Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

DidEinsteinsMum · 10/11/2010 23:30

Ok so in the last two days:

Systems has been productive but is struggling with bedtimes. did well on her list yesterday. it was a small and achievable list and was this mostly achieved

OM have you finished the lesson obs yet? Yes the thread is moving awfully fast at the mo. its making my head spin.

Bob has had a productive day followed by a day without restbite care for dd. How is the ankle? As a result was not as productive today as she had hope. let me reiiterate this is not about perfection!!! It is about doing a little at a time and accepting that life comes first and that that is ok. NO PERFECTIONISM!!!

swan was very motivated on tuesday and started the day well. Although she is a bit over excited about christmas for my liking. We do advert stuff every advent sunday. I am so not going to be ready for it. thankfully in this house it consists of a few close friends coming for coffee and cake.

PA has been feeling unwell, Good luck for friday(?) we are all hoping first time =all She is on christmas strike and refusing to even think about the christmas missions. SHe is also auditioning for an ignore christmas buddy for this year.

Highlighter how is DT1 doing? are both DTs doing ok now? Despite poorly children highlighter has been making progress on flying.

sylvia was a day ahead of herself on the missions on tuesday and did a huge list of things on tuesday. she can be forgiven for not getting her christmas cards written. its not even middle of november yet

Dolanette has proper flybabies and has been successfully flying.

toffee has been busy with her errands, and lots of stuff that counts as flying. As a result she now has a fridge that could blind you if you look at it too long. She is also prepared for the arrival of her MIL.

linzer has had a few days of demotivation but is trying to keep things ticking over, and is taking the head in sand option wrt to christmas. she is in the lead for PA's anti christmas buddy.

SC has had rl conspiring against her and she has been seen flying past a few times recently.

feetheart has been working her way though stuff for the tax people and thus forgiven any flying that has been left on the wayside in the meantime. I think the flying pigs are on strike Grin hope you dont have such an early start tomo.

Ihate has been posting to do lists of scarey proportions. I too have an over ambitious craft list for christmas this year. Do we get to see picts of your creations too?

Nettie hawl your bum back to the thread and stop lurking. you have done more then me this week!!! Hope you get a better night's sleep tonight.

sitting Seems to be actively taking an interest in the cba about christmas buddy for PA. How did tackling mount ironmore go?

MrsD is getting frustrated by mn failing to post her messages so that all her witty comments are being lost into the mn black hole.

Just one last thing: Ihate HOW is that list more realistic than todays? Its one hell of a scarey looking list Shock[thump]

Right here are the links:

there's no place like flying there's no place like flying.

pa ditto what dem said. thinking of you.

DancingIceDragons · 11/11/2010 08:20

notepad. Nettie

Another night owl i see. Grin

Morning all. ds will be late for school again. its 20 past and i am still in bed. Whoops.

LinzerTorte · 11/11/2010 08:30

Morning,

I wish I was still in bed - I'm quite tempted to go back (feel like I'm coming down with a cold, so am dosing myself up with echincea and zinc). But I'm not that ill, so must force myself to get on with things. This morning, I need to do the following:

menu plan for the weekly shop (have already been out food shopping for the essentials, but will need to go again tomorrow)
put the washing away
morning routine
15 min decluttering

Only managed to read for about 10 minutes yesterday, so must try and be a bit quicker today! (Have managed about 1/8 of the book I need to read by next Wednesday...)

Hope everyone has a good day. Smile

sittinghippo · 11/11/2010 09:47

Morning everyone

Thanks for fab round up DEM

I did pretty well yesterday, and ironing basket almost empty. Smile Happy Sitting.

Todays list

Morning Routine
Hoover
Mop Kitchen
Mission and Tuesdays Mission
5 min room rescue in lounge
Fill in satisfaction survey and post (maybe tomorrow when its stopped raining)
Have DD friend round for lunch
Take DD and friend to play gym after lunch
Then work at 4.

After the school run in torrential rain I am recovering with MN, chocolate and caffeine... for as long as I deem necessary.

Toffeefudgecake · 11/11/2010 09:56

Both boys off school sick today (although DS1 seems suspiciously lively now he knows he's not going to school Hmm) and MIL is here and too poorly to get out of bed. (She loves her room, by the way, so it was all worth it). I have set the alarms on my mobile to tell me when she needs all her medication. I told DS1 that I felt like a doctor. "A witch doctor, you mean", he said.

No list today thanks to all the sick people in this house. Everything else will just have to fit in with that. But have done my morning routines, so that's a start.

DID - loved the round up. It must take a lot of work to keep up with this thread! I like what you said to Bob about flying not being about perfectionism and life coming first. That makes me feel better about all the stuff I haven't done yet. Smile

PA - thinking of you

Linzer - hope you defeat the cold. Going back to bed might help you fend it off, you know? Maybe you should give yourself permission.

Might pop back on later.

highlighterpen · 11/11/2010 10:06

systemsaddict · 11/11/2010 10:55

DEM love your roundup and you have turned me from feeling like a failure to feeling proud of being clever enough to produce an achievable list Grin

Sadly, yesterday's before bed routine consisted of: sleep on sofa; load dishwasher; set washing machine to re-wash laundry that didn't get hung up yesterday; sleep in bed. And this morning was focused on getting recalcitrant ds dressed and ready in time for school and all I achieved was emptying the dishwasher. (Hope that washing gets hung up by the time I get home but dp ill so maybe not.)

2 questions:

  1. Shower to shoes. I know my life would be easier if I did this first thing. But, it runs the risk of waking up the children and my few minutes of quiet meditation with coffee before they get up keeps me sane. But, then I end up in my dressing gown all morning, scrambling to get a shower before work and dressing like a bag lady. Do all of you shower to shoes first thing?
  1. Before bed routine. I know what I need to do to make mornings easier, which is:
load dishwasher (which I have achieved as a habit now hurrah); get clothes ready for tomorrow; get food ready for tomorrow; put laundry on; tidy up. But after the usual bedtime wars I just slump in defeated exhaustion. Any tips for motivating oneself to get it done before slumping hits?
BobLoblaw · 11/11/2010 11:02

I like your style sitting Grin

Waves to Nettie swan and highlighter

I think DiD is right Linzer put your feet up, read your book and recharge your batteries :) I think I'm probably wrong but in Fly Lady lingo you could be renewing your spirit?

Hope your dc feel better soon toffee and I'm pleased your mil feels at home, I'm sure that is largely because you are being so welcoming.

Toffeefudgecake · 11/11/2010 12:13

Am making leek and potato soup (thanks, Sitting), but MIL says she doesn't want soup in case it upsets her, just beans on toast Confused.

Am making the soup anyway. Determined to use my new Lakeland soup bags and get some vitamins into my DC.

Systems - 1. I used to have the same problem when my DS2 was younger, but at least if he wakes up now I can try to convince him to stay in bed for a few extra minutes. Could you get your DC to stay in bed and wait for you to be ready? Maybe give them books or toys to distract them? It took me a long time to 'train' DS2 to wait for me and it didn't always work, but he's pretty good now. If I do miss my 'slot' in the bathroom first thing, it's a disaster - unwashed hair, no make up, etc Blush.

  1. Have been doing the before-bed routine after putting last child to bed, which can often be nearer 10pm than I'd like, which means I'm up far too late myself. So recently, I have started to do some of the stuff when I get back from school, instead of flopping down with a cup of tea like I usually do. Have been trying to empty and clear out their lunchboxes as soon as we get home, for instance. Are there any things you could squeeze in a bit earlier, so you don't have so much to do later?

Oops - only came on here to get Sitting's recipe and seem to have been drawn into MN again Blush. Bye for now.

BobLoblaw · 11/11/2010 12:30

What's a soup bag Toffee ? Confused

Ihatecobwebs · 11/11/2010 12:47

Systems 1. I think I am fortunate, as DS (3 1/2) knows he has to stay in his room until I come for him. Gives me a chance to get myself sorted, before the day starts.

  1. I try to cram in as much as possible between tea and bedtime, when DS is on "last play", and try not to sit down "for a few minutes" when I've put him to bed, as that's fatal. I load the washing machine and do a final wipe down in the kitchen while I'm waiting for my supper drink kettle to boil.

DEM - list should be more achievable, as DS is at playgroup until 1pm, and has lunch there on a Thursday, and DH is finally back at work after a few days holiday and working from home. I find it much easier to get round when I am on my own.

Off to collect DS now. Will update my list when I get back.

Dolanette · 11/11/2010 12:48

I agree with what Bob said re perfectionism.
Lost my enthusiasm of last wk but still will force myself to continue.
Will focus on Babysteps

So to do
Clear off dining room table - major hot spot in this house
S&S Kitchen
Bring shoes that seem to have taken up residency in sitting room back to their proper place
5 mins in room rescue in playroom

Must have cuppa first!
SA I rarely have shower in morning, I too have fear of waking children, usually have it when DD1 having her nap or at night-time.
DID Thanks for fab roundup!

Also a question! What gets you motivated to do housework! For me, it's usually having a look at flylady website or that prog Cleanaholics also shamed me into doing some!!
Don't know is that prog on anymore.

Apologies for waffling on!!

optimisticmumma · 11/11/2010 13:29

Disastrous start to the day in the optimistic household! I forgot to dry DS2's PE kit overnight so had to partly dry it on a radiator and get DS1 to take it in a bit later. He kicked up a right old fuss and tbh my poor DS2 is probably doing running in damp kit in the pouring rain (hopeless mum emoticon). I feel really bad about it because having washed it himself I sent him to bed and promised to put it in the dryer. I then took DD to school to save her a 15 min walk got caught in traffic and was late to take car to garage and man to mend my kitchen floor!!

Calm is now restored....sorry for rant...
I have:
put on DW
put on WM
Done some ironing
Lit a fire cos it's so horrible here!
Have restorative coffee with my mum.
Done quick room rescues.

I still need to
sort out supper
do kitchen missions
anything else that suddenly strikes me!

Toffee - I think you are being a star regarding your MIL. Lots of gold stars coming your way.
Big waves to everyone else!

DancingIceDragons · 11/11/2010 14:03

Well my productive morning went out of the window and i have spent the morning in a&e. Nothing major. muscular and bruising. but bloody painful. So am dosing up on painkillers and hitting the anti inflamatory routine that has to be done here as i cant tolerate anti flams.

I have cake too.

highlighterpen · 11/11/2010 14:42

Oh DiD! It's just not your week, is it. Good that you have cake. Feet up, cup of tea. Instruct other family members in the ways of FLYing from the comfort of the sofa.

Ihatecobwebs I am Envy of your Aga. OM at least if it was raining DS might not have noticed the damp PE kit!

I have been productive FLYing-wise, not so much work-wise. I have lost a vital piece of paper I need to do the planning I'm meant to be doing today. In looking for it, I have done a major declutter of part of the study and recycled a large cardboard box of old papers and have a small box of papers to take to the office tomorrow for shredding. Not found the sheet of paper though. Hoping it is in a box I took into the office last week but I fear that in my zeal I may have recycled it. Which is a bummer as I have the only copy.

Have had yet another re-arrangement of furniture in the living room to try to babyproof it a bit more (DTs trying to get in the drinks cabinet Shock) and need to do a serious declutter behind the sofa in there at some point.

Still to do:
mission
make dinner
fold more washing

I've been busy all day but I don't seem to have got anything done. Aaargh.

Hoping for a better day tomorrow.
