Welcome to the October 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here!

Many thanks to our September thread leader StillCounting for guiding us through the traumatic back to work and school period with lots of support and guidance!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Time for another coffee, I think - the effects of this morning's two cups are starting to wear off. Sorry to hear that I'm not the only one suffering from a lack of sleep - at least my tiredness is down to DH's early start rather than anything else. I hope you're starting to feel better now PA, that your headache has cleared up SC (an Austrian would tell you it was caused by your weird weather - DH always gets a headache when the weather is about to change) and that the pain relief for your migraine gets sorted out soon Teasing.

tigger A belated happy birthday; sounds like you had a lovely day. Smile

Well, my check-up results were about what I'd expected - I have to up my dose of iron, should take more exercise (but I didn't need a blood test to tell me that) and am allergic to something, so am having more blood tests to find out what exactly (I'm already fairly sure that I'm allergic to dust and cat hair - particularly at my ILs for some reason). The work I was expecting arrived five minutes after I got home (just giving me time to put the slow cooker on); I managed to finish it and send it off while the DDs were at their piano lesson, so am looking forward to a nice quiet evening and early night now. Famous last words...

I really should make a list as I'm having a bit of a CBA day now that I've finished my work - but quite frankly, I CBA. Must make sure the DDs get their homework done and that I get the DC to tidy up after themselves (or more likely, that I tidy up after them) as they go along so that I don't have to spend ages doing it once they're in bed. And I AM going to have an early night tonight.

TeasingFireDragons · 04/10/2010 15:51

house looking slightly better, it was the worth the tedious slog effort

Nettie I thnk you are allowed a rest, you seem to spend all day being incredibly energeticEnvy

Linzer I think you are too! not a case of CBA just WDR [well deserved rest]

ds2 doing his homework on shiny kitchen table, children so impressed by hall that they actually put their shoes in the basket. On the other hand ds1 has already broken ds2's lego airport construction and the piano stool is upside down Hmm
loud music playing to keep us energised!

swanriver · 04/10/2010 16:24

now that house in general a bit tidier, feel like I can face a few cupboards and drawers - perhaps thats the key, tidy/surface clean first then sort after..as long as the clutter is not overwhelming.
[but unfortunately it usually is Biscuit
then deep clean if one is not MIA

TeasingFireDragons · 04/10/2010 18:12

I am happy i have done a fair bit, i havent slept today so i am now struggling to keep my eyes open. I havent had any caffine and have been pain killer free.

There has been some good flying done today, hopefully people are having restful evenings.

See you in the morning. - although training in theory so limited time for flying.

Toffeefudgecake · 04/10/2010 18:17

Very busy today - took DS2 to school (he cried all the way and said he wanted to 'rewind' to nursery. He also said "I'm only a little child! I'm too little for school" Sad). Then visited DS2's prospective new secondary (very impressive). Whisked DS2 back to school, then had half an hour at home before a quick trip down to the dump (some decluttering going on!) then out for lunch with DH (rare treat). Home to tackle the kitchen, then it was time for the school run, a trip down to the drs for DC's various minor ailments, detour to the chemist's and home. Phew.

Went through our accounts. Will be budget meals again this month. Maybe I should try the Flylady money management system sometime, but it would help if I had some money to manage Sad.

Nothing done in the house, as a result, but I have just had a look at today's mission and might have a go at the bin whilst I'm cooking tonight's meal (cheesy broccoli pasta from the resourceful cook website).

DH is in our bedroom, finally clearing out his laundry basket and lots of clutter. I'm very glad he's doing it but it's making him very bad tempered, so I'm making myself scarce.

Sorry for lack of personal messages, but glad to see so much activity on here. Must go and cook now....

MrsDinky · 04/10/2010 21:21

Evening all,

Quick roundup as DHneeds to use the computer for work, and posting from the Ipad is very slow (esp. when it comes to links and asterisks).

Linzer and PA were early birds today, PA hope you pain has eased

Bob - I'm getting the urge to get a dog too, never had one, but always hankered after one.

Tigger - welcome back

Teasing - I too have spent far too much time reading a certain very busy thread in the last 24 hours

Swan has made progress on her curtains, which is more than I have done

Nettie is off to see Thomas this week, have fun!

Toffee Sad at DS and school, sounds like a very busy day

SC - alas I cannot be convinced re the benefits of guinea pigs either.

Waves at everyone else

TeasingFireDragons · 04/10/2010 21:48

MrsD - it'll be about the same here. i am sure i have a bench somewhere but not sure i have seen it since before this medicine nonsense started.

pushmepullyou · 04/10/2010 22:12

Evening all

PA so sorry to hear about your DC1 Sad. I can't even begin to imagine what you went through. Very impressed by the 5 DC though

SC you may be right about the psychic connection - I didn't sleep either last night. Hoping for better thins tonight!

swanriver I still can't bring myself to tackle my cupboard of doom.

toffee your poor DS, I bet he will be fine once he's had a bit of time to settle in though

Hope everyone poorly/in pain feels better soon

Quite a productive day here, so quite pleased with myself

Dishwasher - done
Washing - done
Clean washing away - mostly done
ironing - mostly done (moreorless a lifetime first for me!)
Clean bin - done
tidy toys - done
sweep kitchen floor - done

I know I am putting off mopping the kitchen floor though - I hate hate hate it. DH usually does it but is generally on brother phone care duty in the evening at the moment so unable to contribute to household chores.

Big wave and sleep well to everyone Smile

I'm off to bed!

BobLoblaw · 04/10/2010 22:16

Hope your cat is ok Nettie I always wanted to go to ThomasLand but it's too far from us, have a lovely time.

I've got a few cupboards to tackle too Swan but it's nice to feel a bit more on top of everything.

I had guinea pigs as a child SC but a fox got them and we found them in the garden :( I'm too worried that would happen here.

I don't have an upstairs ellie Envy if anyone comes here and wants to use the toilet they see everything, I did once resort to shoving everything down the side of our bed Blush

Hope you're ok PA

LinzerTorte · 05/10/2010 07:30

Good morning,

Must get back on track today after yesterday's busy morning and CBA afternoon/evening (I do like the sound of WDR swan, but don't think I can get away with using it too often!). I didn't even look at yesterday's mission so will try to do two today.

Today's list:

Post birthday card done
Baker's done
Morning routine
15 min decluttering
Missions
Send school photo to grandparents
Finish letter
Help DD2 find pictures of animals for school
Afternoon and evening routines

As I know from experience that my morning routine will take me all morning unless I stay focused, I'd better get on with it and off MN (have spent far too much time on here the last few days).

Hope everyone has a good day. Smile

TeasingFireDragons · 05/10/2010 08:00

The hokey cokey Nettie? Grin surely if they are lurking then we need to drag them into doing the birdy song Wink

Another day with the meds i need. Am surposed to be training today but at the momement I cant even stand up without wanting to be sick. So i think I might have to cancel. :( Gutted as i was supposed to be working on a new jump and getting my sit spin to sit.

plan:
survived day
dw
wm
ds' lunch
school run x2
tea
bed

Must go throw clothes at breakfast at child...

Stillcounting · 05/10/2010 08:11

Morning all

Just popping in to put "my left leg in and my right leg out" very briefly.

Hope everyone is OK (although TeasingD you are obviously still suffering - wishing you and anyone else who is ill a speedy recovery)

I'm fine but have a migraine without symptoms (controlled by meds) so I'm trying to keep away from screens as much as poss.

Thanks for round-up and links MrSD
Bob [sniff] Sad your guinea pigs
Linzer actually, I think your dh is right, significant pressure changes always give me a headache!

Mahoosive waves to everyone else ...

PS guinea pigs much more like mini-horses than traditional rodents ...trust me ...you'll be smitten!

MrsDinky · 05/10/2010 09:08

Morning all,

Sounds like there are quite a few poorly people around the thread at th emoment, hope everyone is feeling better soon.

I need to get back to making lists, the habit dropped away over the school hols and I haven't got it back. Morning routine was done today, just got back from school.

Today

Hoover up and down
Dust front room
Excavate clean kitchen counters
Clean bath and basin
2 x washing
Take DCs to tennis and ballet after school
Dinner is already cooked, cooked lamb shanks in the slow cooker on Sunday, then decided to go for pizza instead, so they have been improving with age in the fridge. Lamb shanks are one of the bst things I have found so far for slow cooking.

Our upstairs is relatively safe as the only toilet is downstairs it tends to only be the DCs friends that go up there unless we have overnight visitors. Managed to get DH to clear his clothes mountain the other day, so I have no excuse no to hoover up there now.

Anyway, I am procrastinating, must go.

Good Morning all,

I haven't deserted, just had a few hectic days such that I've simply flaked in the evenings.

Anyway, hello to PA, SC, MrsD, Nettie, Linzer, Toffee, swan, Ellie, bob, ouch, PMPY (impressed with the ironing, btw), MissB, and anyone I've missed (it's not deliberateSmile)

Yesterday, my road home was closed due to an accident, resulting in severe stress as I was 10 minutes late at school collecting the dcs plus friend. Ended up with a bad case of CBA, but still managed to sort papers for committee meeting, washing, dinner, and evening routine.

Today:
Morning routine done
Work (definitely a case of work related CBA, that I'm dealing with....Grin)
shopping on way home (dp collecting dcs)
print papers for meeting
book blood donor session
attend meeting
evening routine
dishwasher
buy new shower onine for electrician to install.

I know it's only Tuesday, but roll on the weekend..........
