Sofa regret - help me style

Recently replaced a 25 year old sofa. Spent ages looking at different options. Decided on a Cotswold company sofa. I love the design but feel like I’ve made an huge error with the colour. I really wanted a green but when I visited the showroom with my friend she thought the green looked too dark. Suggested a teal colour which I liked but now really wished I had stuck to my original moss green colour. It feels too blue in the room and every time I look at it I feel shocked how blue it looks. So disappointed at myself as it was such a big decision. Everywhere I look there are lovely green sofas. I have attached a photo - any tips on how to look less blue!

I love the teal, it’s a lovely colour!

For colour schemes I often use ChatGPT.. I know it’s bad for the environment but it’s so handy. You can give it a picture of the sofa and any existing accessories you like and ask it to create a colour scheme around them, it’s great.

I love your new sofa!

LibertyLily · 02/11/2025 16:49

I don't dislike your new sofa @Forgottenidentity although I'd always caution against going with a suggestion from someone that doesn't have to live with it!

Imo, it's definitely not teal, but more of a blue/grey (on my screen, at least) and would look much nicer against green walls (true moss green, which again I'd say your original choice isn't, being more sage).

I think the - on trend - John Lewis suzani style cushion would work better if you added other complementary designs using blue/grey, mossy green and the red (JL have others on sale at the moment, including a lovely crewelwork one I'm eyeing up 😁). Repeat the colours in lamps, other textiles and artwork etc.

We all have different tastes. The cushion looks dated to me. Like my mums style when I was growing up I guess. Red is a very bold colour choice in any room

Edited

Haha I have cushions just like these (love the suzani style OP!) bought in Amman in Jordan, it’s dated in that they’ve been made that way for centuries I guess! And I’ve got a brick red terracotta sofa to go with them 😁😁😁. Actually I wanted a mossy green too but my family all loved the red one more and I liked it lots too, so that’s what we have - I love it.
OP I’d keep with the multi tones - buy a couple of throws in blues and greens, or greens and rust reds, picking out your favourite tones. Perhaps green and blue suzani or Ikat lampshades?
FWIW it’s a gorgeous blue. I think mossy green would have been lovely too, but it’s a gorgeous colour in itself.

I'm the opposite, much prefer the green.

I prefer the green too. The blue is ok but green is really nice.

Why is Chat GPT bad for the environment? I haven't heard that!

All AI uses a huge amount of energy (so carbon emissions) and also water. My understanding is it’s getting more efficient but it’s still much higher than a normal internet search!

ShoveItUpYourArseMargaret · 02/11/2025 17:33

I did pretty much the same OP. I wanted coral pink. DD convinced me to get blue, a v similar shade to yours. I really wish I'd gone for pink, that is what I wanted 😔

The design I don't mind, the colours are a no from me though. I just can't get along with red in the home. And with green it feels like Christmas 🎄 My parents had red carpet when I was young, maybe that out me off 🤣 I'm the same with clothes, red isn't my usual choice and I certainly wouldn't pair it with green or blue.

Mossey55 · 02/11/2025 18:01

I love the teal sofa it is gorgeous

This is so interesting! Shows why me and my husband don't agree on blue! Although I'm assuming he's the one in the wrong here since I'm in the middle 🤣 I'll be sure to tell him

🤣🤣

FVFrog · 02/11/2025 18:03

I think it’s bloody lovely! I am so glad it’s not just me though….we too bought a sofa from Cotswold and went for a teal (much brighter than your option, they don’t actually do the colour anymore it’s so garish 😩) it looks hideous but cost £££ (bloody comfortable though!!). It’s taken a year for my partner and I to both admit to each other that we hate it….

TwistyTurnip · 02/11/2025 18:04

It’s quite a neutral shade of blue, so will go with a lot of other colours. Dark green was probably too strong OP. I think it looks lovely by the way. You might just be experiencing buyers remorse.

JaninaDuszejko · 02/11/2025 18:04

Blue is my favourite colour so guess which one I prefer! But you should always go with what you like because it's your home.

Blue and Green go well together though so I bet if you change the wallcolour to a toning blue or a green and lean into having a mix of greens and blues in your cushions you'll be able to come up with something you like that won't cost too much.

I think your cushion has a beautiful design but I think with the cream walls, beige carpet and blue sofa it's an old fashioned look. What are your curtains like?

Mossey55 · 02/11/2025 18:08

Please tell me what the style is called, it’s just what I’m looking for . It’s fab

Some of the colours to the right of your line, in your blue section, are SO green to me! But yours is bang on the median line so I guess this is how most people see things. Please apologise to your husband on my behalf for proving you right! 🫣

I just struggle to get my head around how anyone can call anything with such a large amount of yellow in in “blue”. 🤣 But I appreciate that I am the outlier! For me blue is just royal blue with added amounts of white or black, no yellow at all. Likewise if you start adding red to blue it becomes purple for me. I get very frustrated when people call a shade of purple “burgundy” or “wine” or whatever which should be a dark red, with no blueish hue.

On my photo of test results there is a box at the bottom saying “this is your turquoise” i.e. an even mix of green and blue and the colour is shows is exactly what I’d call turquoise. Weirdly it doesn’t show that box on your test results but I’d be so interested to see it!

GreenCandleWax · 02/11/2025 18:13

Lots of yellow cushions will modify the blue colour.

I had a blue sofa before and hated it. It always felt so cold. Wasn't my choice at the time but I had to live with it for years.

But the one you have is a nicer blue than the one I had. I really think you could work with it and change the feel of the room with paint. Try a blush paint on the walls. Look pinterest for inspo.

At the bottom it says 'for you turquoise is X' and shows the same turquoise colour for everyone but says blue or green depending on your score. I'm pretty much in the middle (it jumps about a bit) but my husband is the opposite to you and his says 'for you, turquoise is blue'.

I have a rather unnatural green obsession so feel your pain! Could you possibly paint the walls? I feel like the yellowy cream/white you have isn’t working that well and is making the couch seem bluer. We recently chose this colour and I am obsessed and think something like that tone might make the couch look nicer and less startling for you https://www.lick.com/uk/product/greige-01-matt-paint - then throw on a really nice chunky knit throw in the green you wanted and everything might blend in nicely https://www.dunelm.com/product/chunky-knit-recycled-throw-130cm-x-170cm-1000221719?defaultSkuId=30826699&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Bedding_Throws+and+Blankets-PMax_%5BGOO-PLA-BEDDING-THROWS%5D&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19815176367&gclid=CjwKCAiAwqHIBhAEEiwAx9cTeWbA4ksgbn4D9twnlb1CVooIKNsOg0RA1dmrCDzDp8UxIu2HAp3i6BoC_e0QAvD_BwE
