Sofa regret - help me style

Recently replaced a 25 year old sofa. Spent ages looking at different options. Decided on a Cotswold company sofa. I love the design but feel like I’ve made an huge error with the colour. I really wanted a green but when I visited the showroom with my friend she thought the green looked too dark. Suggested a teal colour which I liked but now really wished I had stuck to my original moss green colour. It feels too blue in the room and every time I look at it I feel shocked how blue it looks. So disappointed at myself as it was such a big decision. Everywhere I look there are lovely green sofas. I have attached a photo - any tips on how to look less blue!

We bought a new sofa from Loaf, and they have a policy that you can chance the covers within 14 days if you’re not happy with them, for no cost apart from delivery fee. It might be worth getting in touch with Cotswold company and asking them if they have anything similar- or how much it would cost for new covers even if you have to pay the full price for them.

**change the covers

I much prefer the blue-fresher and more modern. I think the issue is the surrounding colours suit the green sofa more so the blue looks off. Paint the wall colour a cooler colour and put a rug on the beige carpet.

I don’t think you will succeed if you try to disguise it with moss green throws and cushions. You need to make the colour you have got work with your room. We can’t see the rest of your room, but I think the cream embroidered vision you have on it is perfect for it.

*cushion not vision

I love the blue sofa! (To me it's definitely not teal.)

Green is lovely but very fashionable at the moment (green kitchens, green velvet sofas) so is likely to date more quickly I think.

I love the one you've bought. I think that the issue is less to do with it looking too blue in the room and more to do with it not being the idea you had in your head. Adding green accessories won't help. It'll make the blue stand out more. I think you'll need to lean into the blue so it looks like a deliberate decision. How about this throw from Laura Ashley?

I agree with this

Zooeyzebra · 04/11/2025 23:40

Both are lovely. The colour you have is more timeless though. I think you have more options to change it up with cushions and throws. I feel green will date quickly as it is definitely very fashionable right now.

Get a rug - it will help bring the room together

And paint the wall a similar shade of blue - the magnolia looks stark and old fashioned

Oooobigstretch · 09/11/2025 07:56

would You be up for painting the room? I think a dado rail around the room with panelling underneath painted a lovely green that goes with the sofa could be fab - then pick that green out with cushions on the sofa. Perhaps a throw as well in complementary tones to both colours

Frenchfrychic · 09/11/2025 08:06

On my screen it looks grey, but on the Cotswolds company website it looks a lovely pale blue, if this is the one.

id add some lovely bright cushions in contrasting colours, voyage Maison does some fab ones, whatever your tastes are,

Can I ask which one you bought please? We need a new comfortable sofa and I just cannot decide!

MsCactus · 09/11/2025 11:03

Green/yellows/beiges are really back in style now - and blue/grey/greige/cool white is dated. So I can see why you'd prefer the green sofa - I would too!

However I think you can salvage the blue-grey sofa. I think you'll need to experiment with cushion covers and throws - maybe bright colours (mustards/red/yellows), or greens to pull out the teal/greenness of the sofa. Have you swatched colours against it? That's what I'd do - and try and work out what gives the most modern feel.

I really like it. I have a blue sofa....darker then yours and I am going to paint my new lounge green. Maybe a colour like this photo.
