Hello, was unsure what topic to put this under and this was the closest i could find.. i was doing some spring cleaning and came across some old valentines day cards and remembered a discussion i had with my Husband when putting them in the window back then, I was of the opinion that I like to put cards facing outwards on the window for the whole world to see but he was of the opinion that they should be facing inwards because he doesnt feel comfortable having strangers see the cards and that nobody faces their cards outwards.. am i the only one who does this?? Lol if people put all sorts of personal stuff on social media for all strangers to see i am sure there is nothing wrong with putting cards on the window sil facing outwards 🙄 i just want to show how loving my family is and share the occasion.. i am really itching to know if anyone else does this? Please someone say yes they do so i stop feeling like the odd one out! 😩

Sorry i had a spelling error on the title, meant to be "cards facing outwards OR inwards in the window" 😬

Facing inwards, I’d never even considered the option of facing outwards! The window sill is just a convenient place to put them.

BendingSpoons · 20/07/2023 18:37

Ours always face inwards for the family to see. But then the way our house is, no-one would see them easily from outside anyway.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/07/2023 18:39

Facing inwards so the recipients can see them. Outwards is just daft. No one is interested in your family birthdays, anniversaries etc. Why would you want to look at the back of a card?

Franklin2000 · 20/07/2023 18:40

Facing inwards, sorry op. You’d be looking at a row of blank cards while people walking past who might cast a glance towards your house would see the picture and sentiment of the card. And also I’d never nosey in someone’s window to see what cards they’ve got and I wouldn’t want people looking in my house either!

GoodChat · 20/07/2023 18:41

Facing inwards. They're for the receiver - not for the neighbours.

TSPAOIFA · 20/07/2023 18:43

Inwards, no one outside the window would care who the cards are for!

catsnhats11 · 20/07/2023 18:43

Inwards of course, for me to enjoy!! Never seen them outwards, surely it's more about the pleasure you get from seeing them than randoms passing on the street (who will see you have cards anyway)

RicksTheHunk · 20/07/2023 18:43

This can’t be real? Nobody, and I mean NOBODY does this!

Yep, this!

YourNameGoesHere · 20/07/2023 18:44

I'd love to validate you and help you stop feeling like the odd one out but unfortunately I don't think anyone else does what you do.

Facing inwards so the receiver can enjoy the cards is the norm because the alternative is just plain odd. Your neighbours don't care about the cards and it seems a little strange you think they would want to see them.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 20/07/2023 18:50

Just to put you at ease slightly OP - our neighbour has his facing outwards.

However I have never known anyone else to have them facing out. I don't even have mine in the window, they go on the mantle piece

Spidey66 · 20/07/2023 18:53

Inwards of course. Outwards is odd. Why would your neighbours be interested?

Azaeleasinbloom · 20/07/2023 18:55

There’s a town near me where residents are famous for that sort of stuff - curtains turned to face the street so you can see the stunning fabric, in the days that people collected ornaments , the Lladro faced the street. I don’t know whether that’s all true but the residents are known for being spendy, and sorry Op, but that’s what this sounds like to me.
Cards , curtains, whatever - good side to the room

Yes agreed

Never heard anything like it. Who would care what cards you have, other than you?

Spidey66 · 20/07/2023 18:56

@Justhereforthechristmasthreads do you live next door to the OP?

DontEatCrisps · 20/07/2023 18:56

Inwards is usual so your husband is sort of right but his reason is bonkers. No one is interested in your cards- they’re for you to look at but they’re not some sort of state secret 😂

Haha I was about to ask exactly that. I'm genuinely struggling to believe there are 2 people who do this.

Theraffarian · 20/07/2023 18:58

Inwards , otherwise I’d get the back of the cards , and no one can see my windowsill from outside my house anyway , and if they could I wouldn’t want to encourage people to be looking in !

Agree. Thats odd. I never ever thought about putting them outwards

Giantwindows · 20/07/2023 19:00

I‘m sorry OP but I massively cringed at this. What a weird thing to want to show off about - no one cares!

Led921900 · 20/07/2023 19:00

If I saw someone’s cards facing outwards I would assume they’re a bit dim and also a bit sad that they would prefer others to see them like they had something to prove “see people do like me!”. Don’t you think it’s a bit vain and conceited to ‘show off’ your cards?
window sill is a convenient place to put them, face them inwards and enjoy them.

WhyCanDreamsFade · 20/07/2023 19:00

I thought this thread was going to be about which way to face the card when you put it in Grin

Approaching · 20/07/2023 19:01

Inwards, definitely, they’re for the receiver to enjoy, not to brag!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/07/2023 19:02

Inwards - it's just using the windowsill as a shelf, along with the mantelpiece (no open fire below before anyone queries that), China cabinet etc. That's for Xmas , we don't really bother with birthdays or anniversaries, if there's only a few I'd use the mantelpiece rather than the windowsill.
