would be later as there was no way I could collect the children from school, drop DS2 off at a friend's and get into town and back before 6. And it was the first time I'd been out shopping since she arrived, so I had a lot to do, including buying Xmas presents and her flipping birthday present. Anyway, I am escaping again today because I'm having my hair cut. Will be giving her lunch early so she doesn't get hungry! She is definitely on the mend. OK, rant over.

Namechange - I'm glad to hear you are feeling better today.

Right, duties call. Might try to check back later.

swanriver · 26/11/2010 12:30

old people can be very set in their ways Hmm
sandwiches on a platter?

wrapping nearly finished (PTA stuff only I'm afraid)

LinzerTorte · 26/11/2010 12:55

Bob I'm going to have to ban myself from MN for the whole of next week - I will be snowed under with work from Monday (but it may at least get me into the Christmas spirit: 63 pages of Christmas recipes to translate by the following Monday).

Toffee I'm also allergic to dust, but am not sure whether to use it as an excuse for not doing housework (my preferred option) or whether I should be extra vigilant about dusting! Tbh I only really notice my allergy at my parents' and ILs'. Not sure I could cope with being allergic to wine, though!

Just back from book exhibition at kindergarten; there were also refreshments available, which means I didn't need to worry about lunch - quite fortunate, as DD2 has two friends over to play and I am on the verge of giving up on feeding other people's children. (My own aren't great eaters, but I don't feel so bad about leaving them to starve if they refuse to eat dinner!)

This afternoon's list:

Afternoon routine
Finish unpacking shopping
Invoices x2
DS to gym club

But first need to have lunch; resisted the temptation of cake at kindergarten, but did buy some to bring some back home for dessert. Grin

DD2 has just handed me a note from the school doctor - we need to take her to the paediatrician's as she apparently has a heart murmur. No sooner do we have one health problem sorted out (my mole had abnormal cells so was completely removed, but the dermatologist now wants to see me every six months) than something else comes up...

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 26/11/2010 13:06

Linzer - oh dear poor dd2. But it is good that it has been spotted early. Something that needs an eye being kept on.

Ds has given me his cold so i am doing very little to try to avoide the dreaded steroids.

I am another one who suffers from dust allergy and find i need to keep it really clean. Atm it is going to make no difference as my poor immune system is shot to pieces and it is far to busy dealing with illness to consider allergies.

For those who didnt catch the threads last night, be glad they were fairly vile. As for me being a fanjo of the worse kind. Nah, i am a cold hearted bitchy thread tart. Grin But i am proud to be a member of two threads which provide huge amounts of support advice and kidness to their members. With humour and ass kicking as required along the way.

You are truely fabulous, and very suportive of each other. It is a pleasure to be on this thread. And one day i hope to even have a chaos tamed house WinkGrin

Hope you all have lovely days!!!!

loosinas · 26/11/2010 13:58

oh crikey... days and days of migraine and ear infeection equals MUCH BEHIND ON HOUSEWORK :(

someone kick me up the butt

DidEinsteinsMum · 26/11/2010 14:22

Nope no butt kicking from me. take it easy and there is no such thing as behind on housework. Just do a bit here and a bit there. Dont worry about the missions and babysteps you have missed. jump back on board where we are now and catch up next month when they come around again!!!!!!

Linzer you are very good at having friends round for the dcs - it is a gift to be such a nice hostess (even if they are troublesome to feed..I find other people's dcs very unpredicatable in that way, will eat things like Faijtas one minute and hate butter on their pasta the next - usually I try and avoid feeding anyone, very mean of me I know)

Having problems posting more than a sentence or two at the moment. Will be back once it's sorted itself out!

BobLoblaw · 26/11/2010 17:22

My ds is only just gaining any patience with writing Deck because he can do it now, if your ds is writing at home, I would just let him write what he wants.

Hope you bought lots of different wines to trial then Toffee Grin and had a relaxing time at the hairdressers.

I'll know who to go to for christmas recipes then Linzer ! I hope the Dr can put your mind at rest wrt dd2, and you can get an appointment quickly.

Will be mostly a non-flylady weekend as it's dp's best friends memorial service tomorrow, still need to find out whether it's black clothes etc but their family are not getting on well at all so it's rather chaotic and upsetting. This thread is so lovely and supportive, I'm very grateful :)

to Nettie, have a lovely time at the christmas party.

Toffeefudgecake · 26/11/2010 17:26

Linzer - children are often very fussy about food in other people's houses, not to mention their own. Try not to take it personally. My oldest son had a friend here once (when they were about 5) who told me, "We don't like your food" Sad.

Also, Linzer, my eldest son has a heart murmur too. It was checked out when he was about five and we were told that it was 'benign' and he would probably just grow out of it. It certainly never affected his energy levels (if only!). Hope the same applies to your DD.

Swan - you are right. MIL is used to lunch at 1pm and dinner at 5. Sandwiches on a platter is an excellent idea next time I'm going to be out beyond her dinnertime. Thank you. It's funny, isn't it, that both the youngest and oldest people need a strict routine? I feel as if my life is ruled by mealtime routines at the moment, thanks to my DC and my MIL. Gone are the days when DH and I used to snack when we felt like it.

Linzer and Did - I wonder how many other Flyladies are allergic to dust. Seems quite fitting, somehow. Am not giving up wine, no matter how much it makes me sneeze, though.

Today's list so far:

School run done
B/F, tea, newspaper and pills for MIL done
Phone my mum done
W/M on done
Unload d/w done
Reload d/w done
Tackle pile of clutter on dining room floor (from cupboard that now has tumbledrier in it) half-done
Lunch for MIL done
Hair appt at 1pm done
Return DVDs to library done
Tumbledrier on
Wrap Xmas presents for Stepmum (seeing Sunday)
School run done
Put dry clothes/bedsheets away
Dinner about to do
Empty lunch boxes
Washing up
Wine & bed

Also, must do an online shopping order.

Back later.

LinzerTorte · 26/11/2010 20:00

Managed to get three 5 minute room rescues done, all the washing put away and the rest of the shopping unpacked thanks to my problems with posting, so it wasn't all bad!

Toffee That's reassuring to hear that your DS's heart murmur is benign; I've no idea what it might mean for DD2 but have been trying not to google too much, so it's good to hear that it's something she might grow out of. Will try to make an appointment on Monday, anyway.
Also reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one producing seemingly inedible food for visitors! Glad to hear you're not giving up the wine, btw. Grin

Bob Hope your weekend goes as well as can be expected; it must be such a sad and difficult time for everyone involved. Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Nettie Ooh, are you going to a MN meet-up? Glad the card arrived OK.

swan Good idea to make a note in the calendar as to when DC's beds need changing; I tend to leave too long between changes. Blush

DEM Hope your cold is better soon. Was actually glad I missed those threads in the end, as it sounded (from another thread) as if things got quite nasty. One of the things I love about this thread is how supportive everyone is; tis indeed fabulous. Smile

Hope I'll actually be able to post this now...

MiniMarmite · 26/11/2010 21:22

Hi Ladies

Just wanted to pop in and say hello, but have not had time to catch up with the thread properly - I know that some of you are having a difficult time at the moment though and so thinking of you all.

DH went back to work on Wednesday and my Mum came over to help for a couple of days which was needed as both boys have had bad colds and DS1 has been a little star and not showing any signs of jealousy but really needed some mummy time.

Today was my first day on my own but it went pretty well really and feeling fairly positive but taking one day at a time and marvelling at how lucky I am to have my two boys!

Have a great weekend everyone xxx

DidEinsteinsMum · 27/11/2010 01:51

Hope you all have a lovely day. Grin

elliepac · 27/11/2010 08:41

Toffeefudgecake · 27/11/2010 12:12

LinzerTorte · 27/11/2010 12:23

It's been a very quiet morning here as the DDs are still at the friends' they stayed overnight with. DS has a cough and is very wheezy but seems OK in himself, so I'm wondering whether it could be allergy-related. He has an appointment at the lung specialist on Wednesday anyway, so we should find out more then.

I have written my first Christmas card! Not to be posted until next week, though. DH and I have been through the Christmas boxes this morning, got a few decorations and all the Christmas cards out and I have relocated my Christmas card list. I should probably make a start on the rest of my cards this weekend, at least the ones with which I want to enclose letters, as I won't have time for anything other than work next week. Must get DH to print out photos of the DC to send with the cards (or learn how to do so myself).

Nettie Have only just realised it's THE meet-up you're going to; have a lovely time! (And we want to hear all the gossip afterwards. Grin)

DidEinsteinsMum · 27/11/2010 13:30

Confused I am not sure that what i was not talking about last night is what you are not taking about today Confused

I have finished my christmas shopping bar 2 purchases.
Got christmas cards for next year.
Labels for this and next year.
bought a new scarf
Finished buying ds' bday present for feb (can never find anything that he would like then so always get this time of year when there is so much he would actually like and use)
Tried to sort out ds' broken glasses.

So today i have left:
tame ferral child
Tesco
Ds to write more christmas cards
washing
ironing
folding
clothes away.

Must remember to go into the city to get ds new trousers most of his suddenly dont fit HmmShock
