Welcome to the October 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here!

Many thanks to our September thread leader StillCounting for guiding us through the traumatic back to work and school period with lots of support and guidance!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Hi All,

Flapjacks all round! I made them to fit the tin as I only have one suitable for flapjacks - that meant 3x the recipe! DH was very pleased!

One set of visitors has just left and the next lot are about to arrive. Unfortunately DS is all excited and chatting to himself when he should be sleeping - he (and I) really needs the sleep though as he was up all night with a bad cough Sad. Oh well, he's pretty resilient so I'm sure he will be fine.

Must dash, hope you are all having a good day x

I feel like I have entered some sort of parallel universe...

Stillcounting · 01/10/2010 19:46

"Flying with passion was always in fashion ..."

[passes Lola a cocktail served in a coconut half, decorated with kitsch paper umbrella ]

MMmmm, flapjacks and wine are a suprisingly good combination ...

Just diving in and out. Delayed at work so
less flying than anticipated today but feeling chipper because dd has already done all her hwk for the weekend, her school uniform is washing as I type, my sink is shiny, dh is back and it's FRIDAY!!

Hope everyone's day went well and that everyone who is suffering (PA Toffee Ouch Sahara) feels better soon. And very sorry to hear about your dh's brother PushmePullyou that must be v. stressful for everyone.

Sahara main tenet of Flylady is system is little and often; short, sharp busts of focused activity etc hopefully leaving you loads more time to do more interesting things instead. No guilt, no perfectionism, no falling behind (just leap in where we are at). So if you have shined your sink today that's ALL you have to do! Enjoy!

Waves to everyone else!

Packed w/e ahead so will only be posting intermittently. Have a good one everyone!

finish morning routine, dw, wm etc done but need to shine sink again
more laundry done but not enough
do supermarket shop NOPE
stationery shop NOPE
fish shop done
guinea pig supplies NOPE
school run done
wash all brushes and combs in dettol done
generally carry a lot of things that are upstairs, downstairs, and vice versa done
wash school uniform doing
supper (fish tonight)done
DO NOT WASH TV BUT DO SOMETHING USEFUL LIKE DECLUTTERING HOME OFFICE FOR 45 MINS INSTEAD
early night er, wavering badly

Stillcounting · 01/10/2010 19:49

oh dear, that should have read "short, sharp buRsts" ... not busts ... which are more reminiscent of Madonna than Flylady Grin

swanriver · 01/10/2010 20:01

children have finished arguing over snap and now roaming round the house playing hide and seek...Hmm
so much for Friday then...

I am hiding too.

PositiveAttitude · 01/10/2010 20:56

welcome to Lola.

I have just had the most bizarre evening ever!! DD2 has been organising a surprise 18th birthday party for her friend, and I was given the job of keeping him out of the way for a few hours. It started fine, but I am absolutely the worst liar ever and have had to come out with the most ridiculous reasons for why I could not just drop him at home. He started off being very polite and nice, then was getting a bit stroppy, but really trying not to be, then I am sure he thought I had other ulterior motives Hmm Blush!!
I was so pleased to drop him off and escape!

My list has been done today, apart from the 2 major things on it ie: hotspot and coat cupboard... oh well, try again tomorrow.

Off now to watch the rugby on telly with feet up and a glass of something cold and nice. Wink
See you all tomnorrow. Grin

MrsDinky · 01/10/2010 21:14

Evening all,

A wet day for most of us it seems, lets hope the weather improves tomorrow. The funfair which appears across the road from us twice a year is here this weekend, and was more or less washed out tonight.

PA has got her feet up after holding an 18 year old male hostage for several hours tonight.

Swan is hopefully back out of hiding now. Sorry about the understairs reference, ours is one gigantic hotspot again too.

SC and EllieLola are having a Manilow moment

Ellie, sorry Lola is starting again

MiniM is eating flapjack for two

Nettie has got a puking cat and hence extra washing and is looking forward to spending the weekend in softplay places

Ouch is hopefully in bed early

SaharaS and Toffee have both been feeling poorly hopefuly they will feel better tomorrow

PMPY - good to have you back, sorry to hear about your BIL's health problems.

Desiretochange is ready to fight the clutter

Linzer had a nice long list today, hope you managed everything.

Waves to Darts, MissB, Nick, Bob, Feetheart, Tigger, Ihatecobwebs, Seeker, Pluto, Namechange100 anyone else out there?

Will quickly try and post links before going off to watch Strictly. How come there's been nothing decent on telly for months, and in the space of a week Masterchef, The Apprentice, Strictly are all starting, how am I ever going to fit it all in?

Look at that newbie Lola drinking sc's cocktails and looking like she owns the place just because she's got a shiny sink. Not sure I like her................

missbennett · 01/10/2010 22:31

Evening!
Better day at work today and boss being nicer :)
VERY wet and miserable here though - and decided too wet to walk into town to visit new TKMaxx :( So I will have to do that on Monday.
Tidied kitchen a bit but then DD2 walked loads of mud through Angry but at least she cleaned most of it up and I'm afraid I'm of the 'let it dry and then it can be troddenin hoovered up' school of thought Wink
Can't keep up with everyone tonight and I'm weary so off to bed soon Hmm

feetheart · 01/10/2010 22:44

Puking cats obviously the in thing today - boy cat threw up on DS's bed last night. DH and I sorted it all out without DS waking up at all - oh to be 4 :)

Loads of chat as usual, and I can't keep up as usual!

Have done MASSES of work today and finally feel as though I might be nearly caught up after the summer!
Have also done lots of Autumn Fayre stuff and the weekly shop so not bad at all. However haven't zapped shopping so still all over kitchen floor, washing up not done and kitchen hotspot is definitely an inferno.

Planning to put up posters/banners then hit charity shops with DD tomorrow. Will try and sort out kitchen first though (fails at first step emoticon needed :)) Ho hum

feetheart · 01/10/2010 22:46

Let me know what you think MissB, want to get in for a browse myself soon.

Sleep well all

OuchPassVodka · 02/10/2010 00:31

Am just tucked up in bed. stopped to for a brief visit with a friend. feel perkier and less stressed. dosed up of far more meds so kinda fuzzy headed. under strict instructions to sleep and rest. Having been driven mad doing nothing but rest today but couldnt sleep the plan for tomo is:

sleep until wake up (lunchtime hopefully)
laundry
shiny sink
bedroom decluttering
rubbish sweep
rest
watch and return dvd
shopping jobs.
ds' bedding - wash and remake ready for his return
early night

in what ever order i feel like.

Have read through, but brain is too fuzzy. giving myself 30mins max of mning time then going to bed.

LinzerTorte · 02/10/2010 06:16

An early start here this morning, as DD2 had a friend to stay the night and they must have set the alarm clock for around 6 am (waking DD1 too, who sleeps in the same room). I didn't actually have to get up, but it's hard to sleep when you can hear three chattering little girls running around. Why is it such a struggle to get them out of bed at 6.45 am during the week, but they're as lively as anything at 6 am at the weekend? (I think weekend is probably the key word here.) And they had a late night last night, as DH let them stay up to see part of the first Harry Potter film, which started about an hour after their normal bedtime (I went to bed before they did as I was so tired!).

Anyway, must try and get all those things done on my list that I didn't manage yesterday. I also want to try and get ahead on next week's decluttering, as I have a doctor's appointment on Monday morning as well as some work due to arrive.

Morning routine
15 min decluttering in kitchen
Invoices x2 done but need to send and can't get Internet to work on computer upstairs (where I have all my work-related stuff)
Get DH to sort out Internet connection (I tried and failed yesterday)
Food shopping
Make shopping list for London (just DH going, unfortunately)
Fill in medical history form
Buy DD2's arts and crafts supplies for school
Phone friend re birthday party
Birthday present for DD2's friend
Prepare English lesson for next Wednesday
Afternoon and evening routines
Discuss summer plans with DH (one evening we will be awake enough to do so)

Waves to all - sorry no time for personal messages as three girls have just appeared wanting breakfast, but hope everyone has a good weekend!

Toffeefudgecake · 02/10/2010 06:57

Good morning, Linzer and any other early risers. Also an early start here, as DS2 called for me several times in the night and eventually I just gave up sleeping. However, I have put the time to good use and done my entire week's menu planning and shopping online. Found this really useful website in another thread and am going to do one of their budget menus for the week and see how that goes down with our family.

Busy weekend here, as we are off to see MIL today and it's DS1's birthday outing with friends tomorrow.

PA - LOL at 18-yr old thinking you had ulterior motives. Must have thought his luck was in! Maybe you should namechange to Mrs Robinson Grin.

Ouch and Sahara - hope you are both feeling better today.

Can't keep up with all the names on here anymore, but just hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

PositiveAttitude · 02/10/2010 10:40

Toffee no way was the 18 yr old thinking his luck was in, if you saw me you'd see why Blush, more like trying to work out how he quickly he could run a mile!!!

Hope the poorlies amongst us are feeling better today.

I have just had a manic hour and have done as much as I will probably get done for the rest of the day. My friend who lives in Jersey has phoned to say she is coming to see me this morning (more notice would always be appreciated, but after being best friends for 35 years I dont think I will ever change her now!!) She has one baby and an immaculate house, hence a mad panic to get mine looking acceptable. Angry

So far I have:
Taken DS to tennis
Unloaded/loaded washing machine
Sorted out pile of clothes - well, shoved them in a basket and hidden the basket. Blush
Totally cleaned kitchen INCLUDING HOB
Cleaned out rabbits while it is not raining - I swear they could pooh for England!!
wrapped up friends birthday present
sorted covers on the lounge sofas

Coat cupboard update - had inspiration- told the DCs to go through their coats and take upstairs the ones they wanted to keep......nearly done without lifting a finger - GENIUSGrin!!

To do later:
Cook curry

Friend here got to go.....

Stillcounting · 02/10/2010 11:10

Morning all

Hope all those who are feeling ill manage to have a relaxing weekend.

Try not to pick up any more teenage lads this evening PA Wink

[looks over shoulder to see if Lola is lurking]

Thank you to MrsDinky for the steps and beautifully succinct round-up which nonetheless managed to get all the important bits in (now why can't I do that?) and included everyone's name - [SC tries to tame butterfly mind]

Btw, I don't think there are any missions at the weekend, thank heavens, just the steps ....

Newbies - I know it sounds mad - but I must be one of the few on here (with Ouch) who actually does find the lace-up shoe thing quite useful. Doesn't make any difference when I'm working, but it signals "action" on my days off and stops me from returning to my default position (curling up on the sofa to read a book!!). My feet look more respectable as a consequence too.

Dh is doing the ballet run this morning so unlike Linzer and Toffee I have had quite a calm morning.

And even better, I found the following note from dd on my breakfast plate this morning apologising for her rather "challenging" behaviour of late (she is learning to write in Flemish at school but can read in English so the words are Dutch-influenced interpretations of English ones!!). She also pronounces her "r's" as "w's" which adds to the 'interesting' spelling:

"deerjer mama, I'm sori date I woz howerbel to joe so dis is wij i sendid joo at brekfist dis lovli brief en a prezent. love from, [dd]
fozenzens of kisis xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

(brief = letter)

With it was a drawing of a rather deranged looking rabbit ...

They are both going straight in her treasure box ... a much improved start to the day!

To do
unpack and pack dh's case for week ahead
a veritable mountain of washing to sort, wash and iron
collect dh's shirts from laundry (I cheated this wk)
guinea pig supplies
stationery shop
food shop
polish dd's jodphur boots
a bit of a poke around the shops whilst remembering we are trying to economise
afternoon routine

Thanks for recipe link Toffee - very timely as have friends coming to supper and haven't decided what I am cooking yet. Hope they are not expecting anything fancy ...

Oh yes and I made a small step towards serious decluttering yesterday when I booked a "table" at a charity second-hand baby and dc clothes sales yesterday on October 23. Always hoped we would have more dc but it's not to be, so a bit Sad Sad Sad to be getting rid of all of dd's things, but a good cause and hopefully I'll feel better afterwards!!

Oh and for those of you with puking cats .... very occasionally (don't ask me how) guinea pigs find their way in to dd's bed Confused They don't puke but are a little unreliable in the continence department ...not sure which is worse tbh ...always necessitates a bed change anyway!!!

Have a great w/e everyone!

Stillcounting · 02/10/2010 11:15

x posts PA

Very clever coat strategy - I'm going to nick it!

GPs poo for English too [sigh]

OuchPassVodka · 02/10/2010 11:37

Sounds like you have all been very busy this morning.
PA: have you assertained from dd2 that you are not going to have to disappear said nearly 18yo like that again? If not make sure you do.

sleep until wake up (lunchtime hopefully)11:30ish am thus done
laundry
shiny sink
bedroom decluttering
rubbish sweep
rest
watch and return dvd
shopping jobs.
ds' bedding - wash and remake ready for his return
early night

I have just been scared by a window cleaner. It sounded like someone was inside the house with me. thankfully it was just the sound of someone putting the ladder against the wall. taken name and number to pass on to he who makes decisions re house stuff - gutter clearing quote.

But i looked at the damage of having been poorly for a few days so i am going to revise my list a bit.

crisis cleaning is needed it is hideous down there Blush however i am sleepy and as the prescription for the doc was as much sleep as possible i might just roll over and go back to sleep. hopefully migraine will be completely gone by tomo. depsite not getting the meds til tuesday.

seeker · 02/10/2010 12:14

Well, I have baked and decorated 75 cup cakes this morning - so nothing else has happened. There's always this afternoon!
