Welcome to the September 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here! )

Many thanks to our previous splendiforous thread leader Ellie for guiding us through July and August and to her dynamic deputy, the one and only PA. You've both made it a lot of fun!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Hi Ladies

I'm having a lovely day at home with DS today. The cleaners came this morning so that house is mostly spick and span but I think I might have them come a bit less frequently for the moment as I'm able to keep things in better order now that I'm not at work and it seems like a bit of a waste of money...I'm sure I will need them again when the baby arrives (once I've remembered how to give birth and all that Grin).

PA I hope all goes well at DD4's appointment today (and that you get the bike out of the hallway).

Thanks for summarising the leadership meeting outcome SC - if only things were so calm in UK politics!

Well today is just washing and general maintenance of tidiness. I have big plans tomorrow for more decluttering and hoovering under the beds and behind cupboards (no lifting I promise)! DH are also going out to one of our favourite restaurants tonight Grin.

Have a good day everyone x

PositiveAttitude · 29/09/2010 15:27

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your best wishes and hugs from mrsD.

swan - hope your DH's biopsy goes ok. Get some painkillers in for the night after - he'll need them!!

ouch hope you feel better soon.

MM - have a fantastic evening while you can.

Sorry for confusion, my mainland trip is tomorrow. There is no worry about DD4, its just a yearly check-up that her hips are still in place after a huge op 7 years ago. I always feel its a waste of time, but fun to go shopping. I have a list from all the DCs for their requirements. We have been given a stupid appointment at 9.15, which means stupid oclock start as I need to allow 2.5 hours to get to the hospital, hey ho!! BUT on the positive side, more time for shopping afterwards. Grin (and lunch, of course!!)

Have a good day everyone.

Waves to Linzer SC MissB Toffee darts and everyone else.

MrsDinky · 29/09/2010 17:55

Evening all,

I have started an October thread

October Thread.

Well done to PA and Darts for finding it within 5 minutes and 1 hour respectively before I had even linked it.

PA - hope you have a smooth crossing and a nice day with DD4 tomorrow.

Darts - well done for choosing your school, I imagine that's a relief.

Back later, will stick to this thread till tomorrow.

Hi all

Quick 20 mins between supper and putting dd to bed. Got loads done this morning but afternoon was a bit of a train wreck. Had stupidly forgotten about the minor detail of a 100,000+ public sector workers demonstrating in Brussels centre about impending austerity measurements and resulting public transport strike!! Wasted 30 mins driving around trying to get to ballet but all the traffic had been diverted and routes cordoned off by the police and then spent another 45 mins trying to get home again (a 10-min trip usually)! Hey ho, the price of freedom and free speech and all that and dd quite enjoyed the novelty of it!

AM
morning routine with dw on, wm on done
round up dhs dirty socks and shirts that he has thrown on the floor , herd in to corner and pounce! done with seething resentment
sort more laundry done
pick up detritus from master bedroom floor done
master swipe done
tackle bathroom done
more laundry - need to do more
quick tidy of sitting room (I won't be doing mission today - a bit overwhelming) but I will be clearing hotspots done
school run done
prepare and eat lunch done

PM
AFTER LUNCH
ballet run waste of time and petrol
on-line order NOPE
clear home office desk NOPE
general tidy up of landing and hall half done
more laundry NOPE
phone calls/appointments NOPE
newspaper recycling done
clean out guinea pigs done
afternoon routine done
supper done
Master chef
early night

PA Safe trip tomorrow - enjoy your shopping - and take it easy when you get home!

Hi Mini - you sound very cheery and on top of things (well done!) - hope you have a lovely evening tonight. UK politics definitely more settled than Belgian variety btw!!! We've had an interim gov since elections in June owing to Flemish and Walloon in-fighting and that came after 6 months with no government at all! No one can agree on anything! Hopeless!

Well done Ouch for ploughing on ...your lists are always so much more interesting than mine ...sorry coffee was cancelled but at least your lounge is clean! Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Love the title Dinky Perhaps just as well that cobwebs aren't mentioned - we don't want to frighten Toffee away!! Grin

'Tis still VERY good of you Ellie! Noted about January.

Swan hope all goes well with your dh's biopsy. Wish you could send the kale here - I love the stuff!! Totally sympathise though - dh is the gourmand in our household and he is always tinkering with my meal plans, adding a course, or making a different sauce or cooking something else entirely (drives me mad!) which is not only expensive but delays everything and then dd goes to bed late and is cranky in the morning which of course he doesn't get to endure! Rant over!

Waves to Feetheart Bob Nettie ¨Darts IhateCobwebs Tigger and everyone I've missed!

Cannot believe it's the last day of the month tomorrow! You should be proud of yourselves; you've all flown beautifully!

Toffeefudgecake · 29/09/2010 19:28

Definitely a cba day today. Actually had a whole school day to myself and did bugger all (maybe spent a bit too long on MN Blush.

Must do better tomorrow.

PA - that is rotten news. Hope your neck feels better soon and that the results are good Sad.

Swan - hope DH's biopsy goes ok tomorrow.

Still - your long list puts me to shame.

Ouch - hope you feel better soon.

Waves to MrsM, Darts, Linzer, Ellie and all the other Fledglings.

Toffeefudgecake · 29/09/2010 19:29

Oh, and thanks for starting the new thread, MrsD!

LinzerTorte · 29/09/2010 19:48

Feeling much better this evening, but still haven't done anything much in the way of flying, but at least DH has cooked today's and tomorrow's dinners as he was at home today. I will be back with a list tomorrow morning, though!

PA So sorry to hear the appointment didn't go quite the way you were expecting and that you have to play the waiting game again. Thinking of you and sending lots of positive vibes your way.

Toffee An uninterrupted lunch is not to be underrated. Smile

swan Hope your DH's biopsy goes well (or as well as a biopsy can go).

Ouch Hope you're feeling better soon.

MiniM I wish I'd had a cleaner when the DC were born; it would have been a godsend. Mind you, I was too sleep-deprived at the time (with DD1 especially) to really notice the state of the house!

MrsD Thanks for the shiny new thread; I've just been over to post on it.

SC I was talking to a friend earlier about the strikes in Brussels as her DH works there most of the week - sounds like it must be quite a disruption. I hope it all sorts itself out soon before the novelty starts to wear off for your DD!

Off to bed now for an early night with a good book (I managed to fall asleep for most of the morning so didn't get quite as much reading done as I'd hoped).

OuchPassVodka · 29/09/2010 20:37

feeling off managed to get one or two more bits done but it is getting a bit of a pattern that lots gets done in the morning and nothing in afternoon or evening. I havent done the school night routine. but i am so tired i don care. I'd rather get up a bit earlier tomo and do it then. Ds is tucked up and so am i so hoping for a restful night so all feels better tomo. I have read through but remember little except seeker doesnt wear shoes inside not even for the fat fairy - but that is for next month.

I hope everyone has a lovely evening and will cathc up tomo. night.

MrsDinky · 29/09/2010 20:46

Feeling quite productive today.

Gym - done
Top up shopping - done
Top to toe clean of bathroom - done
Washing - done
Bins - emptied
Go through DDs entire wardrobe (no mean feat, she has more clothes than all the rest of us put together) and sorted everything into Keep (summer, put away), Keep in wardrobe (winter), NCT sale, rag bin, charity shop, bag for friend. Started labelling NCT sale stuff.
Visit friend for coffee - done
Cook tea (mouusaka and all the trimmings, greek salad etc)
Bake flapjacks - done and mostly eaten
Help DS with homework - done
Make tomorrows packed lunches - done
Start new thread - done

Linzer - glad you're feeling better

SC - how annoying, the traffic thing

MiniM - hello and welcome back
Swan - good luck to DH for biopsy
PA - ditto, and LOL about the bike and the coat cupboard
Toffee - never mind about the CBA, we all get those days (well, I certainly do)
Ouch - hope you are feeling better
ELlie - that's good news about your sister.

Stillcounting · 29/09/2010 22:41

Just on my way to bed

[correction from earlier post - austerity "measurements" should have been austerity "measures" Blush]

Thanks for new thread Dinky. You are positively soaring atm! Well done! (Am rooting for Ben the Frenchman on MC)

Ouch sounds as if you are adapting Fat Fairy system to suit yourself which is exactly right. I'd be worried if you were doing chores all day - Fly system is designed to avoid that I think.

Glad you are on the mend Linzer. Everything meant to be back to normal here tomorrow.

Toffee everyone needs and deserves a cba day from time to time!

Goodnight all. I always know when I am going to bed too late because my guinea pigs turn in before I do! It really cracks me up that they have a set bed-time ....

Good morning lovely Fledglings

Be proud! You've survived the return to school and work and made it through another entire cycle of steps and missions.

There are two remaining baby-steps and only one day left in September ...so here they are

Baby step no. 30 here! Check your calendar for next month.

Baby step no. 31
here! You don't have to completely understand the system in order to start doing it... all will become clear.

Last day of being in zone 4, the sitting room here!

Today's mission is here and concerns dusting your knick-knacks

Thursday is errand day and here are the rreminders

Well done Fledglings for getting that bit closer to the edge of the nest!

Have a good day everyone!

[snaffles a couple of jammy dodgers]

lol Nettie! Good luck with your list today!

feetheart · 30/09/2010 07:10

Quick post again so apologies for lack of personal messages.
SC - thank you so much for leading us through September's chaos with style and humour and thanks to MrsD for taking us on through October. I REALLY have to get a grip next month as Mum turns up on 25th and this house needs to Look Good Shock

Going to be a bit of a theme today but have spent lots of time sorting out work this week and now need to concentrate on Autumn Fayre - 10 days and counting Shock Shock

  • Morning routine
  • Quick meet up to discuss Autumn Fayre with someone
  • Photocopying stuff for Autumn Fayre to get out to parents tomorrow
  • Stuff in Staff room for Autumn Fayre
  • More posters up
  • Lamb stew in slow cooker
  • Repair banners and put up
  • Bit of a blitz on living room as have ignored it so far this week Blush Will do it in 15 min bursts and see where I get
  • Afternoon routine - work out what it is again and DO it!
  • DS to swimming
  • DS bathed and both DC in bed at sensible time
  • Evening routine
  • Early night

SC - DH and I rooting for Ben too, though possibly for different reasons Grin

LinzerTorte · 30/09/2010 07:51

Thanks for today's links SC and for your words of wisdom throughout September; you've been a fabulous leader. Grin

It's back to normal here today, much as I'd be tempted to retire to bed with a good book again - I don't think I can live with the chaos for much longer, however! The washing machine is on and I'm already up to date with my decluttering thanks to the fact that I got a head start at the weekend (just in case I was snowed under with work - I wasn't counting on being ill), but I'm hoping to catch up with the week's missions today if I have time.

Today's list:

Morning routine
Mission(s)
15 min decluttering
Pay house costs/council tax
Pay membership fees
Invoice x2
Make shopping list for tomorrow
Fill in medical history form for appointment on Monday
Afternoon/evening routine

Ouch I am also quite good at getting lots of things done in the morning (work permitting) but next to nothing in the afternoons and evenings. I think I'm just going to have to face up to the fact that the mornings are my only most productive time, try to get most of my list done then and make a determined effort to stick to my afternoon and evening routines.

elliepac · 30/09/2010 07:55

Morning all! Chaos here this morning. Cm is on holiday for a week from today and that means on grandma is coming to pick up dd and the other one ds! No flying at all yesterday, I think I am waiting till the start of October to get cracking again. Back later!

MiniMarmite · 30/09/2010 09:14

Morning Ladies,

Where did September go?! Thanks for leading us through it all SC, Brussels demo sounds like a nightmare.

Lovely and sunny here today but freezing cold.

MrsD it sounds like you were a veritable domestic goddess yesterday flapjacks AND Moussaka etc, yummy!

Linzer, well yes, you may well have a point about the cleaners and despite everything being quite clean and tidy before the came yesterday, it was really sparkly after they had gone!

On my list for today:

  • empty and reload dishwasher
  • washing on
  • ironing and putting away
  • take shopping delivery (and remember to return bags)
  • singing lesson
  • do something ham-like with a gammon joint
  • vacuum under beds and remove all drawers from storage unit and vacuum under/behind it.
  • look at some carpets and order samples Grin
  • cook dinner
  • some sort of exercise (walk or swimming)
  • collect DS from CM

Have a good day all x

OuchPassVodka · 30/09/2010 09:14

feeling really rough again this morning. migraine threatening so have crawled back into bed. Have an alarm set so i can get to doctors appointment on time. Going to rest this morning and see what happens.

Dartshasbegun · 30/09/2010 09:35

Good Morning Ladies, and thanks for the help to a newcomer like me! (Especially now that I've had the advice on posting rules.....Smile).

ouch can sympathise with the migraine, as DP gets them badly, and we're worried that DD is beginning to develop them too Sad. As 5 of 7 of her closest relatives on DP's side (inc DP) all have migraines, I think it's very likely she will, too.

Good morning to SC, ellie, Nettie, bob, Linzer, MrsD, Minimarmite, Toffee, swan and all.

Last night I managed to get a chance to try the recipe of the week, the plum and almond thingy. Mmmmmmmm, and it tastes good cold too.

So, I cleared yesterday's list (as posted on other thread.
Today:
Morning routine done
Work (remembering my ID pass today Blush)in progress
called MIL ref school assembly done
collect 5 kids from school
feed 4 kids 9extra one being collected early)
deliver 2 to Guides
deliver 3rd one home
dinner for DP and self
evening routine
more plum and almond thingy (modified for individual size portions)
clean kitchen
.......and flake! Grin

Oh, and we won our Darts match last night Grin although I did have to go down to double 1 to win my singles leg.

swanriver · 30/09/2010 13:06

well..I have done..absolutely nothing..except piano this morning, and chat to dh. Dh did some washingup..
dcs to school fed, dressed and homeworky/waterbottly/practisy - does that count?
made some phone calls

will try harder this afternoon Blush

swanriver · 30/09/2010 13:11

oh yes, I planted the sprouting bulbs yesterday, that's something

and then unfortunately I spied some more bulbs in Morrisons, lovely purple ones Hmm

dh wants to put purple gravel under magnolia in the front garden, might be an exciting combination. Add a few orange tulips..Confused

Ellie godspeed to the grannies, I'm sure they will do a great job, and hope they look after you too.

OuchPassVodka · 30/09/2010 13:35

morning routine done
Nurse appointment - turned into doc appt done
asthma attack done
new inhalers used
Panic done Blush
rest doing

please miss can i be excused from flying due to being properally ill?

darts unfortunatley they have just found a gene that plays a role in migraine and proved that issues with it are passed down thus making it herditroy so am afraid that it is likely. All i can say is that the medicines that they have now to treat them are so much better then when i first started having them. Chances are it will continue to improve.

swanriver · 30/09/2010 13:55

*Ouch" sorry you are feeling panicky - hope day improves.

OuchPassVodka · 30/09/2010 13:58

swan am better now the asthma meds have kicked it but it is scarey when you have your first proper asthma attack Blush
