If your sitting room isn’t white or beige, what colour have you chosen?

Looking for inspiration. Have saved lots of ideas on pinterest but would like to see real home too if you are brave enough to share a pic (even of just one corner)? Planning how to decorate a traditional victorian sitting room with fireplace and alcoves. I tend to like soft blues with a hint of sage but still figuring it all out. Don’t want anything too neutral or dark.

Dark yellow, sounds awful but love it. It's bright yet cosy and warm

A colour called Mellow Mocha which is actually a muted pink. If I change it at some point it’ll be sage green.

Pale blue.

My rooms are probably too dark for you (dark red and dark green) but my friend, also owning an old house, did her sitting room in orange,
Again, it sounds awful, but it was lovely, a very cosy room. At night, with lamps on, it glowed.

Mine is Sage green, lovely and relaxing.

Dd used Farrow&Ball Serge blue which is quite dark.
I was sceptical but it looks really good.
Sorry I don’t have a pic.

We have sage green too. I love it.

Roasted red

I forget what the paint was actually called but it’s a darkish burnt orange colour. Doesn’t sound too great written down and I had a definite ‘what the fuck have you chosen?!’ moment when I started painting but it’s beautiful. So cosy and warm feeling. It was magnolia for several years before from when we moved in and I am very glad I changed it up!

Dark blue, a burnt browny orange, and muted gold called Hay.

SagittariusUprising · 22/09/2024 08:26

F&B Stone Blue. It’s a lovely colour, but only works in the room (north facing) at certain times on really sunny days, so we’re thinking of repainting

Sage green with black accents. I have one black wall which is filled with photographs and plants to fit the sage green theme and break up the black

Egg shell blue and cream. Probably the calmest room I've ever had. Terracotta patterned sofas and a logburner.

F&B borrowed light.

I have an open plan living dining kitchen area. Walls are a very slightly grey white, floor is stripped pine lvt. Kitchen units are indigo blue. Blind bright yellow, curtains dull yellow. Sofa is a nubbly grey material. Multitude of paintings on the walls and brightly coloured cushions enrich the space

Mine has William Morris Golden Lily wallpaper on three walls and on the fourth is the fireplace and bookshelves either side. The bookshelves are built in and they and the chimney breast are the same deep green of the wallpaper.

victorian terrace. Dark blue in the “dark” end of sitting room and grey at the window end. Looks great. North facing.

Dark teal and mustard yellow. I found a lampshade similar to this in the charity shop and took inspiration from that. Works really nicely in all seasons! The yellow lifts in the sunshine, the teal tones come into their own in the darker months with soft lighting. I love it.

Just decorated my Edwardian sitting room, went for a lovely dark green on the walls, but kept light by bringing the ceiling white down the walls. I’m so happy with it, love it so much more than the off-white it was before

Wallpaper, white with lilac flowers on feature walls and a slightly patterned pale lilac on the other walls. Would need to re-plaster the whole room to be able to paint, very soft, old, damaged plasterwork, wallpaper covers a multitude.

Front room, north facing: Farrow and Ball "Borrowed Light" - light blue.

uncutdiamonds · 22/09/2024 08:32

Custard yellow, some walls white. Open plan with kitchen. Lovely and sunny feel
