Welcome to the September 2010 Fledgling Flying thread!

This is where from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of the Fat Fairy, with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation along the way. (More info available here! )

Many thanks to our previous splendiforous thread leader Ellie for guiding us through July and August and to her dynamic deputy, the one and only PA. You've both made it a lot of fun!

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach (and don't worry - we are all at different stages):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

Together we can do it! All newcomers welcome!

Sleep given up on that so going to get up and try to do some flying.

I am borrowing a car so i can go training tomo and cant wait. Only condition is that i collect dsis from airport. seems fair to me. especially as i get a babysitter thrown in for the deal Grin

Question: how do you stop your brain thinking about stuff so that you can sleep? especially bloke stuff? My brain is running riot atm and it is why i couldnt sleep last night.

swanriver · 14/09/2010 13:31

now today...

I have been for a exercise type swim Hmmfinally - not swum once all summer (though the kids did every day) water in Ireland was either peagreen or freezing.
caught up with a friend who is usually v. hardworking but for some reason had time to gossip to me for 2 hours
drifted round garden centre in search of bulbs

Linzer the piano tuner rings me!!!!As does plumber who services my boiler! What a joy that other people are so organised...Hmm

I'm not going to attempt any more housework today as I just need to do my piano practice or I'll waste tomorrow's lesson.

Ouch are you DEM
Cobwebs - I was just admiring some in our garden the other morning - spiders are sooo clever

Ellie Pride!!!instil a sense of pride!

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2010 13:33

Ouch is someone who had to change their name due to off board harassment. thus refers to answer your question.

Car is fixed and it wasnt major. Yipee. going to fetch it in a mo.

Toffeefudgecake · 14/09/2010 13:35

Ouch - Sorry you can't sleep. I suggest you write down all your thoughts before trying to sleep. (But not just before, as that will make your brain worse). Don't look at the computer or telly, as that makes it harder to sleep. Make yourself a hot drink and go to bed with a book. If you can get any Valerian herbal tablets, they really help too.

I can't guarantee this will work with bloke stuff though Wink.

Oops. I seem to be on MN again Shock.

BobLoblaw · 14/09/2010 13:41

Lol at the book on decluttering Toffee but weel done that's loads of progress, my bedroom is a dumping ground too, dps guitar, amps, drums etc, my side is now tidyish

Huzzah Ouch that's excellent.

I'm sure I saw exercise is very FlyLady, I've promised myself I will do some when dd is at school properly, so well done Swan

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2010 13:42
Grin unfortunately this bloke thing is creating a few interesting thoughts and i am not sure i risk writing them down. i would be horrified if anyone found them. Blush
swanriver · 14/09/2010 13:53

Ouch when my mind is racing I can't sleep either, luckily it only happens occasionally . Often the next day I think back rationally on my thoughts to try and release them - night is such a bad time to think things over.
Also I find getting out of bed, wandering around getting cold etc and THEN getting back into bed (which is cosy and warm) helps a bit rather than trying to sleep.

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2010 13:58

my brain is a one track record at the moment. I need to train, tis the only way to relax. shame it is not a fri night training session. yum.

LinzerTorte · 14/09/2010 14:27

Ouch That's great news about the car - I would be lost without mine and sometimes wonder how I managed to survive so many years without one. As for sleep, the only thing that works for me is Radio 4 podcasts (also v. handy for when I wake up far too early).

Bob I'm sure Flylady has some cutesy word for exercise, but can't think what it is - though "15 minutes of loving movement" springs to mind. I have had 10 minutes of loving movement today, as I have just cycled to kindergarten and back - that will do me for this month, I think. Wink

swan A piano teacher who rings you - now that's what I need! Oh, how I wish I liked speaking German on the phone; it would make my life so much easier.

Toffee Well done on your decluttering! I must admit I could quite happily spend all morning flying and on MN - I'm glad I haven't had much work recently as it gives me the chance to catch up on everything that gets neglected when I'm snowed under.

Toffeefudgecake · 14/09/2010 16:05

Ouch - maybe you should write your 'interesting' thoughts down on a thread! Doesn't MN do a good line in naughty threads?

Can see why you're not sleeping well though!

I have done some work. Or, at least, I have looked through the work I am meant to be doing, felt horrified at how much there is, sent off some emails to work to negotiate deadlines and gone off to make myself and DS2 (back from CM) a hot chocolate to calm down, if that counts as work.

DS2 is now watching 'Ice Age' on DVD whilst I look at MN work.

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2010 16:14

i think i may innocently have missed that toffee. lordy though my brain Blush lust is a terrible thing. especially when u are a dunce and miss the subtle clues they give you until afterwards plus can't train fri night for another week due to ds commitments :( he makes me smile. damm it.

PositiveAttitude · 14/09/2010 16:58

Can I come and vent??

No flying talk coming from me.

In Ellie speak I have had the crappiest of crapola days!!!! Sad

Feeling pretty rough today, go into work and one boss is an absolute a**se to me!
DD1 phoned from Blackpool in tears, she has lost her job.....end of the world, obviously. Sad

Half an hour later DD3 phoned in tears and needed collecting from college as her CFS/ME is bad and she needs to get home. I really thought we would get beyond the first week for it all fall apart for her. Sad

My growth (dont like the word "tumour" it sounds too serious!!) is growing and becoming more painful and is is now giving me problems with some nerves around my face. I have a bizarre "pins and needles" around my lips. Only 3 days to the MRI and I am beginning to panic....... serious hand hold needed!!!

Will now calm down and read through the thread.
Sorry, I just needed a vent/hand hold from someone i feel I know as hardly anyone in RL knows I am unwell.

meanwhils house is falling into C.H.A.O.S.

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2010 17:05

PA vent away. you have had a lousey day and it is needed. I have spent all day spouting trout and therefore it is a far better use of thread space to listen to your venting. yours is more deserving.

DD1 is she ok apart from the job loss.
Dd3 is it a serious fall apart or one that can be managed?
How have you been sleeping? honestly? because i get weird pins and needle pains around my face when i am sleep deprived. admittly i am a migraine sufferer. But there might be a simple answer to that bit. Take a deep breath. I have had to have an mri for the migraines. they can turn the results around really quickly and they were really good with me when i passed out low bp. oh and i fell asleep during my test. Test will be ok. Results are results. but the test will be fine.

Take a deep breath. They are psuhing you through the system and you are getting sorted as fast and as best they can. Hand holding an much as needed. Hang in there. we are all sending you positive vibes.

Nettiespagetti · 14/09/2010 17:05

pa sorry you are having such a rotten time. It's never just one thing at a time. Tell me who boss is and I'll screw him/her flappy bits to desk.
Just wanted to send my hand holding thoughts xxxx ((((hugs))))

(sorry to everyone else im just lurking in the background reading all)

LinzerTorte · 14/09/2010 17:14

Oh PA, sorry to hear you've had such an awful day but feel free to vent as much as you want; we're all here for you. Am keeping my fingers crossed for you for the MRI - waiting to find out what's wrong is just one of the worst things, but we're here to hold your hand and are sending lots of positive thoughts and (((hugs))).

PositiveAttitude · 14/09/2010 17:28

Now just lost a post to you all!!!!! GGrrrrr!!!!

Thank you all soooo much!! You are all lovely Smile.

Ouch, not so worried about the MRI as the results that are coming after that!! Hopefully I will hear from the consultant early next week, although I am going to see him on Wednesday, anyway.

DD1 has just phoned and has calmed down. I ahve just talked her through some strategies to get a new job quickly, even if its just a short term one til something better comes along.
DD3 is just going to have to be patient with herself and not expect too much too soon. After a few hours kip she is smiling again now.

Thank you all once again.....I love you all Grin

Stillcounting · 14/09/2010 17:42

Gosh, lots of posts since this morning!

Not much time for individual answers as have been out for most of the afternoon visiting a friend and stayed later than I should have done and supper is late

Firstly PA so sorry to hear about your truly awful day. You really didn't need your boss being horrible on top of everything else you are dealing with. So sorry to hear about dd1 & dd3 too. If the pins and needles get any worse don't hesitate to get to an ER will you? Thinking of you x

Linzer thanks for early afternoon round-up and lol at "loving movement" - that's so hideous isn't it ...btw I think I may break the record for recurring undone tasks appearing on my lists Blush My home office decluttering must have been up there for at least a year and it's only recently I've made serious inroads ...

You deserve lots of gold stars Toffee. Well done with the decluttering. Try not to worry about the work ....you'll get through it ... Flylady techniques work well with "work" work too ... 15 mins at a time and lots of Mnset breaks

You too Feetheart I am an expert on the subject of procrastination Grin ...just do 15 mins and rest will follow ...

Nick we didn't see you, we really didn't Wink

Glad you've got your wheels back Ouch and sleep well tonight

Well swam Swan (sorry, couldn't resist!) Grin

Huge waves to Nettie

No need to apologise Blob - you have every right! Smile

How are you getting on today Tigger?

Mush dash, pork chops ready ... back later ...

Evening all. Will be back later but I just wanted to send hugs and love to pa. life sucks sometimes doesn't it. I Hope you manage to get a peaceful evening. Xxxxxxxx

Ps I have no real words of wisdom, that's what sc is for Wink but i wanted you to know I am thinking of you.

Dartsbeginsagainsoon · 14/09/2010 18:33

PA sorry to hear about your bad day and I hope things get better.

I'm not getting to the computer as much as I thought, but as I'm busy, I suppose that's a good sign that I'm not procastinating.

cooked dinner
made crumble (plum and apple)

to do:
evening routine
sort out DD's new keyboard

boss back in office, so life will be hell until he feels he knows where we're at

dinner (I do most cooking)
washing
evening routine

MrsDinky · 14/09/2010 18:41

Wow, I can't keep up with this thread at the moment, you all seem to be so busy!

First of all . Sorry you've got so many family things to deal with at the same time as your illness and DH being away. Was DD1's job loss completely out of the blue? Re pins and needles, no constructive advice but you have reminded me - DD had her first dose of that the other day, she had been sitting with her chin on her hands looking over the back of a chair when she suddenly looked alarmed and said "Mummy, my hands have gone all fizzy!".

Ouch - I suffer with racing brain syndrome at night quite a lot too. Sometimes getting up and watching something mindless on the telly helps me out. Also I have a lavender spray for my pillow, this seems to help.

SR - had my first proper exercise session since July today too, went back to the gym, ouch, trying to break myself in gently.

Nick - didn't see you....

Toffee - I am a terrible procrastinator too, Ipad is making things even worse, in terms of time spent mindlessly browsing MN.

SC - you're doing a brilliant job with all the posts/roundups.

Waves at everyone else.

Today
Gym - done
Top up shopping at market - done
Order something from internet - done
Pick up DD from school at 12 and have lunch - done
Let DD watch Dora for most of the afternoon because she is tired - done
Take DD to ballet - done
Dinner - spag bol made in the slowcooker - done
Packed lunches for tomorrow - done
Washing - forgot
Make rock cakes - done
Clean kitchen floor - done

kitpuss · 14/09/2010 19:17

Hi ladies, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to join in with all your epic posts about how much you are doing, (in fact I am quite in awe of them!), but I just wanted to say a big thank you - I found flylady through you and she is slowly changing my life!

So thanks Smile

MrsDinky · 14/09/2010 20:26

Hi Kitpuss - thank you, that is lovely to hear. Feel free to just pop in any time you like, you don't have to say much.

NickOfTime · 14/09/2010 22:00

pa - get yourself signed off for the rest of this week with stress. gp tomorrow
you need to hibernate for a day or two (with dd3) and just get through time until the mri. remember that some symptoms will be magnified because you are so worried xxx

(and i know it's a platitude, but i'm sure when things seem to be getting worse rapidly they are sometimes the easiest to fix - it's the slow silent nasty stuff that's the worst. - i'm thinking of you loads and keeping my fingers crossed)

nothing else - just nipping in to offer pa a virtual hug and to be bossy. no more work this week pa! hibernate on nick's orders. it's not long. (have they told you to go to a&e if you get any particular symptoms? it might not hurt to call nhs direct and ask?)

OuchPassVodka · 14/09/2010 22:20

kitpuss all the chat was my fault today, i promise that i will try not to whitter on so much in future
I havent done much. done nothing in the bedroom. and still cant sleep. going for a shower and a snack and then have another try. goodness me i am tired.

PA - i think nick has some wise advice. I'm sure i saw her around her. nope? must have been a shadow or something Wink

night all sleep tight!
