Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Can i just say FB is the work of the devil. but i am having a lovely catch up with a friend in a different time zone. So much for my early night though.

swanriver · 23/11/2010 23:43

Mini you are ahead of the rest of us, we are all gibbering wrecks really Blush
SC I like your style!
ELlie yay for Ofsted report - that's you you know that did that!

bit more organised now at 11.30 than I was at 9.00 pm off to bed.
Most of today has been spent sweating over ds's David Livingstone project/essay thingy. Must stop being perfectionist, next day he's allowed to do David Tennant who has no significance and no major world impact, and will just consist of smple info about Dr Who series etc....
Still, have now learnt a lot about upper Zambezi river!

swanriver · 23/11/2010 23:44

next time not next day sorry..

LinzerTorte · 24/11/2010 07:26

I'm feeling quite refreshed this morning as I had a much better night's sleep last night, although I didn't quite make it to bed by 9.30 pm as DD2 was still awake, so I went into her bed and read for a while. DH is supposed to be back tonight, but has just texted me to say he's heard that Air Berlin pilots will be on strike today - though have just read online that the strike has been called off, so fingers crossed that he'll make it back.

I managed to get all of yesterday's list done (admittedly not difficult, as it only had three items on it) plus Monday's and Tuesday's missions, so am going for another short but realistic list today:

Morning routine
Mission
15 minute decluttering
English lesson
Buy milk and juice for Kindergarten book fair
DD2 to ballet
Send invoices x2
Pay bills x2

pmpy Sympathies from a fellow emetophobe. I can just about cope when the DC have a bug, but start to panic in case DH catches it.

Nettie Are you OK? Hope you got back to sleep in the end.

Ihate Hope you're feeling better soon.

SC It sounds like you're still getting a lot done - far more than I manage when I'm working (when I struggle to even keep up with my routines, let alone missions and decluttering, and we live on food from the freezer). I think we all have phases when we only just about manage to keep things ticking over and it's frustrating to feel you're not making significant inroads on anything, but this is always a busy and often stressful time of year. I've only been getting the minimum done recently, but keep telling myself things will improve in the New Year (not that I'm procrastinating or anything!).

MiniM Sorry to hear about the colds; hope your Mum is able to come over and help out today.

ellie Well done on the Ofsted report!

Toffee Hope you enjoyed your evening out.

Bob Lovely to see you back. Smile

We all have weeks like that SC but doing the routines means everything ticks over nicely, so you should still be patting yourself on the back Grin Christmas will get sorted and everything will be decluttered in the new year anyway Wink

Have a nice day with your mum Mini

Waves to everyone I've missed too :)

swanriver · 24/11/2010 13:27

Tried to find a poster for kitchen (very depressing looking at bare wall -have Guardian pull out of autum scene there in desperation)
notsucceeded Angry as can't make decision!
Any ideas for soothing, upbeat ART? Have Matisse print so far on one wall.

alternated piano and tidying playroom semi-done
more laundry done but not put away...Hmm
s & s horrid dcs' loo, not attempted ours
paid for school dinners for ds1 and for Jan.

back to piano now!
Hello Bob Smile I think we had lost our rhythm (two weeks at home we got quite badtempered somehow Blush), last year when he was off school for two/three months was easier and we really enjoyed the time together, but it's great he's walking so well now, so I cannot complain at all, I am grateful op has gone so smoothly.

namechange100 · 24/11/2010 13:49

Oh my home is meltdown - I need Mickey mouse and his magic brooms to turn up!

Stillconfounded · 24/11/2010 16:09

lol Namechange two guinea pigs with microfibre cloths any good?? Grin

Thanks for all the comforting words/pep talks everyone. It has really helped. I've made one slight in-road today - gathered all the individual wobbling stacks of newspapers, books, magazines and bits of school papers in the sitting room into one massively tall wobbling stack and have doggedly shredded, recycled or put away. So the surfaces are looking a bit clearer and I'm feeling a bit better.

Have also booked myself a hair cut. (Look like a witch currently.)

You all look as though you are getting on top of things! Well done!

Crikey Bob it looks as though you have been VERY productive to me!! I can't believe you are already Flying again after everything you've been through recently, never mind posting lovely individual messages to everyone. Top Flying and 'resilient mother' marks!!

Ellie Apologies - I missed the bit last night about your brilliant Ofsted assessment - a testament to all your hard work and efforts - well done!!!! (I read in the paper a while back that Ofsted were assessing schools much more harshly this year than last as well)

Good luck with the interview MrsD!!

Any news on your job front Sylvia?

[Hands Nettie a stiff drink - or two - as a reward for not crying today x]

Linzer glad you are feeling refreshed today - hope your dh makes it back on time

Wracking my brains for art ideas for Swan ... back when I think of something!

Waves to everyone else!

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 24/11/2010 16:42

Swan do you have a nice photo of the kids that you love? might be worth getting it in poster size or something. Lots of places do them.

Ds was up really early as he has a really stinking cold. Sent him to school anyway and had a bit of a panic when i missed 2 calls from the school which basically was just that they needed paper work filling in re his meds. Hmm

So today on antiprocrastination, I ... erm... I procrastinated and went training. So tired. Soooo sore. SOooooo ready for bed. ds is going to bed early as he is poorly. i am going early because i didnt last night. Oh and for those of you who are interested my loop floored me on several occasions. Ouch - too old for this falling melarky.

must sleep tonight

swanriver · 24/11/2010 17:28

Deck noooo, don't think that would be very soothing, somehow Wink I do have an angelic photo of dd which cheers me up whenever she is misbehaving. Anyway friend has artistic black and white pictures of her kids very large all over her kitchen and it is TERRIFYING.

done
piano
snacks
walking

now will attempt
baths
Beavers
homework
supper - have failed to make pie filling so now will settle for pasta Blush

SC I think I did the same - just moving the stuff helped a bit Grin felt less powerless

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 24/11/2010 18:43

Nope can see your point swan. sorry about that. i have gorgoues one of ds holding a fish he caught. But i dont have it up anywhere. Must sort that out really.

right feel slightly less old since having a soak in a very hot bath but can now see all the cuts, bumps and bruises that i have gained today and it is no wonder I hurt.

Right in a vague attempt to get an early night here are the steps for tomo:

Thursday's reminders

Swish and swipe babystep which most of you do already

missions

christmas missions ARE NOT COMPULSORY only bother to even look if you have the time and dont worry cos loads of us ignored them anyway!

Sorry for the lack of personal messages.

Ihatecobwebs · 24/11/2010 19:13

Officially succombed (sp? - too far gone to find dictionary to check) to the bug today. Asked DH to get DS up and to playgroup, but he said he still felt ill and wasn't up to it Hmm. Got him there, though it was a few minutes late, and I was none to quick walking back home either.

I can guarantee that we won't have snow here this week - I've bought the groceries and cat food, filled car with petrol and LPG, we've got oil and wood, fruit and veg in shed store - so we're ready Grin. If we have snow we'll be marooned in the village, parents needed to help at playgroup as 2 of the staff won't be able to get in, school shut due to lack of staff, and a run on the village shops.

Done
Morning routine - vaguely
DS to playgroup
Menu plan
Shopping list
Made beds
Shopping - groceries, cat food, bulbs for Christmas presents, present for DM's birthday, petrol, LPG
Collected DS
Freezer/fridge shopping away
Lunch
S/s
Collapse for afternoon
Washing in machine
Cook tea
Tea
Bedtime routine

Still to do
Washing up
Rest of shopping away
Evening routine
Bed

optimisticmumma · 24/11/2010 20:04

Evening ladies! Had a busy day here as I decided to pull out DD and DS2s bedrooms ShockShock Really pleased with the amount of junk I got rid of! The rest of the house looks like a bomb has hit it due to redec of the kitchen/family room.
I have Mr Chatty doing the painting which is slightly difficult as I'm chatty too!! We realised it was 9.30 before he got started today!Blush
Luckily DH is off tomorrow and we'll be off to shopping centre hell to crack the present buying.
DS1 is very stroppy tonight as his rugby team lost their cup match today - it's their first loss this season. He looks very bruised and battered but it's difficult to comfort a 6 foot 1 eighteen year old.
Have good evenings all. Sorry for lack of personal messages...

elliepac · 24/11/2010 20:29

Evening peeps!

Well, a rather busy day here. Full teaching day then swimming then dinner but am done now and am just settling down for a bit of peace and quiet! Again nothing much flying wise to report apart from the usual routines BUT the fact that I am doing those simple routines (washing up after dinner, tidying every evening, washing, drying, pack-up making) means that I do not feel too far behind unless anybody says the word, Upstairs, and then I come out in a cold sweat Grin. I am working on the principle that no-one sees it at the moment and will continue to do so for the forseeable Wink.

Have also just quietly pooed my pants a little bit when I realised it is only 4 weeks until Christmas and I have the princely sum of 1 present Shock. We have got DS tickets for the X-Factor tour seeing as it is his favourite thing in the whole world (as he tells me every week) so think he will love that. This was mainly because of the absence of any ideas because I do believe my children are spoilt Blush. They have so much stuff!

So, tonight my mission is to do some online browsing to try and make some decisions re presents.

om Grin at you and Mr CHatty. SOmetimes when I am teaching I get carried away chatting and a whole lesson can go by with me and my class just randomly chatting Blush.

ihate you can guarantee you won't get snow because you are prepared. It is forecast for us (Yorks/HUmber) overnight and I am not prepared so it will hit Grin.

did hope those bumps and bruises are starting to feel a little better. I am always in awe of your ice skating, i think, from your profile, we are moreorless the same age and there is no way i could do what you do! ps. you are a fab leader by the way Smile

sc thanks for your kind words about OFsted but I can assure you it was nothing to do with me. I accredit a lot of it to our head who is stupidly young for a head of a large secondary school (36, 31 when he started) but did some very fast talking with the inspectors!

sr no advice on art am afraid. I remember distinctly telling my Art teacher I wanted to do GCSE Art and he looked at me in a funn way and said, 'please don't. I think you may be suited to something more academic!'.

bob if that is an unproductive day then I am size 10 and 6ft Grin. And that's not even taking into accoutn everything you have been through recently. Do NOT be that hard on yourself, yo are doing brilliantly Smile

linzer hope DH made it back ok!

mrsd how did the interview go?

Better go now folks. Big waves to everyone else mm,pmpy nettie toffee namechange feetheart and anyone else I have missed!

Dolanette · 24/11/2010 20:29

Hello all!
Another visitor inspired frantic cleaning spree!

Am
Decluttered banister clothes horse at top of stairs
Reorganised clothes in baby room
Put on load of clothes

PM
Tidied all downstairs - Kitchen/playroom/sitting room/dining room/bathroom
Hoovered
Mopped
S&S Kitchen

Had lovely time with visitors :)
Good news is that I've eventually have the playroom - a major hotspot - under control!

Laundry/Clothes is next major issue that must be resolved!!:o

MrsDinky · 24/11/2010 22:39

Evening all,

Interview went OK I think, will hear next week. Kind of weird, I haven't been looking for a job, as such, but DH knows someone in my line of business and they phoned him last week and asked if I was working at the moment, the job is right up my street, fairly local, flexible hours etc, but it's all quite sudden, I am actually quite happy as SAHM, but this would be too good to turn down if it's offered. Hmmm.

Not much Flying, after interview did some Christmas shopping, went to give blood, got the DCs from school fed them and took them to a big Christmas Fair in a nearby town. DCs to bed and watched the Apprentice, now I need to do my evening routine :(

Cach up tomorrow hopefully!

Toffeefudgecake · 24/11/2010 23:00

It was laundry day in my house today. Did three loads of washing and tumbledrying, plus all the ironing. Weirdly, I actually quite enjoyed it Hmm Blush. I have emptied the laundry basket in the bathroom, which has only happened once before.

Apart from that, I have done the usual routines, cooked lunch and dinner for everyone, washed up (again), done the school run, etc etc. All the usual stuff.

Have just caught up on today's thread -

Ellie - fab news about Ofsted report! You must be so pleased. And well deserved, by the sound of it. Btw, you have given me a shock about Christmas - somehow thought we had at least six weeks to go. Feel pre-Christmas panic building up

Linzer - hope your dh arrived home ok. Agree with you about short lists. I try to keep mine short as that is the only way I feel that i have achieved anything at the end of the day.

Bob - shouldn't you be recovering from what you've just been through? Am in awe of your energy and resilience!

MrsD - fingers crossed for your interview

Dolanette - visitors do help, don't they? Much as I hate the mad scramble to tidy up, I always appreciate the effect afterwards.

OC - congratulations on the decluttering. It's addictive, I'm finding.

Ihate - so sorry you are ill. Hope you feel better soon. Well done on being so well prepared for the bad weather

Deck - am very impressed by all your training. Hope the bumps and bruises heal quickly.

SC - congratulations on tackling and overcoming the paper mountain.

Nettie -

PMPY - hope your daughter is feeling better.

Namechange - Flylady would say: go shine your sink Smile

Swan - glad to hear your ds is back at school today. Did you enjoy the peace?

Am nodding off at the computer. Time for bed. Waves to all i've missed (and apologies).
