Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Those recipes sound lovely, Sitting. I actually made pumpkin soup at Hallowe'en and did it again using butternut squash for bonfire night. If I left out the chilli, MIL might like it (she has what you might call 'old-fashioned' taste, eg hates garlic and anything spicy or 'fancy'). Leek and potato is a great idea - she'll like that. If you have a recipe for that, I'd be grateful.

Sorry to send you off to Tesco! Enjoy your soup Smile.

Toffeefudgecake · 08/11/2010 14:32

You know, I wasted ages googling Spiderman cakes this morning. Problem was solved in a few minutes on MN. From now on, I'll just come to MN for life's problems....

BobLoblaw · 08/11/2010 14:48

Sort mail

Also been and done shopping as I ran out of washing powder!!!

swanriver · 08/11/2010 18:07

Ds1's leg op over, back home now with convalescent 10 year old who can hop around a bit (and will be here for about two weeks)

Dh is lookign after everyone now and feeding them pizza and Sarah Jane episodes, so I suppose I should do something USEFUL.

First stop, hang out washing
Next quick rescue of bathrooms
hall
can't face kitchen just yet.

oh and the ASH REMAINS.

Push LOL - my house is all noughties decor, but nothing so exciting (I think I wasn't even fashionable then)
Bob If the beanbag makes life easier then it is worth it
SC what part of Blighty? if I may be so nosey? Hope it wasn't London that cast down your spirits Grin
Optimistic oh dear I've lost my place but send good wishes on teenagers, buttons etc
DID ditto, I remember something about creativity! excellent

slinks off to try and improve recall (what is Terry doing advertising Brain Training in middle of Downton Abbey - are we sunk so low?)

LinzerTorte · 08/11/2010 19:15

Flying is falling by the wayside here - this morning consisted of work and failing to make chicken nuggets (didn't manage to turn bread into breadcrumbs Blush), and the girls' piano lessons were followed by a friend's visit in the afternoon. At least the house is looking relatively tidy for once; I'm trying to tidy up as I go along, and it seems to be working.

swan DH is always very downcast when he goes back to London as he misses living there. I miss our life there too, but our flat was only the size of a shoebox so not DC-friendly. Do you live in London itself?

Toffee I would second pumpkin soup (although I can't get the DC to eat it). Also sweet potato and butternut squash/red peppers/parsnip/carrot - I particularly like root vegetable soups in winter; they seem very warming somehow.

Bob Shock at price of bean bag - I didn't realise they could cost so much.

sitting Hope you managed to find a pumpkin!

Welcome loosinas - this thread really helps to motivate me (although I seem to be spending more time chatting than flying at the moment Blush).

Must go and see about something to eat - DH is lying on the sofa complaining of dizziness, so it looks like I'll be eating on my own this evening.

Toffeefudgecake · 08/11/2010 19:26

Finally managed to pack Hallowe'en stuff away. Took all of five minutes, yet I've been putting it off all week.

Had a phone call to say hospital are sending MIL home tomorrow even though there is no one there to look after her Confused. She is 80, frail, very unwell and lives alone. We have been trying to persuade us to move near us for years. MIL has now said she won't come to us to convalesce because she can't cope with the journey (one hour) Confused Confused. DH at his wit's end, as he has a really important meeeting tomorrow and now he will somehow have to also get over to see his mum and persuade her to come home with us.

Arghhhhhhhh!

Toffeefudgecake · 08/11/2010 19:28

Swan - glad op is over. Enjoy the Sarah Jane Adventures.

Linzer - your soup recipe sounds delicious. Will add it to my list.

DancingIceDragons · 08/11/2010 20:17

Right, i am noticing that the round up is becoming problematic late evening. So I shall post the roundup earlier (post ds bedtime) and then the links later on. Will appologise now as it will mean a number of fledglings will miss out the round up tonight.

BobLoblaw · 08/11/2010 20:40

Today

-Dinner done
-Washing up done

It's one of these Linzer and Sylvia, it's nice and comfy and should be ok to take out and about when the wheelchair isn't suitable.

Hope the next few weeks go quickly and smoothly for you and ds1 swan

Oh no Toffee hope it isn't too stressful for your dh tomorrow, sounds like a very awkward situation.

I can only speak for myself DiD but whenever is easiest for you :)

SylviaPankhurst · 08/11/2010 20:54

Oh no Toffee I suppose she is just desperate to be safe at home and not thinking straight. Hope you can persuade her, so difficult. My parents would be v. difficult to persuade. Could you pretend it is just for two days and that kids are so lookign forward to it?

Linzer I'm between Ealing and Hammersmith, so does that count as London? Grinnot exactly the high life!

DancingIceDragons · 08/11/2010 21:20

assisted flying is to be encouraged!!!!

Sorry got side tracked. will be back.

Toffeefudgecake · 08/11/2010 22:30

DH spoke to MIl on phone and has persuaded her to come to us on Wednesday. I think you are right, Swan - she just wants everything to be normal and to be back at home again. Am quite apprehensive as I'm not sure how much looking after she'll need. Quite a bit, I imagine. So glad you mentioned the ASDA spiderman cake, Systems - at least that's one less thing to worry about.

So, list tomorrow looks like this:

Put rubbish out
Morning routine
School run
Meet friend for tea
Put washing away
Bag up old clothes for school fundraising
Finish tidying DS2's bedroom ready for MIL
Online order from Tesco
Defrost freezer
Wrap DS2's presents
Errands in town (including taking a bag of old toys to charity shop - am getting the hang of decluttering!)
PM and eve routine

Swan - glad to see i'm not the only one who waits a week to put the Hallowe'en stuff away Smile.

Waves to all.

MrsDinky · 08/11/2010 22:44

My Halloween stuff is still all over the house, but I did clear out the fridge, do proper menu planning and shopping today, ordered some more Christmas presents as well as give away a binliner of old clothes, so that is enough Flying for one day.

Am shattered now due to not getting to sleep till about 2.30 last night with DD, off to bed now. DD seems much better tonight BTW.

Will chat properly tomorrow hopefully.

DancingIceDragons · 08/11/2010 23:30

Right having been completeld dreadful at the roundup here goes:

Ellie had a more realistic list on sunday, and has proritised the area that people see. DIcovered that sometimes the simplest causes can stop technology working

Bob had a lazy day on sunday and has bought a fabulous new beanbag for her dd.

Dolanette earmarked sunday for family stuff. And is training her 3yo in the art of flying. Well done!!!

highlighter hope DT2 is still continuing to improve.

toffee has been decluttering

geeky there are a number of the babysteps that we ignore. Putting shoes on is regularly ignored, post it notes are deemed fairly pointless. And control journals are in some cases empty folders/books. or there but ignored guilty

SC came back from her travels and has a slight variation to her name.

Cake Had a very productive sunday but was anticipating a less productive monday due to work commitments

linzer had a busy weekend, managed to get some decluttering done, and had a thoughtful dh who gave her some her time, but spolit her christmas present plans.

Nettie Had a busy sunday and done loads.

MM you taking it easy or are you going mad with the diy? It will ensure an early baby if you go too mad. relax a bit.

MrsD had a relaxing day on sunday, hopfully will have a better night's sleep tonight. Is dd feeling any better?

ellie had a course that took longer in travelling then it did to do the course

OM did you get you lesson obs written up?? impressed by the early morning baking.

PMPY had a lovely few days away

Sylvia has had a good start to the week

feetheart happy birthday to ds yesterday. How did the IR paperwork go?

Loosinas welcome, hope you havent been scared away. The system does work, and it has kept most of us motivated. WHen that fails the chat has keep us motivated enough to feel guilty about not getting anything done and start doing other bits again.

systems there are many who have enjoyed the fireworks that way. it would appear fear of the noise is not uncommon. Not surprised you were cross though.

toffee has finally realised that mn truely is the font of all knowledge and it is far easier to ask mn first.

sitting had a productive day and went on a mission for pumpkin soup. enjoy it?

swan has a convalescing ds1, hope he is a good patient. But has manged to a lot of stuff since returning home this evening.

*linzer had a day of paid work. today.

toffee had a scare when they were going to send her MIL home on her own to convelese. thankfully her DH has managed to talk some sense into her and they will be looking after her after all.

Ok have to admit that i started the round up hours ago but have been breaking the basic principle of only doing one thing at a time. I am too tired and confused to figure out how much of a mess i have made so appologies. for that.

DidEinsteinsMum · 08/11/2010 23:37

foiled by the name change again

Babysteps: Decluttering

Tuesday's reminders

This week we are in the kitchen missions here

Christmas mission

OP posts:
systemsaddict · 09/11/2010 06:45

Usual power struggle to get dd into bed ended up with me shouting at her (god knows what the neighbours think) then collapsing on the sofa. Dp came down with a DVD (making amends for the weekend?) so failed to do much of the evening routine. Then sudden screams from upstairs, ds (asleep in our bed) had weed. In our bed.

so as for list for last night:

  • tidy kids' rooms 5 mins each half in that dd insisted I tidy her room before she went to sleep. So some progress.
  • evening routine: load dishwasher, shine sink, wipe and sweep dining room, tidy downstairs. half again - did dishwasher and tidied, didn't do the rest.
But of course I did: strip our bed. And scrub the mattress. At midnight. Oh and dp made up the spare room bed with clean sheets. Which we have now slept in.

This morning have:
emptied dishwasher, rinsed out recycling, folded laundry.

Still need to:
shower to shoes, scoop cat litter, feed and dress kids, put sheets on to wash.

Tonight's plan: tidy ds' room and make him go to sleep in it. Somehow.

DID roundup looks pretty good to me!

optimisticmumma · 09/11/2010 08:54

Morning all.
DID/DEM - brill round up and I've half done the lesson obs...Blush

-15 minutes decluttering
-Hot spots in bedrooms

No respite lady today and dd is being very demanding so I'll just have to see how we get along!

swanriver · 09/11/2010 09:22

systems as cold comfort I would like to say that I still sleep in dd's (8 yrs)bed half the time at story time so that she goes to sleep nicely, and the other half the time in ds2's bed! I hop out at 8.45, that seems to do the trick (if I haven't fallen asleep myself) We tried it the hard way between ages 3 and 5 (screaming, tearing hair out sort of trying, holding doors shut etc, endless delaying tactics) and do you know, we now just do anything that suits us Grin
I'm being unfair to ds2 he's not bad to going to sleep by himself, just likes to join us at 6am Hmm
Bob hope you don't get too exhausted this morning trying to juggle different important things

List today
clear window box of summer stuff
clear any old bedding still struggling on
ironing in ds1' room to entertain him Hmm
write 3 xmas cards each in his room ditto
piano whilst he's watching Hook
red cabbage
brussel sprout stirfry for me for lunch to use up
defrost mince
soak aubergines

done

highlighterpen · 09/11/2010 10:32
