Welcome to the September 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here! )

Many thanks to our previous splendiforous thread leader Ellie for guiding us through July and August and to her dynamic deputy, the one and only PA. You've both made it a lot of fun!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Am going to starts new trend of posting in two halves, you'll all be at it soon and I won't feel so dumbGrin. where was I? ............a huge poo so the aforementioned poo went flying everywhere as trousers were whipped down with some speed. All down dd, all over me, a bit on the floor and , quite amusingly a small spot on to ds's arm at which point you wouldhVe thought that someone had attempted to chop it off he screamed that loud. I love potty training me Hmm Grin.

No flying whatsoever today .

Bedtime for me now! Oh and welcome back sr we missed you.

Stillcounting · 13/09/2010 22:40

x posts

MissBennett ooh there's a lot of cooking in advance going on in this thread - well done you - (I used to do this three days a week - and it's slipped to one) Must get back on track.

Wishing you a bollock-free day tomorrow Ellie (now I could add something rather irreverant to that sentence but I'll resist the temptation ....

G'night again ....

OP posts:
elliepac · 13/09/2010 22:41

And now I have x-posted so make no sense at all. Nothing new thereGrin.

elliepac · 13/09/2010 22:43

Oh go on sc know you want to Grin

Stillcounting · 13/09/2010 22:44

More x-posts!!

OK - revised sentence -
Wishing you a poo and bollock-free day tomorrow Ellie Grin

Pluto I am holding you up as a perfect example of good Flying today!! Everyone have a look please. Good, realistic succinct list (notes to self to be more realistic and succinct) all complete! The Fat Fairy would be proud!

Not that those of you with long lists are doing anything wrong - far from it - but as Fat Fairy rep on here I want to remind you all to be kind to yourselves and do the minimum possible to keep the whole ship rolling along ...lecture over.

Right, I really am hitting the hay this time ....

Just DS to check, and that's it for today !!!

OuchPassVodka · 13/09/2010 22:58

:o at alls these x-posts. I am fully of energy and have spent 15mins decluttering the bedroom and have reduced the current ironing pile by half. although as the t-shirt wash is in the dryer it will regrow. Going to work til midnight and try to get something done. My day/night pattern is a bit sque wiffy. (sp's)

Stillcounting · 14/09/2010 06:42

Good morning

Today's baby-step, number 14, is more indoctrination! ... so catch up day in effect...

Oh and here's a useful reminder about baby-steps and the Fly system in general that I happened upon here!

Today is the second day of being in zone 3 here

But, strangely, today's mission is back in the kitchen - eh???? - here wiping down kitchen dooors. (Would some kind person check I haven't got this wrong pls.....)

Tuesday is a free day so remember to do your normal routines

And finally, today's reminders are here

Hope everyone can Fly high today ... onward and upward ...

Well done on getting through that humungous list yesterday Ihatecobwebs

OuchpasstheVodka As requested I am now officially pestering you:

[SC looks sternly over pince-nez]

  • how is your bedroom going and what are you going to be doing in it today?
  • did you get to bed before midgnight last night?

Have a good one ...Smile

LinzerTorte · 14/09/2010 07:09

Good morning,

It looks like I missed out on all the fun going on on this thread last night - I thought I was having a late night (was invited over to neighbour's and not back until 11 pm) but obviously it wasn't late enough. Wink

Ouch DS is 4 and is back in nappies at night after doing quite well before the summer (I put him back in nappies at night whenever we were away over the summer, which was possibly a mistake). And he managed to wet his bed again this morning despite the nappy. DD2 has just turned 6 and is normally dry, but did have a couple of "accidents" last week. DD1 is the only one who is reliably dry, but she was 6 before she was out of nappies at night and it was a good year or so before I could rely on her not to wet the bed. We just have to remember that we'll get there eventually!

MissB I'm looking forward to the new series of the Inbetweeners (my parents are recording it for us) despite being far too old to watch it! Mind you, aren't the actors also far too old to be playing their roles? Grin

Bob It's great that your DD enjoyed her morning so much; you must be so proud of her.

SC Plenty of apple strudel on offer here too. Grin You're probably right about the long lists in that they go against all Flylady's principles, but I find that the longer my list, the more I tend to get done of it - it gets quite embarrassing posting the same items over and over again, which is a great motivating factor!

Today's list:

Washing
Ironing
Morning routine
15 min decluttering in bathroom
5 min decluttering in playroom
Bathroom mission
Stash and dash mission
Finish letter
Afternoon routine
Get DD1 to write postcard
Pay ballet fees
Phone piano tuner delegated to DH
Birthday present for DD2's friend
Evening routine

LinzerTorte · 14/09/2010 07:12

Have just checked the Sneak Peek for the week, which seems to have the right mission for today - cleaning the bathroom bin (plus 5 minutes in the "Stash and Dash space" gathering up things to donate/give away).

Stillcounting · 14/09/2010 08:14

Thank you Linzer

OK everyone - STOP CLEANING YOUR BATHROOM CABINETS AND START CLEANING YOUR KITCHEN BIN INSTEAD!! (And then do a dash and snatch - or whatever it's called - in other room)

So sorry about all the confusion ...must be a glitch on the Fat Fairy website ...

[Yes, VERY good point about the embarrassment of repeating tasks in lists ....I didn't post a list this morning for that very reason Blush Wink It should be my day off today but I am catching up on chores instead having failed to get half of them done over the weekend]

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 14/09/2010 08:48

It's getting ridiculous how long some of the items have been on my list. I've been putting off phoning the piano tuner for a year now (!) so decided to delegate it to DH (I always used to make the phone calls when we lived in English-speaking countries, so it's his turn now Grin).

And I will remind DD1 to write that postcard to my parents today, but getting her to do her homework is enough of a struggle some days. DD2, on the other hand, loves writing - I discovered a few days ago that she has started writing a diary, although I suspect it may have been abandoned now! I'm wondering about looking for a penpal for her as the MN postcard exchange seems to have dried up (if anyone would like a postcard from Austria, we still have a stack left over btw!), although I'm not sure she's up to writing very long letters yet.

Off to do the missions and s&s now - I'm determined to get my morning routine finished before 10 am one day, but I'm not sure it will be today...

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2010 09:27

Linzer - Ds loves postcards, and he can on a good day be perswaded but then again he is a boy and only 5 1/2 so might not be dd2's cup of tea.

SC - erm sleep before midnight - didnt even get sleep before 6am. unfortunately just as i as able to go to sleep ds got up for the day. I suppose i should be glad that he did get his reading done. But at 4:30am not sure i really cared tbh.

Bedroom wise. spent 15mins removing stuff yesterday. did all of the existing laundry pile, but now had another basket load to do. I just need to put it away.

Today's list
car to garage
cry at cost of cary repairs
clear out the junk from the wardrobe so the clothes can go away (my bedroom
put clothes away
do whole house bin emptying and rubbish colletion sweep
Put black bin out.

Thankfully as he was up he didnt wet the bed. still went through 3 nappies though Hmm
Must go take car down. its due there at 9:30am ish. was just waiting for a bit of the rushhour traffic to pass before risking putting it on the road. Keep your fingers cross its something simple like broken front struts.

LinzerTorte · 14/09/2010 10:29

Ouch I'm sure that DD2 would be quite happy to write to a boy, and she only turned 6 in July so isn't that much older than your DS. Are you friends on FB with anyone else on this thread? Otherwise, you can e-mail at traungold @ hotmail . com and we'll get a card in the post to your DS. Smile Good luck with the car - hope you're mobile again soon!

I was going to post an updated list but I've only managed to get the washing/ironing and bathroom mission done so far - though just need to do a 5 min room rescue and then my morning routine is finished too. At least I have an extra hour this morning as DD2 is going to a friend's straight after school and I've persuaded DD1 to walk halfway home (with some friends from her class). Right, must make the most of the remaining 1.5 hours...

Toffeefudgecake · 14/09/2010 10:42

DS2 at childminder's as I am working at home today. However, DS1 seems to be at home still Hmm, as he is pleading illness. Will see if I can get him into school later, as he doesn't seem that ill to me, though he is tired.

Very pleased with myself as I have managed to get through all my routines this morning (gold star, SC?). My list now looks like this:

Put rubbish out done
Daily mission - bathroom bin done
Morning routine -
make beds done
unload d/w done
put w/m on done
load b/fast dishes into d/w done
s/swipe done
make packed lunches done

Grin

Still haven't done my 5 minutes tidy up in my 'other room' (the bedrooom). I am, frankly, scared by the mess in there. Will venture in today and attempt to do something. So the rest of today's list looks like this:

10 mins tidy up in our bedroom (use timer)
WORK
Kumon maths for DS1
Cook dinner (spag bol?)
PM routine
Eve routine

Linzer - laughed about your piano tuner being on your 'to do' list for a year. That must be a record.

Toffeefudgecake · 14/09/2010 10:45

Bedrooom? Did I type this because I'm scared of the mess in it, perhaps? I mean 'bedroom', of course. Oh dear, and am about to sit down and start proofreading. Must do better.

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2010 10:51

mechanic utter those words that always make you go ouch. "electrical fault" :(

Linzer had to delete my fb account when i had to name change. will email you later. Now really must sleep. Else i think i might have to cry. i need my car to be safe for friday. :(

feetheart · 14/09/2010 10:55

Seriously procrastinating today. I should be trying to get back on track with work as it was all a bit hit and miss over the summer but I'm a bit daunted by it so am lurking on here instead Hmm

Bob - glad DD had a good time, a very big day for all of you :)

Toffee - glad DS made first day easy on you, mine did too. His first words to me when I pick him up are always "Have you got something for me to eat?" Was the same at pre-school, might have to bring 3-course dinner to school gate when he starts full-time Shock

Right, going to do short list and STOP faffing and get on with some WORK (stern looks at self Hmm)

  • WORK
  • Finish morning routine
  • Pick up DS (with ham roll and juice in bag!)
  • Lunch
  • Hoover with DS's help - he told me not to do it without him!
  • Scan shopping with DS's help (we do National Shopping Monitor thingie where we scan everything we have bought. It helps with 'research' but more importantly, pays me in vouchers to do it :))
_ Pick up DD and have informal meeting on playground about Autumn Fayre if weather holds
  • Afternoon routine
  • Dinner
  • Get tired DD to do homework
  • DD to Brownies
  • Evening routine
  • Bed at reasonable time

Got 35 mins before I pick up DS, any bets on how much I can get done?

Toffeefudgecake · 14/09/2010 12:26

Feet - I have also been putting off starting work this morning. Would quite happily do MN and Flying all day rather than sit down and work. Glad your DS had a good first day too. Was a bit worried by DS2's words last night, though - "Mummy, school was OK, but it lasted too long". Decided not to remind him that that was the short session and he'll be going full time soon.

Finally, managed to get DS1 to school at 11 (found him watching telly and looking decidedly healthy), so now I can work uninterrupted. However, I can't find the notes I need. They are somewhere in the bedroom Shock. So now I will have to do at least 10 mins sorting through the debris in the hope of finding them.

This is why I need to de-clutter! What a waste of my time.

Linzer - hope you did your morning routine. Good luck with the rest of your long list.

Ouch - hope you are sleeping peacefully.

Right, must be brave and face the bedroom....

Wish me luck!

BobLoblaw · 14/09/2010 13:04

Hello, sorry about the slightly soppy post last night, I was a leeeetle bit emotional!

I have

-Morning routine done
-Two loads of washing, now dried and about to put away done
-Make roast vegetable wraps for tonight and lentil stuff with sweet potato mash for tomorrow, dp and ds will have sausages with it done
-Weekly home blessing done
-Pack dd's stuff for school tomorrow done
-Uniform ironed for the week done
-Hoover bedrooms done
-Decluttered in bathroom

Hope you can find your notes quickly Toffee our house really needs massively decluttering too

Crossing my fingers that your car is fixed Ouch

Thank you SC all that info was great, still getting used to all of this FlyLady malarkey. My list today looks longer than usual but Tuesday I get some help with dd so the more I get done the more easily my week flows.

Hope your 35 minutes sets you off on the right track feetheart I do the daunted so avoiding thing too, but it feels like a weight lifted when I finally get going with it.

Hope today has less flying poo and errant children elliepac Grin

Toffeefudgecake · 14/09/2010 13:06

Very proud of myself now. Have managed to chuck out loads of junk from our bedroom, and in the process have found: a long-lost recipe for oatie biscuits that we wanted and another one for sausage casserole; an umbrella; new pants for DS2 (forgot MIL had given them to me); and the notes that I need for work! Also found a book on de-cluttering Blush.

Have now cleared a path to my side of the bed, which was cluttered up with bags and boxes (yes, it really is that bad - usually, I have to climb over DH to get to my side of the bed).

Now I have my notes, I really have no excuse not to work. Although it is lunch time now... Wink.

Toffeefudgecake · 14/09/2010 13:09

Bob - you have done loads today! And your dinner sounds delicious Envy.
