Anyone do that European two duvets on one bed thing?

We've been thinking of ditching the one duvet and going for two. DP runs massively hot and I like to cocoon, which normally leads to me hogging the whole thing.

We currently have a double bed with a king size duvet on it. Do we go for two singles, or two doubles? I’m veering to two doubles as I get cold, but he thinks two singles. Help?!

A bigger bed is out of the question currently for financial reasons.

You have a thick double and he has a thin single

We have been doing 2 quilts for a long time, I would never go back to sharing a quilt. I have a king size quilt and dh has a double quilt

VesperLind · 25/02/2024 20:31

We do. We have a king size divan with two single quilts. In the spare room we have a double divan with two single quilts. Works well for us - we either have the same weight of duvet or can have individual choice depending on season. I recommend it to all my friends (mostly menopausal women) and they all rave about it too. It’s a game changer.

We do. We have a super king bed so two singles fits perfectly as one duvet as a 'look' and we both have our own preferences. It's an absolute game changer.

i have a single wool duvet which is lush. DP now has sole custody of the king size duvet we used to share. so much better - I like to be tucked up like a sausage roll and every time he turned over, he’d untuck me. Two duvets - problem solved.

BarelyLiterate · 25/02/2024 20:34

We do two singles on a super king bed, which works well, as one of us is a hot person, the other is cold. It’s a no-brainer, and I don’t know why more people don’t do likewise. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Two people plus two double duvets on a standard size double bed sounds rather overcrowded.

DumDeeDoh · 25/02/2024 20:36

We have a 3.5 tog double all year round. I have my own single duvet from ysk. I put it between the main duvet and the flat sheet. Works great for us.

Pupsandturtles · 25/02/2024 20:37

It’s amazing. Two singles

umberellaonesie · 25/02/2024 20:37

Yes it is amazing we both sleep much better

CelticPromise · 25/02/2024 20:37

Two double duvets on a king-size. It's brilliant.

CarrotOfPeace · 25/02/2024 20:38

Yes a double each. Much better sleep.

Dwrcegin · 25/02/2024 20:38

Two singles (13 and 10 tog) on a king bed.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/02/2024 20:39

You can each have the size you want. You don't have to have the same size.

FortunataTagnips · 25/02/2024 20:41

Just don’t do what we did - two king-size duvets on a king-size bed. Turns out you can have Too Much Duvet.

DiscoBeat · 25/02/2024 20:43

How do you make your bed look tidy with two?

owlsinthedaylight · 25/02/2024 20:44

Oh I would love this! I can’t persuade DH though.

He “can’t sleep” unless the duvet is tucked in on 3 sides and tells me off for “messing up the bed” if anything comes untucked or even gets a wrinkle.

I prefer to screw the duvet up into a big ball like a nest.

Im thinking of just chucking him out to a separate bed.

That’s entirely irrelevant. What matters is comfort & quality of sleep.

OddBoots · 25/02/2024 20:45

We've had our own duvets for over 25 years, various sizes depending on how big the bed is and what we feel like at the time.

When we go on holiday the worst bit is choosing between sharing a bed and having to only have one duvet or booking a twin room and not being able to share a bed.

That's important too! But I would like my bed to look tidy. Just wondering how people make it look neat.

Chuck (spread neatly) an eiderdown, blanket, throw etc and accessorise with FAR TOO MANY pillows

Digimoor · 25/02/2024 20:50

We have a super king and two ikea wider than uk singles
The main issue is buying suitable duvet covers

Stopwiththedamnrain · 25/02/2024 20:50

DH has a single thin duvet and I bury myself under a winter tog single. Then just fold them on the bed when not in use. Awesome and no-one is too hot or too cold and no fighting over the duvet in the night!

Rawrrawr1 · 25/02/2024 20:51

King size bed here, 1 King size duvet for him and a sheet plus weighted blanket for me.. it has made sleeping so much better 😴 we both like to roll the blankets like burritos around us.

Agree on not having too many pillows! We just have two normal pillows, then two large 45cm square pillows for reading in bed. The throw is a good idea. Do you overlap the two duvets in the middle so you can't see them hanging underneath the edges of the throw?

labamba007 · 25/02/2024 20:52

Super king bed and two duvets here...it's bliss!
