Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Swanriver - my craft list for Christmas is large, and only "very" slightly over ambitious Smile

Finish Christmas tree skirt - pieced and partially quilted last year, determined to get it out and finish it properly now
Finish table runner - pieced, but needs quilting
Small triangle bunting for parts of the kitchen
Fabric gingerbread men, kitchen helpers, hearts, snowmen etc
Floral arrangements, wreaths etc
Snowman wall hanging
Paint and glitter pinecones
Christmas throw quilt

DidEinsteinsMum · 09/11/2010 23:33

Right wednesday is antiprocrastination day, so lists at the ready:

the power of 15mins

Wednesday's reminders

the missions

christmas missions canijustburrymyheadinthesandandpretendchristmasisntgoingtohappenthisyearplease?

Its been an eventful day. traumatised child, sis in a&e so round up i am afraid will have to wait. I thought I have posted a warning to this effect earlier when it all started kicking off but it appears to have evaporated. appologises for the lack or roundup. and yes they are both fine. just knackered from the craziness.

sleep is essential. never to early to think about a decent bedtime. however it does already appear to be too late. see u tomo.

DancingIceDragons · 10/11/2010 04:19

NettieSnowBalls · 10/11/2010 04:24

did aarraaaggghhh that's awful!

feetheart · 10/11/2010 04:36

Up at stupid o'clock with stinky cold - came down to get Lemsip so it must be bad (Yuck emoticon needed!)

Everyone has been very busy but not sure if I can do you justice at the moment.

SC - hope things sort themselves out at work, horrible situation.

DID - sounds hairy. One day peace and quiet will reign (feetheart looks for flying pigs :))

Toffee - I agree with Bob, full marks on the 'lovely DiL' scale

PA - thinking of you

Ihatecobwebs - HUGE list, good luck.

As for my achievements yesterday:

  • Morning routine - done apart from sweeping floor
  • Work - done
  • Make Spaghetti bolognese for dinner/freezer - done and eaten/frozen
  • To school to photocopy School Assoc stuff and make display for Parents Evenings this week - done
  • Pick up DC and try to allay disappointment as they think they are going to friends, sadly friends are poorly - done, chocolate biscuits helped :)
  • Help a bit at Parents Evening - done
  • Dinner - done
  • DD to Brownies - done
  • Try and sneak out to help at Parents evening again if DH is home - not done as DH announced at 5pm that he was on a training course from 6-9pm. It was NOT in the super-duper, integrated iCalendar thingie he has been fiddling about with ALL week Angry
  • Evening routine - sort of
  • Bed at decent time - just after 10.30pm

Today's list will probably be short:

  • Morning routine, including kitchen floor
  • Work
  • Scan stuff for IR now scanner is talking to Mac
  • Sneaky lie-down
  • DS's belated Parents Evening (just couldn't coordinate it for yesterday but lovely teacher will do it after school today and get TA's to look after DC :))
  • Take DC to SiL's to pick up DS's birthday present (Warning - I will probably be cross later on. Its a long, long story!)
  • Dinner
  • Homework - school getting bit more organised on this front so my slapdash approach will not work any more Shock
  • Evening routine
  • Bed

Going to stop rambling and go back to bed now - hope you are all sleeping tight :)

feetheart · 10/11/2010 04:38

Oh no, DID, that's not good :(

Nettie - how come you are up too?

NettieSnowBalls · 10/11/2010 04:43

feetheart Darling dearest dh trying to cuddle in his sleep woke me up Angry hope you feel better soon.

feetheart · 10/11/2010 04:45

SC and MrsD and any other Masterchef addicts - thought you might like though don't watch it if you haven't seen the final result yet GrinGrinGrin

Really going to bed now

PositiveAttitude · 10/11/2010 05:05

You are all up late/early, arent you?

Thank you for all the messages.

I hope the lemsip works feetheart.

Nettie - go and have that cuddle!! Grin

DID hope you get some sleep!! Hmm

Massive waves to everyone. I will try to get back and catch up before Saturday, but at the moment I have the concentration of a goldfish and the energy of a sloth.

Can't cope with all this Christmas talk, either. WHo is my "CBA to think about Christmas until half way through December" buddy this year? Or am I going solo??? Bah humbug!!

DD2s is 18 today!! Feeling a bit sorry for her as I am not up to partying or entertaining or anything, but I think she has a few things planned. DD1 is travelling down for the weekend tomorrow. I cant wait to see her!!

Have a good day everyone. Grin

BobLoblaw · 10/11/2010 06:56

Been thinking of you PA Have a lovely weekend and I'm sure DD2 will have a nice birthday :)

Hope you're not cross later feet but you may need to explain all if you are, sounds intriguing

highlighterpen · 10/11/2010 07:58

DiD thinking of you and hoping you got some sleep.

DId the evening routine last night but came downstairs this morning to find that after I had gone to bed lots of cps of tea / glasses of wine had been drunk and things not washed up so I was a bit Angry but did the washing u and soon got over it.

DTs up
Beds made
Breakfast done
I'm now off to work so nit much FLYing from me today.

I did the mission yesterday - very satisfying wiping the drips of tea off the cupboards (I'd never noticed they were so dirty). Will do the fridge mission today too (I need to).

DiD hoping for a better day for you today.

LinzerTorte · 10/11/2010 08:06

Morning all,

Wow, the thread has been busy so far this morning - or should I say late last night? Hope you are managing to catch up on some sleep now DID, that you're feeling better soon feetheart and that you got back to sleep in the end Nettie (DH is always complaining that I wake him up by stealing the duvet).

Am still struggling with my motivation a little, so after I've got my morning routine and decluttering done I've decided to allow myself to read for the rest of the morning (if there's any left). I still have over 500 pages to read before the book club next Wednesday - eek! Hopefully that should force me to get my skates on and not spend too much time on MN...

Hope your busy day goes well, Bob.

Have also been thinking about you PA. I must admit I'm feeling a bit CBA about Christmas at the moment; everyone else on this thread is putting me to shame, so I'm glad to see I'm not the only one!

Good luck with your list today, Ihate!

Toffee Glad the decluttering is going well. I can only second (third? fourth?) everyone else's comments about you being a lovely DIL. Smile

SC I know exactly how you feel - I now feel more at home in Austria than in the UK, but at the same time still feel far more British than Austrian (and am sure I always will). On the whole I'm quite happy being an expat (it does seem to have more upsides than downsides, for me at least), although I'm sometimes not sure where I belong any more... Not that I was ever sure when I was in the UK, either!
Sorry to hear about your work problem btw; hope you get it sorted out soon.

Today's list:

Post birthday card done
Send dermatologist's bill to health insurance company
Prepare English lesson done
Make phone call re translations
Morning routine started
15 minutes decluttering
Read Grin
English lesson
Afternoon routine
Pick up DS's friends
DD2 to ballet
Evening routine
Yet more reading

Waves to all, have a good day everyone. Smile

systemsaddict · 10/11/2010 08:11

DID hope you get to rest today

Yesterday's list: shower to shoes did, scoop cat litter forgot, feed and dress kids did but poorly - they got muesli bars for breakfast 'cos refused cereal, put sheets on to wash did.

Tonight's plan: tidy ds' room and make him go to sleep in it. half - didn't do his room but he did go to sleep in his own bed, by the neat trick of not making our bed up again. Had to sit on the step outside his room and was so tired I went to sleep many times sitting up but it is huge progress.

Today have:
emptied dishwasher
put washing on
dressed me and ds
put rubbish out
breakfasted ds
tidied living room

Still need to:
scoop cat litter
dress / delegate dd
breakfast / delegate dd
hang up washing / delegate that
put away clean washing
clean up breakfast
plan dinner

DancingIceDragons · 10/11/2010 08:34

Morning. ds read and made paper snowflakes. I went to sleep about 10 mins after posting. Have overslept this morning though. I think ds might have fallen asleep again but not sure. he wont admit anything.

Restful? Nah going to procrstinate and go training again today. Grin

Have good flying days all!

PA thinking of you. happy birthday to dd2. Take care and thankyou for popping in to let us know how you are.

sittinghippo · 10/11/2010 09:47

Morning all
DiD I'm glad you managed to get a couple of hours sleep at least. I dont know, I cant function on anything less than 6 hours, and am much happier with 8 or 9!

cobwebs I want to come to your house for Christmas! It sounds like it's going to be gorgeous! Smile
I only get about as far as a wreath on the front door and a Christmas tree in the lounge.

PA there's nothing wrong with putting off thinking about Xmas until mid-December... I was rather surprised to hear my DD singing 'Away in a Manger' on her way home from pre-school yesterday. Hello?! It's only November!

Toffee/DiD I got to enjoy my pumpkin soup yesterday, and yes it was lovely thank you. Have you been busy soup making Toffee?
Referring back a bit in the thread, but LittleSitting was a great Flybaby today, made her own bed, and put all her own clean washing away in the drawers. (carefully unfolding it all in the process but hey, its a good start. She's only 3 and 1/2) [proud mummy emoticon]

Main job for today is to get back on top of the ironing, I've got a little slack with that lately and I can see the mountain starting to creep back up.

swanriver · 10/11/2010 10:21

MrsDinky · 10/11/2010 11:52

I wrote a long and it hasn't appeared Sad.

Anyway, I'm with you PA, I'm only doing Christmas shopping now because it gets hellish in December. Everything else can wait. DH and I argue every year as to when the Christmas tree should go up (he thinks 1st December, I think weekend before Christmas - we normally go for somewher in between now). I'm just not that into Christmas (or birthdays) and want minimum fuss. [miserable git emoticon].

feetheart · 10/11/2010 14:19

Hmmmm, this decluttering lark is interesting. Just cleared out a small drawer in kitchen and found DH's stash Shock
It must be at least 8 years old as neither of us has indulged since before DC :)

Feeling pretty rough but that made me giggle.

So far I have:

  • Morning routine, including kitchen floor - done
  • Work - avoided, too poorly (feeling sorry for myself emoticon needed :))
  • Scan stuff for IR now scanner is talking to Mac - doing, slowly
  • Cleared out v small drawer in kitchen as fridge is too cold Hmm
  • Sent text to DH re 'find'

May have to take drugs before meeting up with SiL - Lemsip only though something stronger would be preferable (Bob - I will spill beans later if I am coherent)

optimisticmumma · 10/11/2010 15:10

Happy Birthday to DD2 PA ( I have one of those now too..)Smile

Good God this thread has moved fast...and I haven't even posted my to do list..

Done
Doc
Exercise
Met up with friend for coffee
Done errands
Forgot rabbit hay etc Blush
Booked car into garage - making horrible clunking noises, not good!

To do
Wait for Tesco order
Wait for log man
Pick up DC at various times DS1 rugby match, DS2 running club, DD volunteering.
Go to singing rehearsal and prep for it!!
Do some kitchen decluttering although I don't think I'll find anything as interesting as feetheart and if I do it will be the DCs! Shock

Big waves to all on the thread. Catch up later...

messgae for mm - have investigated 'Cook' portion sizes and would probably go for the 4 size but then I am greedy... 2 would be OK with plenty of veg and no minimarmite joining in...

swanriver · 10/11/2010 16:17

Have bought all my Christmas iron rations Shock green food colouring, dried cranberries, sugar stars, gherkins, twiglets, firelighters, you know the sort of thing Wink
2 trips to Morrisons! Only one bottle of alcohol though, just can't face it. For a teacher.

Hoovered my bedroom
s & s my bathroom

dh is here today, helping with kids (a great deal)but not much else Hmm and sabotaging my plans to start Xmas cake or re-ordering cupboards.

Stillconfounded · 10/11/2010 17:56

Hallllllooooooooo!!!

Sorry! Another message at high speed. You lot are far too busy to keep up with!!

Thanks for all your kind words re work situation. Not quite so bad now as we caught it early and closed down site immediately so not as many clients affected as we had feared. Engineers are on it but meanwhile still mayhem because most of our systems are down. Fortunately they are working through tomorrow (public hol here : Armistice) so we have a day in hand.

Feetheart that link of yours had me and dh crying with laughter. Have duly sent it off to 5 friends. Brilliant! Thank you. Hope you feel better soon.

Mahoosive "citizens of everywhere and nowhere" wave to Linzer Grin

Hope you get some rest DID/DEM and thanks for links

PA Happy Birthday to your dd2! Hope you manage a bit of a rest today too.

Toffee agree that is the downside with Flylady. If you absolutely cannot do even 15 mins the whole thing rather goes to pot. However, I'm taking courage from the fact that she always says not to worry if you are behind, just jump in again where we are at- so hopefully that will work. Laundry is up near the ceiling again though.

Blither!! Have to go again. Apologies, no more personal messages. Late with supper! See you on the morrow!

Waves to everyone!

Leaves out large bowl of homemade chicken broth for those poorly/in need of comfort before sleep/on health kick

And large bottle of red for everyone else ...
