Welcome to the September 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here! )

Many thanks to our previous splendiforous thread leader Ellie for guiding us through July and August and to her dynamic deputy, the one and only PA. You've both made it a lot of fun!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Evening all,

Phew, what a busy day. Husband incapacitated for most of it but I have:-

finished school shopping
Washing/ironing/putting away (no dirty laundry in this house Shock)
Cooked roast chicken dinner
Washed up from dinner
Baked a chocolate cake with DC's this afternoon
Kept house tidy.

Still have to :-
Bathe and bed DC's
Clothes out for tomorrow
DD's bag packed for CM
School work
My clothes out for tomorrow
Bathe me
Alarm set for 6 ShockSad.

I am not that bothered about going back to work because I know as soon as I get back it will just be back to normal. However I am a little Sad about the end of the summer because I have had time to spend with my DC's and it has been wonderful. I have also been able to fly and I can confidently say my house is the tidiest it has ever been at the end of the holidays (it was september last year I joined this thread!).

Anyway, am going to bathe the DC's. Might not be back tonight as have a lot to do so see you all in the morning.

DidEinsteinsMum · 05/09/2010 18:11

Right that's better and i need another list:

PE kit bag fully made up (t-shirt, pumps, shorts) done
Lunch (sandwiches, apple, cake, drink)
book bag done
uniform done
Alarm set of 6:30am (thanks for reminding me ellie)
bathe Ds

my day seems to be full of lists, I must get around to sorting out my control journal. Maybe I should put that on tomo's list Hmm

Ellie hope dh is ok,
Namechange - well done on keeping flying. If i'm not on here it is kinda out of sight out of mind. must get more organised Blush
bob i am awful and slow in mornings too, ds hits the ground running Hmm

*Waves at everyone else>

elliepac · 05/09/2010 18:59

I need wine precisely because it is a school night Grin.

DidEinsteinsMum · 05/09/2010 19:03

Grin been sorting fb out. So much hassle. so easy to lose time on it. ds has fallen asleep on the lounge floor. guess i dont have to worry about him having a late night Grin

Stillcounting · 05/09/2010 19:20

Evening all

[Pours out large glass of red for Ellie and everyone else who is partaking - I think I'll pass as I've imbibed quite a bit over the past 24 hrs ...]

Phew! Haven't stopped all day. Slightly frantic morning but lunch turned out to be rather good and relaxing even though I say it myself - very simple - chickens and salads and we ate outside because summer seems to have returned temporarily.

Have cleared up for second time - chucked dd in the bath - uniform sorted - ironing and shoe polishing done - and now I have to get cracking on more book covering and labelling for tomorrow + a new series of House starts tonight - yipppeee!!!

Well done, top marks DEM you are certainly organised for tomorrow - thanks for the nibbles

Top marks to Ellie for " I can confidently say my house is the tidiest it has ever been at the end of the holidays " - well done!!! - a testament to all your efforts - you get the tan-tight and denim tabard award of the day! Hope tomorrow goes well ....

Slugbrains - crikey - your Sunday wasn't exactly relaxing was it - even thinking ahead to Christmas - top marks to you too!

Namechange - good to see you - hope you feel better tomorrow - perhaps an early night is in order with a hot toddy

Waves to Boblob

You lot are making me rather worried ... you are all Flying incredibly high - I can see I am going to have to pull my socks up and get back on here early tomorrow ...[not worthy leader emoticon] Blush

Massive waves to PA Feetheart MrsD Mini-M MummyD Pluto Optimistic MissB Linzer and everyone I've inevitably missed.

See you in the morning ....

DidEinsteinsMum · 05/09/2010 19:22

sorry forgot to warn you SC slugs and DEM are the one and the same.

elliepac · 05/09/2010 20:09

dem you do keep confusing poor sc Grin.

NickOfTime · 05/09/2010 20:11

my living room and dining room are spick and span Grin

i am, however, trying not to think too hard about any of the guests from last night that may have needed to use the bathroom... that might be today's job....

not a school night here as it's a bank holiday tomorrow (they've been back at school for a week and already have a day off!) but i'll pass on the wine and head straight into the whisky offered earlier. Wink but i might wait until tonight as it's only lunchtime Grin

dw has been seriously overworked, but all that's left is a few glasses and two serving dishes.

and get the red wine and caramel out of the tablecloth...

i'm going to spend the bank holiday tomorrow shampooing the carpets though... i've been putting it off for so long.

hope school goes well for all returning tomorrow! x

jollydiane · 05/09/2010 20:21

I think I am in the wrong place. I was looking for a bar, however since you seem a nice lot what can I clean my 'self clean' oven with. The oven seems to have lost its instuctions and is refusing to self clean.

Also any tips for shiny taps?

DidEinsteinsMum · 05/09/2010 20:47

Well i'd provide sc with a list of the names i use but at last count there was over 30 so her poor head might explode Grin

sorry SC

MiniMarmite · 05/09/2010 20:55

oh dear, I was doing ok but the house looks positively shambolic after this weekend, especially as DH has taken everything out of the dishwasher so he can seek out a piece of broken glass in it and I have about 3 loads of dry washing that need homes/ironing.

On the plus side I had a nap today, went out for DS, DH and lovely friends and picked apples and blackberries...

Glad you are back to being DEM, DEM, I always worry about you when you are Slugs!

I will report back when my house is cleaner (and I am having less fun)!

Mini list for tomorrow (have a child-free day on Tues so that will be the day for proper cleaning:

wash kitchen floor
sort washing
make sure dishwasher is sorted (ie nag)

MiniMarmite · 05/09/2010 21:01

Just realised that SC is back as our esteemed leader Grin, thanks SC and thanks Ellie for leading us so well over the past several months (and sorry for being a naughty truant) xxx

Dartsissolastseason · 05/09/2010 21:48

Hello all.

Well, today went for a burton! Spent most of last night clearing/cleaning up after two dcs being sick all over bathroom, and we think it's not connected (ds has a tummy problem, and dd probably has nerves prior to school residential trip tomorrow).

Still, managed to get two loads of washing done, evening uniform/sandwich/workclothes done (although wearing jeans tomorrow while I box up more of the office).

Kids in bed, dp did dishwasher and gave me lots of hugs, and I'm now heading off to bed for a nice 6am start. At least, ds wants to help me hoover tomorrow after school! Grin

Pluto · 05/09/2010 22:05

What a wake up call today has been. I really hope it's not setting the standard for the rest of term...

I have

done 2 loads in w/m and reduced the ironing heap by half but I've still got about 10 shirts to do though

Cooked roast chicken and a casserole for tomorrow

hoovered downstairs

got kitchen looking lovely and things laid out for tomorrow's breakfast

spent all the rest of the day doing school work :( :( :(

I am really fed up that I haven't spent any quality time with DH or the DCs today.

Nettiespagetti · 05/09/2010 22:37

Good morning all. Don't worry, I'm not doing a Thatcher - am an hr ahead of UK here and I have to be up because it's back to work for me today (p/t)Sad

OK

Baby-step number 6 today is an important one: hotspots Tackle them for two-mins each. (It's where miscellaneous clutter accumulates attracting other clutter in its wake eg I have two - one is a basket in the kitchen full of batteries, plastic pots of old bubble mix, cocktail sticks, bits of Playmobil and the other is papers on the dining room table.)

And our zone for all of this week up to and inc. Fri is: the kitchen

This is the detailed cleaning plan (if you want it) ici!

Monday is the day which Flylady designates for us to do the "weekly home blessing hour" - yucky saccharine title for basic clean all over - if you are up to that stage. You may want to do it on a different day. More info here As ever, adapt it to suit yourself.

Have a good one everybody! See you later!

Morning all,

It's a big day for DD2 as she starts school today. DH has taken the day off work, we've packed her Schultüte and she has picked out a dress to wear (she did so yesterday morning as she's so excited).

Neither she nor DD1 will be at school for much more than an hour today; after a church service, they'll only be in the classroom for around 20 minutes and we'll be back home just after 10 am (although I suspect we might end up going for an ice cream). So I won't have a great deal of time to get much done today, although I'm determined to start doing my 15 minutes of decluttering every day - I need to find some way of counteracting all the clutter that comes into the house!

The washing seems to be never-ending atm too; I did four loads yesterday and have another one to do this morning. I feel like I spent all of yesterday either washing/ironing/putting clothes away or tidying up, although I did manage to sort through some of the DC's clothes as well and passed some on to a friend.

SC 80 euros on school supplies! Shock I thought it was bad enough here - I spent around 100 euros but it was on both DDs, plus DD2's bag cost over 150 euros (but should do her for the whole four years of primary school - and my PIL actually paid for it, as it seems to be a tradition here for the GPs to buy the school bag). We've bought a roll of adhesive book covering film and I think of you whenever I see it! Luckily we only need to use it to cover a few text books, as we use slip-on covers (thank goodness) to cover the dozens of exercise books the DDs need.

Have a good day everyone. Smile

LinzerTorte · 06/09/2010 05:16

x posts SC - thanks for the links. I now feel inspired to make a list of things I need to do in the kitchen (I know from experience that if I don't make a list, I won't do it):

15 min decluttering
Mission
Empty and clean fridge

I know we're not supposed to move on to detailed cleaning until we've finished decluttering, but quite frankly I'm not sure my decluttering will ever be finished and I'll never get round to cleaning the fridge otherwise.

Right, must stop waffling and get on!

Stillcounting · 06/09/2010 05:29

A warm welcome to Jollydiane. If you wandered on here searching for a bar, you are our kinda girl Grin
Best oven cleaner I have found is from Lakeland.
And believe it or not, Fat Fairy provides 12-point step-by-step instructions on how to shine your taps here!

Hope your dcs are better today Dart

NO probs, DEM , I am generally confused anyway Grin Confused and I had a suspicion that you and Mucky and Slug were one and the same and queried it yesterday or day before, I forget which. Was hedging my bets!

Don't get despondent Pluto - it WILL get better I promise - I know all the amount of admin you have to do is crushing but the Flylady system should help you to do minimum necessary in very focused way to get everything done. If not, at least we can all groan aobut it on here together! Grin Good luck today!

And to you Ellie on your first day back

Hope no ill-effects for your ds today Nettie

Helloooo to MiniM!

Nick virtuous of you to shampoo carpets on a bank holiday - hope you get some leisure time too

Safe trip Nettie

Forgot to give you ladies sneak peak of the week if you are interested: [[

Linzer as to the slip-on covers we are supposed to be using, the notebooks are Belgian, the covers are French, and - you guessed it - they don't quite fit! Double arrrrggghhhh!!!

Morning. Very bleary eyed this morning. Dd is clearly so excited about going back to cm's today that she wokeup at half one chanting the cm's name. She NEVER wakes up in the night ( I know I am lucky in that respect) so why choose the night before I go back to work! Suppose I should be thankful she is happy there.

Today's list is simple:-

Survive work
Evening routine (ds not back till tomorrow when he starts at his new junior school)
Collapse in a heap

Good luck to linzer's dd and anyone else who is back/starting today.

Have a good day everyone

Morning :)

Dd and myself are practising having to be up, dressed, beds made, washing up done, washing machine on, bathroom s&s before we have to leave to take ds to the bus at 8 Shock I can see this is going to take a while to get used to.

Eeek I've been dreading doing the kitchen but it does really need doing.

Today

-Morning routine done
-Hoover
-15 minutes on dd and ds room done
-Load charity shop things in to car
-Pay mobile and home phone done
-Make pie
-15 minutes declutter on kitchen

Does anyone who works have any tips on keeping up with everything? I don't work atm but dd is starting school and I'm staying with her so won't have as much time at home during the day.

Hope work is ok stillcounting and elliepac and dds first day at school goes well Linzer
