Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Good morning, Namechange. That's another impressive list!

optimisticmumma · 29/11/2010 08:56

Morning all - sorry I haven't managed to read through all the posts since Friday.
Dem - sounds like DSs teacher needs to ignore much more and praise other children to the hilt round your DS. I've always found the way round the more stubborn DCs is to make them fall in love with you!!Grin Grin. The thing is does his teacher have the confidence and personality to pull off something to grab his attention???

Anyway - I'm just off to the big smoke to wrap presents for a big children's charity. Only thing is there are nasty looking snow clouds and a tube strike! Wish me luck!!!!

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 29/11/2010 09:18

Good luck OM!!! And thanks. the he has a just out of NQT teacher (2nd or 3rd year of teaching) and a GTP trainee teacher. They do get him but he can do the work without trying. But because that he doesnt bother to do the work they have no idea what he can do. Hopefully being told he will never achieve his dream profession because he is messing about at school will help focus him Hmm He was in tears about it. So am hoping

Ds is not at school. I got about 2 hours sleep so am knackered and feel like shit due to being ill also. Thankfully there is no snow here atm but lots and lots of ice.

Today's list
ring school
ring docs
doc appointments as needed
laundry
lounge taming -
ds supervising
if well enough ds to school

MrsDinky · 29/11/2010 09:22

Morning all, everyone seems so busy!

Toffee - Deck - poor DS for both of you, hope they are both feeling better soon. I put damp towels with a bit of Vick on on the radiators in the DCs bedrooms for coughs and colds, think my DS is going to need one tonight he was very bunged up this morning.

DEcluttering continues here today, I have a huge pile of stuff to sort and take to local preschool, charity shops and tip. Then I need to go to Sainsburys and this afternoon I am helping with Christmas crafts at school.

See you later

elliepac · 29/11/2010 09:36

Morning all,

Not much to report here apart from lots of snow and a stinking headache/cold coming on. DH's car broke down this morning as it turns out all the pipes had frozen so it over heated.

Managed to keep on top of routines over the weekend but that's about it.

Now, it is the time where we start thinking about next month's thread. My brain is telling me that somewhere along the line I said I would do it..is that right?

Back later.

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 29/11/2010 09:48

I think that was what you suggested ellie but i vaguely remember there were a few days when you couldnt do it and was it SC who offered to look after us then?

The advise from the doc surgery is to carry on as is. Not happy and struggling today. Will have to do what can under the circumstances

SylviaPankhurst · 29/11/2010 09:51

Hello everyone I have been snowed under with work and unable to keep up with this thread.

So today is a new start as my house is starting to sink back into chaos again!

Today's list

Hoover living room
Tidy
Ironing
Dishwasher
Shopping
Work! :)

ToffeeChristmascake · 29/11/2010 10:58

Empty d/w done
Breakfast done
Get boys to sign MIL's card done
Get boys to wish MIL a happy birthday done
Lunchboxes and water bottles boys off school
Take thank you cards to school no school
School run no school
Write and post thank you card
Put bin bags out
Recycling
Hotspots in kitchen (getting out of control)
Put bags of fruit away
Declutter hotspot in dining room (stuff from cupboard)
[Return unwanted clothes to shop if time]
Do hair test - very important buggered it up and have to get a new one Angry
Wrap MIL's second present (in Xmas cupboard, which is behind where DS2 sleeps)
etc etc.

Am about to go into town to get some stuff for MIL and cough medicine for Ds2. DS1 is in bed with hot-water bottle, ds2 is coughing non stop and is very grumpy. MIL is going to sit on the sofa with him till I get back. Can't wait to get out. Everyone is driving me mad this morning. I even felt cross when a beautiful bouquet of flowers was delivered for MIL's birthday (just another bloody thing to do, I thought as I unwrapped them). Wonder if it would be too awful to sneak into Costa Coffee and have a sneaky 10-minutes to myself Hmm. Might save my sanity.

highlighterpen · 29/11/2010 11:02

EEeeek! Must post as I haven't posted for so long this thread has dropped out of my 'I'm on' list Blush.

Still FLYing here, though a bit more slowly (!). Still keeping up with the morning and evening routines, washing, washing up (still waiting for the new dishwasher), but haven't done much decluttering this week.

Back to it properly today.
Will read missions and get some of them done.

It's snowing here. Just dent DH out for milk and bread in case we get stuck here - it's shopping day tomorrow so we'll be living on nutella and rice if we do get snowed in.

Hello to everyone. SOrry I haven't had time to catch up.

LinzerTorte · 29/11/2010 11:31

I am trying very hard not to panic but think I may have overstretched myself with this job. Of the 63 pages to translate by early next week, I managed a grand total of 5 this morning. It's looking increasingly likely I'll have to cancel this weekend's plans - and in fact may have to cancel sleep altogether.

On the plus side, I remembered to post the Advent card and have made an appointment for DD2 at the paediatrician's for Thursday afternoon. My morning routine has now been abandoned (but I did make the beds, empty the dishwasher and put the rest of the washing away).

This afternoon's list:
Lunch
Pick up DD2
Piano lesson
More work
Pick up DS and friend(s)
Afternoon routine
More work if poss.

Toffee Sorry to hear your DSs are (still) ill. Hope you treated yourself at Costa - you definitely deserve it. Smile

ellie Hope you manage to stave off the cold and that the headache is better soon.

MrsD Well done on the decluttering.

Deck Hope you can get some rest today and are feeling better soon.

OM Good luck!

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 29/11/2010 12:56

Linzer - well done on getting that done. good luck with the rest of it!

Netti - i know that in progress lists help keep me on track.

To do list update:

ring school done

Folding up to date
Ironing
Put clothes away

I will be lucky to get round to it on wednesday evening now :( I want to be able to get the furniture back and the christmas decorations up!

BobLoblaw · 29/11/2010 14:41

Hello, hope everyone had a lovely weekend, the funeral was utterly heartbreaking but also very appropriate, didn't get a lot done this weekend though, DS shared his cold with me. I'm very jealous of everyone's snow, we've had one flurry, but it was -1 yesterday and there's a bitter east wind, poor dp is roofing .

Today
-S&S done
-Wash DC bedding done
-Load of washing done
-Make spaghetti bolognaise done
-Go with DD to school done
-Put away masses of weekend washing done
-Kitchen floor
-Parcels to Post Office
-Dust mirrors and doors
-Clean windows and frames done

Well done on a very productive weekend feet dp is away next weekend and I plan to get lots of bits done.

Oh no Linzer hope the work was moving more quickly this afternoon

That's quite a list namechange hope you
weren't too busy today.

Goodness me Toffee you have a lot on your plate, I really hope you stopped for at least a cup of coffee and cake, you definitely deserve some time to yourself.

Hello highlighter rice pudding with nutella sounds like perfect snowed in food to me :)

You sound very busy Nettie and I'm very jealous of your playroom/snug, my perfect house has one of those.

I'm sure you're making a big difference everywhere Deck sometimes it's just hard to see while you're in the midst of it all.

systemsaddict · 29/11/2010 14:46

managed to get the house tidied up at the weekend so at least some progress!

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 29/11/2010 14:56

Funeral bob?

BobLoblaw · 29/11/2010 15:14

It was DP's best friend, he died a little while ago but he was in Australia and they had to get a coroner's report and bring him home. He was only 25 and the church was packed, his siblings spoke and mil read a poem. It was lovely but hard going :(

systemsaddict · 29/11/2010 15:19

Sorry to hear that Bob, what a month your family has had Sad

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 29/11/2010 15:43

I 'm sorry bob. I do remember you saying about it. What systems said. :(

ToffeeChristmascake · 29/11/2010 16:05

Bob - glad the funeral went 'well', if you can call it that. I know it must have been heartbreaking, but also wonderful to see how many people cared for your dh's best friend. Terribly sad though.

Linzer - that is a lot of work! I don't envy you. Can you renegotiate the deadline with them? If not, they will have to accept that you'll have to work faster and therefore might not be as accurate. An editor friend of mine says that if a book is perfect it has been 'overedited'! She said that you can only do as much as the budget allows, so if you are expected to do a lot of pages in a short space of time, you are inevitably going to miss things. I found that strangely comforting. Definitely shelve as many flying duties as poss.

Had a good walk into town. Didn't make it into a cafe, but I really enjoyed being out and away from the demands of home. Did all the chores I was meant to do and was back in time to feed everyone. DS admitted to me, privately, that he wasn't ill at all, but hated school at the moment. Will have to discuss that with him later .

Trying to catch up on a few more jobs before I flake out for a sleep before dinnertime (last night's lack of sleep is catching up with me now). Since I last wrote, I have:

Done chores in town
Done lunch
Done the hair test
Put tumbledrier on
Put dry clothes away
Written thank you cards

It doesn't look much, does it? I suppose I have been dealing with three people's various demands as well.

Just going to post the cards and start the shepherd's pie, then aiming to have a sleep. Although ds2, who is now full of cold, has crawled onto the bed beside me and says he wants to stay with me. Maybe we'll try and nap together Hmm.

Today is the anniversary of my father's death two years' ago. Maybe that's why I'm keeping so busy...

optimisticmumma · 29/11/2010 16:27

Oh bugger - just lost a really long post!!

In short: Bob and Toffee look after yourselves. Stuff ALWAYS seems to happen at once ime.

Had a great day wrapping and talking...Treated ourselves to a quick mooch round Covent Garden in the freezing cold. Used about 7 rolls of wrapping paper in 3 hours!!

Back home it still looks threatening and I am also wondering what we will eat if we are snowed in...

Quick internet order for tomorrow I think!

elliepac · 29/11/2010 20:24

Evening all. I am well and truly fed up of the White stuff now. Rather like om did a long post and lost it . Grrrrrrrrr. To bob glad everything went as well as possible. And also thinking of everyone having a tough time. Think am managing to stave off the cold but am shattered. Will be back tomorrow to set up next months thread. Quite glad am in charge next month, need a mahoosive kick up the bum. See you tomorrow.

Dolanette · 29/11/2010 20:47

Hi everybody! Trying to catch up!
Toffee hope you got to Costa, know the feeling where you just want to get out of the house for a break! Did it myself today!

Bob Glad the funeral went okay.

My DH away for the week so I'm home alone with kids. MIL and sister have helped out so far.

Trying to keep the house presentable-ish! sigh!!

Done
Hoovered my bedroom
Dusted lockers in bedrooms
DW on.
DD2 didn't have nap today and was v clingy so didn't get much done. DS (3 yrs) had temp this evening, he is always ill when DH away :(.

To do
Put load of washing on.
Make lunches.
Quick tidy-up sitting room
Quick mop kitchen!

pushmepullyou · 29/11/2010 21:23

Hi all

Sorry for the sudden absence, went away for work on Friday then stayed away for the weekend. RL rather hard work at the moment as DD is still ill, but no-one seems sure with what. Possibly tonsillitis, but she hasn't eaten anything really for a week Sad. Been to OOH once and A&E once and come away with Amoxicillin that I can't get in to her. She seeme better in herself the ast couple of days, but is clearly not right. I just wish she would eat something as she is tiny anyway. My mum has decided to help Hmm by pointing out that she needs to be at home with her mum and how I apparently always said that I wouldn't have coped if I hadn't known she was at home if I needed her Sad. Not very helpful as I can't afford to not work (and don't honestly think I could cope with it anyway) and my job doesn't really lend itself to part time.

Sorry for the mammoth 'me' post Blush. Just feeling a bit sorry for myself tonight!

Off to catch up with the thread properly now. Hope everyone's OK Smile

MrsDinky · 29/11/2010 21:25

Evening all,

DEM is hopefully having a rest tonight, although knowing her she is probably shifting furniture or paiting so I said I would do the links etc tonight.

So, today in Fledgling land

Dolanette is home alone with the DCs, one of whom is unwell, hope he feels better soon, go easy on yourself too

Ellie is fed up with the snow but poised to Fly us all through December

OM has had a busy day wrapping and talking, sounds good to me.

Toffee has had a lot on with her family but had a nice break in town today, and is thinking of her father today.

Bob has been comforted by a funeral packed full of well wishers, and by the sounds of things is getting back into Flying very well.

Systems has slipped back in, with a tidy house, well done

Nettie is crisis cleaning and playing in the snow

Linzer is panicking, better forget the Flying for a day ot two by the sounds of it.

Highlighterpen is hopefully not eating Nutella and rice for dinner tonight

Sylvia has been snowed under with work but is getting back on track with Flying

Namechange had a big list today, hope it went well,

Feetheart had a productive weekend and a happy DD at the end of it with her transformed room

Swan has been helping at Santa's gift shop, think I'm meant to be doing that on Wednesday too.

Well, I managed my car load of stuff to the tip etc, spent this afternoon at school and took DS to Beavers, the house looks like a tip but I did manage a bit of ironing. Need to go and blitz the kitchen next. Back in a minute with some links.

MrsDinky · 29/11/2010 21:29
